After the steering damper recall my jeep started experiencing the "death wobble" after hitting bumps at about 65mph. it happed 3 times. jeep is giving me the runaround.
I was driving my jeep on the highway at 65mph and drove over a seam(bump) in the road. the front wheels and steering wheel began the shake violently and uncontrollably. i had to bring the vehicle to a complete stop in order for the shaking to stop. finding a place to come to a complete stop on the highway is not safe at all.
Traveling on an interstate at 65 mph and went across the metal strip just before a bridge. the front wheels started wobbling violently and the steering wheel shook bad as well. this happened two more times this trip at the same type of situation. the second time i tried to slow down to get the jeep to stop wobbling but an 18 wheeler was directly behind me and almost ran up the rear of my vehicle. i had three mishaps all the same on this trip. i use the jeep around town, but won't drive it at high speeds. i had the damper replaced in the jeep three days prior to this trip. this is the part that fca says causes the problem. i have another appointment next week to have the jeep checked out. the date this happened to me was nov. 8th, 2019. being a first time owner of a jeep, i think i should have been made aware of this problem when i bought the jeep from the dealer.
On 9/30/19 at 4:30am, odometer reading of 170 miles, while at highway speed, approx 70 mph, on i-295, the vehicle began to violently shake. it was uncontrollable until my speed reduced to 35 mph. at 35 mph the shaking began to subside while i continued to slow to a stop. the incident appeared to be triggered by a slight bump or seam in the pavement. on 9/30/19 the vehicle was serviced at cherry hill dodge chrysler jeep, 1708 w. marlton pike, cherry hill nj 08002. they determined cause to be faulty steering damper and replaced it with part number 68251580ad which i was told was an improved part over the original. at first the problem seemed to be resolved. then on 11/3/19 at 9:30pm, odometer reading 1,490 miles the violent shaking occurred again. circumstances were the same, traveling at highway speed, approx 70 mph, had to reduce speed to stop the shaking, again on i-295 but different location, again apparently triggered by a slight bump or seam in the pavement.
When driving over speeds of 60 mph on the highway, and hitting even the slightest of bumps, my jeep steering was uncontrollable, and i imagine this is the "death wobble" i have heard about occurring in jeeps. the only way to manage it was to slow way down to 35 mph and avoid bumps of any kind.

My car has been experiencing the 'death wobble' as some dealerships have told me that. the steering gets a mind of its own and its super hard to control sometimes. i purchased a brand new car and it feels like im driving a lemon. almost every other day since i purchased it (one month ago) seems like ive almost gotten into an accident.
Wheels have a groove behind the spokes that accumulate water and dirt that settles to the bottom while parked and affects tire balance, causing dangerous shaking while driving. it is especially problematic on wet winter roads where they fill with water during while driving that pools in the bottom and freezes overnight. in less that 10,000 miles i have had this problem three times with water/ice and twice with mud.
Several times when driving at approx. 65-70 miles per hour on the freeway, i experienced the "death wobble" a violent shaking of the front end of the jeep including the wheels, front end, steering wheel and dashboard etc. the only way to stop it is to slow to about 50 mph or less. this occurs when going across a separation on a freeway or over a bump in the roadway. this first occurred with about 3025 miles on the new jeep. it always happens on the highway as there must be speed over 65-70 for it to occur. it was very dangerous and frightening to have to decelerate in the fast lane of traffic on the worst and most dangerous freeway in america, the 91 through corona and riverside, ca. very very dangerous and i am fortunate i did not cause an accident. i have a short video showing one episode when i was already considerably slowed.
When hitting a bump - i.e. bridge expansion joint - at highway speeds the vehicle's front wheels went into a severe wobble when required an immediate deceleration to alleviate. numerous instances. quite scary in heavy traffic, even for an experienced driver and a former general manager of a five-star chrysler dealership!! extensive research found a number of people having this problem, yet no recall or "fix" from fca has evidently been found. in previous responses from corporate they indicate that it is not a safety issue and i must vehemently disagree. the common term used is "death wobble"!! do we need to wait until an inexperienced driver or innocent fellow traveler becomes a victim?. my jeep is in the shop now awaiting some sort of disposition.

If i run over a bridge expansion joint or bump in the road at highway speeds the front suspension will start shaking and my steering wheel will feel completely loose. sometimes it corrects itself and other times it is such a violent shake you have to reduce your speed down to 40 mph or less until it stops. one incident was when i was exiting the highway and as i was merging in i hit a couple of bumps in the road. it started to shake so violently that i thought i was going to loose control. thankfully i was only doing 35 to 40 mph. it was so bad the person beside me slammed on their brakes. i had to slow down to 15 mph before it stopped. then it was like nothing ever happened.
Death wobble violent left to right shaking in the steering wheel and whole front end of jeep. happens anytime after hitting bump, pothole, bridge joint; on any type of road and speeds from 40mph to 80mph+. issue does not resolve its self until slowing the vehicle down to very low speeds, sometimes as low as 30mph. *no* 'upgrades' or any aftermarket parts/work have been done to the jeep.
When traveling above 70mph and hitting a rough place on the road the steering shakes violently including the dash until you slow down to 40mph. this has happened 6+ times now with the local deal ship not knowing how to fix. we were almost rear ended because of this. and thank goodness their wasn't an abandoned vehicle on the shoulder. we have a video of this happening

The front wheels of the vehicle often shake violently at highway speeds when the vehicle hits a small bump in the road. often the triggering event could also be uneven or patched sections of freeway. the front end shaking is so violent, control of the vehicle is difficult. the vehicle must be slowed immediately below 50mph to stop the shaking. this will happen at least once, every time i drive on a freeway.
At highway speed the vehicle develops a pronounced shimmy which lasts for several seconds when encountering a bump in the road. identical to what was commonly called the "death wobble" on my 97 wrangler.
At a speed of approx. 75 mph after hitting a number of pumps/potholes on the highway the steering wheel started to vibrate/shake like crazy - a terrifying situation in rush hour on a highway. the shaking stopped once the speed was under 50 mph.
Bf goodrich mud terrain t/a on the 2 door jeep wrangler willy package is standard.. this tire is a hazard for such a light car in wet conditions. many jeep drivers have reported slipping on the road even at low speeds. one driver who had them on his truck, said his truck very slipped on wet roads like his jeep wrangler is doing now. i now have to drive so slow on wet curves, well below the posted, and much slower than all the other cars. jeep put a excellent off road tire on a car, to be driven on roads. the normal tire, the goodyear wrangler, is a excellent tire. i was never advised that wet roads will be a hazard to drive on. when accelerating on the on ramp to i-10, my jeep lost traction with a small amount of acceleration on the wet road. exiting the i-35 on wet roads, my tires lost traction on the curve, rated at 35mph, when going under 30. i ended up in the grass. 30+ years driving. 10+ years driving jeeps. never an accident or off the road. these tires are a huge safety problem on 2 door wranglers. just read the jeep forums at all the problems.

While driving on a highway, construction zone on a speed below 55, suddenly the steering started to wobble. steering took a 45 degree to the right and was about to hit a car next but gained control back by holding the steering tight and steering to left, lost control fo the vehicle for almost 30 secs and reduced speed to 20 mph turning on the emergency blinker (this was on a freeway). awaiting to schedule a service appointment with the dealer.
Driving down the interstate at 70mph went to turn left and the wheel became vary hard to pull and finally broke free and went hard to the left had to hit brakes and fight the wheel to get control ...

Death wobble. every time i'm on the highway, 65-75mph, and go over a bridge or other slight bump. the steering wheel and entire car start shaking violently and i have to slow down to get it under control. i won't let my 18 year old child drive the jeep because of this. it's quiteviolent. i will put the most recent date, but it has happened several times. i'm not what one would describe as an uptight driver but this scared me. the jeep has had no modifications from date of purchase. tire pressure is equal and normal. the mileage is less than 8,000. i've had the car for 6minths
My brand new 2018 wrangler jl has the "death wobble": when traveling at highway speeds and i hit a sharp bump, the front end shakes uncontrollably. i need to take my foot off the gas, get into the breakdown lane and go down to close to zero mph before the shaking stops, then i need to re-merge into traffic. very scary (i usually have family in car with me) and very dangerous. it's in the shop now. parts are on backorder and they won't release it to me until its fixed--i presume b/c its too dangerous. i experienced the death wobble 7 times between when i drove it off the lot and was able to secure an appointment with the dealer. *dt*jb

Steering is loose and unresponsive ,jeep wonders into lanes on highways, hard to keep straight, constant steering wheel input needed to maintain a straight line at highway speeds, after hitting some pumps at highway speeds the front wheels shake and the steering wheel occilates , in some case vilantly causeing temporarily lose in control of jeep. can turn steering wheel several inches in both directions without the wheels turning.unknown as to what the problem is, i have been pulled over by police who thought i was a drunk driver due to not maintaining a straight line. almost involved in an accident with my children in car, hit a bump at highway speed and the wheels shook and steering wheel occilated and could not maintain my lane, was pulled over by driver in other car as we thought we had struck but luckily not, my dealer has already replaced sevaral parts but they cannot fix problem...still at dealer with no hope of being fixed
Violent shaking when on the highway. this occurs when i hit an uneven bump going around 70 mph. feels very dangerous and lasts for minutes. this forced me to slow down considerably on the highway.
Excessive / severe front wheel shake when hitting bumps, pot holes, etc. front wheels, along with the steering wheel will shake severely when hitting bumps at highway speeds. vehicle control is greatly impacted. front wheels and steering wheel will not stop shaking until vehicle is nearly brought to a complete stop. ability to keep control of the vehicle and stay within your lane requires extreme/extended braking at highway speeds. vehicle has been service by an authorized jeep service department. jeep recommended part(s) were replaced but the problem still exists.

Jeep steering wheel and front end begin shaking violently when a small bump is struck at higher speeds. this forces the driver to slow to unsafe speeds on the freeway potentially creating accidents.. jeep currently will not correct the problem, but only allows the dealership to replace the steering damper, which fails within the same week.
Any description of the jeep death wobble i have read is exactly what i am experiencing. i experienced my first incident while driving my 2018 jeep wrangler unlimited that i had purchased two months earlier. at highway speed's between 70 and 75 miles an hour if the vehicle hits a bump or a joint in a bridge well often begin to wobble and become almost violence. it will subside plan decreasing speed or holding the speed for about a mile or so. i brought it in to the jeep service department and they said they see nothing wrong with the vehicle. i am at the point now where i can almost make it happen on command. my next step is to bring the mechanic in for a test drive with me. from what i've read i expect nothing to be done to help me out. i will also note that there are no modifications whatsoever to my car.

Once my 2018 jeep wrangler hit over 16.5k miles, when driving over 60 mph and hit a bump in the road, the steering wheel/wheels shake vigorously and the only way to stop is to bring the speed below 60 mph, which is very unsafe when driving on the highway. i am also now noticing that the steering/suspension feels different when traveling on secondary roads when hitting bumps on the road. this started 2 weeks ago was minor and is continuing to get worse.

My 2018 jeep wrangler jl experienced the jeep "death wobble" on the freeway at speeds above 60 mph after running over minor pavement imperfections. the wobble was so severe each time i had to pull off the freeway onto the berm and come to a complete standstill for the wobble to stop. the wobble occurred four times in three days. i purchased the vehicle on 03/30/2018. the death wobble manifested in early october, 2018. i took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection within a week. the only problem discovered was the tires were all out of balance. the dealer balanced the tires. today is november 20. so far, the death wobble has not reoccurred.
On september 14, 2018, i leased my brand new jeep jl sahara 2018. i signed up for jeep app and immediately noticed a recall for my car - 2018 jl track bar weld, raising concern. on october 21, 2018, with less than 1000 miles, i was driving on local highway at @ 60mph, hit a bump and my entire steering/front of car began violently shaking. i immed. slowed down to hope re-align and gain control of steering/car. it was the most frightening experience as i was going 60, had to slow to 35, while others were speeding up behind me, in addition to being scared & feeling unsafe in an out of control car. i called jeep downingtown immed. on 10/22 to bring car in that week - 10/26. i looked it up and clearly is the known issue called the "death wobble". on 10/25, again on highway @ 65-70 mph, i hit a bump, experienced a yet worse violent shaking/out of control steering of my car. i pulled over as could not gain control slowing down. i got back on highway only to experience it yet again! i was shaking, scared as i could have been killed in addition to others!! i immed. called jeep dt and brought car into service. it is now 28 days and my car is still in service!!!. my experience with the dealer has been nothing but a nightmare. they tried 1) recall, 2) service software bulletin update, 3) steering stabilzer part and 4) tie rod part, none fixed problem. i last heard from them on 11/9 when they ordered tie rod - 13 days ago, unacceptable! i filed a case with jeep chrysler fca on 11/3- #57311328 and have had poor response. i have documented every day. i filed complaint with pa attorney general, no response. i have contacted lemon law lawyer and will be pursing action. all i want/deserve is to drive a safe car, as i'm paying for that! as nhtsa i hope you can ensure jeep takes these cars off the road and refunds us to ensure no one gets killed!

Ua5/nhtsa 18v-675 track bar weld recall. i had the required inspection done two weeks ago, but dealer won't do the welding. i have been trying to make jeep customer service make the local dealer fix this very serious issue, but nothing happens. i've even tried a dealer 1 hour 40 minute drive from me here in arizona, they won't do it either.
I purchased my 2018 jeep wrangler unlimited jl in june of 2018. within the first month of having the vehicle the problems began. i initially had windshield seals that were missing so the jeep would fill up with water from behind the dashboard. the dealership said they "fixed the problem" and then my windshield cracked because they didn't install properly, now it is leaking again behind the steering wheel. this will be my 3rd visit to the dealership for this problem. then the "death wobble" began around 8/9,000 miles, almost causing multiple accidents. my vehicle has been in two dealerships since october 2018 trying to fix all of the issues occurring. the jeep is being sent to the dealership for the 5th time on april 10, 2019 for ongoing steering issues. the damper (recall) in the vehicle was replaced 4 times without success and the steering continues to worsen. keep in mind, the damper recall fix was only available at my dealership in january of 2019. i now have 18,000 miles on the vehicle, loose and wobbling steering, can't maintain a lane while driving, vibration and wobbling while breaking, the emergency break is no longer engaging (manual transmission), and just put in a complaint with jeep a few weeks ago after little success with the dealership. jeep is telling me that my unsafe, unstable vehicle has too many miles on it to buyback. i have had the vehicle for less than 10 months and have never had this many issues with any of my other vehicles in my life. the vehicle will be going back to the original dealership i purchased it from for the 5th time for steering issues and 3rd time for the windshield seals, along with many other issues. i no longer feel safe in my own vehicle in which i am paying a high price for every month.

We bought this jeep suv in may 2018 and from the acquisition date we noticed a pronounced and dangerous shaking of the wheels, steering wheel. and body of the vehicle every time a road bump or uneven pavement is encountered when driving 55 mph and above. for the shaking to stop we have to slow to unsafe speeds below 50 mph on the highway.
