Problems with 2005 Jeep Wrangler FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2005 Jeep Wrangler starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 76 454 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2005 Jeep Wrangler

The poor design of the gas tank rollover safety float ball in this vehicle continues to allow gasoline to splash back out of the gas filler neck of the vehicle every single time at an auto shut off fueling nozzle is used. this is a known defect but which they offered a remedy that had an age or mileage limit. this is a gross safety hazard and should warranty t a recall before some one blows up.

Every time i fill the vehicle with gasoline, when the pump shuts off a large amount of gasoline 'burps' out and onto the ground. this is due to a faulty check valve installed from the factory that stops working because of the ethanol in the fuel. jeep has recalled later wranglers for this same issue but left us 2005-2006 owners stuck with the issue. this is a safety, health, and environmental hazard. i will be glad to send you a video of this happening.

Every time i fill the gas tank fuel spills out the filler neck causing a significant fuel spill. the jeep is stationary and on level ground at the gas station

Gas tank overflow. anytime i fill my tank, a large amount of gasoline shoots back out of the tank, dripping down the side of my car, and often splashing me or gas attendant. not only is this dangerous, it is also damaging the plastic and paint on my car, as well as wasting gas.

While filling with fuel, it will spit fuel back out and will not fill with gas properly. have tried going as slow as possible on the fuel lever while fueling and will still spit gas back out like there is a problem in the fuel filler hose and flap inside it.

When putting gas into the jeep, the nozzle does not automatically shut off and gas overflows out of the gas line (at the point where the cap goes on).

When filling up the gas tank, gasoline routinely back flows as it gets full. this causes gasoline to spill over the fuel filler door and down the side of the vehicle. i have had the vehicle for three years and since 51k miles were on it. this always happens when refueling.

Gas overflows and spills out of vehicle when fueling.

When having to fill up on gas it is overflowing. even if you set the control on the pump, when you pull out the nozzle, gas is spilling all over the jeep, floor and has even has spilled all over myself. this full tank needs to be recalled for the safety of all consumers.

As the fuel tank is being filled with fuel and the fuel pump cuts off when the tank is full, the tank allows a significant amount of fuel to be "burped" out of the fuel filler onto the vehicle, ground, and the person filling the vehicle. this occurs every time the tank is filled at every fuel depot.

When you fill the tank with gas, the pump doesn't shut off resulting in gas leaking onto the side of the vehicle as well as the ground. it looks like there have been multiple complaints about this problem from others that have this same vehicle. image read it is a faulty design and faulty ivc .

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep wrangler. while pumping fuel into the vehicle, fuel spewed out. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rollover check valve needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000. the vin was unknown.

When filling fuel will not shut off causing fuel overflow, which shoots out of fuel filler hose.

Like all the other jeep wranglers mine cannot fill up with gas without the gas overflowing out of the filler neck. this causes pollution, damages the finish of the car as well as a major safety issue. please make them recall this gas issue as the flapper in the line gets stuck open. at least that is what all the forums seem to say. if you want to see what it looks like just go to youtube --> https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=jeep+wrangler+gas+overflow or put in any other similar search. the majority of the jeeps on the road have this issue.

Gas overflows when filling gas tank. when auto fill lever is engaged and tank is full gas burps and overflows spilling on ground

When refueling the pump does not shut off before gas spills out of the fuel inlet.

When filling the vehicle with gas it does not automatically stop filling when the tank is full, which results in gas squirting out of the filler. this happens every time i get gas. getting gas on myself, my clothes, my shoes and down the side of my vehicle is not on my to do list. jeep/chrysler should issue a recall or notice to fix this issue. this issue is a fire hazard and is not safe for whomever is pumping gas.

Everytime, while filling my tank fuel will spill out as the auto shut off engages on the pump. fuel will spill out onto the ground, my clothes, my hands and the side of my jeep. i am not attempting to top off my tank when the issue occurs, it happens every time i fill my tank however i hold the handle when the auto shut off engages.

Fuel spills/sprays out of filler when refueling. pump shut-off does not engage correctly. this happens every time vehicle is refueled and results in excess fuel spillage on vehicle and ground.

Every time i fill up with gas, it over flow spraying gas out creating a safety and ecological hazard. *tr

During fill up, gas overflowed causing dangerous fire hazard. see video http://youtu.be/4rofzv8z1ew. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that fuel would spill from the tank each time the vehicle was re-fueled. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 28,000.

The gas tank will overflow when fueling the vehicle. *tr

Every time i fill my gas tank, the fuel "burps" back and anywhere from one to two quarts of gas is spilled. *tr

When putting gas in fuel tank in jeep when filling up to full mark gas comes out of spout and runs down the side of jeep. this happens every time the jeep is filled up. at any gas station. *tr

Since purchase in november, this vehicle has always shot fuel out of the fuel filler when it reaches a full tank. the gas pump will shut off, but never before it has expelled fuel onto me personally, my shoes, the ground, the filler cap (which is attached to the vehicle by tether), and down the body panel below the filler. this is a serious fire and health hazard for myself and other patrons of the fuel station. *tr

During fill up of the fuel tank, fuel sprays out of the filler hole resulting in a heath hazard, fire hazard, & environmental hazard. this needs to be addressed! *tr

Fuel over flows when fueling the vehicle at gas station fuel blows out of the tank all over the ground.. this is a environmental issue.. and fire hazard. *tr

Gas overflows during fillup. *tr

When filling up with gas at california pumps, the nozzle keeps shutting off. it doesn't seem to matter how fast or slow i try to fill, what angle i turn the nozzle, or how deep i enter the nozzle, it keeps shutting off. it takes about 15 minutes to fill the tank, a few seconds at a time. *js

When filling up the tank, the shutoff does not work at any gas station. the fuel shoots out of the tank. this is highly dangerous and results in me not being able to fill up my vehicle. in addition, i worry that the shutoff would not work in case of rollover. *tr

When filling up the fuel tank the back flow preventer does not work and up to a cup of gasoline will spill out of the nozzle leaving a flammable mess that needs to be cleaned.

When filling fuel tank, fuel comes out without warning and spills all over the ground and the vehicle. when adjacent to a hot brake caliper, this could create a fire hazard. about a pint of fuel is spilled with every fill-up. if the operator tries to listen for the fuel to come up the filler to stop, there is a splash and eye hazard.

While filling up at a gas station, the fuel pump did not "automatically shut off" and shot roughly 1/4 gallon of gasoline out on the side of the vehicle and on the ground. thoroughly cleaned vehicle but still smelt gasoline vapors inside of the cab for 30 minutes with the window down. did some research and found it is due to the vehicle's icv becoming stuck in the open position, which builds pressure inside of the gas tank, allowing the filler neck to fill with gasoline, and then releases the pressure which propells the gasoline out of the filler neck and onto the ground. in order to fix this problem i must replace the entire gas tank. *tr

When filling up the gas tank the gas pump automatically switches off when the tank is full (like it does with any other car), however with the jeep gasoline immediately gushes out of the filler hole. i'd estimate that at least a pint to a quart of fuel spills (and sometimes sprays) out. if someone is standing near-by they will get soaked with gasoline. this doesn't always happen, but seems to be occurring more frequently. not only is this an inconvenience, it's an environmental hazard and a fire risk. what happens if someone's pant-leg gets soaked in gasoline (as has happened to me) and then they pick-up a mild static charge when entering/ exiting the vehicle (which is not uncommon). someone is going to get hurt. i cannot let anyone put gas in the jeep (like my wife). anyone who is not familiar with this 'quirk' will likely get soaked with fuel at some point when filling up the jeep. *tr

When i get gas the pump doesn't shut off and gas spills on the ground. it has happened multiple times at many different filling stations. *js

The evaporated system in the jeep in turning engine light and will not pass safety and emissions without fixing it. we have a new fuel cap and have also checked the console and it still turns on heard this was a known issue but no recalls for it. *tr

When filling up, even on the lowest setting, the auto shut-off doesn't occur and gasoline sprays out. *js

Fuel filler shut of flap does not shut off fuel filler resulting in gas spilling out of vehical on to the ground. *tr

When filling with gas . gas shot out soaking my clothes hands and face . luckily had someone assist me to restroom to clear eyes and wash face .. this is so scary my grand son was right there could have been bad .please help this needs fixed. recall please help! *tr

Gas erupts from fill tube when pump clicks off, spilling on side of vehicle and on ground. happens whenever pump is allowed to run till it automatically clicks off. *tr

Gas erupts from fill tube when pump clicks off, spilling on side of vehicle and on ground, happens every time the pump is allowed to run until it automatically clicks off. *tr

When refilling gas the auto shutoff doesn't work correctly and fuel spills out onto vehicle and ground as it doesn't shut off soon enough. gas can splash on person holding nozzle or near vehicle. fire and pollution risk. *tr

When refueling my jeep, fuel was expelled from the filer neck at the same time the fuel pump cut off automatically. i was covered in gasoline this time after the fuel was expelled from the tank. this has happened on every refill starting about 6 months ago but the first time i have been doused with fuel. the jeep dealer indicated that a recall had been initiated on hundreds of wranglers but not the 2005 jeep wranglers for the same problem. this is an incredibly dangerous situation and the consumer needs your help!! many online articles from organizations like edmunds and consumer reports has indicated this is a serious problem and the problem needs to be identified by your organization and chrysler needs to recall the vehicles. *tr

Regarding my 2005 jeep wrangler, this has been an ongoing issue for the past two years or more. fuel system/tank overflows when attempting to fill the tank. instead of stopping, gas spews from the fill valve onto the vehicle, ground, and person filling the tank. this is not only unsafe and uneconomical, but bad for the environment and ones health.

I was filling up my gas tank. when tank was full, gas spilled out of filler all over my vehicle and ground before it would stop. after further research, this is a known problem with this year wrangler. *tr

Every time i go to fill up my gas tank- once the fuel pump reaches the full amount the fuel starts coming out of the tank spilling all over the side of my wrangler and sometimes on my shoes. even when i slow pump the gas into the tank, once it reaches a certain point (which i can never tell because most vehicles make the gas pump click off once full) it almost always automatically purges itself. *tr

Fuel spills out of filler hose almost every time i fill up fuel. the gas spills out all over the ground at the gas station. i complained to chrysller hq and they said, its been noted and my vehicle does not qualify for the recalls that they have on the later model jeep wranglers with the same problem.

About 1 year ago the gas tank started over flowing when i put gas in. i initially thought it was a pump problem but it got worse over time. when i fill the tank it over flows about a cup of gas. when i contacted the dealer they knew about the problem and said it happens on some jeeps. the problem is the roll over valve sticks open. the only fix is to replace the complete gas tank - $1,250.00. neither the dealer nor chrysler would take responsibility for fixing the problem although chrysler acknowledged it was a design defect not a manufacturing defect. if there are 1 million jeeps on the road with this problem, their drivers fill up once a week, and spill a cup each that amounts to 60 thousand gallons of gas dumped into the environment a week. seems like chrysler should be more concerned about the problem and either you or the epa should encourage them to take ownership. *tr

I just bought this jeep 2 weeks ago, every time i go to fill up with gas, no matter which gas station i am at the gas always comes spewing out. i have tried many things, even positioning the gas handle at different angles ect. i have done a lot of research and it seems this is a faulty fuel tank/evap. that needs to be replaced to fix this. i have talked to dealer ships saying that the tank needs to be replaced. in my opinion this should be a recall. my jeep only has 37000 miles on it, and i already have to replace the fuel tank!? i think jeep/chrysler needs to foot the bill on this one... *tr
