Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2005 Jeep Wrangler

I own a 2005 jeep wrangler unlimited (lj) that i purchased in march of this year. from day 1, like many others, when i fill the vehicle's fuel tank, the pump will not shut off, causing fuel to spray / spill out and run down the body onto the ground. this is obviously a fire and environmental hazard and needs to be checked into. don't even get me started on the death wobble. *tr

Just purchased this used jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon about 2 1/2 months ago and everytime i fill the gas tank, fuel pukes back out the filler opening and runs down the side all over the ground before the gas pump can shut off. seems really dangerous not to mention making a big, embarrassing mess. it does not matter where i refuel, happens at all gas stations. *tr

While fueling my jeep, fuel came spewing from the filler neck before the pump shut off. this caused approximately 1/8 gallon of fuel to spill on my vehicle and myself. while driving after this incident i had to pull over and get out of my vehicle as i was becoming disoriented from exposure to the fuel/fuel vapors that spilled on me. luckily i was able to realize quickly that my level of alertness was deteriorating and was able to pull over, roll down my windows, and allow the fumes to dissipate. i feel that this is a very big safety concern that could cause a serious accident if not addressed and fixed quickly. *tr

Gas tank overflows when filling with fuel. *tr

Every time when fueling the car, the gas tank overflows. the shut off valve is faulty. the jeep boards have many documented incidents of this occurring. the car is a 2005 but only has 20,000 miles on it. there are recalls for 2007 and newer but nothing for my car which is a 2005. the response from jeep is it is the fault of the gas. ethanol causes the shut off valve to expand. from my perspective it's faulty engineering. *js

When refueling, once the fuel tank is full the service station fuel supply hose nozzle clicks off, then a surge of fuel expels from the jeep fuel tank fill port splashing onto the vehicle exterior, onto myself, and onto the ground. this is a serious fire hazard. it appears to be a common problem with the jeep wrangler across many years, with no resolution to date. *tr

Every time you fuel the vehicle, it overflows gas badly as the pump cuts off. this happens regardless of the pump or location that i buy fuel from. it dumps gas all over the side of the car and on the ground. significant amount of gas spills out. *tr

While filling the vehicle the gas pump shuts off and then fuel comes pouring out of the fuel fill on the vehicle. there are lots of complaints online regarding this issue with jeep and this has the potential for severe injury and property damage due to the fuel spilling on the ground and possibly exploding. *tr

I had my fuel tank replaced by jeep a little over 2 years ago for the "roll over valve" problem - faulty fuel tank design that jeep refuses to acknowledge that its a common problem. as well as a safety and environmental hazard -- every time the gas pump clicks off, fuel violently shoots all over the paint, ground, and my person. the replacement tank has started doing this again after maybe 20,000 miles! jeep replaced a faulty, hazardous part with another. this is an outrage that every time i go to the gas station i have to worry about fuel shooting all over the place, its embarrassing as well. i made an nhtsa complaint the first time but i am making another since the replacement part is doing the exact same thing! *tr

I traced a loud screeching noise to the oil pump drive assembly. as the engine warmed up the noise subsided but continues to occur.on line research shows this to be a common problem for the 05-06 wranglers due to a design change from 04 to 05 model years where a bushing at the top of the cam position sensor/oil pump drive that seizes due to lack of lubrication and causes the drive gear on the oil pump shaft to self destruct taking with it the camshaft drive gear which causes loss of oil pressure.dodge issued the e05 mar 2005 campaign-engine oil pump drive gear/cam replacement. letters were sent to dealers to replace the drive gears and cams damaged by this problem. the notification applies to the 4.0 l engine built from oct 20, 2004 to feb 1, 2005. my local dodge dealer informed me that my jeep has an oct 9, 2004 build date and is therefore not eligible for the recall even though the pictures i showed him of the damage to the gears in my engine. the dealer suggested i try customer service. they referred me to nhtsa to seek a resolution. so after investing over $12,000 dollars a month ago to purchase what i expected would be a reliable winter vehicle i instead have a vehicle that sits in my driveway because we are afraid to drive it. it can't be trusted on the road and i can't risk using it and facing a $4,000.00 engine rebuild if it seizes. i need some help. *tr

Every time since purchasing my jeep on nov 26th 2013 when filling the fuel tank as it clicks off fuel spits out of the filler neck and on to the body and on the ground. even when manually filling it spits fuel out before you can release the nozzle. if you are standing in the wrong position it lands on your clothes and shoes. this creates a safety risk of fire as well as the environmental damage. *tr

When i go to fill up when it gets full it spills out of the top all over side of jeep and ground saw there is others out there having same problem very unsafe. i am second owner jeep should doing something about this. please help. *tr

Filling up my gas tank the tank overflows every time. tried several gas stations and the same thing happened every time. talked to other jeep wrangler owners and several of them have had the same problems. *tr

Each time i fuel my jeep if i let the gas automatically run it will not click the pump off when the gas tank is full. it continues to run overflowing everywhere. *js

Gas overflows and rushes out when pumping gas when tank becomes full. *tr

Vehicle overflows gasoline when filling tank. after nozzle clicks off, several ounces of fuel are expelled through the filler neck, damaging paint and causing a safety hazard. *tr

I bought this vehicle used and noticed that when filling the tank it actually splashes fuel out of the fill tube every time the gas station nozzle clicks off when full. i have driven this jeep from north carolina to michigan and used several different styles of nozzles from gas stations in many states. i have attempted to slow the fuel delivery, angle the nozzle differently, stop early and resume filling. the result is always the same. enough fuel to run down a square foot area on my car and leave a puddle on the ground will always shoot out under pressure. i end up with gas on my car, on me and on the ground. this can not be considered safe for my well being or the environment. i have been told that i need to replace my gas tank, a $1200 repair, to fix the problem. *tr

When filling up the gas tank on my 2005 jeep wrangler unlimited, the gas tank over flows and spews gas out down the side of the body and onto the concrete. it leaves a puddle of gasoline about 8 ounces or so. *tr

When the gas tank is filled on my 05 jeep wrangler unlimited, the pump does not stop properly, spilling gas over the vehicle, the ground, and the individual pumping the gas. this happens every time, regardless of gas station.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep wrangler. the contact stated that the fuel tank filler neck and when refueling, the fuel would spill to the ground. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the fuel tank filler neck was replaced however, the failure was not corrected. the fuel continued to spill to the ground as the fuel tank was being filled. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 75,344 and the approximate current mileage was 76,000. updated 04/30/13*lj the dealer ordered a new fuel tank.

Gas tank valve seems to be stuck open, every time i fill up gas spills out. if it spills out when pumping, what keeps it from spilling out in a rollover or crash? *js

Fuel tank spill when fueling. happens every time i fuel this vehicle. gas spills out of the fill tube when pump shuts off. i think this could be a seriuos fire hazard and environmental disaster. *tr

When filling up the 2005 jeep wrangler rubicon with gasoline, the tank overflows at the filling point every time, before the pump shuts off. it happens at every station, every time. it is not operator error. *js

Every time i fill up the gas tank the gas spits out of the filler neck. it does not matter if i go slow or fast. it always happens. *tr

When gas tank is filled completely at a gas station. the pump kicks off and then fuel proceeds to spill back out of the jeep. it seems to be about 8 oz or so. *tr

Everytime i fill the gas tank the gas overflow on to the ground after the gas hose shuts off. *js

When filling gas in nj the gas almost always spits out before the tank is full. since this is nj, by law this has full service, so these are professionals that are filling the gas, not me. this is a very dangerous problem that needs to be addressed. *tr

When fueling up, nozzle does not shut off and fuel spills out onto me and ground. *tr

Gasoline spews out of tank when clicking off when full. this can be very dangerous and gets gasoline on my truck and i have had gasoline spewed on me before. it's not fun going to work smelling like a gas station. there are so many complaints on this issue, why isn't the manufacturer required to fix this dangerous problem? *tr

When filling up with gas the fuel gushes out of the gas hole when the pump clicks off. *tr

When refueling the vehicle, fuel pump never shuts off. this has been a problem with the vehicle now for a long time. the fuel system allows the pump to continue running after the tank is full. it does not matter what gas station i go to. gasoline always overflows and spills out onto the ground. i was recently refueling my and the vehicle and the pump did not shut off. a substantial amount of gas flowed out onto the ground and something lit the fuel vapors causing a small fire. i was able to put it out with an extinguisher. this could have caused the entire gas station to catch fire/explode and is extremely dangerous. *tr ..updated 09/12/12 *bf updated 09/12/2012 *js

On february 18th 2012, i purchased a used 2005 jeep wrangler rubicon from a jeep dealership. every time i've filled up for gas, there is an over spill of about 1/8 of a gallon. this happened on 2/27/12, 2/29/12 , 3/15/12, 3/25/12, and 4/23/12. even when slowing down towards the end of the fill up, it still spills over, just less severe. i took it into the dealer. they performed a fuel system software upgrade on 4/06/12, but that did not correct the problem. this is a huge nuisance (not to mention safety/fire hazard) and from what little research i've done, does not sound like an isolated problem. *tr

Gas tank over flows every time at fill up. *tr

Pump kicks off every 2/10ths of a gallon while pumping fuel. happens whether you are at full flow or just letting it trickle. *tr

When filling the car with gasoline, the automatic shut off does not occur and fuel blows out of the jeep and down on the ground and me if i am close. it appears that a substantial amount of fuel spills. this occurs at all fill ups it is not gas station specific. this can be a danger if it spews on something hot. also i would think that it's an environmental concern and it stinks. very frustrating problem! *tr

As gas tank approaches full while fueling, the fuel spills out of the filler neck at a high rate without warning. *tr

When filling up with fuel, the fuel tank system does not automatically shut off until after fuel has spilled out of the fuel tank door and onto the ground. *tr

When filling gas tank, gasoline spews from the filler neck prior to the automatic shut-off on the pump engaging. this has been an issue with this particular vehicle since 2008.

Fuel fill spits out fuel every time i fill the tank. it is a dangerous situation due to the volatility of gas. *tr

Gas is overflowing when i fuel up. this has happened 5 times already. *tr

My 2005 jeep wrangler tj will spit fuel each time i fill the vehicle (overflow) and it will spill gasoline all over the side of the vehicle and on the ground. *tr

When fueling the vehicle, gasoline overflows and spews out of the gas tank opening. this happens each time the vehicle is fueled and occurs as the tank reaches full. this is an extremely dangerous and unhealthy situation which needs to be addressed by the vehicle manufacturer. i was shocked to find this is a known and widely reported issue, but not yet resolved by chrysler. *tr

When refueling a significant quantity (estimated at 8 ounces or more) of gasoline is "spit back" or discharged from the fuel filler opening as the tank reaches full. this discharge produces a puddle of gasoline at least 24" in diameter and leaves the exterior and underside of the fender dripping with gasoline and depending on the filler hose configuration may soak the clothing of the person operating the pump. this event occurs every time the vehicle is refueled unless care is taken to stop adding fuel before the tank reaches full capacity. clearly this creates a very dangerous, environmentally hazardous and potentially life threatening situation!! *tr

A large amount of fuel violently erupts from tank mouth when filling and overflows onto the vehicle, ground & myself. this occurs at each complete fill-up. this 2005 jeep wrangler sporadically trips obd-2 check engine codes for emission evaporative components, in the p0440-p0456 range. *tr

When filling the vehicle up with gasoline at a service station an overflow condition occurs where a significant volume of gasoline spews out of the filler neck. the overflow of gasoline is enough to douse the operator performing the fillup, run down the side of the vehicle, and leave a large puddle of gasoline on the ground. *tr

I recently purchased a 2005 jeep wrangler. every time i fill gas, when the pump shuts off gasoline comes spraying out of the vehicle's tank and all over the ground. approximately a cup or more comes out of the jeep's tank. i think this is a potential fire hazard and should be addressed by the nhtsa as soon as possible before someone is hurt by this defect. a recall for the item should be mandated by the government and jeep should be forced to fix this problem. i have researched this problem on the internet and it seems pretty widespread. *tr

When filling the fuel tank with gas, the gas pump does not shut off when the tank is full. this causes overflow of gas from the tank. an internet search indicates that this is a common issue with jeep wranglers. *tr

The automatic fuel shut-off does not work causing fuel tank to be overfilled. i have fuel spillage every time and it doesn't a matter how fast the fuel is pumped. *tr

Gas tank spits back out gas as soon as the filling stops. there is enough gas lost to spill down the side of the jeep and onto the ground. i have used different pumps at the same station and finally went to other stations and the same has happened each time i gas up my vehicle. i just returned from the jeep dealership and they told me the problem was in the check valve and i would need a costly replacement of the whole tank. i see now that this is a common problem with this gas tank. losing even a small amount of gas is costly not to mention the potential danger of free gas spilling out. a recall is needed which is not limited to only certain years. *kb

Fuel tank overflows each and every time the vehicle is filled with fuel. i had a 2004 jeep wrangler and never had this problem.
