Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2006 Jeep Liberty

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. while operating the vehicle, a loud and sudden banging noise occurred due to the rear passenger side window suddenly coming off track and falling into the door panel. the contact indicated that the failure occurred on multiple occasions on both passenger side windows and the rear driver side window. each time the failure occurred, the vehicle was taken to westbury jeep/chrysler located in westbury, ny where it was diagnosed that the window regulators failed and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. while driving 65 mph, the rear driver side window independently rolled downwards and failed to roll back up. in addition, the rear passenger side window rolled down independently and failed to roll back up. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the actuators needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 82,000.

After putting my front driver side window down completely, it will not go back up. the motor runs, it makes a sound, but window does not move. i was forced to leave my car parked in a medical center parking garage during my work shift 4:00pm to 12:00am. of course, it was completely unsafe for me, a young female, to return to my open car and had to be escorted by a security officer. i then drove the 25 freeway miles home completely exposed to the elements. having googled the malfunction, i learned that this is a very common issue with the 2006 jeep liberty and is very expensive to repair. i am astounded to also learn that chrysler did not issue a recall on this mechanical failure. as a college student, i am not financially able to incur this expense, nor do i think i should be required to, and am asking that chrysler perform repairs on all four windows at not cost to me. please advise. thank you for your consideration. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the rear driver side window became inoperable without warning. as a result, the rear driver side window fell into the door. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000. update 01/15/16 ma

3 broken windows one is stuck in door one is stuck up and back seat is stuck . all have broken within a week. i cant afford to get all 3 fixed at one time . just for them to break again. *tr

Windows regulators fail .windows just drop when you operate them. every window has done this .for no known reason. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the driver's side window failed to close and came off track. the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle repaired but recurred shortly after. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Left rear window fell with a loud bang. car has never been off road and garaged. mileage around 30,000. dealer fixed it for a charge of $550.00. i have been on line and find that this is a continuing problem because of defect in the window controller. this is a defect and it is wrong for customers to be saddled financially with this issue. vin#[xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The rear driver's side window failed to go up after i had lowered it a little bit. this is the second time this window has had this issue and will be the fifth time i have had this issue since owning the vehicle since 2006. when i contacted the dodge / jeep / chrysler dealership about this issue, they told me the warranty was no longer valid, in other words it expired in march of 2014 and i would now be responsible for paying for any work needed to be done to repair this window issue. this dealership does have my prior records on file in their computer system of the 4 previous times i've been there to have this issue repaired as well. *tr

I kept hearing this noise on right side....window went down and wont come back up..it was like a popping sound. *tr

While driving along the interstate at 65mph the passenger side back window made a pop sound and fell into the door, making a loud bang. amazed the window did not break. this is the second time a window has failed in this vehicle. the driver's side was replaced two years ago and the passenger side front sounds like it is about to go at any time. it is making whining noises when activated and moves very slow. *tt

I was sitting in a parking lot and my back passenger side window fell down. i didn't hit any of the buttons, it just fell. i took it to get looked at and they told me that the window regulator went bad again. this has happened multiple times and i believe it is crazy that this part isn't apart of the recall. the place didn't have any in stock (seems to be a problem probably because it has happened so many times to countless customers), so basically i was charged 110$ for them to look at and tell me what is wrong while me knowing it was either that or the lift plate. don't think i have been more frustrated in my life. *tr

I pulled up to a stop at an intersection. the passenger lowered the passenger front-side window using the electrical button. the window fell into the door and did not come back up when the passenger tried to raise it again. this is the third window this has happened to. each time the diagnosis was a broken window regulator. *tr

As i was driving with my sons in the back seat, we heard a loud bang on the right back passenger side. the window started to roll down into the door shift. i was able to pull over and catch the window and manually push it back up. it then fell completely into the door shift. it was 17 degrees outside and we had to ride all the wayhome with the window down. this is dangerous because the noise surprised us and could have caused and accident. please research this. *tr

Today was the 3rd time my window electrical window mechanism has broke. the first time, chrysler paid to fix it as it was one of their - hidden - defects that they do not wish to publish. now they say that they no longer cover the defect as the car is older. if there is a design issue and a known one, should they not have to stand behind their product? now i will have to spend another $250 or more to get it fixed. jeep needs to stand behind their product. *tr

This has been happening for some time. when i fill up, the gas tanks gushes out gas when it is full. this happens almost every time that i fill up with gas. it seems extremely dangerous as there is enough fuel that spills on to the ground below the jeep. i have replaced every regulator in my jeep's windows. they go out all of the time. the last one went out while driving and the window crashed down and scared me to death. *tr

I have a faulty window regulator in my back right window. i have had each window fixed at least once due to a faulty window regulator. i have one window fixed twice. this issue was previously covered under an extended warranty; however, the latest issue occurred after the extended warrant expired. currently the back right window won't stay up. i've pushed it up on a weekly basis and it slowly falls. i'm concerned that pretty soon i'll have to keep the window up using tape or other measures. it's not safe to drive with the window constantly falling, especially if and when i have children in the back seat of my car. *js

I was driving my vehicle near crater lake national park. the power window motor system broke on the left rear passenger door, thus allowing the window to free fall into the door frame. i have read that this is and has been an ongoing problem with this year of jeep. then now in decmeber, the drivers window motor system has broken again causing the glass window to free fall into the door frame. if this is all true about this system, and the fact that i now have 2 broken power window motors which will cost me nearly $900 to fix, i feel this item should be on a national recall list for jeep to replace these items so they will not fail. it is a safety hazard as it could cause glass to break during driving time and injuring drivers. *tr

The lift plates on all side windows of jeep liberty vehicles can be defective. the window will unexpectedly completely drop down. chrysler corporation accepts the fact there are window defective lift plates. they extended the vehicle warranty to replace the lift plate parts if they fail. to my knowledge chrysler corporation did not notify owners about the defective parts or the extended warranty. i found this information out when the vehicle was taken in for window repair at the jeep chrysler dealership (the faricy boys chrysler, jeep) on september 18, 2013. chrysler knew all the side window parts were defective, but would only replace the window lift plates that were not working on that day. another side window lift plate on the same vehicle failed on may 30, 2013. when driving the vehicle and a window completely drops down it can startle the driver and is a distraction that could cause an accident. the vehicle was again taken in for repair at the jeep chrysler dealership. the dealership said the extended warranty had expired and the cost of repair needed to be paid by the owner. in summary, chrysler corporation knew the side window lift plates are defective, but would not replace all the defective parts. i am asking the nhtsa to order a mandatory recall and require chrysler to fix all window lift plates on the jeep liberties. a defective lift plate can cause the window to unexpectedly drop down and can present driver confusion and a distraction while driving. this can present a dangerous situation to the health and life of americans. thank you. *tr

Car will not blow out cold air but works for a moment then just hot air. thought it needed freon but i am being told new compressor is required $700.00. i spoke to another mechanic who thought the clutch part is the real issue. the car is garage kept and well maintained. replacing clutch first. i have seen several similar complaints online too. windows 3 of 4 have dropped. *tr

Have now had to replace all four power window regulators. 75,000 miles

This is the sixth time one of the windows has gotten stuck all the way down. i have a child, and cannot drive with open windows. not only am i worried about theft, but i don't want anything flying into the car while driving. it is saturday, and i won't be able to get in touch with the dealership until tuesday, due to the memorial day weekend. i will morre than likely have to miss work because i can't drive on the freeway with a window down, and i have to park in an area that is not good. *tr

We were driving down the road and we went to roll down the rear window and it fell into the door and wouldn't go up or down. when we stopped to attempt to fix the window the door will not open at all. *tr

Continued issues with window regulators. this is the forth time the same part has broken. the two rear windows have broken and been fixed 3 times and now the front passenger side window regulator. during all of the incidents we have been driving the vehicle. jeep knows about this issue and has many many complaints about it. mopar knows about this issue and has changed material that they part is made out of. *tr

My rear driver side window stopped working and would slide down until it slid down so much i had to pull it up just for it to fall completely into the door the next day. i called the dealership and they wont fix it because it was manufactured before the recall date. i have two small children and cant drive them anywhere because its to cold and the wind is to much. i can barely afford food much less a $240 window repair. *tr

Driver side window dropped - it's the window regulator - again. have replaced the other window plates and regulators in this car 4 times! really scary when you're driving and the window suddenly drops! especially nice when it's pouring out! previously was reimbursed by chrysler for repairs, but now they've 'changed their policy' (really????). this will cost me $375 at my own shop as opposed to $508 at the jeep dealership. i wouldn't care if it was twice the price, i'm not giving jeep a dime! this should have been a recall item, they should be ashamed of themselves. *tr

The windows fall down into the door. this has happened repeatedly, sometimes when driving on the highway and is dangerous. jeep should replace the faulty window regulators. *tr

2006 jeep liberty. consumer writes in regards to defective window parts installed in vehicle. *smd the consumer stated the window has been replaced five times within the last four months, in addition, to the previous 11-12 replacements in 2007. the consumer stated using the same defective parts was not going to fix the problem. also, when the windows were down, there was a thumping and wind noise, that was unbearable. the consumer stated things were stolen out of his vehicle, because the windows would not go up. also there was a noise coming from the rear of the vehicle and the doors would vibrate when the windows were down.

In august of 2011 my rear passanager window fell down while i was driving. august nov 20 2012 my window again fell down where my infant sits and its the start of winter. i understand there is an issue with this on models 2004-2007 however they are not covering this as a recall. this is clearly a safety issue. the manager bill said that he pretty much didnt care neither did gloria the csr rep whom hung up on me when she said she was going to put me on hold after 10 min or brenda who said that they just don't do good this kind of service for people. *tr

Left rear power window regulator assembly failed when trying to raise the window. i heard a loud pop, followed the sound of the motor working, but the window wouldn't raise. scary, as my small child was in the seat next to the window. i have been given an estimate of $428 to fix the problem. i am adding my complaint to the long list in the hopes that chrysler & jeep would finally fix this systemic issue. since this is both a safety and security issue, maybe the nhtsa can help! *tr

The right rear passenger window while driving 65 mph the right rear window without warning dropped all the way down into the door. this startled my 7 year old son who was sitting there and it almost caused me to lose control of the vehicle because my sons reaction startled me. *tr

While driving the 2006 jeep liberty across the country from pa to tx the 2nd back window fell into the door with our dog in the back, this could of caused an accident. this happened to both my back windows, both these are child safety windows, and if someone had a child in a car seat in these jeeps could have had a potential accident when this happened, winter months, storms etc. please recall these hazardous window regulators on the 2006 jeep liberty. i was told by the local dealership, the chrysler company will pay 1/2 for the repair,. i am asking for an immediate recall and replacement for the window regulators before someone gets seriously hurt. *tr

While driving a passenger on the rear left side of my car attempted to roll down the window. we then heard a pop and the window was half way down and began to fall. we were able to keep the window from falling into the door. the motor continued to sound as if it was working but would not allow the window to go up or down. approximately 6 months later the rear right side window was being rolled down and we again heard a popping sound and the window again would not roll up or down. after research it seems that this is a common occurrence and due to having two out of four windows on my car alone experience this problem it seems very strange to me that this has not been issued as a recall and is costing owners of these vehicles over $400 per window to fix this problem. this is a safety hazard for the risk of someone breaking in to a vehicle and also the risk of the window falling and breaking putting anyone in the back seat of the vehicle at risk of injury, including my daughter. *tr

Left rear power window regulator failed causing window to fall. inability to closed window creates cabin pressure oscillations at all speeds. the pressure oscillations create a distraction to the driver and impair the driver's hearing. *tr

This is the 2nd time i have accessed your website with a complaint for the same problem.. i reported my other complaint on 09/20/2010. my rear windows just fall down for no reason. on 8/15/12 i walked out and noticed my rear driver side car window was down. when i tried to put it up, it just made a grinding noise. it just slips down into the window space leaving me with an open window while driving down the interstate in the rain. the same thing happened two years ago to both rear windows to the same vehicle. i was told by the dealership there was a defect in the 2006 jeep liberty's where this happens. it appears the windows and part that raises and lowers the window is one unit which is made of plastic. apparently it is very cheap and fragile and breaks for no reason. you have to buy the whole window/mechanical assembly and it is very expensive. please help me get my window fixed. *tr

Driver rear window fell down. tested and repaired rear window regulator and assembly. *tr

Both of my rear window regulators broke while i was rolling down the windows after being in the sun all day. this is the 3rd jeep liberty that i have had that has had this problem. jeep wants me to pay $300 to get these replaced. this is a known problem and jeep refuses to take care of it. locking my vehicle is pointless since the windows fall down. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the rear driver side window regulator failed. the lift plate for the regulator was poorly designed and the plastic parts fractured. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. the failure and the current mileage was 106,000.

I have reviewed that there are have been multiple complaints regarding faulty window regulators on these particular chrysler vehicles. these plates in the window regulators give out causing the auto glass to slide down inside the door. i have had to have both rear regulators replaced twice and recently my front passenger regulator gave out. i have had 3 regulators replaced prior to my vehicle reaching 30,000 miles. my recent issue: my front window began to lower on its on while i was driving when i attempted to raise the window with the switch it then immediately fell down inside the door causing rain/hail to enter my vehicle while i was driving. i contacted chrysler and they have offered no solution stating there is no recall for this part even though there are numerous consumer complaints about the faulty regulators. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the rear driver side window fell into the door panel haphazardly. the vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic who replaced the window regulator. three weeks later the failure recurred. the vehicle had not been further repaired. the failure and current mileages were 70,000.

While driving with my daughter, i pushed the button to close the open sunroof and heard a loud popping noise. a part flew off of the vehicle and the sunroof would no longer close. after taking it to the dealership, it was determined that the entire module failed and needed replacing. i only had 37,500 miles on the vehicle. this repair cost over $1000 and had to be done as a security issue would exist with an open sunroof that is not able to be closed. contacted chrysler jeep and they refused to cover any of the cost for this defective part. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the window actuator continued to fail on the vehicle. the rear passenger side was replaced three times and the rear driver side twice. the contact stated that the window could only be partially opened when the window was operating properly, but the window would fall all the way down into the door panel when it failed. the dealer advised the contact that the failure was common and the manufacturer would have the window regulators replaced. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 77,000.

I own a 2006 jeep liberty. the rear left window fell. i never received any recall letter stating there was a problem with the windows. april 2013 i came out of work to find my diver side window down. called the dealership and they informed me that there was only two months before the recall was over. last year i started having problems with my check engine light coming on. i was told that it could be 1 of 2 things plugs or o2 sensors. i had the plugs and the upper and lower bank o2 sensors done 9 months ago. my check engine light has gone on and off over the last 7 months. i can't afford to do the sensors every time the light goes on. i have had fuel spill problems that started about a month ago. when filling my gas tank the pump doesn't shut off fast enough and there is an overflow of gasoline. not only is this a fire hazard but with the price of gas its a lot money wasted. also two weeks ago my jeep has been losing power while driving. *tr

The rear passenger side window regulator failed again. driving and the back window dropped without notice. this is a costly repair and its an ongoing problem . you need to make the mfg step up and make a permanent solution for a ongoing problem. i see you have had several complaints on the same issue. this is a safety issue as well. *tr
