We have classified the 35 complaints from 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
Arrived home 10:15pm dry roads and weather. backing jeep into driveway and went to full throttle back to hit the garage structure and door. shifted two drive to move out into the driveway and went to full throttle forward, across the street, through the swale into a vacant lot and hit the avista power transformer box knocking its off the base and pulling the 7,000 volt power cables out. jeep then stopped and i backed it back into the driveway and stopped. avista crew arrived and safed the transformer. resulting damage was $3,007 to house and garage door, $16,275 damage to front/back/undercarriage on jeep and about $4,880 to replace the avista transformer. car rental now 60 days at $42.00 per day. estimated total is now $26,682.
I was easing our 2015 jeep grand cherokee into a parking spot at a trail head parking lot with my foot on the brake pedal. i fully engaged the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, and the vehicle accelerated at full throttle over the top of a 2.5 ft by 2.5 ft cement block parking barrier. it dragged the cement block about 20-25 ft. i continued to press the brake and after about 40 ft, the vehicle came to a stop. i immediately turned the vehicle off. it was terrifying not to be in control of the vehicle. fortunately, no one was injured. damage to the vehicle is yet to be determined, but even if it is repaired, there is no way i would feel comfortable driving it again. this vehicle should be totaled and not resold to anyone else. i have been a loyal jeep owner for over 20 years, but i am not sure i would purchase another one, especially now that i have researched the issue and realize that this is a rare but reoccurring problem with the jeep grand cherokee for 20+ years.
While driving donw a main road the gas pedal suddenly stopped working and would not engage. i could not get the car to move forward but it was still running. i pulled the vehicle over to stop and turn the car off. turned the vehicle back on to see if the gas pedal would re-engage, i was able to drive 100ft and it happened again. i then "rolled" into an empty lot on the side of the road where smoke was noticed coming out of the hood. i popped the hood but did not open it and called 911. while on the phone with 911, a loud pop was heard under the hood, sparks were seen and the car caught fire.*dt*jb
While traveling approximately 70 miles per hour (on a highway), on two occasions working 24 hours, the vehicle shifted from drive into neutral with no manipulation of the shifter. there was no warning of the impending loss of mechanical power to the drive wheels, and i was forced to coast to the shoulder of the road. no other systems (brakes or power steering as well as other electrical systems appeared to be affected. once on the shoulder and completely stopped, i attempted to shift the vehicle back into drive, but was prompted 'shift not allowed - vehicle speed too high' despite the fact that the speedometer read 0 mph. next, i pushed the start/stop button and the vehicle did not power down, but did allow me to shift into drive. the error has not replicated more than once per start up sequence (if it happens once while driving, pull over and restart, the error seems to not recur for the duration the vehicle is in motion for the rest of the trip). oil pressure and temperature as well as transmission temperature were reported as within normal operating ranges. i checked the vehicles oil level which was within the 'safe' zone on the dipstick. the vehicle had over 1/2 a tank of gas. this issue is new to the unit, with over 16 months of operating the vehicle it has only occurred within the past 24 hours. the issue is not preceded by any notification, and no mil's were activated either before or after the failure to shift. it is worth noting the key fob is low on battery, but the issue occurs solely in motion. i will be visiting the dealer prior for troubleshooting prior to operating the vehicle again.
Out of nowhere, my 2015 jeep gc decelerated, all the lights on the dash came on and the following messages popped up: auto park disabled, service electronic throttle control, and ended with service shifter. the truck would not accelerate in the middle of a highway. i took the vehicle to the dealer where they cannot seem to find the problem. the windshield wipers turned themselves on along with the check engine light and the hazards.
The check engine light came on and the vehicle's electronic throttle control systems was inoperable. upon stopping and releasing the brake the vehicle lunges forward accelerating suddenly to 20 miles per hour. when place in reverse the vehicle and releasing the brake the vehicle lunges as well. additionally, when the check engine light and electronic throttle control indicator light is on, after lunging, the vehicle will not allow you to accelerate beyond 30 to 40 mph after the initial lunge. i have had two incidents that have damaged my car. it only happens when the vehicle is in drive or reverse making it unsafe to operate.
Takata recall- while driving at speeds above 35 miles, it feels as if the vehicle slows down as if the gears changed and it requires more pressure to be applied to the gas accelerator for the vehicle to go the same speed. this has happened multiple times at speeds of approximately 35 and over.
Received a service shifter message while going from park to drive on dash board display recently 3 times. i read online others have experienced this same issue.
While driving in stop and go traffic i was stopped with my foot in the brake pedal the engine started revving into high rpms the car stated surging and the brakes wouldn't stop the car. i rear ended the vehicle in front of me. *js
Driving down an open road, suddenly the "brake now" warning starts beeping and brakes are automatically applied. this has happened several times with no vehicles, etc in front of the vehicle. happened even after the recall was completed on it for the cruise control system.
The vehicle was being parked and from shifting from drive to reverse the vehicle turned off and would not start again for a few minutes. the vehicle showed the service keyless system and the check engine light then appeared.
The incident occurred on or about thursday, april 10th 2019 at 12:10am. it involves the brakes of the vehicle not being able to stop the vehicle at low speeds. the entire incident was captured on a high-quality front-facing dashboard camera with audio, video, and gps. there were no injuries. description of the incident is as follows: while i was on the interstate 10 west freeway in redlands, ca, i maneuvered to the most right lane on the highway in preparation to approach an exit less than 1 mile away (university ave.) due to lane closures (left lanes) at the time i was on the freeway, traffic was bumper-to-bumper and very low speed. while in the most right lane and still at very low speed, i engaged the adaptive cruise control feature on the vehicle. within around 5 seconds of engaging the adaptive cruise control, the vehicle slowed down to a stop because of the vehicle in front of mine had stopped. at that point, the cruise control feature self-disengaged as normal. only a few seconds later, the vehicle possibly abnormally vibrated. as the vehicle continued to creep forward in traffic as normal, i applied the brakes to stop, but the vehicle would not stop or slow down. as i nearly approached colliding with the vehicle ahead of me, i engaged the parking/emergency brake with my foot, and that did not seem to slow or stop the vehicle either. a second attempt to engage the parking brake did nothing as well. within a few seconds, the car almost slowed to a stop due to rolling friction and a slight uphill grade in that portion of the freeway. i placed the vehicle in park at this time and restarted the car. after restarting, i was able to drive and brake properly the rest of my short journey home. this entire episode is captured on my dashboard camera, and it seems others on the internet have complained about this issue as well.
Driving my grand cherokee on i-40 with cruise control set to 75, i entered a construction zone and applied the brakes to slow down. instead of slowing down, the car accelerated up to about 90 mph. i was speeding in and out of traffic like a mad person and, luckily, i managed to keep my wife and i alive. then the brakes were on the floor, i could not disconnect the cruise control, could not shift out of gear and could not turn the car off. after a period of time, we began a slight incline and the car slowed. then i had control for a short time when the power steering went out; it came back on after about a minute. we were towed to the nearest dealer (70 miles) and the car remained there in order for chrysler to send a team to investigate. after 4 weeks chrysler informed me that there was no problem. tell the truth, i competely expected them to not take blame for this. this was the most frightening thing that has ever happened to me - i thought for sure that we would be killed - weaving in and out of diesel trucks and construction zone. i took out barriers and traffic cones in my effort to save us. i had serious concerns about operating this vehicle again but my thought is that chrysler probably fixed the problem without taking responsibility for it. i did discover that there is something you can do if you are in this predicament and i wish i had known about it before. if you hold in on the start button for a few seconds, the car will turn off. i had held in on the start button but, evidently, not for long enough. i hope that this message can get out to other jeep owners and that this action could save lives.
Note: i entered an erroneous vin number on my complaint a few minutes ago. my description of the problem was listed on that complaint.
When in motion, transmission downshifts to first gear. engine races.
Vehicle's forward collision warning (fcw) system activated a brake! alert with no hazard present. driver information center keeps displaying message indicating acc (active cruise control)/fcw system not available off & on. vehicle was in motion at the time of the false alert.
I've read about a recall regarding the cruise control but haven't received the notice and my dealer will not take care of the problem without it. i want it fixed so i can use my cruise control
I have a 2015 grand cherokee that has been in for the rollaway recall. tonight i pulled into a parking lot, got out of the car quickly to see how far i pulled in, and the car started rolling backwards. i thought the car was in park but in turn it was not. the car was in reverse. previous to tonight i've had this happen and as soon as you let go of the brake, if the door is open, the "auto park" kicks in and the vehicle goes into park. that did not happen. i was able to catch the car before it went to far and get it in park. after that incident i took videos on the behavior. repeatedly going from park, to reverse, or drive with the door open, taking my foot of the brake and every time it rolled and auto park did not apply. turned the car off and on a few times and still, no auto park. the videos are to large to fit into the 5 mb limit but can be sent by any other means you have available or here is a link to them on onedrive. https://1drv.ms/f/s!airasnb8ajcyg1xqr6wwntqyirj8 i do not feel safe driving this car as the recall does not work. if a satisfactory fix cannot be made i would like to discuss what options are available to me. thanks....updated 11/13/2017 *bf the consumer stated the another trigger for the auto park was wearing a seatbelt. the seat belt has to be off, not in park, and the driver's door open in order for it to work properly. this seemed to be the intended behavior so, the consumer would like to have the complaint disregarded. updated 11/30/2017*js
I was traveling up interstate 95 just passed exit 26 in connecticut. as i approached exit 27 a a vehicle in the exit only lane merged into the slow lane in front of me. i proceeded to then accelerate around the vehicle that had crossed in front of me and immediately as i accelerated the vehicle began to accelerate uncontrollably to an unsafe speed. i shifted the car into neutral and braked and steered appropriately. as my vehicle began to slow i then proceeded to shift the car back into drive hoping that the issue would be resolved. while my vehicle was a neutral i tapped the gas pedal in hopes of if it was jammed or stock it would come loose and i would be able to control the acceleration of the vehicle. unfortunately the pedal did not come on stock as i proceeded to drive i realize that my speed was dropping to an unsafe rate while being on an interstate i proceeded to shift my car back into drive only to have the pedal that was still pressed to the floor accelerate the vehicle uncontrollable to again in unsafe speed. after i proceeded to stomp on the throttle in hopes of loosening it from whatever it was that was causing it to be stuck in the open position, the pedal finally returned to its on stock position with a loud bang. i don't proceeded to steer immediately off the highway at the next available exit and turn the vehicle off...updated 04/20/17 *bf ..updated 05/09/17 *bf the consumer stated the floor mat closest to the accelerator was trimmed, but the failure recurred. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. *js *cn
I own a 2015 jeep grand cherokee laredo limited, purchased from a dealer new. last week i pulled into my driveway, turned the jeep off and went to get out and my alarm system went off. could not turn it off with either fob, i was even able to start it up and drive. remote start would not work for 3 days. cruise control just turns off when it wants while driving on interstate over 60 mph. gps states i'm off route and freezes in the location where it happened on interstate, normal weather(no overcast/fog). wipers just start working while sitting in the driveway idling, as you're driving...no dust, rain, bugs etc...windshield leaks and rain comes in from behind the rearview mirror/sunglass holder when it rains and you have to take a sharp turn(not with normal turns)...leaks down on cell phone which sits in little cubby to charge. the vehicle surges when going under 20 mph, usually when you are trying to start from a stop is when it' worse. under 25k miles and i am afraid as to what might happen next.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. the contact experienced difficulty shifting the vehicle. the failure did not occur until after the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v240000 (power train). the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the vehicle was not repaired due to the technician stating that the vehicle performed as intended. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue the failure mileage was approximately 12,000. updated 01/05/2017*ct updated 05/09/17*lj the consumer stated the 2 weeks after the recall was performed the transmission malfunctioned. after shutting the engine off and restarting it 3 times it shifted into gear. on another occasion the while traveling down a hill at 65mph, on cruise control, the engine went from 2000rpm to 5000rpm. the odometer went from 65mph to 75 mph. the vehicle was slowing down while the engine was loud and running at a high rpm. the only way to stop it was to hit the brake or shift to neutral. also, when accelerating from a stop the transmission would make a noise and bump as if rear-ended. updated 08/03/2017*js consumer stated after starting vehicle the transmission would not leave neutral. engine was roaring very louldly until consumer stepped on the brakes. this happened 3 times. updated 7/6/18*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the contact stated that the speedometer read a higher speed than the actual speed of the vehicle. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train) however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. the contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure the failure mileage was approximately 32,000. part distribution disconnect. updated 03/01/17*lj *cn
The vehicle locked when i was stopped in traffic in the highway, rendering the vehicle disabled in traffic while in drive. i pressed on the gas pedal but did not move. i hit my emergency lights placed the car in park and then shifted back to drive but got no movement. i then turned off the vehicle and restarted the vehicle and was able to move off the highway and took the surface streets to get home. i saw on this "site" there is a recall for 2016 models which is recall s28.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. when placing the vehicle in park, it rolled away without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 5,000.
Vehicle often does not engage in gear. eventually when it catches gear, the vehicle lunges considerably in gear forcing the car to jerk forward. it happens more often when going slow in traffic or going up and down hills. very unstable in these situations. in one specific situation in traffic, car did not catch gear and then when it engaged, jerked forward into car in front of me.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. after switching to the park position and exiting with the engine running, the vehicle suddenly drove forward and struck a second vehicle. the contact sustained an injured right arm. medical attention was not required. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. also, while driving at various speeds, the collision avoidance system randomly activated and caused the braking system to abruptly stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 1,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle independently engaged the sport feature and revved rapidly. the vehicle accelerated rapidly as if it were in overdrive. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it could not be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not found. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 70. ....updated 08/29/16 *bf updated 08/30/16.*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled after the electronic throttle control warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle restarted; however, the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body software needed to be updated. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was parked, it independently shifted to reverse. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 19,000. updated 04/29/16*lj updated 6/19/18*jb
While driving the 2015 jeep grand cherokee on cruise control, i needed to accelerate to avoid a traffic situation. i stepped on the accelerator and nothing. it did not engage to speed up even though i pushed the accelerator all the way to the floor. i removed my foot from the accelerator and stepped on it again, hoping it was a fluke, but still no acceleration. it did maintain the set cruise speed of 65 mph. it took approximately 15 to 20 seconds or more before the accelerator finally engaged. i had driven the vehicle earlier in the week for one 8 hour straight and two 3 hour straight trips with no issue. on this trip i had driven the vehicle for 5 hours prior to this event. stopped and rested for about an hour and then proceeded to complete my trip. about 3 hours into this last leg is when this happened. it hasn't happened before or since (yet). i have previously reported to the dealership that there are many times a brief, second or second and one half delay from when i step on the accelerator before the accelerator engages. this is sporadic and doesn't seem to be a consistent problem. the salesman and the general manager indicated they haven't heard of this problem from other owners. i understood this is an inherent problem with the toyota tundra and assumed it to be related to the electronic acceleration process as compared to the old cable acceleration linkage in years past. i had in fact updated the software related to the recent recall through the uconnect web site, at least a week before this event.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle auto accelerated without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 5,500.
Started the vehicle and noticed that parksense and forward collision warning were not working and every few minutes, the instrument panel, would beep and often display an error message. the messages it displayed were, "service shifter" (displayed most often), "park sense off" (it would automatically turn on and off) and "acc/fcw not working service required" (displayed a few times). also, the screen (instrument panel) would flicker a few times and beep.the forward collision warning sensor did not work, regular cruise control did not work, adaptive cruise control did not work and parking sensors did not work. i brought it to the dealership and it appears that the acc ball (radar/camera/the thing that looks like the eye ball on the front bumper) had corrosion and all wires were shot. they ordered a new piece with harness and will replace it. however, it is my concern that this is a major electrical issue. the water can easily get into the harness (rain/snow/car wash). it should be still under warranty but what is the solution after the warranty is over? it looks like it needs to be replaced every 16,000 miles (approx.)
I was pulling my travel trailer south on i65 south at 70 mph and just crossed the alabama state line and saw yellow flashing light and a sign to reduce speed to 60 mph. i was in cruise control set at 70 mph. i pressed the minus shift paddle to slow down but it didn't shift down low enough to slow me down. i then pushed the plus shift paddle to put me back into cruise control. the engine then over revved and shut down and i no longer had power to control forward motion. i coasted to the berm while tractor trailers zoomed by me. i had enough momentum to leave the highway ramp 143 and the come to a stop. the engine push start button still indicated run. i made a right turn as the engine was limping along. i then made another right turn on airport road and engine was still limping. not knowing what to do i limped on to a dirt road until i came to a grain silo with a parking area in which i stopped. i then pushed the start button which was still in run and the button indicated off. i then pushed the start button and the engine started as normal with normal power and i continued back on my trip to mobile alabama without incident. this problem is a potential safety problem and all owners of my model of jeep should be warned not to use the shift paddles when in cruise control. the owners manual has no warnings. i called the dealer and then jeep chrysler customer hotline 1-800-992-1997 and both told me it was caused by "customer error". i think this control system software should lockout the paddle shift capability when in cruise control or if the speed of vehicle could cause over revving of the engine by down shifting. maybe a mechanical max rpm switch on the engine would be better than computer software to limit engine revs. this perhaps would eliminate the potential for danger when the vehicle goes into limp mode as it did for me.
I own a 2015 jeep grand cherokee overland. i was informed of the nhtsa research into the 2014 jeep grand cherokee and the problems individuals were having with the collision warning system and the automatic breaking. i have experienced the same problem two times. there was no vehicle or obstacle close to me and the collision avoidance system initiated the autmoatic breaking system while driving down an interstate highway. it did not cause an accident, thankfully. after the second incident, i disabled the forward collision warning system due to my fear that it would happen again and cause an accident. i was alerted to your investigation into the 2014 model but wanted to bring it to your attention regarding my 2015 model. reference: the office of defects investigation (odi) has received nine complaints alleging inappropriate activations of the autonomous braking system in model year (my) 2014 jeep grand cherokee vehicles. all nine reports alleged unexpected braking incidents preceded by collision imminent brake warnings and resulting in sudden reduction in vehicle speed in traffic. two complaints reported autonomous braking incidents with no objects on the road resulting in rapid increase in brake force and anti-lock braking system (abs) activations. the complaints alleged experiencing multiple events at different locations and road conditions. a preliminary evaluation has been opened to assess the frequency, scope and consequences of the alleged defect. the following voq numbers are associated with the issues discussed in this resume: 10543837, 10713629, 10690650, 10663320, 10630362, 10596913, 10533622, 10533524, 10651269.
I was driving down the road, with my foot steady on the gas, and the transmission shifted hard (8 speed automatic) and lunged my car forward without any pressure on the gas pedal. then it continued to shift hard and lunge until i reached and maintained 40 mph ( in which my jeep put the transmission into 8th gear at a steady 1000 rpm). this has happened multiple times since, and sometimes when i remote start the jeep, it will give off a very loud high pitched whining sound for about a minute, then stops. *tr
Third time of incident. while parallel parking, and shifting from reverse into drive, while foot is still on the brake the vehicle revs and lurches forward. 1st 2 times involved parking on snow/ice. today, with a dry street and sneakers, vehicle began to rev. i attempted to shift into park to avoid lurching forward but failed to do so in time. when vehicle revs, i hold onto steering wheel and press brake with all my strength but unable to prevent the forward movement. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at various speeds after disengaging the accelerator and brake pedals, the vehicle accelerated without any control. the vehicle shifted into different gears independently without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 4,000.
