The vehicle went in for 4 recalls that i was never notified of, other than a flier from autonation saying i have 4 open recalls. i contacted and schedule this immediately upon receipt. they were looking at the brake booster recall and found the master cylinder to be shot. i've driven lots of cars for over a million miles and never had a master cylinder go before. this is alarming that at 45k miles this is shot. this part must be defective. in addition, this appears to be a common occurence with 193 such complaints on carcomplaints.com. i've talked to fiat chrysler and they are refusing to assist with this. i am certain they are correct in identifying the issue as i have noticed some break deterioration recently. just because there wasn't an accident installing faulty brake master cylinders on vehicles is a highly dangerous proposition.
Forward collision warning (fcw) occasionally comes on without reason in city traffic, interstates, and country roads (no traffic or obstructions nearby) and at various speeds causing a "brake" warning signal and sometimes, not always, actually causing the vehicle to brake. related to the fcw problem is a warning signal that frequently appears that indicates the adaptive cruise control/fcw are unavailable. vehicle has been in shop numerous times and except for one time that the dealership found a part missing, the dealership continues to indicate they cannot duplicate the problem. the problem remains on-going and has not been resolved. the date of occurance below is the most recent event with the "brake" warning.
We have had 4 incidents of unintended braking (pe15-021) from the collision control system. extreme autonomous braking when nothing was in the way. additionally, we had one case of unintended acceleration in low speed (less than 10 mph) stop & go commuter traffic resulting in a rear end crash with damage to our jeep and the vehicle in front of us and the next vehicle in front of them (3 vehicles total). jeep accelerated hard on its own without pressing the gas pedal.
Car braking system activated automatically on its own on multiple occasions, anti-collision warning system is not turned on. latest incident occurred on december 26, 2015, driving 45 mph on a highway with no traffic or obstacles around the word "brake" appeared on dashboard in red and brakes were suddenly engaged. incident before was driving 60 mph on the interstate and the brakes engaged again with the word "brake" flashing on dash again anti collision system was not on. *js
The collision avoidance system activates and slams on the brakes without cause while traveling forward which is startling and dangerous because i have been nearly rear ended by another driver for braking without cause. when parking the gear selector feels like it is in park it is actually in reverse or neutral. brakes squeak and were wearing groves into rotors when vehicle was brand new. also the front bumper has never fit correctly as well as the fender moldings peeling off. very sad for a $55,000 vehicle.
Last night, i was driving at normal speed down the road and person ahead of me braked gradually to make a turn. i began to softly brake. i had a generous amount of space between me and the car ahead of me - at least 5-6 car lengths. the forward collision warning system activated and slammed on the brakes, causing the car behind me to nearly rear-end me. the system should not have activated as there was no reasonable threat of collision. this is not the first time this has happened and i understand the nhtsa is investigating this system so i decided to file a complaint in order to assist the investigation. the system works well when it needs to but it has false positives often. it is somewhat terrifying when your car just decides to slam on the brakes with no cause and there is a legitimate cause for concern when it does. other drivers behind me may be unprepared to stop and could cause a crash.
When i apply the brakes the front end shakes pretty badly. i also have an issue when i excellerate moderately the vehicle seems to take off leaving me feeling out of control and having to take my foot off the gas and watching the rpm hit 6000. i have also had issues with the transmission and a total of 5 recalls. i have had time in court trying to fight it using the lemon law but lost because of not having an attorney and a transmission specialist i couldn't afford either. i notice my problems at 1900 miles but i lost because they said i used it for commercial use which i don't because i don't have it registered as a commercial vehicle i just drive a lot for work at the time. this vehicle has caused me loads of stress since i bought it and feel very unsafe driving my kids around. any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated i'm at my wits end. i bought my jeep early in 2013 so i feel its one of the first jeep off the assembly line with lots of issues. thanks
There has been incident the forward collision warning went off and the brake was applied. it happened both high speed and low speed. the recent incident was captured my onboard dash cam. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=plqwa_9v6mhpjrx6j4thjgtnma1vf99o-4
The vehicle braked unexpectedly, for no apparent reason. updated 10/9/15 *ln
The front rotors and the rear rotors turned black while operating the vehicle under normal highway driving conditions. the front and rear brakes pads are not worn where they required replacement. the rotors appear to be defective. i saved the rotors for inspection if you so desire to inspect them. having been a automotive technichian in the past and a mechanic on nyc taxi cabs i have never witnesses this kind of wear and tear on a rotor. having had fleets of police vehicles i have never seen a rotor wear like this either. even police vehicles having been in pursuits have not worn out like this.

On the highway the "forward collision warning with stop" system needlessly engaged. the vehicle brakes automatically were applied by the car on its won causing it to decelerate rapidly fishtailing uncontrollably. it was raining. this is not the first time the situation occurred.
My car is equipped with a forward collision warning that will signal you when you are too close to a vehicle and automatically engages the brake if a collision is imminent. the car has 3 times now signaled and engaged the brakes when there were no vehicles near me. the first two times this happened i was driving on the freeway going approximately 65 mph with no cars in my visible sight and the signal alarmed and then the car braked on it's own. this again happened yesterday 6/29/15 while i was turning left through an intersection with a green arrow and the vehicle braked while i was accelerating. a car behind me had to hit their brakes and swerve to avoid rear ending me. each time i bring the vehicle to the dealership they tell me that they can't fix a problem that they can't replicate.
My daughter was parking her 2014 jeep grand cherokee outside of a retail store. as she slowed and pulled into a parking space, the jeep suddenly surged forward, jumping the curb, crossing a sidewalk, going through a small grass median, and into a different area of the parking lot. the police report, oklahoma city police department report, case number 15-redacted, accurately records the surge. the officers conclusion was driver error. through research i have found numerous similar complaints concerning 2014 jeep grand cherokees. i called the service manager for the jeep dealership where we purchased the vehicle. i told him about the accident and that when the jeep came in for repair, i wanted the accident data preserved. he told me the only data that he could obtain was jeeps proprietary information, which i could not have. a representative form my insurance company is adamant that we, as the owners of the jeep, have a right to any information captured by the jeeps systems. however, the insurance company had no way to obtain that information when they appraised the damage to the jeep. i need help in obtaining the data by someone outside of jeep who can access it, or help to compel jeep to provide me with the information, hence this online submission. the website which contains other complaints about 2014 jeep grand cherokees is http://www.carcomplaints.com/jeep/grand_cherokee/2014/engine/vehicle_speed_control-2.shtml. 2014 jeep grand cherokee vehicle speed control problems | page 2 the website concern jeep grand cherokees or all years having trouble when the tires/brakes get wet is jumpin' jeeps are hard to tie down

Car has automatic brake warning which applies the brakes automatically. on at least 4 occasions the warning light came on brakes were applied and there was no other cars in sight. not only were there no cars in sight while driving on an expressway the brakes would come on. i to,d the dealership but the were unable to replicate.
After backing the car out of the garage i was going to get out to go back into the house.. i put the car (i thought) in park, my foot was still on the brake. i started to remove my foot from the brake and the car slightly started forward i realized the car wasn't in park but drive and when i went to depress the brakes further to change gears and stop the forward motion the car suddenly revved the engine, squealed its tires while pealing out and accelerating at a high rate of speed back into the garage smashing into a brick wall and my dining room. the damage to the car is over $15,000 and damage to the house is approx. $9000. i know my foot was on the brake!` my face hit the steering wheel cutting my lip. the airbag did not deploy. i have two years left on the lease and i am terrified to drive it. in all of my years of driving i have never had an accident and i have always parked in a garage without incident. i have driven everything from yukons to navigators and never have i had an issue like this. i see from all the posts that i am not alone. this issue needs to be addressed before people are killed. updated 10/17/2017*cn
Vehicle has, on three occasions slammed on brakes when a vehicle slows in the right hand lane adjacent to the lane of travel. brake warning appears with warning sounds.

Driving through the eisenhower tunnel the brake warning system activated. the brakes did not engage. i have had this jeep for over a year and have driven through this tunnel over 80 times and now whenever driving through the tunnel this brake warning will flash. this has occurred approximately 16 times now. this warning is now going off on the open interstate and secondary roads. the adaptive cruise control stops workings after 15-20 minutes. this has been into two different dealers, only to tell me the lens was dirty. within 20 minutes after leaving the dealer (who cleaned the sensor) the system stops working and says to clean the sensor. no snow or water was driven through prior to the message being displayed.

I was driving approximately 40 mph on w. maple rd in troy, mi in the middle of the afternoon on february 18, 2015. there was minimal traffic on the road and no one in front of me in my lane or the lane next to me. suddenly, my dash lit up to brake and the car started braking on it's own. it happened so quickly that i wasn't even sure what it was. it happened again about a mile down the road. again the system applied the brakes and the warning word brake flashed on my dashboard when there was nothing near me. it happened quickly and then the car went back to normal without me doing or changing anything in the car. i brought it to the suburban chrysler dodge jeep ram dealership in troy and they said they were not able to recreate. no codes were activated in the computer and there were no service bulletins about it so there was nothing they could do.. . i took the car home and the same thing happened again to me five days later driving at approximately the same speed. this time the dealership kept the car longer, drove it 119 miles, used the miller tool kit to align the camera and still found nothing wrong. the following week, it happened again and i returned to the dealership. this time they replaced the front sensor and bubble aligned. the only thing that the dealership found was that on one of the test drives they couldn't get the acc system to work at all and still no reports showed up on the computer. the next test drive all systems were working, again no report on the computer of the change. the dealership still could not duplicate the problem but they thought that they fixed it.. in may, it happened again. it occurred while i was merging onto the expressway traveling at 63mph. i returned the car to the same dealership and again it was returned to me without being able to diagnose or fix the problem. . .updated 07/21/15 *bf
I was driving and stopped at the stop sign and when i accelerated after making the stop and took a left turn on g street located on kirtland air force base my car accelerated and i lost control and when i applied the brakes nothing happened and my car proceeded to hit a parked vehicle and still the brakes did not stop the car and the only reason the car stopped was because i hit some reinforced steel cables holding something up. four other vehicles were damages as a result of my brakes failing. *tr
I purchased a new 2014 jeep grand cherokee srt last year and have had many issues, this has to do with the automatic braking system. i was in the far left turn lane of a two lane left turn stoplight. stoplight turns green for left turn lanes to proceed to highway entrance ramp, as i am turning left my car automatically slams into a full brake and stops in middle of turn lane. the car was out of my control as the brake peddle was fully pressed to the floor without me touching the brake. my vehicle does have the automatic brake system, which was activated this day. the car behind me slammed on their brakes since my vehicle came to a complete stop in the middle of making a left turn. we did not get rear ended thankfully. there was a car to the right of my vehicle also making a left turn, at no point did this vehicle come near my vehicle nor crossed lanes. my vehicle came to a complete stop for no reason and when i went to press on the gas pedal, it continued to stay in a full brake, it took about a minute to get my vehicle to start accelerating again. after this incident i turned off the automatic brake system. to be driving a vehicle and then out of nowhere the car takes control of itself is very scary and not safe.

While traveling perfectly fine for 2 hours on an expressway, our vehicle became completely uncontrollable as the road became slightly slippery and we decreased our speed to around 45 mph. the steering wheel began shaking, the vehicle felt like it was driving itself, shimmying left and right uncontrollably. we could not correct the vehicle from slightly fishtailing even after removing pressure from accelerator and reducing speed to 5-10 mph and driving on the shoulder where there was more traction. we were totally unable to control the vehicle. we switched the select-terrain knob to "snow" to see if that helped, but it continued to be virtually uncontrollable. we were afraid to completely stop the vehicle due to all other traffic flying past us going normal speeds. the vehicle miraculously made it to a gas station right off the highway and was towed to the nearest jeep dealer. the service department took it out for two different drives and could not replicate the problem. they hooked it up to their computer diagnostic system and could find no error codes. we also inquired if it was part of the p64 recall regarding the electronic control stability and were told no even though it seems similar to the problem that the recall addresses.this was the most terrifying experience we have ever had in a vehicle. if there had been any vehicles in our immediate vicinity at the onset of the issue, we would have been in a horrific accident. two other similar, but less intense scenarios had happened before this one, both including the same feeling of being out of control, once on a rainy road service, and the other on an intermittently slippery road. because this seems to be an intermittent problem and one that is a huge safety concern, we refuse to drive this vehicle on the road again. *tr

Traveling through new jersey on the highway for about one hour, stopped at small store for a few minutes, leaving the parking lot heading back towards the main road and attempt to yield to traffic, brake pedal depressed 100% and vehicle continues to roll towards the road. there was just enough room for the driver to turn the vehicle around and back into the parking lot. in the parking lot the vehicle was moving at about 10 mph and the brake pedal was depressed 100%, again the brakes are barley working and the car takes about 20-30 feet to stop. there was a recall for the 2014 grand cherokee but only for models manufactured from january 5, 2010, through september 8, 2013. our grand cherokee was manufactured in november of 2013 and is therefore not eligible for the recall. our jeep was towed to a local jeep dealership where they replaced the brake booster, they told us it had filled with water (exactly what the recall fixes). the recall must be expanded to all affected 2014 grand cherokees. *js

Attempted to have jeep/chrysler recall p14 (brake booster) and p36 (sunvisor wiring) completed. fair oaks chantilly jeep chrysler inspected the vehicle but stated there was a nation-wide shortage of parts and the brake recall could not be completed for 2-3 months. after talking to the chrysler customer assistance hotline, i was advised chrysler does not have sufficient parts in stock to handle all of the brake booster recalls. when asked for additional details i was told the reason behind the parts shortage was "confidential." i was further advised to "drive slow" and "avoid using the car as much as possible." they confirmed the wait time for replacement parts to "address this important safety issues" was 2-3 months. *tr

In may i received the recall notice for the brake booster (p14 nhtsa 14v-154) and have called my local dealer several times since then to schedule the replacement. however, the dealer says they do not have the part and are expecting the part to arrive any day. in september, i received the sun visor wiring recall notice (p36 nhtsa 14v-391) and have called the local jeep dealer regarding scheduling this replacement also. the dealer reports that they do not have the parts for this either and do not know when the parts will be available. this is an unreasonable amount of time to wait for the dealer to resolve the defects, and i feel my safety is at risk. *tr
My complaint is with chrysler, i contacted my dealer over a month ago regarding safety recall p14, i am on the bottom of page 2 of a list of customers who have contacted them to get this issue resolved. the dealer has no idea as to when they will receive the parts necessary. i contacted chrysler directly this morning and they cannot give me a time frame of when parts will be dispersed to the dealers either. this is unacceptable. i live in northern new york (along canadian border), sub-freezing temperatures are very common and potentially will be here very soon. chrysler is distributing to all dealerships equally, but maybe they should be taking care of the dealerships/customers that this problem could potentially affect (very northern, who experience sub-freezing weather). i feel that if this was a priority to chrysler, my vehicle would be fixed already. would they rather have people killed and be faced with millions of dollars of lawsuits, than get this fixed? i consider this a huge safety violation and chrysler should be forced to get these parts out to dealerships immediately. thank you for listening and i hope you can help get this resolved very soon. if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. thank you. *tr

I have a 2014 jeep grand cherokee srt. i was at a stop light in the turn left lane. once the light changed green i pressed accelerator and while turning all power cut out on the vehicle. while in traffic i coasted to the side of the road. the vehicle restarted after i can to a full stop power appeared to come back on and i pushed the start button with foot on brake. second event happened 9/10/14 again i was in the left hand turn lane (different street) and when light changed i pressed accelerator and while starting the turn all power instantly went out rendering the vehicle totally disabled in traffic. once i got it into a safe spot i called and tried to have it jump started. this did not work at all. total power failure no response and had to be towed to dealer. very dangerous situations. *tr
