I had driven approximately 520 miles enroute to my vacation home and was driving with the cruise control activated and seatbelts were in use by both myself and passenger. suddenly and at the same time the seatbelt and airbag warning lights came on and within a few seconds the cruise control disengaged and the message "acc/fcw unavailable service required" popped up on the dashboard. for the duration of my vacation the vehicle was operational however i had no cruise control. contacted two jeep dealers in the area and they were too booked up to service my vehicle. upon my return home i took it in to my jeep dealer. here is the exact quote from their service invoice as to what was discovered: "found many modules with loss of communications with the orc module (airbag module) with codes in them. found orc to have an internal fault, replaced and set up orc module". *tr
This is the second time where we have complete loss of power, steering, brakes etc affected and is a serious safety defect. both incidents reported to the nhtsa site and both incidents occurred after approximately 90 miles or 1.5 hours of travel. this is a serious safety defect and owners need to be notified and a recall remedy initiated. *tr
I really need your help. in april of 2014 i bought a brand new jeep grand cherokee summit edition for $60,000. i was thrilled to have finally owned my dream car since 1997! i started having issues with the car in august... and when i say issues, i don't mean the radio blitzing out. the car turned off in the middle of a 4 way intersection and wouldn't restart for 3-4 attempts!!!! terrified i took it to the dealership who said it registered some check engine light codes but they couldn't find why it did that. they turned the light off and had me pick the car up. after repeating the same thing, about 8-10 more times the car just shutting off and going back into the shop a second and third time they now said oh we figured out what the problem was and its fixed. i was thrilled for this to be over! a couple weeks later i was driving on the freeway going 65 mph with no cars around me or insight. all of the sudden the car dashboard said brake!!! and the car applied the abs brakes and abruptly slowed the car down to 40 mph!!!! i was so scared at that point, to top it off the car again shut off and the check engine light back on. i took the car to the dealership for the 4th time where they now have put me in a rental for 40 days. this time i was told my car registered 57 codes but they were not able to fix or diagnose the problem. i expressed my concern when i was asked to pick the car up. i don't feel safe in that car and i have lost faith in that vehicle. i asked that they buy the car back since it legally falls under the lemon law and they refused. they left me no choice but to hire a lemon law attorney. i now have lost faith in jeep/chrysler for the way they are handling this. they would rather put myself and others in harms way than to do the right thing. I was on the i-94 entrance/exit ramp between fullerton avenue and western avenue. just before western ave: the left lane is intended for vehicles entering i-94 northbound, the right lane is intended for vehicles that are proceeding to western ave. when the even occurred, there was a line of vehicles stopped in the left lane due to traffic congestion on i-94. i was traveling in the right lane and had no cars directly in front of me. as i began to pass the long line of vehicles that were waiting to enter on to i-94 on my left, the automatic braking system began to chime and braking began for no reason. i quickly reached down, disabled the abs function, glanced in my rear-view mirror and saw that i had come dangerously close to being rear-ended by another vehicle. after a few weeks, i re-enabled the feature thinking that the event was a fluke. i re-enabled it, but had a handful of instances where the brakes would be applied in seemingly inappropriate situations - mostly all of them in dense city driving. the vehicle now has 10k miles on it. i have yet to take it in for service on this or the multitude of factory recalls. possibly related, there have been numerous occasions where the parking sensor chimes have gone off while the vehicle was moving -or- in gear, but stopped at a stoplight. i often leave the feature disabled until i get ready to park. *tr

Our vehicle completely lost all power while traveling in heavy traffic in the left hand lane of a major four lane highway at ~75 miles per hour putting us in a very dangerous situation due to the difficulty maneuvering (loss of steering and brakes) the vehicle across three lanes to the right side emergency lane. several different tow trucks had to be called causing us to be left sitting for hours on a hazardous interstate. the vehicle was never able to be restarted until it had been at the dealership several hours. the consumer experienced an identical failure on august 16,2014 updated 09/10/14
I have been leasing a 2014 jeep grand cherokee for roughly ten months. throughout that time, i have been notified at least three times of active safety recall notices for my vehicle. my vehicle shows computer modules broken which as a result has disabled my air bags. in addition, my vehicle has a safety recall for a brake booster and now an inoperative vanity lamp which may cause a fire. my vehicle is entirely and completely unsafe to drive and chrysler jeep is not taking the appropriate immediate action to rectify this event. i am being forced to drive a vehicle with possibly deteriorated brakes, and disabled air bags. *tr

Have 2 recalls, p36/nhtsa 14v-391 and p67/nhtsa 14v-643, that have yet to be fixed. the p36 is from august 2014 and p67 from approx 1yr ago.the dealer, now apple chrysler/jeep hanover, pa, told me i am on a waiting list due to no parts to fix for p36 and have asked them several times for p67 to include during normal service. neither have been fixed to date. wrote chrysler some 6 months ago about the problem and they passed me to the dealer who said they would get back to me - still no response. emailed a complaint to chrysler corp again today. my wife only drives the vehicle when she must, for fear it may catch fire or the passive restraint system to fail with grandchildren aboard. these recalls, over a year old, shows chrysler has no regard for it's customers letting them drive unsafe vehicles for a long period of time.
2014 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to transmission issues. *smd the consumer stated twice, he encountered a serious problem. when he attempted to make a turn, the vehicle almost stalled. he tried pumping the accelerator, but the vehicle would only move at a crawl. the second incident occurred on july 31, 2014, the consumer was attempting to make a turn, when the vehicle almost stalled. the consumer was informed there were some wires that rubbed against something that caused the engine to stall. *jb
1) driving ~ 45 mph. 2) parking/crash detection sensor on the front driver side makes audible noise for 2 seconds, then noise ceases - this parking/crash detection issue was reported to the dealership 3 days prior. 3) all consoles go blank, to include speedometer (which is digital), temperature, navigation, etc. (driver & center consoles) - hands free phone call linked within the vehicle disconnects midway through call at this time as well. 4) engine appears operational, but seems to be in a lower gear and acceleration is problematic, brakes are sluggish. 5) electrical system in the vehicle reboots while driving ~10 seconds later, displaying multiple warning messages (check engine light, low battery voltage, no abs, suspension system, etc.). 6) pulled the car over at the first safe location ~1/4 mile. 7) vehicle would not go into park, applied emergency brake and turned vehicle off. 8) restarted vehicle, check engine and low battery voltage light remains on, but vehicle appears stable enough to drive ~2 miles home. *tr
Incident: while operating vehicle, visual display screen went black (no data). computer attempted reboot and displayed a vehicle phone requires service message. simultaneously, a service air bag and driver seatbelt unbuckled warning visual and audible displayed on the instrument panel and would not shut off. computer continued to attempt rebooting. history: the repeated rebooting of the computer has been occurring several times a month since it was purchased in june 2013. three dealer attempts to repair have failed to correct the rebooting. dealer has not replaced any hardware, reportedly only reloaded software. a search of the internet regarding these issues display page after page of related problems with this vehicle. *tr
14v-391 this recall has been open since july 1 2014, but every time i call the dealer to get it fixed they tell me there are no parts available.

Vehicle traveling at 5 mph, a/c on max, fan speed at highest setting. a loud "pop", followed by a rush of refrigerant through the vents. the vents had been pointed directly at my face and i immediately started choking. within 3 seconds, the entire interior had been flooded with this dense fog of refrigerant. i could not see, i could not breathe, i thought my jeep was trying to kill me. i managed to stop the vehicle, open the door and exit before i choked to death. i opened all of the doors and let the vehicle "air out" before getting back in to drive home. the vehicle is being serviced at the dealer right now. the failure is a leak in the evaporator coil. *tr

Recall p/14/nhtsa 14v-154 - brake booster, called immediately after receiving notification (06/05/2014). told parts not available, only receiving about 5 per week. placed on list. as of 09/11/2014, still on list as parts not available in sufficient quantities. *tr recall p36/nhtsa 14v-391 - sun visor wiring, same as other recall, parts not available. why are recalls issued if there are no parts available? jeep is putting owners at risk by not having parts available. *tr
During a vacation trip, we parked the vehicle in a remote mountain road turn-out area to take a scenic photo. returned to vehicle, started the vehicle; however, no matter how many times and what methods were used, the transmission would only pop-back into park. on safecar.gov, i noted previous 2014 jeep cherokee complaints concerned with the transmission popping only into neutral; but, for us it was popping only into park. the towing company did over $3,000 worth of front-end damage to vehicle in attempting to tow it while the transmission was frozen in park. on the same trip, the dashboard controls would go completely dark on an apparent infrequent random basis. we also noted cruise control acceleration problem with unexpected and or apparently random uncontrolled accelerations beyond driver's expectations or immediate control. both of these which frightened us. another strange thing we noted was when the transmission changed gear (primarily in lower gears), the vehicle jerked in a rough manner beyond what we have experienced in any other modern vehicles. *tr
Tire pressure monitoring system requires tire pressure adjustment about every two weeks because of low pressure in one or more wheels. dealer either cannot or does not want to fix it but hopes for a jeep advisory or recall. owner believes electronic connections in wheels are faulty and one or more leaks air. constant leakage of air represents a potential driving hazard. after 12 flash updates to electronic systems and past failure of electronic transmission control system to shift out of park, it is clear that all electronic control systems without redundancy represent life threatening potential failures in all sytems. when such failure occur, owners will be unable to prove what really happened. the perfect crime!
Driving down interstate when on vacation away from home, and message about exhaust filter full came on. message instructed to drive at highway speeds which i had already been doing for hours. suddenly a red lightening bolt symbol appears on dash with message stating to service throttle body. vehicle suddenly dropped into 3rd gear and decelerated suddenly with no warning. limited control of vehicle speed to under 20mph in traffic flow that was greater than 70mph. vehicle towed to dealership for repair. vehicle returned only to have same incident occur again around june 9th. this time it was taken to local dealership who insist the error message was due to the wrong oil installed while the vehicle was in the shop for this same problem a week earlier. dealership says it won't happen again. now on july 1, the same problem happened again. no warning. the electronic throttle control light came on, and the vehicle decelerated suddenly from 50mph to 5mph in heavy traffic. will schedule to have vehicle towed to dealership as it is not safe to drive. *tr
On a recent long trip (500 miles each way) a computer malfunction popped up while driving. the vehicle's phone called for service, followed by the airbag light and seat belt indicator went off. i pulled into a jeep dealer right before closing and the told me the issue was in the airbag control module somewhere but it couldn't be fixed easily and that the parts were on back-order. the car is drive-able but the airbag system is inoperative. i have since spoken to the dealer in my home-state and confirmed this is a common problem popping up on the 2014 model year grand cherokee and that even replacing the module was a guess at best as to what the problem was. so long story short i have a brand new vehicle with less than 10,000 miles with a malfunctioning/inoperative airbag system that the dealership says may or may not be fixable. *tr
I purchased my 2014 jeep grand cherokee limited 4x4 on june 2nd 2013. since i have had this vehicle i have experienced multiple problems which are a concern to my safety and other jeep drivers.. i have recently received the recall due to the brakes and was told by my jeep dealer and another jeep dealer that the parts are not available to fix this safety concern. i am forced to drive an unsafe vehicle at his time. this concerns me greatly. i have also been experiencing problems with the instrument panel which intermittently blacks out when driving. this prevents me from seeing the speed in which my vehicle travels and other indicator lights. this is also a concern to my safety and other drivers on the road. last week, i experienced my airbag light coming on and remaining on. i made an appointment with the dealer and they have now advised me they are having a problem diagnosing the issue. they have had to remove the seat and still struggle to diagnose the issue. they did advise me that my vehicle is a major safety concern and not safe for driving on the road. i was advised today that they diagnosed the airbag situation but will not have the parts until june 13th. i have driven my vehicle 21,000 miles in one year and believe this vehicle is a safety issue. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle with all these electrical issues i am experiencing. i would like answers from jeep as to why i amy experiencing these safety issues with such a new vehicle and why parts are not available for recalls. *tr
Traveling at highway speed numerous warning messages and warning chimes started to go off. created distractions to driving and it appears that air bag and seat belts stopped functioning intermittently. cruise control also failed. vehicle already serviced on all prior recalls two months ago. these issues are new starting on 5/23/2014. dealer appt is scheduled for 5/26/2014. in past, also reported issues with transmission shifting and hvac. not a well tested vehicle. far too many dangerous issues with vehicle. hope nhtsa can investigate issues. *tr

We purchased jeep on april 27th, we love it then few days later, the driver cv axle went off and spilled the grease over wheel... took it to dealership and waited for whole one week to replace the driver's... so, i asked them to replace both for once but they said no. so other one week later, passenger side went out... took 2 days. only 650 miles that time. so, at 950 miles, we saw some smoke coming out from interior trunk. it turned out that the bulb touches the interior trunk cover and it current got a hole with plastic burnt. all under 1k mile?!? so, we contacted chrysler care last friday and hear nothing from them.... *tr

While traveling home from a family vacation at about 40 mph my seat belt light started flashing saying that the driver and passenger air seat belt was not engaged along with the lights and dinging alarm saying that the air bag is in need of service, this has not gone off and the dinging is constant. i called and set up an appointment at the dealership and waited 4 hours for them to tell me that they did not have parts needed to repair the issue that it was on back order (at least 1 1/2 weeks) but would not be providing a rental car since the car was still drive able and that they would call when the part was in. i am very upset because i am in the automotive industry and know that this is a safety concern/ risk. i have also been experiencing issues with my transmission. i regret making this purchase. *tr
Purchased 2014 jeep grand cherokee overland on january 1, 2014. engine malfunction indicator light ("mil") engaged on multiple occasions in 1st 6 months of lease. codes are p035 knock sensor (3 times- 4/4/14, 4/11/14, 5/2/14) code p0520 oil sensor (5/19/14) and car has been at dealership since 8/26 for new unidentified issue also related to mil. car is also subject to most recent safety recall (vanity light/fire). car is unsuitable for driving with small children. concerned that multiple related issues are part of a larger safety issue. *tr
Electronic gear shiftier not reliable. there is no feeling or sense of proper gear engagement. i sit each day and rev up engine thinking i have engaged drive mode. you never know when you have properly engaged park feature. i have gotten one leg out of car while auto starts moving.this electronic feature is unsafe. otherwise this is the best new car i have ever owned. no accidents but i am extra careful with this gear shift. i will never buy another care with this innovation. the problem happens at startup and shutdown / exit mode. scary to exit auto and someone notify you later that the auto engine is still running and in neutral. mode. jerry

On 3/27/14, my brand new 2014 jeep grand cherokee spontaneously burst into flames and almost got in my face. after smelling and seeing smoke, i pulled over into a dirt parking lot at a business and the dashboard of my new vehicle burst into flames, after i heard a "woosh." a lady from the local business came running out of the business with a fire extinguisher and i was able to shoot it into the holes that were once the heat vents to kill the flames. the dash was buckled, the windshield blackened, the gauges melted, the roof lining gone, the visors melted, and the inside covered with co2 and smoke damage. i suffered smoke and co2 inhalation and my clothes were ruined, but i am lucky to be alive! the dealer refuses to help me....updated 09-10-2014 *bf updated 11/7/2014 *js

Our jeep grand cherokee has been has been having electrical problems. several different electrical problems occur after which the check engine light will illuminate. of these electrical problems the dangerous ones include: headlights shutting off, dashboard completely shutting, and vehicle shut off while in motion. we have had the following replace in our vehicle: burnt wires in our engine harness, faulty solenoid, alternator, pcm, and abs module. the issue still occurs. purchasing the vehicle in dec we've brought the vehicle back into the dealership for service 3-4 times. while we haven't filed for lemon law yet, jeep promised us that they would take a look at replacing our vehicle after a number of problem. their answer to us was to wait to see if the issue occurred again. while we may file for lemon law, we feel that it will be important that we report these issues as they are experienced by other consumers on forums across the internet. *tr
Since purchasing this vehicle in april of 2013 there have been six safety related recalls on the vehicle. the first two were quickly fixed. since then, and over the last year we had accumulated an additional four recalls. each comes with a warning from chrysler that this is an "important safety recall notice." the recalls are as follows; sun visor wiring occupant restraint control module brake booster alternator we have made at least four trips into auto nation chrysler dodge jeep in at 120 116th ave ne bellevue, wa 98004 to try and get these items fixed. each time we are told the parts are not available and they have no estimate as to when the parts may be available. they have been pretty dismissive and do not seem to give the impression that they understand this is their responsibility to correct. *tr
