Jeep t36 recall (nhtsa 17v-435) has been open since july 2017 but jeep/fca says parts are still not available. i understand this is a dangerous condition and want to know what other remedies/repairs are available since it has been so long.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 25-30 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. the vehicle was taken to normandin chrysler jeep dodge (located at 900 capitol expressway auto mall, san jose, ca 95136, tel: 408-266-9500) where it was diagnosed that the eco-mode feature, which was defaulted on, caused the vehicle not to be responsive. if the eco-mode was turned off, the vehicle operated as intended. the contact was informed of a software update to remedy the issue but, on this specific vehicle, the software was incompatible. the dealer provided case number: s-1508000166. the manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Had rapid failure of alternator very similar to what is mentioned in nhtsa 14v-634. based on the fact that mileage seems to be low for an alternator failure (44k) and same engine had similar issues, i question why my jeep isn't covered in the recall or if the recall should/needs to be expanded. we were parked with the engine running. when i shifted the car in reverse, the low voltage light came on, the alternator quit working and ended up destroying the drive belt. there was smoke coming from the alternator and i was concerned of possible fire.

I purchased my used 2014 jeep grand cherokee from jt's chrysler & jeep in lexington, sc on may 27th, 2017. sometime a few weeks later in june, we started having issues with our radio and touch screen panel. it did an automatic update by itself (screen said to keep vehicle running for 15 mins to complete) and now it will not save any presets that we try and save to it. the volume to the radio works fine some days, other days, we cannot get the volume to work on the radio at all...or worse, sometimes it will let us turn the volume up some and then we cannot get it to turn back down (causing issues when i need to hear things outside of the vehicle) until we power the ignition down. it has affected the navigation and speakers to some degree already and we have taken it back to the dealership twice to have it looked at with no resolution. they have told us they tried a "flash update" but it still has not helped. we constantly get an error message stating "vehicle phone needs service". i did some research after our last service appointment and realized there was a recall on the radio's for this model and year jeep for the same issues we are having but, i do not see our vin # listed in the recall. i am looking for someone to shed some light if possible on how we can go about getting this resolved. thank you!

There have been more recalls than i can count, but recently i was driving it and the alternator (which was recalled) when out in the middle of driving and i had immediately pull over and lost control of the car. i've had another recent recall not the shifter and my stereo randomly went black, allowing no control over the vehicle settings or a/c. this car is a lemon!

My vehicle's alternator suddenly started making a high pitch whistling noise, the radio and other electronics were not working in the vehicle, so i stopped. a white smoke started to pour out of the front grill and the smoke smelled like plastic/wires burning. i opened the hood and noticed the smoke was coming from the area where the alternator was. after the smoke stopped, i attempted to turn the vehicle on and nothing would work. i had the vehicle towed to the dealership. the dealership stated my battery was burnt up, the alternator was dead and they had to replace the usable link because that also burnt up. they also said they placed a battery in the vehicle to figure out what was wrong and their battery burnt up as well. they said they have never seen anything like it before. the vehicle only has 64,000 miles on it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was stationary, the air bag indicator illuminated. lee summit dodge chrysler jeep ram (1051 se oldham parkway, lee summit, missouri 64081) was made aware of the failure and replaced an unknown wire in the vehicle, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was diagnosed a second time as needing the wiring harness replaced under the driver's seat. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 36,300.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the abs, check engine, and battery indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to dallas dodge chrysler jeep ram (11550 lyndon b johnson fwy, dallas, tx 75238) where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and burned the wire that went to the battery, which also caused the battery to fail. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

Sudden failure of the alternator causing the vehicle to stall while driving. very dangerous and luckily i was not on a highway.

Alternator seized on the car after only 33,000 approx. the vehicle is just outside of the 36 month warranty. jeep will not fix and says it does not fall under recall p60/ nhtsa 14 -634 even though the issues described in the recall are exactly what happened to my vehicle. i called the jeep dealership and fca and neither are willing to work with me or do anything to resolve the problem. i'm told per my vin number that my vehicle does not have the faulty alternator yet it has the exact problems of the recalled one from the same year. issue description- i was driving from nashville tn to naperville il and approximately 3 hours from naperville i stopped for gas and a break and upon starting the car the battery light came on. i continued to drive to naperville il and upon exiting the highway the car started losing power. it sounded like a vacuum cleaner and not like a normal engine. i keep driving and pulled into a parking lot. as i pulled in i lost all electrical components, including the brakes. the car would not start. upon taking it to my mechanic, then to a jeep dealership it was determined the alternator seized and damaged the battery and belt. they refuse to correct it and i'm now paying $680 for repairs.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 56,000.

Shifter doesn't work. car wouldn't shift to park and the car engine wouldn't shut off

Alternator suddenly went out causing the car to become to stop running in an intersection. very dangerous.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 20 mph, the "battery voltage low" indicator illuminated. the vehicle was pulled into a parking lot and the driver noticed smoke from the hood. the driver opened the hood and noticed that the alternator was on fire. the driver extinguished the fire. a fire report was not filed and there were no injuries. the dealer and manufacturer stated that there was no recall. the failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

I bought the vehicle nearly 2 years ago and it has had this problem intermittently. at least once a week, the radio/phone/navigation panel will not start when the car does. so i have no heat or air conditioning, no back up camera, no radio, no handsfree phone. this situation usually lasts about 5 minutes but eventually will start. i have not been to the dealership to see about it so i don't know what it is. but this has the potential to be very dangerous for me. i am a realtor and i've put 70k miles on my car in the past year. i am in it all the time and i need these features to work. i bought this particular vehicle used and i love everything about it, except this. please do a recall on this feature. i'm not the only person that has had these problems.

Takata recall driving to work my car made a loud whistling noise and the battery light came out. i let it sit during work and after work i started it up. i then hopped in and while driving i noticed a burning smell coming into the truck and it was smoking from the hood at a stop light. i proceeded home and the smoke was now inside the car. my baby cousin was in the car and he began coughing, that's when i looked over and noticed it was very smoky in the car. i kept driving home (the street way) rolled the window down slightly for ventilation and noticed that my parking sense light came on. at the next light, my abn light came on along with the check engine light, and several other lights. that began to scare me and i knew it wasn't just my battery. the next time i took my foot off of the brake the smoke from the hood increased as well as in the car. the windshield wipers began going crazy, and i could tell that the car wasn't letting me use the gas anymore and the wheel began to lock up. this really made me nervous because it was extremely hard to turn it. at this point im panicking and causing traffic. pulling into a safe location, the wheel was completely locked at this point and even pushing the brake was hard. after coming to a complete stop the car wouldn't let me put it in park, then the vehicle just shut off. the smoking continued for a few minutes but i jumped out as soon as it came to a stop. luckily i took another route home or else i would have been on the highway when this happened. i then called aaa and waited outside to get the truck towed. it took them 25 minutes to come after a 5 minute phone call requesting their services. i got my belongings out of the truck and it still smelled like burnt smoke even after waiting with the window cracked. i don't have pictures, i have videos.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive away. the contact stated that the vehicle also stalled on another occasion. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 33,300.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 30 mph, the low beam headlights became inoperable without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 28,000. the vin was not available.

On feb 10th 2017 while driving to work the car lost its power in the middle of the highway, abs failed, power steering failed, and every indicator on the dash board lit up. when the car finally stopped, car shut down while it was in gear. after further inspection at the jeep dealership, it was determined that alternator was at fault and caused the car to stall and electronics to fail. costing $1,600 in repairs

The alternator started smoking after driving it 1/4 mile and then stopping. alternator was smoking while the vehicle was in motion. alternator continued to smoke after the vehicle stopped. the alternator turned a cloudy black because of the smoke and the car suddenly did not work. vehicle was towed (for free) to raf's auto repair in kapolei, hi and fixed. the mechanic said that the error code for the jeep stated that the alternator suddenly failed for unknown reasons. most likely a faulty alternator. the grand total to fix this issue was $863. i called chrysler to see if my vehicle had a faulty alternator recall. it did not. so i could not get it fixed by chrysler. i gather from the 10 recalls on my vehicles year make and model group, that this alternator was a factory default and i should not be paying for it. this issue should be taken into consideration by chrysler company and i believe that chrysler should pay for this repair bill.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. without warning, the contact noticed smoke rising from under the hood. the vehicle was taken to a dealer (phillips chrysler jeep dodge ram, 3440 s pine ave, ocala, fl 34471, (352) 732-7577) where it was diagnosed that the alternator assembly needed to be replaced. the alternator was replaced and the dealer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system) due to the amp being 180 and not 160. it was unknown if the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no solution other than having the dealer replace the part. the failure mileage was not available. ...updated 10/23/17 *bf *js

My girlfriend was traveling 60 miles per hour down interstate 167 outside of puyallup, washington on monday, december 5, 2016. winter had finally arrived with a light snow and icy roads. while driving down the freeway the dashboard illuminated and the speedometer stopped responding. we have a very important person in my life, a mom, and a step-mom, that is traveling at the rated speed limit in potentially icy conditions and we have lost all systems to include air suspension, airbag system, anti-lock braking system (abs) , electronic braking system (ebs), traction control.

Multiple problems with the forward collision warning (fcw) and adaptive cruise control (acc) systems 1) system will issue false brake warnings (and apply brakes if enabled) on clear straight roads with no other cars or obstructions. 2) system will disable itself at random intervals disable itself for a period of time (10-20 minutes). only notification is brief "fcw/acc system disabled" notification in gauge cluster - no audio warning that important safety system disabled itself. 3) when using acc, when vehicle resumes set speed after autonomous braking, vehicle will accelerate into back of next vehicle ahead - have to manually intervene and apply brakes to prevent collision. note that this vehicle uses a bosch lrr3 radar sensor system for the fcw and acc features. vehicle has been into jeep dealers for service for this issue five times, and even after opening star case with jeep/chrysler fca, still no fix for this serious safety issue.

After starting vehicle, driver smelled smoke, but did not know the source of smoke. (driver thought it might be something burning in the neighborhood.) by the time driver had driven 2.2 miles on city roads (at speed <40 mph), smoke began billowing from the usb port on the front dash. driver pulled over on the shoulder of a city street. the front dash around usb port was now glowing orange. driver turned off vehicle, tossed a cup of water onto front dash in area of usb port, exited vehicle and called 911. police and fire personnel responded. first responders said water extinguished fire. vehicle owner called local jeep dealer, who said in the case of fire to call jeep customer service at 1-800-992-1997. local jeep dealer suggested the owner also call owner's insurance company. jeep customer service assigned a case # and said owner would be contacted in 2-3 business days. owner had vehicle towed to local jeep dealer. jeep fca sent a 3rd party investigator to inspect the vehicle. 21 days after fire incident, jeep fca issued a letter to owner stating, "in the absence of any substantiating evidence indicating that the cause of the fire was attributed to a condition existing in the vehicle when it left our manufacturing plant, we find it necessary to deny responsibility in this matter."

The shifter problems have been well documented but i read about the proposed solution and from my experience that will only fix part of the problem. unless the driver is paying close attention the vehicle may not be in park. but it is also very easy to shift from park to neutral. the near miss i had was leaving a parking lot that had an incline to a very bust street. i thought i was idling to the ease of the street but i was actually in neutral. when i let off the brake to pull onto the street the car rolled into oncoming traffic but obviously did not excellerate when i hit the throttle. scrambling to get the car in gear it took a few prescious seconds to realize you have to push on the brake in order for the transmission to shift. too much to think about in those circumstances. the shifter is going to get others killed unless a complete new system is installed. this car has many great safety features but in many cases there just isn't enough time to react. i'm a 40 year experienced licensed driver with class a cdl. a driver should not have to concentrate on the shifter. it should be a natural motion. this is a ticking time bomb that must be repaired or it will cause more accidents and deaths. please keep in mind that an alarm that tells the driver the car is or is not in park will only fix part of the problem. i routinely find myself in the wrong gear. jeep is trying to find a cheap way out that is just not going to work.

This has to do with the electronic shifter that has been in the news lately. i have read that, finally, chrysler is addressing this problem. the solution they have come up with, to put the car in park if the driver's door is opened, does not suffice to fix this issue. here is why: i have had the situation, where i pull my car into my garage which is on a slight incline. my kids jump out of the car, and walk around the back to get into the house. as is often the case, i have a few things to gather up, so i am not as quick to exit the car as they are. kids are behind the car and i take my foot off the brake and the car starts rolling backward while the kids are behind it. it is only by extreme luck that i did not kill both my children. i would like to add, that even though i am painfully aware of the situation with the shifter, and i am extremely diligent, you can become distracted and forget. for the record, i have sent messages to chrysler (specifically, when they sent their customer satisfaction survey after i first received the car) that mentions this as a problem. i have brought it to the dealer's attention. no response. this is a big problem. the second i read about that young man getting killed in la i said to my son that i would guarantee he was driving a jeep. i have been saying someone was going to get killed for nearly two years, and now someone has. and, i would be willing to bet there are others who just didn't realize why or what happened to them. please require them to make a better fix and to call each and every jeep owner and verbally describe this issue. there are people who don't read their mail, who do not speak english etc. their fix is not going to alleviate this problem. thank you. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic) and 17v435000 (electrical system). the contact received the interim recall notice several months ago. the dealer (anchorage chrysler dodge jeep ram center, 2601 e 5th ave, anchorage, ak 99501, (907) 276-1331) was unable to verify when the remedy and parts would be supplied from the manufacturer. they estimated mid april of 2018. the interim recall notice did not give a specific date for when the remedy and repair part would become available. the manufacturer was contacted. the contact was not experiencing a failure. parts distribution disconnect. vin tool confirms parts not available. *tt

My emergency brake light is flashing on my dash board, and it is making a chiming noise when flashing as i drive my jeep. the main issue other than having it going on and off some time a few time a day sometimes not for a week than a few days in a row is that when i am on an open highway with cruise control on doing 70 mph the cruise control will shut off every time it flashes. i fell the this is a safety issue when your cruise controls shuts down without any warning. the dealer has not corrected this issue. i just got a recall notice to day s27/nhtsa 16v-240 to make sure my vehicle is in park and foot brake on. my foot brakes says it is on at 70 mph when it is not on. this happened a lot today on my trip, but has been going on for over a year

I have a recurring problem with my 2017 jeep grand cherokee that has been going on for a period of 17 months. my problem started in may, 2016 when my navigation system failed by giving me the wrong information by instructing me to turn into a one way (wrong way) traffic lane. this has since happened many times since then by directing me incorrectly. the complete navigation system, clock & compass, periodically don't work. on occasion i receive the following message on my vehicle's computer screen "vehicle phone requires service please contact your dealer." after numerous appointments with the dealer & telling them that the problem is not with my phone they finally said they could not repair the problem and gave me an 800 number to call the manufacturer customer service. after numerous discussions with various customer service people over a period of two months, on 9/28/2017 customer service person patricia said there is nothing they can do to repair the vehicle however that a "jeep service bulletin #08-028-17 with updates to software level 17.11.07 will occur in a phased roll-out and maybe the problem will go away." they told me i would receive download instructions but could not tell me when these instructions would be sent out. the system will work periodically but fails more often than not. yesterday i was again using the navigation in an area that i unfamiliar with and the system again tried to route me into oncoming traffic.

This morning5/16/16 i turned my grand cherokee on,proceeded to drive to work, i felt that the car was not changing gears, it hesitates and the engine light came on an off, after driving about 4 miles the car stopped and went into neutral without me changing gears. this is not the first problem i have since i purchased this vehicle. it has been at the dealer more than one time for the same problem, which include: self-accelaration while driving, stalling in high way, and few other recalls from the company. it has been a night mare since i purchased this 2014 grand cherokee, one problem after the other! more than dissapointed with this car.

Dashboard on the car keeps turning on and off by itself draining battery power. car was taken to dealership for repairs. they looked at it replace the battery for $900 did not fix the issue. the car continues to experience the same problem issue was never resolved.

The horn and rear wiper began to go off automatically along with the console screens flashing resulting in the vehicle turning off at a stop light. after getting it started back up, while on the freeway (70 mph), the horn began honking on its own again and i was afraid the vehicle would turn off on the freeway resulting in a potentially disastrous situation so i exited the freeway and carefully proceeded to the jeep dealership where after a few days they diagnosed it with a faulty total integrated power module (tipm). it was apparently not covered due to the fact that i had approximately 38k miles, instead of 36k of below. how can an electrical system fail due to "normal wear & tear"? i feel this should have been covered under warranty instead of becoming an out of pocket expense for me. i'm nervous about driving my vehicle even after the tipm was replaced; it doesn't feel the same.
