Auto mechanic says that the 5th cyllinder in this jeep grand cherokee hemi engine is prone to fail. probably manufacturer defect. the fifth cylinder misfire caused cylinder to deteriorate and leak metal into engine causing failure. the car stalled while driving on a busy road in jacksonville florida..

Every morning when i start my vehicle to go to work. i need to crank it over and over again until at some point it starts. i went for service for recalls in my vehicle in september 2019. i was told the part was not available for the fuel pump relay recall, r09. even though the appointment was set with the parts in stock. i never received a call back and now i am experiencing this inconvenience everyday. (recall related incident) ts
I pulled out of my driveway, turned the corner and my jeep completely shut down as i was driving. the message that came up told me to service my 4 wheel drive and every light on my dash lit up like a christmas tree. it would not start or do anything. had to have it towed back to my house and am now having to tow it to a dealer.
Tried to start my jeep it wouldn't start. i used the push button. i waited a few hrs and tried again. same issue. tried my remote start. started up. next day used the push start, started up no problem, on the highway (95) the truck was hesitating when going up an incline. next day push start won't work, the engine would turn over as usual but wouldn't start. remote start and it started up. son took it and put it on the diagnosis machine and said there weren't any codes. researching a hard starting problem i've read tons of posts very similar to what i have experienced. i called the dealer to make an appointment. asked could it possibly be the same issue that my truck was re called on already. he said might be r09 fuel relay recall, timp problem, (recall was a temporary solution to install a fuel pump harness bypass so that the fuel pump turns off) but that if it is, the dealer said they already replaced that and will not do again unless it is pd for, after they put the jeep on their diagnosis machine at $175.00 per hr. so after they completed the 9th recall i pick up my jeep with hopes that i could do more research. i also called jeep. the lady was very nice but they will do nothing except add my complaint to their system. i found out that many people had the same problem as i do! jeep/chrysler have put faulty timp in these cars and do not want to put a recall out on them. many cars with my model have had the same complaints. the faulty timp has the fuel pump running constantly which drains the battery it runs when the car is off. now if i 'try' to start the vehicle it smells like something is burning. after researching this problem i found the issue to be a timp problem and now am aware that i am not alone. there are hundreds if not more jeep owners that are having the same issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact veered to the shoulder of the road. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it resumed normal operation. the contact then drove to northgate chrysler dodge jeep ram (8536 colerain ave, cincinnati, oh 45251, (661) 395-3005) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the contact was referred to nhtsa to file a complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The damages directly caused by the alternator recall directly related to my 2013 jeep grand cherokee are being declined to be covered by dealership in a vacaville california. they are wanting to charge me $1000 for damages to my vehicle that were caused by alternator issue.
Check engine light would come on intermittently the last 5 months. took to the dealership and auto zone for a code reader a few times and they were unable to pinpoint the exact problem because the engine light would disappear or multiple codes would appear. the vehicle would at times seem to lose power especially going up hill whether it was on a city street or highway. i finally was able to get a true diagnostic test done on 6/15/19 when the engine light was still showing on my dashboard. they code reader gave p0128 so i ended up having to get my thermostat gauge replaced and total repairs with diagnostic were $309.15. i found it frustrating and unsafe that for 5 months the engine light would intermittently appear. after a trip out of town and drove a total of close to 1200 miles, the light stayed on. at this point, it is when i decided to take it in to the dealership before the engine light disappeared. i also noticed that the seatbelt warning light would not always alert if a passenger did not have theirs on. i tried to go back and select the seatbelt problem selection, but it would not allow me to.
I have been since 2017 (september) with a situation of a recall t36, the situation was resolved temporarily (see annexes included). i was then assigned to a consultant mr. lucas figueroa, work my case and clearly indicated through emails (i have all the evidence) that the alternator (by then 2017) was not available anywhere, triangle dealer del oeste was installed a piece that was not the recall while the piece was available. i must clarify that this situation occurred on september 8, 2017 and i was delivered my bus on november 9, 2017. you can refer to case #11039953 assigned by nhtsa. i am demanding to have the t36 recall part installed. it clearly indicates in the communications that it is a temporary remedy. and even more, i was told that when the part was available or manufactured them (an fca officer) would call me to let me know that i could pass to install the same. i never got the call. i need this case handled with the seriousness it deserves. recall dealer t59 (which has already been done) i explain about the recall pending the t36 (alternator) and i am notified that the alternator is already installed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the engine made a ticking sound when the vehicle was started and while driving. the contact took the vehicle to several different independent mechanics and they all stated that the engine was going to fail if it was not repaired. in order to diagnose the failure, the engine would have to be taken apart at a high cost. benson chrysler dodge jeep ram (400 w wade hampton blvd, greer, sc 29650, (864) 877-0161) was contacted and stated that they could not assist. the dealer offered a trade in with the contact having a negative equity balance on the vehicle. the manufacturer filed a complaint from the contact and referred her to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 93,000.
The car is driving normal and suddently , the car sterling weel get hard, the brakes get hard without ant signs , the car shorts down in the middle of the hightway . this situation got ne keating manu tines for my life.
The vehicle stalls and loses power while driving without warning (or warning lights) happened multiple times. restarts after 15-20 minutes.
Engine light came on. p0520 default code re oil pressure sensor/switch. in researching this issue, it appears that despite numerous complaints by others for exact same issue, no recall by jeep. my mechanic also noted this is a very common issue for jeep. jeep customers are having to pay out of pocket for this very expensive repair. jeep needs to issue a recall and reimburse for this repair.
A fuel pump relay failure can result in a stall condition if the vehicle is running or a no-start condition if not running. i use currently my car for works matter. i was very kind and i am very afraid to use the car and this prevented me from being late in my personal affairs ann i am emotionally affected because up to the mopars does not have solution.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 20 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. also, while turning into a parking lot, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. the contact noticed light smoke coming from the engine compartment. the vehicle was towed to cabrera auto (carr #2km 82.2 salida expreso hatillo, pr 2, 006,14, pr, (787) 333-8410), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v435000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
I was driving my jeep grand cherokee on the street, turning the corner at an intersection, the engine lost all power, turned off, and i lost control of the power steering and vehicle in general. i almost hit a pedestrian that was walking on the sidewalk. this was a city street, the vehicle was in motion, and i was turning left. i have called the jeep dealership repeatedly telling them about this symptom of my vehicle. i also have a problem with the vehicle not starting when try to turn it on, the engine will turn over repeatedly but not fire up. after several attempts, it sometimes will start. it is an intermittent issue. other times i need to call a tow truck. i feel this is directly related to recall r09, even though this recall was performed on my vehicle, these are the same symptoms described, so i think the problem is back even after the recall. it is a safety issue and needs to be addressed by chrysler/jeep. i have contacted the dealership at river oaks jeep/chrysler on 4807 kirby drive in houston tx, 77098, and paid for a diagnostic. they initially were not able to identify the problem. after a couple days they said the fuel pump was not holding pressure and would cost $2000 to replace. i can not afford that right now, and i declined repairs. i called the headquarters for chrysler/jeep dealership and asked for them to pay for the repairs as this is a safety issue and a malfunctioning part related to a recall, and they refused. this is documented under case #34923344. i feel chrysler jeep should either replace my fuel pump relay again, even after it was already done once under recall r09, or they should pay to replace the entire fuel pump, as they are not able to diagnose the source of the problem with 100% certainty. this is a safety issue related to the engineering of their vehicles.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle occasionally failed to start and all the indicators on the instrument panel illuminated. the contact also mentioned that the engine made revving noises, but the vehicle would not engage. the vehicle was taken to salerno duane chrysler dodge jeep ram of summit (267 broad st, summit, nj 07901, (908) 277-6700) where the battery was changed, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 47,600.
The vehicle continues to die within seconds when the start engine button is initially pushed. frequently have to to push engine start button again w/o pressing brake to turn power completely off, then push engine start button again w/brake to obtain full power of vehicle. this problem has been reported to jeep on several occasions and has occurred for a couple of years. i have completed all recalls on file hoping this problem would be addressed. however, it appears to be worsening this summer, where almost daily i have to attempt to restart my car to gain full power.
2013 jeep grand cherokee hemi engine suffered from a faulty tappet roller on the mds lifter. part failed at 89000 miles causing engine issue and the need for replacement. this appears to be a common problem with this engine going back to 2011. jeep did nothing to rectify this problem.
Intermittently, vehicle will take a long time to start using the push-to-start button. sometimes the engine will stall seconds after the long start happens, after enough time to go into drive/reverse from being stationary. this has been dangerous as the vehicle is moving (pulling into traffic from parking spot, city street) when the engine stalls. at that time the only way to restart is to re-cycle the push-to-start button through the off/accessory/on. typically after the stall the vehicle will start right up. vehicle has had the tipm recall (#15v-115) performed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. while leaving the driveway, the vehicle hesitated as the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove approximately half a mile from her residence before the vehicle stalled again. the contact had the vehicle towed to a tow lot and called john elway's claremont chrysler dodge jeep ram at (909) 667-2586 (620 auto center dr., claremont, ca 91711). the contact was informed that an appointment could not be scheduled for at least another month for diagnostic testing and repairs. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system) as a possible cause of the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
While driving my car in the city, i experienced a sudden engine shutdown, and entirely lost control over the car (steering, breaks etc.) the car was towed to chrysler's certified garage, where the malfunction was identified as a failure of the fuel pump relay (the same relay which was already been replaced, as part of recall r09). the garage also re-confirmed that this relay has been replaced under the recall, in 2015. the meaning of this failure demonstrates that practically, replacing the unit under recall r09 has not solved the problem and the risk is still there! i have reported this incident to fca in europe, and was responded that this failure "could happen in 5 years old car" and therefore, there is no safety issue that requires them to warn other owners. however, i have found on-line lots of similar complaints, most of them in the us, indicating that the failure of the replaced fuel relay is common, and that fca do not take responsibility. see the link below: http://www.carproblemzoo.com/jeep/grandcherokee/other-fuel-system-pump-problems.php i would like to emphasize that r09 (nhtsa safety issued id #15v115 https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaid=15v115#recalls360) refers to 5 years old cars, and the failure that i have experience with the same replaced fuel relay, had occurred only 3 years later, and therefore, fca response is irrational and wrong. since the event i avoid driving this car with my family nor do i let my children drive it. i simply don't trust the car anymore. please be advised that i live in israel and have an office in florida. i had to enter my fl address as there is no possibility for an international address. my international phone number is: +972544888755

2013 jeep grand cherokee with a 3.6 litre pentastar v6 engine and 56,500 miles did not produce heat from the vents and overheated.the vehicle was towed to seaview jeep in ocean new jersey.the first two times the vehicle was towed to the dealers service department it was returned to me and the service rep stated that the overheating issue could not be replicated. after researching the issue myself and the engine overheating a third time i asked the service manager if the engine could be having an issue with exhaust gases entering the cooling system and causing the engine to overheat and if this was checked in the previous troubleshooting of the vehicle. the manager replied that a block test was not done and to return the vehicle so the test could be performed. the vehicle was kept at the dealership after the second time it was towed there from 12/22/17 - 1/16/18 and returned to me after they claimed that they flushed and filled the cooling system and ran the vehicle for several days without it overheating or losing heat. the manager did admit that there was a water swooshing sound coming from behind the dash that was unusual and claimed there was air pockets that they removed when they bled the air from the system. after the vehicle was returned to me on 1/16/18 it was driven on 1/17/18 by my wife and the no heat/overheating issue returned again. the vehicle was towed to the dealership for the third time and the block test was performed.the service manager reported to me that the engine had a cracked left cylinder head and quoted me a $2600 repair cost. i called chrysler jeep customer care at 877-426-5337 to file a complaint and a reduced rate for repairs was negotiated down to $500 with a case #33267278. i don't beleive i should be liable due to the manufactures defective cylinder head. the cracked cylinder head has been reported on numerous 3.6 pentastar engines.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 60 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was pulled over to a shoulder lane and the engine was able to restart after five minutes. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (lithia bryan chrysler jeep dodge, 301 n. earl rudder fwy, bryan, tx 77802) where it was diagnosed that the computer failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. the failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
When driving the vehicle every single thing turned on. windsheild wipers, every light on the dash board light up like a christmas tree, engine started to rev up, the dash board was going up and down with the speed. everything was going and it was strange.
Constant p06dd code. code will show up daily after being cleared. has been occurring on a regular basis for 2 months plus. dealership has no help in fixing the issue.
The tipm failed on the vehicle while driving down the road bringing the vehicle to a sudden stop. all functions in the car were halted. this resulted in stranding my teenage daughter in the middle of a busy road in a very dangerous situation. after being towed to the dealership they informed me that it would cost me $1349.36 to replace the faulty tipm. numerous research into this problem reveals many similar problems with the tipm from jeep which could likely to result in serious safety related problems not to mention very costly repairs. this problem should be addressed further.
As the vehicle is parked, it does not matter for 5 minutes or 5 hours, when the start button is depressed the engine turns over, but does not start. when attempted a second time, it will turn over continusly for 20 seconds, and fail to start. the problem my persist for many attemps, or may rectify its self and start.
Multiple episodes of extended crank without start. also several episodes of stalling without warning while driving - 1x in drive but another time on highway at night in traffic. all episodes have happened in 2017 staring august through 'now'. car has been to dealer service 4 x without resolution. currently with dealer being operated with a "flight recorder" as they did experience problem but couldn't identify the mechanical source - they contacted "chrysler" for advice. i'm lucky, i'm driving a loaner for 3 weeks now from my dealership.
My car is currently at 76k miles. since around 20k miles, my car has had issues with starting that happens intermittently, slow/no response from push button start, slow/no response with smart entry system when locking/unlocking doors. all of these issues are very intermittent. to go into more detail about the starting issue, the car would start completely, but then shortly after the rpm would drop to 0 and the electrical components would stay on. when trying to push the start button again, it would try to crank for 15 seconds. it's necessary to completely power off the car to properly start the car. sometimes the issue presents itself immediately after. these issues happen with both key fobs even after switching to fresh batteries. i've taken it to jeep dealership 4-5 times with no resolution. they have replaced the fuel pump relay twice for attempt to resolve starting issue. they were never able to duplicate or no codes would present themselves. i have strong suspicion of the tipm (totally integrated power module) failing, which is approximately $1200 to replace. even though i have the extended warranty, jeep will not replace until duplicated. i even left the car at jeep for a week one of those visits. the issues happen almost every other day or on a very bad week, every day the car is used. jeep customer service is very poor and i've been stuck with this issue for way too long. the starting issue even happened today, twice.

Nhtsa recall #17v-435. alternator needs checked to make sure no failed diodes. i received a recall notice 6 months ago or so and i keep getting told there are no parts available. how is this possible considering per the recall, it could cause a fire?
Check light continuously comes on even after being cleared and the jeep technician told me that it faulty sensor. the oil pressure sensor which is a $30-40 but would cost over $550 to repair it. the technician even said this a problem that happens all the time. this is very concerning to me and my family because we have had already 5 serious recalls plus a software update. this vehicle isn't safe and consumers are forking the bill to pay for these poorly built jeep vehicles. i also see more recalls are coming in the future and how is the nhtsa protecting us consumers from these car companies who make and build poor vehicles. this vehicle randomly vibrates violently and sometimes doesn't shift properly into gear.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the vehicle started to smoke from the underneath the hood and the inside of the vehicle was quickly filled with smoke. the contact stated that there was no warning. the vehicle lost all power and shut down completely and was left at the intersection. the contact stated that the smoke subsided and the vehicle was towed by a tow truck to the contact's residence. the vehicle was later towed to a dealer where the vehicle failed to be inspected. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and told the dealer not to touch the vehicle until a jeep specialist investigated the failure. the contact stated that the vehicle was left at the dealer's but no one contacted him. the failure mileage was 80,000. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the temperature gauge lever on the instrument panel was high for the water pump. the warning light kept randomly illuminating. the dealer was notified of the failure, scheduled an appointment, and later stated that the part was on back order. there were 1,700 parts that were not received so the contact was placed on a waiting list. the contact was unable to determine when the part would be supplied to the dealer for months and when the vehicle would be repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was not available.
I am afraid to drive my vehicle. the first issue happened a few months ago, the car refused to start and had to be towed to the dealership to get fixed. there was an electrical fault, and could have happened at any point. currently the vehicle has been at the dealership since november 10th. the vehicle hesitates before moving forward when i step on the gas, then something engages and it jumps forward. sometimes it comes to a stop before it rapidly accelerates. the jeep has been at atlantic jeep for almost four weeks and the dealer has not been forthcoming in explaining what is going on. they can't seem to figure it out themselves and i am in fear of driving this car in the future if the same problems occur. there seems to be a big risk of having a crash with the issues described above. this happened on highways, streets, slow or fast didn't seem to have an affect. this has been a major issue, and is very scary for me as a driver.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that upon starting the engine, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle failed to restart. the contact mentioned that the failure had recurred several times. the vehicle was not taken in for diagnostic testing nor was it repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at an unknown speed, the steering wheel seized without warning. the contact pulled over and discovered that the power steering belt was fractured. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the power steering belt was replaced. on another occasion, while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. after being serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 15v115000 (electrical system), the vehicle failed to start intermittently and the check engine warning light illuminated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
The first incident happened at the end of april. while driving, after crossing a busy street, i suddenly lost power and engine response. after having it towed to the nearest repair shop, i had to have the fuel pump and sender replaced. this is when i was made aware there is a fuel kit relay recall. now, barely 4 weeks later, this exact same thing has happened again. with apparently no remedy to the recall yet, i am now left paying for the same exact repairs i just had done less than 150 miles ago. this time it happened after crossing into another state, about 45 minutes from home. the time, cost and hassle of all this has been completely unacceptable. luckily, i was able to get out of the way of major traffic...luckily!
Check engine light came on and was followed by loss of power while accellerating from stop light. *tr
Driving to work in stop and go traffic. vehicle started to sound extremely loud and acceleration was sluggish. traffic opened up and from 20 mph increasing to 51 mph noticed (and heard) the rpm was at 6. continued to drive and the rpm neared 7 (the red zone) as i continued to accelerate. put on the hazards, pulled to the shoulder and turned the vehicle off. sat for about 2 minutes and restarted. everything returned to normal and made it to work without further incident. it seems that the vehicle was stuck in first or second gear. *tr
After driving to work 29 miles while waiting for day shift to get out so i can get a parking spot while in park with the engine running for around 15 minutes i then put it in drive with my foot pressed very hard on the brake pedal the engine revs up to a very high rpms and my jeep moves forward even though i have all my pressure on the brake and i am a male at 210 pounds. this has happened over a dozen times since i have owned this vehicle. i bought this vehicle brand new and the dealer i bought it from says they can not find anything wrong. it is going back to the dealer monday 2/23/2015 again for this problem and to replace a shock. the last time they said all they could find was that the trany fluid was low not sure what that has to do with my problem. anyway i really love my jeep however this is a very dangers problem. i work at chrysler second shift and when day shift lets out there are over 100 workers leaving and if my foot was not pressed firmly on the brake i could have hit one of them. i have the 5.7 hemmi engine and personally i think it is a computer issue however i am not a mechanic so like i say that's just my personal thinking. the vehicle mileage i gave you is a close guess i am not able to get the exact mileage at the time i am sending this to you. should be give or take around 100 miles. i can go a month or what ever with no problem then bam it happens. my phone number is [xxx ]feel free to call me if you have any questions. thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I have a 2013 jeep grand cherokee, i have taken my car to the dealership twice now for the engine stalling as i climb a hill and for it kicking into gear when sitting still with my foot still on the brake. the car jerks extremely hard to the point where you think you have been hit by another car. it also does this when switching between the first 3 gears. the first time i took it in, the dealership told me they had to adjust the computer on the engine. this did not work as i am still experiencing the same issue. i also have noticed a decrease in my mileage per gallon. i was getting 14 and am now getting 9 miles per gallon. my outlet buttons are all sticking on my dashboard and are hard to the touch to turn on. when trying to turn on one button, all buttons light up. ie..parking assistance, skid control, etc. my headlights also would not turn on when driving. the only lights that worked were the high beams. this has happened to me three times while driving. the dealership states that they can not replicate the issue. *tr
In general, the car would not start when brake was pressed and the start button was pushed. this happened six times. first four times the engine would just turn over but not start. last two times, the engine started for about two to three seconds then died. attempting to start it again resulted in the engine turning over but not starting. during all of the six attempts the engine only started and stayed running after three or four attempts. when i've taken the vehicle to the dealer i was told that there may be a bad win module, which was supposedly replaced. when asked about the tipm i was told that they have to begin diagnosis starting with other parts. *tr
In april my car started randomly not starting. it's happened 4 times and been in the shop once for this issue. it is going again monday 6/16 for the same issue. it will randomly not start, it randomly tries to stall on me. it will randomly not respond to pushing the power button. it will randomly make a high pitched squealing noise. it is very scary when it tries to stall because i can be riding down the interstate at 65 mph when it happens or sitting still at a red light. i drive over 120 miles per day and i cannot be stranded or stall out in the middle of the road. it's going to the shop again monday to address the issue for the second time. makes the 5th time the car has been in the shop for various issues since i've had it less than 15 months. *js
The water pump and radiator have gone bad, also the driving lights and the fog lights keep burning out. there seems to be a mechanical problem. this has cost me approx. $2000.00 in repair cost. i have noticed on the road other vehicles like mine that have there lights burned out. also my repair shop informed me that he sees quit a few cracked radiators. *tr
