Problems with 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 56 422 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I had the original recall done for the fuel pump relay, after just over 2 years it stopped working and when it doesn't work the car can't start. they told me that i had the recall done and it was more than 2 years, i was no longer covered. i have replaced it twice already since then. i just received a letter from jeep and they have put a second recall on this part. however they don't have the part which is about $10 and the car will not start without it. i called the dealership and main company and was told if i have a problem starting or stall while driving i am to have it towed to the nearest dealership and they will look at it and evaluate the problem and if the relay is the problem they will repair it with an over the counter part and will call me when the dealership part comes in. i asked how long it would take to evaluate my car if it was towed in to be fixed. no one could give me an answer. only saying once they look at it and figure out the problem then i would be notified. here is a quote from the letter they sent me ' a vehicle engine stall while driving can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning '. so my question is, is this car safe to drive as is, and if not what are my choices. they have no answer for this. i am informing you of this problem, they didn't offer a rental car when i said what do i do with this situation. a $10 part and they don't have any, i keep 2 replacements in the glove box in case my car doesn't start but i didn't know the car can just stall while driving. that is very dangerous for everyone that owns one of these vehicles and the cars around them. it's a disgrace and i think they knew about this problem and didn't prepare to have the parts ready for this problem. i just hope no one dies (recall related incident) ts

Vehicle would not start on 06 dec 2019; was attempting to start but kept making sputtering and scratching noises. ac power works. towed to dealership and decoded as a fuel pump relay (as stated in recall we just received!!) dealership refused to fix per recall.

I was driving on the capital beltway 495 in maryland when all the lights in my car came on and then turned off. after that my car completely stopped accelerating, my check engine light came on as well as the abs light and a lightning bolt light where my speed is displayed started flashing. i was able to get to the shoulder of the road after almost getting rear ended. when i tried to turn my car back on all of the lights kept flashing and the engine wouldn't turn over. after about 30 minutes all the lights went out and my car was finally able to start. off and on my car keeps telling my to check my gas cap even though i've replaced it and it's always on there tightly.

Tried to start my jeep it wouldn't start. i used the push button. i waited a few hrs and tried again. same issue. tried my remote start. started up. next day used the push start, started up no problem, on the highway (95) the truck was hesitating when going up an incline. next day push start won't work, the engine would turn over as usual but wouldn't start. remote start and it started up. son took it and put it on the diagnosis machine and said there weren't any codes. researching a hard starting problem i've read tons of posts very similar to what i have experienced. i called the dealer to make an appointment. asked could it possibly be the same issue that my truck was re called on already. he said might be r09 fuel relay recall, timp problem, (recall was a temporary solution to install a fuel pump harness bypass so that the fuel pump turns off) but that if it is, the dealer said they already replaced that and will not do again unless it is pd for, after they put the jeep on their diagnosis machine at $175.00 per hr. so after they completed the 9th recall i pick up my jeep with hopes that i could do more research. i also called jeep. the lady was very nice but they will do nothing except add my complaint to their system. i found out that many people had the same problem as i do! jeep/chrysler have put faulty timp in these cars and do not want to put a recall out on them. many cars with my model have had the same complaints. the faulty timp has the fuel pump running constantly which drains the battery it runs when the car is off. now if i 'try' to start the vehicle it smells like something is burning. after researching this problem i found the issue to be a timp problem and now am aware that i am not alone. there are hundreds if not more jeep owners that are having the same issue.

Faulty fuel pump relay and tipm. car will crank but not start. if the car starts it will stall.

About a month ago from this date, i remote started the vehicle before leaving my home, opened the house door and it wasnt running. i entered the vehicle and tried to start it with the key fob. nothing happened other than the vehicle turning over without starting. been this way since. it will start after many, many attempts by turning the key and eventually starting. there is no fuel pump noise when the key is cycled numerous time from acc to on position.

I had a recall on the fuel pump relay, i had it fixed on february 24,2015, today i had to replace it again, my car stalled 2x while driving,it also wouldn't start several times, would crank but not start. i called mopar and went to jeep dealership and both refused to replace for free. i keep a spare with me now in case i have the same problem again. i don't want to be stuck in no mans land late at night. i have aaa also. i just hope this isn't going to be a constant problem the consumer stated the there was recall on the vehicle, but the part was unavailable. the consumer stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time completing the recall.*js

Car shut down/would only crank would not start. no fuel to engine. car shut down at street light. tapped on relays in relay box under hood the vehicle started.

The vehicle stalls and loses power while driving without warning (or warning lights) happened multiple times. restarts after 15-20 minutes.

A fuel pump relay failure can result in a stall condition if the vehicle is running or a no-start condition if not running. i use currently my car for works matter. i was very kind and i am very afraid to use the car and this prevented me from being late in my personal affairs ann i am emotionally affected because up to the mopars does not have solution.

Fuel pump relay recall completed over a year ago and fuel pump still quit on me 30nov2018 while driving over a bridge. car will not currently start due to fuel system.

Fuel pump relay: our jeep grand cherokee has been hard to start for some time. it just turns over as normal but doesn't start. the fuel pump relay has supposedly been fixed but it is acting as before the relay repair. since the relay recall has been 'fixed', i put in a new fuel pump. it did not fix the problem. jeep needs to step up and fix these!

While driving, fuel pump quit working. after stopping, car would not start.

Having issues with previous recall r09. the problem has resurface again. just took the vehicle for repairs. are others having similar issues with this repair

Cranks and dosen't start

I was driving my jeep grand cherokee on the street, turning the corner at an intersection, the engine lost all power, turned off, and i lost control of the power steering and vehicle in general. i almost hit a pedestrian that was walking on the sidewalk. this was a city street, the vehicle was in motion, and i was turning left. i have called the jeep dealership repeatedly telling them about this symptom of my vehicle. i also have a problem with the vehicle not starting when try to turn it on, the engine will turn over repeatedly but not fire up. after several attempts, it sometimes will start. it is an intermittent issue. other times i need to call a tow truck. i feel this is directly related to recall r09, even though this recall was performed on my vehicle, these are the same symptoms described, so i think the problem is back even after the recall. it is a safety issue and needs to be addressed by chrysler/jeep. i have contacted the dealership at river oaks jeep/chrysler on 4807 kirby drive in houston tx, 77098, and paid for a diagnostic. they initially were not able to identify the problem. after a couple days they said the fuel pump was not holding pressure and would cost $2000 to replace. i can not afford that right now, and i declined repairs. i called the headquarters for chrysler/jeep dealership and asked for them to pay for the repairs as this is a safety issue and a malfunctioning part related to a recall, and they refused. this is documented under case #34923344. i feel chrysler jeep should either replace my fuel pump relay again, even after it was already done once under recall r09, or they should pay to replace the entire fuel pump, as they are not able to diagnose the source of the problem with 100% certainty. this is a safety issue related to the engineering of their vehicles.

Engine stalls without warning while driving. no warning lights or check engine lights are present. car refuses to start immediately after, but after repeated tries it starts again. fuel pump relay of the tipm was replaced 30k miles ago by safety recall but problem has resurfaced.

Please reference my previous complaint 11114071 and 11114079 for exact dates of failure for july 2018. the primary and secondary fuel pumps were both replaced and the jeep was returned to me on 8/4/18. i drove it on 8/5/18 once and then twice in the morning on 8/6/18. it sat in the parking lot at my work from 8:30 to 12:30 pm on 08/6/18. at 12:30 pm, the exact same symptoms of starting failure were happening. it started with turnover then immediately died. then turned on after a 2nd attempt. then at the restaurant i went to at approximately 12: 55 pm, the jeep completely failed to start. i have video recording of the failure and can produce that for reference. the vehicle is not starting and staying on consistently. the start results in immediately dying and then after a couple attempts like that, it eventually it just cranks and cranks until you shut off the vehicle. it's being towed a second time to the dealer service department. additionally, a dome light in the front of the vehicle wouldn't shut off since it was returned to me on 8/4/18. it was never a problem before 8/4/18. this is a tipm problem and it needs to be recalled. the 3rd picture i've uploaded is a screen shot from the video i have of the vehicle not starting but cranking and cranking. the other two are captioned. i have this video and can send it.

Motor cranks and cranks without starting,,,heard there were recall on fuel pump relay.why not 2013. this may be the fault

During the week of july 1st, 2018 the vehicle died while driving at 30 mph. during the week of july 8th it cranked without turnover multiple times in the am, eventually starting and also during that week of july 8th, 2018, once while driving it died while traveling at 30 mph. on july 16th, 2018 vehicle cranked without turnover multiple times in the am, eventually starting. on july 17th, 2018 it started in the am but in the evening, cranked multiple times with no turnover and would not start again. on july 18th, i went back to where the car was left the evening before to attempt starting again. it was cranking without starting multiple times that day and never started. had to be towed to dealership for service on july 19th. service department replaced the primary fuel pump on july 23rd, 2018 after parts came in. i picked up the vehicle on the evening of july 23rd, 2018. approximately 6 hours after getting the vehicle, it cranked for at least 10 seconds, twice, then started. and the following evening approximately 5 pm, july 24th, 2018, it started and ran for about 5-10 seconds and died. vehicle started on the next attempt and i took it back to the dealership service department at 5:30 pm on july 24, 2018. the dealer claims it cranked on july 25, 2018 in the morning and then continued to start throughout the day. i am going to go back to the dealership to request the other fuel pump get tested. i am very aware that there have been multiple recalls on this model's fuel pump system. recalls 14v-530 and 15v-115 do not include my vin number and should because it was manufactured during the dates of . and further, the center for auto safety's petition against the nhtsa dated on july 15, 2015 (80 fr 45578) (document number 2015-18672) against chrysler for the tipm failure should be reconsidered!!

Per my previous complaint (number 11114071) i stated my vin was not included in chrysler recall 15v-115. that was incorrect. my vin was included in chrysler recall 15v-115. and the recall was completed. meaning: the fuel pump was already replaced. so my previous complaint with fuel pump failure and cranking is a persistent and unacceptable issue that is deductively reasoned to be due to tipm failure. this failure needs to be addressed by the nhtsa.

The vehicle continues to die within seconds when the start engine button is initially pushed. frequently have to to push engine start button again w/o pressing brake to turn power completely off, then push engine start button again w/brake to obtain full power of vehicle. this problem has been reported to jeep on several occasions and has occurred for a couple of years. i have completed all recalls on file hoping this problem would be addressed. however, it appears to be worsening this summer, where almost daily i have to attempt to restart my car to gain full power.

The gas pump is a damage to factory default. please call me to explain the situaciton. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *pm

When you push the ignition button, the engine cranks but it won't start. it takes a few attempts before the vehicle actually starts. after it starts you start to drive it and the it stalls as you are driving it. this happens mostly when the engine is cold (mornings or after it hasn't been used for several hours). after researching it there is a fuel pump relay recall on same model and year as mine. the recall is for the fuel pump relay.. this is very dangerous when driving the hehe vehicle as it stalls at any given moment.

Fuel pump relay recall. the fuel pump relay recall was performed on this vehicle by dealership. recently, the vehicle begin having the same symptoms as in the recall. vehicle would stop running after being cranked, would fail to crank, and would have extended cranking time. i observed no fuel pump sounds during no run/ no crank conditions. ase certified shop diagnosed fault; repair was replacement of fuel pump relay installed during recall. vehicle has had zero failure since this repair. this failure is as dangerous as original recall failure, and occurred within approximately 60,000 miles of recall. shop manager stated this was second such failure his shop has fixed on already "fixed by recall" vehicles.

Stalling and failing to start (starter keeps cranking but never turns over)leaving me stranded

Multiple episodes of extended crank without start. also several episodes of stalling without warning while driving - 1x in drive but another time on highway at night in traffic. all episodes have happened in 2017 staring august through 'now'. car has been to dealer service 4 x without resolution. currently with dealer being operated with a "flight recorder" as they did experience problem but couldn't identify the mechanical source - they contacted "chrysler" for advice. i'm lucky, i'm driving a loaner for 3 weeks now from my dealership.

Will not start. keep pressing and trying and finally will start after a couple of tries. does attempt to turn over but will not start. dealership cannot find anything wrong. car was always in park and stationary. seems to happen after trying to restart after short periods of time.

Bought my car from parks ford of wesley chapel on 7/16/17. 2 days later, the car had trouble starting.my mechanic looked it over. it had a power steering rack leak and embedded dirt underneath its carrier. brought car back to ford. they found nothing. called again because of same problem. was told by manager duber to try locking and unlocking car to engage starter. did not work. brought to jeep. they found that a recall on the relay to the fuel pump was never fixed. they also said the front shocks were blown and leaking and not covered under warranty. warranty company said that car had preexisting conditions and should have never left the dealership. they refused to fix it. this great price was false representation and misleading. i never would have bought the car knowing it needed all of this work.

My car is currently at 76k miles. since around 20k miles, my car has had issues with starting that happens intermittently, slow/no response from push button start, slow/no response with smart entry system when locking/unlocking doors. all of these issues are very intermittent. to go into more detail about the starting issue, the car would start completely, but then shortly after the rpm would drop to 0 and the electrical components would stay on. when trying to push the start button again, it would try to crank for 15 seconds. it's necessary to completely power off the car to properly start the car. sometimes the issue presents itself immediately after. these issues happen with both key fobs even after switching to fresh batteries. i've taken it to jeep dealership 4-5 times with no resolution. they have replaced the fuel pump relay twice for attempt to resolve starting issue. they were never able to duplicate or no codes would present themselves. i have strong suspicion of the tipm (totally integrated power module) failing, which is approximately $1200 to replace. even though i have the extended warranty, jeep will not replace until duplicated. i even left the car at jeep for a week one of those visits. the issues happen almost every other day or on a very bad week, every day the car is used. jeep customer service is very poor and i've been stuck with this issue for way too long. the starting issue even happened today, twice.

Dash indicator lights and wipers come on randomly while driving. vehicle won't start on multiple occasions after shutting off. tachometer and analog temp gauge are approx. 90 degrees off.

Vehicle either does not start or starts and turns off right away or randomly shuts down

I am afraid to drive my vehicle. the first issue happened a few months ago, the car refused to start and had to be towed to the dealership to get fixed. there was an electrical fault, and could have happened at any point. currently the vehicle has been at the dealership since november 10th. the vehicle hesitates before moving forward when i step on the gas, then something engages and it jumps forward. sometimes it comes to a stop before it rapidly accelerates. the jeep has been at atlantic jeep for almost four weeks and the dealer has not been forthcoming in explaining what is going on. they can't seem to figure it out themselves and i am in fear of driving this car in the future if the same problems occur. there seems to be a big risk of having a crash with the issues described above. this happened on highways, streets, slow or fast didn't seem to have an affect. this has been a major issue, and is very scary for me as a driver.

Dealer requires that i leave the vehicle at the dealer's repair shop for an entire day and that i pay them a rental fee for a loaner car during that period. i will not pay to have these manufacturer defects corrected. there are currently four (4) outstanding recall notices on this vehicle and they will not fix any of them without compensation.

After six months of no notice of the availability of the part to repair the recall on the fuel pump relay, i scheduled service appointment for 8/15. the dealer still did not have the part. i received a phone call from heather, business development manager. she claimed i never received notification for any of the 3 recalls because the parts are not available, even though they were. she said someone in the service center is supposed to screen the appointments and contact owner if part is not available and acknowledged that the dealership had failed to do this. i scheduled another appointment to repair recall and get brakes evaluated. i dropped my car off 10 am on 9/4. at 1:45, i had not heard from the dealership and called and left voicemail asking about my car. at 4 pm, still no word from the dealership, i called again and left another message. at 5 pm, still no word, i tried web chat on dealer site and rep didnt have any information. the dealer service dept closed at 6, so i went to get my car. the service rep didnt know where my car was. on his desk was a post-it with my name and phone number on it. he returned after 10-15 minutes and told me the mechanics found something wrong with my brakes (started after 8/15 service) and wanted more time with it. i asked if my car was in a state i could take it home, i had been to the dealer enough times already to get repair. when he returned, he handed me the key and made no additional comments. i asked if the recall had been repaired and he said, "no." second trip to dealer for the fuel pump relay recall, they had my car for over eight hours and didn't repair the recall or anything else. i emailed heather to share my experience at the dealership. to date i have received no response from dealer and the email site for jeep doesnt work. i will have to find another dealer to fix the fuel relay recall and brake issue.

I have a chrysler recall #r09 (fuel pump relay replacement). after speaking with a fca recall representative, i an told that these parts are still not available, yet my vehicle is a danger to drive! i did research, and my local dealer can get a tipm module which includes the fuel pump relay, in just 2 days. i can have my vehicle repaired in just a week. yet i'm still waiting on parts that fca has "approved" for the repair. fca has still not offered to give me a safe rental vehicle. they just told me to drive my vehicle until it stalls/wont start, or until "approved" parts arrive. after speaking with the recall representative, i was told parts "may" be available by the end of august. i feel fca is doing anything that they can to save money rather than fix my car. i want my car fixed. if "approved" parts are not available by the end of august, i will be filing another complaint with both fca, and nhtsa.

This is my second recall for this problem dealer never has parts to repair also i have a recall for p60 that was never repaired

The first incident happened at the end of april. while driving, after crossing a busy street, i suddenly lost power and engine response. after having it towed to the nearest repair shop, i had to have the fuel pump and sender replaced. this is when i was made aware there is a fuel kit relay recall. now, barely 4 weeks later, this exact same thing has happened again. with apparently no remedy to the recall yet, i am now left paying for the same exact repairs i just had done less than 150 miles ago. this time it happened after crossing into another state, about 45 minutes from home. the time, cost and hassle of all this has been completely unacceptable. luckily, i was able to get out of the way of major traffic...luckily!

I have received a recall for my jeep: the totally integrated power module (tipm) contains an internal fuel pump relay that could operate intermittently or fail without warning. an intermittent or failed fuel pump relay could cause the engine to stall while driving and cause a crash without warning. three months later, jeep says the parts are still not available, therefore, my car is still dangerous to drive. recall status: incomplete but repair parts are not available. furthermore, jeep wants to hack into my wiring to replace a relay. that relay is originally part of the totally integrated power module. they are trying to take a "cheap" rather than "proper" approach to repairing my vehicle. i want the module replaced in whole, as this is where the relay in question was engineered to reside. furthermore, i have called my local jeep dealer to verify the availability of the totally integrated power module. i was told that they could order it and have it on their shelf in 2 working days! i want jeep to repair this safety defect immediately, and properly, as the vehicle was designed and engineered to operate.

Check engine light came on and was followed by loss of power while accellerating from stop light. *tr

After driving to work 29 miles while waiting for day shift to get out so i can get a parking spot while in park with the engine running for around 15 minutes i then put it in drive with my foot pressed very hard on the brake pedal the engine revs up to a very high rpms and my jeep moves forward even though i have all my pressure on the brake and i am a male at 210 pounds. this has happened over a dozen times since i have owned this vehicle. i bought this vehicle brand new and the dealer i bought it from says they can not find anything wrong. it is going back to the dealer monday 2/23/2015 again for this problem and to replace a shock. the last time they said all they could find was that the trany fluid was low not sure what that has to do with my problem. anyway i really love my jeep however this is a very dangers problem. i work at chrysler second shift and when day shift lets out there are over 100 workers leaving and if my foot was not pressed firmly on the brake i could have hit one of them. i have the 5.7 hemmi engine and personally i think it is a computer issue however i am not a mechanic so like i say that's just my personal thinking. the vehicle mileage i gave you is a close guess i am not able to get the exact mileage at the time i am sending this to you. should be give or take around 100 miles. i can go a month or what ever with no problem then bam it happens. my phone number is [xxx ]feel free to call me if you have any questions. thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I received a safety recall for my jeep grand cherokee limited sometime early january 2015 (r09), and was told that that the parts were not available for repair at that time. to date i have yet to receive any word from jeep as to when this repair will be started or completed. why is it taking so long for a safety issue to be resolved?

In general, the car would not start when brake was pressed and the start button was pushed. this happened six times. first four times the engine would just turn over but not start. last two times, the engine started for about two to three seconds then died. attempting to start it again resulted in the engine turning over but not starting. during all of the six attempts the engine only started and stayed running after three or four attempts. when i've taken the vehicle to the dealer i was told that there may be a bad win module, which was supposedly replaced. when asked about the tipm i was told that they have to begin diagnosis starting with other parts. *tr

I was driving home from a ski weekend in upstate ny in january and traveling on the interstate at approximately 65mph, the temperature outside was below freezing and i went to apply the brakes to slow down for upcoming traffic and the pedal was hard and the brakes did not engage, i pumped the pedal and remained calm and hoped that the power would come back to the pedal and luckily it did after a 3 pumps to the pedal and took about 5 seconds. we avoided a near fatal collision if it wasn't for my quick thinking and remaining calm. i brought the car into westbury jeep who told me nothing was wrong with the brakes and returned the car to me, i then continued to have the problem reoccur on cold days when the temperature was below freezing. the dealership did nothing and now a recall was issued for the exact issue i described and the dealership still refuses to repair it because they don't have the part. i want the repair done asap! *tr
