I received a safety recall last spring for p14/nhtsa 14v-154-brake booster. i made an appointment to have the brakes inspected may 5, 2014. at that time the dealer did not have the parts (water shield) to place over the brake booster. i just spoke with the dealer service department today (9/9/14) and they still do not have the part nor do they have any idea when they will have the preventative part. if this issue is of no concern then why was a safety recall issued? if it is of concern (and i might add we are headed into the coldest and rainiest time of year here) then why are there no parts available to preempt a known safety hazard? having had other vehicles that had safety recalls and dealing with different manufacturers, i never had to wait over 5 months for a safety recall replacement part. i believe that the chrysler corporation has dropped the ball and the potential expense of my families safety. for this i am placing a formal complaint! *tr

I have been calling my dealership regarding a brake booster recall for 3 months, i have called 6 times and all im told is your on the waiting list. it should be 3 weeks, then i'm told the same thing when i call back in 3 weeks. called today & got the run around again. apparently chrysler isn't to concerned about peoples safety. i also had a 2001 jeep grand cherokee with brake issues, you think they would have corrected the problem. this will be the last chrysler/jeep vechicle i will own . *tr

Chrysler has issued a recall for my vehicle due to the brake booster prematurely corroding. i received a letter in the mail several months ago and contacted my dealership. despite several contacts since, they maintain that they have never received any parts needed to complete the recall. a call to the chrysler group recall assistance center went unanswered on 02/02/2015. *tr

I have been waiting for my local jeep dealer to fix a safety recall notice related to a brake booster on my 2012 jeep grand cherokee. i've been waiting since may. this is unacceptable! i have a 7-months-pregnant wife, and how am i supposed to feel she is safe and secure in a car which could potentially have a brake issue? now, fast forward to september and i've received another recall notice, this one pertaining to sun visor wiring. how long should we be required to wait for these to be fixed? i've had recalls on my 2010 mercury mariner and 2005 mazda tribute recently, and both were handled immediately. so i would very specifically like to lodge a complaint against chrysler and its parent, fiat. local dealers need to be supplied with replacement parts far more quickly. (and, for the record, i've owned five jeeps. i'm loyal to the brand, which is all the more reason why this is upsetting.) the dealer isn't helpful at all - all they tell us is that we're in a queue and waiting on parts. it's enough waiting. this is a safety issue that must be alleviated immediately. *tr

I am sitting on 3 recalls on my vehicle list above, brake shield, visor wiring, and now alternator problem. i am not very happy with 3 recalls that they don't have part for, and the dealership can not tell me if and when parts will be in, i am to the point i don't want this vehicle anymore because of these issues. i don't wanna wait till there is a injury or fatality. i want this resolved or vehicle replaced. i am guessing the air bags will be next knowing there is a recall on them on other vehicles. *tr

There has been a recall from chrysler regarding the brake booster freezing during cold weather. the recall is p-14/nhtsa 14v-154 . we have been on a waiting list since may 2014 and the dealership has been unable to receive the parts to make the repairs. i have been in contact with chrysler and they have been no help as to making a timely repair. i ask that you look into this issue as to why so many people are on waiting list awaiting parts. *tr

I experienced a 90% failure of the brakes on my 2012 grand cherokee this am. the vehicle which is normally not left outdoors at nigh was left outside last night and the temperature fell to -5 deg f. when i dove away this am and applied the brakes i had +/- 10% of the normal braking power and when i applied the brakes harder i could feel the antilock brake system kick in but still not braking. once the vehicle sat in the sun and warmed the breaks functioned fine. my understanding from the jeep forum is that this is a design issue with this year and model, according to my dealer there is no recall to fix it. *tr

While my wife was driving the car with my 18month old son in the vehicle the brake stopped working. she was able to coast her way to the nearest dealership where it was determined that the power brakebooster went. this cost us $500 to fix because both the manufacturer and dealership said its not covered on extended warranty as its "ware and tear". in my opinion if the breaks of a 2012 car fail to work this is not ware and tear but a very serious and dangerous defect with the car. i am very concerned that this could happen again with a much worse outcome. *tr

My 2012 jeep grand cherokee laredo had a brake problem and the service dept at nielsen jeep in east hanover, nj, diagnosed it a brake booster failure. this is not a problem that should occur in a well-maintained 2 year old vehicle. the service manager (who was very nice and courteous) explained that the car is unsafe to drive (the brakes could fail) but that the part is not available anywhere. it is on national backorder and there is no anticipated delivery date. the dealer denied my request for a loaner car so i filed case # 24644312 with chrysler to appeal for a loaner/rental car. chrysler escalated my request to the "highest level" but then also denied the loaner/rental car. i need my car to get to work. while i can ask someone drive me to work for a few days, it is unreasonable to do so for an undetermined period of time. i have no choice but to pick up my car and continue to drive it until the part comes in. i hope the brakes do not fail in the meantime. the service manager told me there were also 3 other jeep grand cherokees in the shop awaiting the brake booster part. i am filing this complaint because this is an unsafe circumstance and as i have learned, this is not isolated to only my vehicle. my hope is that chrysler jeep will provide an alternative transportation option to owners, such as a loaner car or rental reimbursement, while they are awaiting the part. also, i hope for chrysler jeep to accelerate the manufacturing of this part. i think a recall is probably in order for the jeep grand cherokee. Brake booster failure. dealer states "low assist". jeep has no stopping power at all, pedal is hard and vehicle just keeps rolling. parts are nationally backordered. from what i'm reading online this is a large scale problem. moisture is getting in the booster and freezing, causing brakes to fail. i have a case number open with jeep. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated while attempting to engage the brakes, they failed to stop the vehicle in time causing him to driver through the stop sign. the vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and refused to provide him any assistance since the vehicle was not included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v104000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 18,000 and the current mileage was 20,000.

2012 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to brake booster recall notice. *smd according to the invoice, the brake light was on and the pedal was hard. the dealer found the brake booster would not hold the vacuum. the brake booster was replaced.

While driving on an expressway, there was a backup of traffic and i went to depress the brakes. the brake pedal was so stiff it could not be depressed and the brakes did not engage. i kept my foot n the brake and still there was no braking. i let up my foot and depressed the brake pedal again and finally got the brakes to work. this has happened several times while driving this vehicle. i did contact my dealer and took the jeep in for this problem. the dealer indicated that they could not replicate the problem while road testing and could not find anything wrong with the brakes. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while reversing, the brakes failed to respond as the brake warning light illuminated. the contact mentioned that the emergency brake was activated in order for the vehicle to stop. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 48,000. *tr

I started my vehicle up on a cold morning, -5 degrees. brought vehicle up to 40mph, applied the brakes, noticed the pedal was stiff. brakes weren't working, and dashboard brake warning light was on. managed to stop and park vehicle. brought to dealership last night (2/14/14) where vehicle was diagnosed with bad brake booster. upon further investigation online, brake boosters were affected by cold whether all over the northeast part of the country. vehicle was extremely difficult to stop. service manager seemed familiar with the problem and reported that parts were being ordered from the manufacturer. i feel obligated to report this situation with the hope that something will be done about this problem before someone gets hurt. *tr

I currently lease a 2012 jeep grand cherokee laredo and the other day my wife and son were driving the car and the brakes completely failed. they would not depress even at 5-10 mph and if completely slammed to the floor the abs would pump bake fighting the brake pressure. they went through a red right and luckily were not hurt. later the brakes begin working and we dropped it off at the service center. once there they test drove it and almost crashed as the brakes would not work. they said it needs a new brake booster, but the part is on back order and there are actually 3 other cars at that service station which needs the same part. i have read a couple posts on various websites with people having the same issue. i was wondering if others have experienced the same issue? (on another note no one has been able to help us with either a loaner car or paying for a rental as the car has 38k miles so technically out of warranty..so that's been fun). thanks. *tr

I am the owner of a 2012 jeep grand cherokee that at the time of the following incident had approximately 48000 miles on it. during our first cold weather in january 2014 i took the car out and when i went to apply the brakes i had to step on the pedal with all my strength to avoid hitting another car and then had to steer the car off the road to avoid a accident. i then parked the car on the side of the road and did not drive it the rest of the day. the next day when the temperature was warm again i had no problem with the brakes. a week later during another cold weather the brakes had the exact same problem making the car extremely dangerous to drive and a liability to both me and others on the road. i had the car towed to my local mechanic who said it was a problem with the power brake booster and that the booster had a faulty design that allowed water to get into it causing failure in freezing temperature and is not detectable unless the temperature drops below freezing which is a huge safety hazard. i contacted to jeep to order the part and found out that it is on national back order due to a extremely high volume of parts failures in both jeep grand cherokee and dodge durango trucks. i barely avoided a serious accident in my truck due to a design flaw by jeep that they refuse to correct which will lead to a unsuspecting person being in a serious accident because jeep refuses to correct a known problem. *tr

My 2012 jeep grand cherokee experienced brake difficulties during the winter 2013/2014 twice. i blamed it on the extreme cold we were experiencing at the time. shortly thereafter, the brake recall notice was issued to the media. i immediately called my local chrysler/jeep dealer to inquire about the recall. i was informed that they had not been given notice to make appointments for the repairs. approx 1 month later the official recall notice was received by mail. i again called the dealer who told me i was #12 on their repair list. he also noted that the parts were being sent "a couple at a time" and that it could be a while. months later, i have called for an update and am still #5 on the waiting list. i let them know that i truly had experienced the failure and was concerned about winter weather coming soon. they said that they would get to me as soon as possible. i am very disappointed in the response to our concerns...especially having experienced the failure. *tr

Driving at road or highway speed, sudden application of brakes requires long distance to stop. soft peddle and requires greater pressure for emergency stops.took to dealer on 28dec2013 and requested inspection and repair of brakes. dealer analysis: "vehicle operating to manufacturers design." experienced same problem in february and april 2014. returned to dealer on 02apr2014 for oil change and complained of braking problem. dealer verbal, no problem found. *tr

I started car, backed out of driveway, attempted to stop car, brake hard but would not stop car, complete loss of braking capability. also loud hissing noise coming from under car. car was brought to elmwood chrysler e.providence ri. invoice no. [xxx]. cause found, brake booster and master cylinder faulty. cost to repair $705.37. i checked on line for chrysler recalls, found two mentioning problems with brakes in jeep grand cherokee vehicles manufactured 11/2011 mfr on door is 11/11. chrysler states recall id#102269 is in regards to brake boosters which is what went on my jeep. as of 5/20/14 i have not received a recall notice, i sent all information and copies of invoices to chrysler recall assistance center and chrysler customer care on 4/3/14, received by them on 4/7/14, i received a call on 5/13/14 , spoke with bill, case no. 24885879 assigned by chrysler, he was very rude, keep trying to get me to say that the brakes were soft, there were no brakes, pedal was hard to the touch, but no stopping power. told me brake failure was not covered by recall. i am completely at a loss, not only of my $705.37 but my respect and faith in chrysler products, as from what i researched on line the recalls were for brake booster. repair invoice states: cause found, brake booster & master cylinder faulty. this is the second major safety issue with this vehicle the first was in 8/2013, vehicle would automatically drop into first gear, it was a terrifying experience being that i was on the highway traveling at 65 mph, to drop down to barely 5 mph, absolutely no acceleration, fortunately the solenoid-transmission & transuded-pressure sensor & nine other parts were covered under the warranty. i should be so lucky this time ! i feel that chrysler has an obligation to stand behind it product when it come to the safety of the people who put their trust in them. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The vehicle lost all electrical power, steering and braking while in motion. the vehicle lost all control of steering and breaking when the electrical system shutoff. the electrical issue has happened 3 times within the first 2 year of ownership (~32,000 miles). the following parts have been replaced: fuel pump relay and overlay harness, wireless ignition node, integrated key fob, tipm kit, 2 key fobs, brake booster. vehicle almost caused 3 severe accidents while in motion. *tr

I am writing to you about an area of concern regarding my 2012 jeep grand cherokee overland. for no reason i have a crack in my windshield while the car was parked. this crack extends vertically from the top center of the windshield around the rear view mirror and then extends horizontally the remainder of the way. i understand cracks happen, though when i did some searching around the internet, i notice that this is far from an isolated incident. i have found dozens of threads on the same topic...and not just a crack that appears for no reason, but all these cracks are in the same location. this is not a coincidence. below are a few (one contains pictures). http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f19a60e (scroll down to entry # 8-10) http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f309/2012-overland-hemi-cracked-windshield-1362551/ http://www.truedelta.com/jeep-grand-cherokee/problems-144/2012 (scroll about halfway down) these pictures show an identical crack to the one that i have experienced. also of concern is that in the one post the user states that the windshield is on back-order from jeep...clearly jeep is selling a lot of replacement windshields. as we all know the windshield is one of the most dominant safety features on a vehicle and it is clear that there is a defect in the vehicle that is causing these cracks, likely a structural issue with the jeep grand cherokee. it would seem to me that an issue with a vehicle compromising the single most important safety feature of a car isn't to be taken likely and warrants investigation. i would be happy to provide you with pictures and can make myself available to speak at your convenience. also you should note that upon taking my car to the dealer, they were explicit that this was not a warrant-able item, leaving me with no issue than to submit a claim on my insurance. kind regards, steve gonda

Matthews dodge and chrysler will not service my recall after several calls and a complaint to vehicle safety! *tr

April 5, 2013, less than a year (purchased - 2012 jeep grande cherokee laredo) the check engine light went on, took vehicle to service department, and informed my service provider (jeep dealership) there is a "problem" with the cylinder head. very disturbing because the vehicle was purchased brand new, less than 10k miles and already a major part must be replaced on a "brand new" vehicle. i am informed that is not a common, and there are several other owners with the same problem "check engine light on". repair took more than three days, because the entire engine must be taken out to replace these two cylinders. very alarming and very concerned for the future of this vehicle, what else could possibly go wrong next? two months later, driver side seat must be replaced due to cracks in the "leather". two months after, brakes are making strange noises, acceleration very slow, stalls, must press very hard on gas pedal for vehicle to pick up speed, very frightening especially when entering the freeway. door panels appears loose, the doors (3) will not stay open, requires extra push and hold before it stays open by itself. to close the door i must literally slam the door, otherwise not shut, very disturbing because my childrens sit back there. hopefully this is my last encounter the cameras (back) of vehicle flash on and off, i am very concern especially when the position of the driver seat makes looking back very difficult, the camera cannot be functioning inefficiently. the vehicle has a 3/year or 36,000 mile warranty and with the amount of issues i have encountered i do not find that to be sufficient or even utterly appropriate. i purchased a brand new vehicle not a used. if there were no warranties i could not imagined paying out of pocket thousands of dollars on repairs. *tr
