Problems with 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 50 449 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

While operating the vehicle on the highway during rush hour (slow traffic) we lost all braking power from the vehicle. thankfully, we were able to get out of the situation without any harm, however at higher speeds we would have gone into a terrible accident. the vehicle was part of a recall for the brake booster in 2014, and was checked by a jeep dealer at the time. when we lost braking, the brake pedal became extremely hard, and we weren't able to loose speed at all.

My brake booster replacement for a recent recall had failed, and i was unable to stop getting off an exit on a major highway. i had to coast through a school zone and pull in to a local parking lot, having my car stop as i ran in to a snow bank. i had to have my car towed to a local car shop to assess the situation, then fight with chrysler to have them tow my car to the original dealer who sold me the car. i have always had my oil changed, tires purchased and all recalls on my car fixed at the original dealer, with whom i had purchased the car from in 2012.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle took an abnormally long time to stop. in order for the vehicle to come to a complete stop, the brake pedal had to be depressed excessively and the vehicle jerked as if it drove over a speed bump. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing; however, details of the brake failure could not be provided. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Driving about 45mph on city street during first snow storm of the year. approaching red light, engaged brakes, heard anti-lock start to kick in, then heard a popping noise, and then near complete loss of brake power. no accident. need to push brakes extremely hard in order to get even the slightest braking ability. car was bought used as a cpov from dealer in late 2014. was not informed of potential brake issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to stop the vehicle without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. the vin was repaired previously under nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes), but the failure recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

Vehicle engine shut off during right turn in busy intersection without any warnings. unable to turn or control vehicle. also the brake on lights come on in the consul during normal operation. based on other jeep model recalls, i believe the problem may be related to the tipm-7 module. the vehicle is a grand cherokee overlander 4wd. vehicle was able to be restarted and has not had another failure, however, this is an unsafe driving situation when the vehicle's engine dies while in motion in any road condition. maybe related to recalls p54.

In august of 2014 i noticed a firm response from my brake pedal when starting the car. i brought it to the dealer, grava in medford ma, and they told me they fixed it and that it was covered under recall p14. i later learned they only replaced the brake booster pump shield and not the booster. in october of 2015 i had a sudden loss of brake power when my brake booster failed and had to have my car towed to the dealer. the vehicle was in motion when this occurred; luckily slow speed.

I had my jeep in some time ago for the brake booster recall but over the last few months, i have begun to notice a sound of air when i am pressing the brake pedal. some information that i have found seems to denote this as an issue with the brake booster failing. i need to know if this means that this was not fixed when i took it in for the recall repair as this seems to be getting worse as time goes by. the date below is an estimate based on when this started but it is not a direct day of occurrence. this has been happening for several months now.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep cherokee. while driving down an incline at 15 mph, the brakes failed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. a year prior to the failure, the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 51,000. updated 02/18/16*lj updated 02/22/16.*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. after the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v540000 (service brakes, hydraulic), the brake pedal was depressed but failed to operate. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. six weeks later, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake pads needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, two weeks later the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the recall was partially performed and the brake booster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired under the recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

The dealer completed the brake booster inspection and i nserted a shield for the brake boosters recall in december of 14. after that date, the brakes were not stopping the vehicle during hard stops because proper brake pressure was not present. september 8 2015 the dealer replaced the brake booster because it was not operating correctly. the brake booster should have been replaced on the initial visit as i was driving around with brakes that were not operating correctly. normal driving i could not notice the difference but emergency stops and stopping while towing was dangerous.

On 9/5/15, i applied my brakes as i was approaching a red light at approximately 40 mph. initially i felt the brakes grab but then the brakes gave out causing me to swerve to avoid a car in front of me and then using the other lane of traffic to finally get the vehicle to stop in the middle of the intersection by applying my emergency brake. obviously, quite a harrowing situation for myself in addition to the other vehicles in my path on both sides of the road. luckily there was no accident and even more important, no injuries. westbury jeep in ny (where i service my vehicle) told me that the cause was a bad brake booster. that triggered questions in my mind as in september of 2014 i had recall p14 serviced. it seems that a shield had been installed but that the booster itself had not been changed. why wasnt the booster changed at that time? i now have my doubts that this was properly and adequately taken care of, putting my life and the life of others in danger. in researching this problem further, ive come across several other cases mirroring minequite alarming.

Day 1....car just stopped out of no where a picture of a battery showed up and the car just stopped and shut down on its own day 2....took car in to get a new battery because that was totally dead but on day 3...the battery did not fix the problem the car once again shut down on me and this time it was in the middle of the freeway i was stuck for a couple of hours cant even jump the car cuz it still wont start it so i had to get it towed off the freeway.. midday of day 3 discovered it was the alternator and finds out there were for 4 recalls on my car so i took it to the jeep dealership. they stated they can only fix 3 out of 4 of the recall due to not having all the parts and informed me it will be done before the day is over. 4:30pm came around and i called to check in on the car to see if it was ready the worker stated yes come pick it up so i did and when i was almost home the same problem the car shut down on me so i called the dealership to take the car back in before it fully shut down altogether. day 4....dealership called me about 11am and stated ok theres nothing wrong with it and i can go pick it up so i stated ok but about an hour later when i was about to be on my way the dealership stated wait do not come pick it up yet because there is something with the computer system of the car and that the steering power is not connecting to the alternator and is shutting the car down but the part to fix it wont be in til tommorrow. day 5..still waiting for my car to be fixed..... please if there is anyway i can just simply swap this lemon with a different car that would be great i have a 4 year old and this is a safety hazard and according to one of the recall the car can crash without notice.... help me pleaseeeeeee...updated 08/06/15 *bf updated 12/23/2015*js

We bought the 2012 jeep grand cherokee from serra chevrolet in madison tennessee on 5 16 2015 we noticed on drive home brakes were making noise and brakes were all way to floor and spongy i called chrysler and they said there was a recall on brake booster and fuel pump why did this dealer not check those recalls out this is a very unsafe vehicle to operate due to brakes not operating properly the dealership is setting them selves up for a law suit

I had just taken off from a traffic signal stop and the brakes failed. i was miraculously able to get over to the side of the road without hitting any other vehicles and bring the vehicle to a stop. i had my 2 week old infant in the back seat with me and this was an extremely traumatizing incident. most infuriating on this incident was that i already took the vehicle in to get the brake recall repaired on 7/26/14 to courtesy chrysler in grand rapids, mi 10 months ago!. at that time, the dealership stated they did not have the parts to correct the recall, but placed me on a waiting list and when the parts arrived, would call me to make the repairs. still waiting for that call! had the recall fixed at the closest dealer to where the brakes went out in holland, mi.

As i was backing out of my driveway today my brakes failed, and when i say failed i mean i had no brakes at all. i cannot tell you how frightening this was. i managed to stop the car by shifting it back into park. i was able to do this because i was not going very fast. since 2/12 (time of purchase) until 8/14 i have received 3 recalls (cylinder misfire, brake booster and sun visor wiring) on this brand new vehicle! i received the brake booster recall in the summer of 2014. it took a few months to get an appointment to have it fixed because of lack of parts in stock. i finally got an appointment on 10/8/14 at kelly jeep, lynnfield, ma (place of purchase) to have both the brake booster and the sun visor wiring repaired. the cylinder misfire was repaired before this time and before i actually received the recall because of problems i was having with the engine. after the brakes failing me today, i am grateful that i was not on the street/highway, that none of my children were driving the car or i was not driving someone else's child in a carpool. this does not change the fact that if the brakes failed just a couple of minutes later i could have been killed or even worse, have killed someone else, for the failure of the brake booster that was supposedly fixed on 10/8/14. *tr

When driving, often on highways for a while the brakes get extremely stiff feeling for a few seconds. after a few seconds the brakes go back to normal feeling. when this happens it feels like car loses braking power and braking feel during the stiff brake. *tr

I received recall notice p14 regarding the brake booster issue in or around may 2014. i called the closest dealership to my house and was told they were too busy, understaffed, had guys in training and had no time to fix the car. the dealership is ed tomko chrysler in avon lake, ohio. they assured me this was not a dangerous problem with the car. i asked them to call me back when they had time to do the work and they refused, saying it was up to me to call them. i called again in july and was told the same thing. on february 28, the brakes failed when i was driving, which caused a severe brake application problem. by some miracle, i avoided a serious accident by inches. i called the dealership immediately but was told the service department was gone for the day. i called on monday march 2 and was told that the first available appointment would be on april 21. i explained that the car was undriveable. the service manager once again told me that he was too busy, understaffed and had guys in training. this was almost word for word his excuse from last year. i called the chrysler group recall assistance number 800-853-1403 but hung up after 51 minutes, hearing over 50 times "thank you for holding, your call is important to us...." the lies of the dealership and the incompetence of chrysler could have cost me my life if the brake failure had occurred on the highway. please take appropriate action. thank you. *tr

A recall was issued for the jeep grand cherokee in early 2014. on july 31, 2014, i requested the repair, but the brake booster was back-ordered. i attempted several times, monthly, to schedule the repair, but was repeatedly told the part was not available. on february 13, 2015, our grand cherokee's brake booster failed, causing difficulty to control the vehicle when approaching an intersection. no accident occurred. fortunately, we were able to avoid a very dangerous situation. the vehicle was taken to the nearest mechanic. he suggested taking the vehicle to the jeep dealer due to a failure with the brake booster. since the vehicle is under warranty and also subject to the recall, the part should be replaced or repaired at no cost. the local jeep dealer offered to replace the brake booster. the part was available for repair since it had failed, but the part would not have been available to me if it had not failed. almost seven months have passed since i requested the repair under a safety recall. if it had not failed, it is not known how much longer it would have taken to get the repair performed. i understand i was 30-something in line for the repair, but there is more than 100 waiting at the local dealership. the dealer claims they are receiving a very limited supply for the recall parts. the jeep safety bulletin, found at http://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/pdf/p14.pdf, indicates a complaint should be filed if the repair is not completed in a reasonable amount of time. i do not believe seven months is a reasonable amount of time for this recall, due to the safety hazard associated with it. a prompt remedy could have prevented the near-accident experienced at the intersection. *tr

A few months ago there was a recall on my brake booster. i had been on the waiting list for 3 months waiting for this part. i was assured that my jeep was safe to drive. on friday nov 7th my brakes went out and i had to push really hard on the brakes in order to stop using both of my feet. luckily i did not cause an accident, which could have killed myself or someone else. i am very disappointed in chrysler with all these recalls. i had to use my triple a and have my car towed to the dealership. although the dealership was nice enough to give me a rental, i think that i need to be reimbursed for using my triple a. after i pay this jeep off i will not be buying nothing made by chrysler and will trade it in. it does not make any sense to be on a waiting list for 3 months waiting for something that is a vital importance to my safety. the next person may not be so lucky and it could be fatal and turn into a law suit. *tr
