The automatic charging system light came on 2 hours into driving north on the highway to wisconsin from chicago. there was no human action that correlated with the light coming on. it simply came on when going consistent speed on the highway in no traffic. i learned from the driver's manual that this most likely meant that the alternator had failed and i needed to get assistance immediately. i took the car into a repair shop on a thursday where it would remain for 10 days as things began to unfold. the employees of the repair shop could identify no fault in the alternator after thorough inspection and driving tests. the warning light had turned off. however, after it had been cleared of all inspection and turned on, there was an enormous failure in the car causing it to smoke. without warning, the alternator caused such a massive short that it not only failed itself, but also broke the car's engine computer. i come to find out that there was a recall by chrysler (t36) for this specific issue and included 2012 jeep grand cherokee's. i was never made aware of this recall but there is no question that this failure is specific to the manufacturing errors by chrysler jeep. there have been a total of 10 recalls on the 2012 jeep grand cherokee, 3 of which have been specific to this vehicle, and clearly, now a 4th. this could have been a been an incredibly dangerous situation and the failure by chrysler to notify me or include my vehicle in their recall is preposterous. i have documentation regarding repair and claims attached. more info and claim documents available upon request.
While braking to take a right turn (braking from ~40mph to 15mph) power steering was lost. fought the car around the turn, then pressed the accelerator, nothing happened. looked at the tachometer and it shows 0rpm, tried to brake further and now have no brakes. coast to a stop. no warning lights showed. all electronics were functioning normally. placed car in park then started as normal. model year is 2012z has 130000 miles. this has never happened before. no indication whatsoever of any problem previously
Vehicle randomly shuts off while driving. no indications of problem as far as warnings. loses all engine power, power steering, power brakes. happens when slowing. once shifted to neutral or park, it will restart without issue. intermittent dangerous problem. no faults active, no diagnosis to be found. vehicle is up to date on recalls as far as we can tell. concerns for safety are present. vehicle currently has 128929 miles, but this has happened 3-4 times a year randomly since we purchased it at 33k in 2014.
I had a recall on alternator which i had recall on and didn't received a letter in the mail. so one day i was driving with my family and i smell smoke coming my hood which i thought my car was on fire so i pull over and got out the car and call road side service to tow my car to championship of decatur. they fix the recall on the alternator and didn't replace my battery which was low. they charge my battery and everything was fine so i pick my car up and when down the street for 4 miles and my car cut off again so i had to get to auto zone to get a battery. i have a new battery and alternator and my jeep is still no powering on. i do not feel safe driving my vehicle anymore i have a 1 year daughter and another baby due any day now. so how can we resole this issue its not safe having a electrical system problem.

With only 50,800 miles check engine light produced several codes. i took this vehicle to 3 different places for a diagnostic test. they said it was power steering / a/c coolant leaking. with the 2nd diagnoses they found a leak with the auxiliary cooler (transmission fluid). so i had a complete transmission flush work done, but it's still leaking..

Engine randomly stalls for no reason while in motion, leaving the car coasting with no power brakes or power steering. once the car is brought to a stop, it will start back up and continue driving as if nothing was wrong. internet searches reveal that it is a common problem afflicting these models with no clear solution.
Purchased used 2012 grand cherokee overland w/94637 miles on january 27 2018. on january 31 at 8:50am after driving two miles i came to a stop at a stop light and while waiting for light change the engine died. no warning lights - the only indication was rpm dropped to zero. put vehicle into park and restarted without a problem. continued driving for the remainder of 32 mile trip. again on february 2 2018 the same thing occurred while my wife was driving. she came to a full stop and while waiting for signal light to change the vehicle engine quit with no warning lights. on both occasions this was the first trip of the day in the early morning ambient temperature of 55 degrees on dry pavement on city streets. both times the vehicle was restarted without a prolem and the trip continued without interruption. vehicle is scheduled at folsom lake jeep dealer for investigation.
This is not the first time this has happened owned car since oct 17 the engine stalls in the middle of driving has happened 6 times. a near miss twice of hitting a tree. you loss power steering when this happens. took to dealer and they cant find anything wrong. taking it back tomorrow 2/1/18 to do a diagnostic test and keep the car until it does it. very dangerous to drive! jeep do something about it! listen to the complaints on the internet! seems very common practice for jeep

8 times since new and 3 times since its last trip to the dealership, our jeeps engine will cut out, 6 times were when lifting off the throttle when exiting the interstate and twice where in traffic. when this happens you lose power steering and it becomes very hard to control. there are no warning lights on the dash, and no codes stored in the computer. since this is completely random the dealership has not been able to duplicate it. i have replaced the battery, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, and intake air temperature sensor, all with no help. we just dropped it off again and told them we do not want it back unless it is fixed.
2012 jgc ,54k miles . i appear better off than some,as my jeep's only real issue ,at the moment, is that it cranks but wont start. disconnecting the battery and leaving it for an hour will re boot the tipm and car will start. dealership singularly unhelpful, and chrysler customer service declined to help. i can see why.

I own a 2012 jeep grand cherokee vin: [xxx] for the past several months since purchase, the jeep has had issues starting and has stalled while driving at high rates of speed. this vehicle is not safe to currently drive and i am getting nowhere with the dealership (performance jeep: delaware, ohio https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls/search.html when clicking on this link and entering the vin below it shows the recalls completed for our jeep. the 2nd .pdf attachment (attached) shows the tipm recall was completed on 2/24/15. our car is continuing to stall. ?the totally integrated power module (tipm) on your vehicle contains an internal fuel pump relay that could operate intermittently or fail without warning. an intermittent or failed fuel pump relay could cause the engine to stall while driving and cause a crash without warning. what your dealer will do... fca will repair your vehicle free of charge. your dealer will install an external fuel pump relay.? carfax attached. first, a chrysler dealer tried reprogramming the computer module and then had to replace it in 2013. prior to the february 2015 recall. (i assume what they identify as the engine/powertrain computer/module is the tipm module ?i.e., the totally integrated power module.) issue 1 in august 2015, they replaced the fuel pump relay (i.e., the recall work). 2nd issue then, in april 2016, they tried to reprogram the engine powertrain computer module again, and again failed and had to replace it. third issue we are now having issues with the vehicle: fourth issue, still not fixed after taking it to performance jeep on 3 occasions. there has been a class action law suit with a settlement. as i understand those terms, they include an extended warranty on fuel pump repairs for up to 7 years/70,000 miles. we are well under the 7 years/70,000 miles. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My car turns off while driving differnt times of the day could be in the morning or could be during the day. it just shuts off with no sign the lights are on in the front the radio is still on its happened several times. some times does not want to start randomly... this is my 3rd time taking it into the dealer with this same issue and they keep saying nothing is wrong with it. this last time i was on the freeway and it just shut off. i just want them to repair it. the fist time i took it in i want to say i was under the warranty miles around 34 or 36000 i am going to confirm with the dealer.

While driving home from work during rush hour traffic on the highway, the red battery light came for the first time since i owned the vehicle. within minutes of the light appearing, the jeep's air conditioning went off, all warning lights appeared on the dashboard and the windshield wipers turned on (without prompting them). all three of these things happened within seconds of each other so i tried to pull over to the side of the highway but the jeep lost all power and stalled in the right lane of the highway. there was absolutely zero power so i was unable to turn my hazard lights on or put the car in neutral to roll to the breakdown lane (see attached picture). i then had to exit the jeep into oncoming rush hour traffic in the left lane and luckily made it safety to the shoulder where i called 911 and triple a for a tow. the jeep was towed to my local mechanic who said the alternator failed and that he had to unplug it from the battery since it was still producing excessive heat hours after it arrived there. i then called the fca customer service and referenced recall t36, since the exact same thing happened as the description provided (although i did not have any recalls on my vin). they put me in touch with the local jeep dealership to set up an appt so i paid for another tow there. the next day i receive a call from the service dept that my alternator failed, which drained my battery, which broke my module powertrain control computer totaling $2,134 in repairs. they cannot confirm nor deny that my jeep is part of recall t36, but regardless since my vin does not have any recalls on it, that i have to pay in full and that if down the road there is a recall that i will get reimbursed. i then call the fca customer service back and they check their internal system and confirm that i am not part of recall t36 and there are no outstanding recalls for my jeep.
I have 4 recurring problems with my jeep. first, the driver's heated seats periodically will not work. second, upon starting my car, it will just stall or shut down. this happens 2 to 3 times a week. third, the check engine light continuously comes on and off (and when i get it checked, i am told something about the thermostat, but have had no problems with it overheating). finally, the cruise control on/off button will not work sometimes. i have to physically hit the steering wheel for it to work. i have read about tons of recalls for my year jeep, but my vin number is not included. i am starting to think it should be.

180 amp alternator experienced catastrophic failure causing total loss of all power, battery failure, pcm failure and smoking and burning smell from engine compartment. experienced loud whinning from alternator while driving immediately prior to failure. ultimate failure occured as car pulled into parking spot. this is the same issue experienced by 160 amp alternator under recall. it is extremely dangerous and chrysler/jeep should be required to fix these issues.
Jeep stalls suddenly while driving with no indication other than the loss of power steering. this occurs repeatedly at different speeds ranging from 15 mph in the city to 60 mph on the highway. stalling has occurred when slowing down and also while turning.
2012 altitude. sometimes when i am driving the engine will cut out. there are no warnings, no glitches in the electrical components or anything. the only way i know the engine cuts out is that there is no response from the gas pedal and i lose power steering. i have to shift into neutral, ease on the brake, press the start button, and then when it restarts i shift it back into drive and pick up where i left off. like i said, there are no glitches in the lights or anything. no codes or engine lights or anything. i bought it in sept 2016 and its been in the shop about 9 times. they cant even get the problem to happen, let alone fix it. i emailed the jeep and fiat ceos for a paper trail in case i got into a wreck- wanted to cover my ***- and they responded. they said they'd pay for my rental car every time i brought my jeep in for service on this issue. so that has limited me to bringing it into the dealer. they are giving me a number to allow me to purchase a new jeep at employee cost, but, considering i bought a 2012 in 2016, i can't afford a 2017 model. i'd have to sacrafice a lot of my current options to try to find a vehicle priced to maintain my current payments. this has happened from all speeds. it happened to me while driving around 70mph, 30mph, and even after i came to a red light, and the light turned green, i pressed the gas and got nothing... the only thing that i have noticed, and i'm not even sure i really noticed this, but if i'm driving hard, and go from fast to slow quickly, but not slamming on my brakes, kind of like flying down the street and then the light turns so you gotta come to a stop soon. i hope that makes sense. i'm not even sure this has anything to do with it. i have aftermarket hids installed (ddm tuning with canbus plus or whatever it is) however, it's happened day or night, lights on and lights off.
My alternator and then my ecu computer were damaged exactly in the same way that was described in the p60 recall. unfortunately i realized that my vin is not listed in the recall. how can i get reinbursed from the dealer all the expenses that i paid if my vin is not in the recall although it has the same damaged that is described in the p60 bulletin , please advise marcelo
I had the car for 3 years and didn't have any issues. last saturday evening 4/14/17 we had just gotten home from running to the store and black smoke started to come up from the front right side of the hood. i backed the car out of the garage and went around the car to see what the issue was. saw sparks, grabbed my son from the back ran and called 911. with in 5 min the front of the jeep was on fire. took 30 min to put out and the car is totalled.
At approximately 50,000 my vehicle developed an exhaust leak.
Usally when i drive the car slow the speed the cars turn off the dealer says the car was repaired but i have over 6 videos when my car turn off in the highway the danger is you can't use the steering because is to heavily to drive.
2012 jeep grand cherokee overland became possessed. while driving on the freeway, lights began flashing on dash, occasional lurches from transmission, one headlight goes out at night. when i pull over and turn the car off, it will not start. it was as though everything is dead. no response from any button on the key. after about 5 minutes, the headlights began flashing and horn bleating as though emergency. i pressed the "panic" button on the key fob and it stopped. car now started. i drove a few miles then everything began going crazy again. when i stopped, with car still running, windshield wipers began working as though on intermittent. then they began wiping fast. i tried turning the wipers on or off, to no avail. they were working with their own mind. dangerous! i had no idea, while driving on the freeway, if both headlights would suddenly go out (it was night while i was driving) instead of just one, transmission damage may occur (what was causing the lurching?). when i pulled over. *tr

In the 18 months i have owned the vehicle it has randomly turned off 5-6 times on the highway or on a street. the engine turns off (with no warning on the dash) and you lose power steering and braking. i have taken it to the dealership twice in the last two months and they are not able to diagnose. i am picking up the car tomorrow from the dealership that has had it for the past six days. they will be releasing me an unsafe car that i will not allow my daughter or wife to drive.
