My grand cherokee has stalled several dozen times over the past few years and the dealer can't fix it. the car stalls when slowing to a stop or turning through an intersection but we can't duplicate the problem at the service center. the dealer kept the car for nearly a month trying to duplicate the problem but could not, but i have kept records over the past year of all stalls and the conditions and the only condition that remains constant is that i am quickly braking from 40 mph or faster or i am braking while turning. initially it only occurred while turning left, but now it occurs while turning right and while braking quickly while going straight. i have been in several near misses due to losing power steering and brakes and i am to the point to where i can't allow anyone but me to drive the car due to the safety factor. twice i almost hit a car while turning and once a big rig almost hit me in the side as the car stalled mid-intersection of a six lane highway. the car is still under chrysler's warranty, and as noted, the dealer has tried to fix the problem, but has failed time after time. the problem has occurred dozens of times but the latest time was today, at which point i decided to submit this complaint. although i can't duplicate the problem on demand, there are 3locations where it most often occurs, and it most often occurs in the morning. the first location is about 2.5 miles from my house, and the other two are 5 miles each from my house. two of the three locations are at intersections with red lights, while the third is simply the location of where i work where it has stalled multiple times while just turning into the driveway. it also has stalled several times while coming home or just driving around or on vacation. dealer has replaced fuel pump relay, wiring, and some emission control parts.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 35 mph, the engine stalled and all the indicators on the instrument panel illuminated. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive home. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 19v813000 (fuel pump). the contact spoke with an unknown dealer and was informed to wait on the recall. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the part was not available for the repair and advised the contact that they may need to replace the fuel pump; however, it may not correct the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was not available. vin tool confirms parts not available. Altanater caught on fire while driving resulting in damages
Chrysler made a recall on the fuel pump relay on nov 14, 2019. on nov 18, 2019 my vehicle completely stopped in the middle of the street and did so numerous time during the week. luckily, i was never on the highway went it happened. i called chrysler they informed me it was one of the vehicles in the recall, however they did not have a solution at the moment and i had to wait until jan 2020. i could not drive a vehicle in that condition, so i took it to my mechanic. i called chrysler to inform them of this and they said to just submit the proof of the service. however, when i did submit the proof they declined it stating chrysler had not updated the recall and there were no parts. i should get reimbursed for the recall.
The 2012 jeep grand cherokee overland i purchased two years ago has started to completely stall while driving causing the power steering to not function as well as the brakes. this engine power turns off randomly at around 10-15 mph (when making turns, stopping and/or accelerating) but there are no warning lights that appear on the dash. all electrical power to the car still functions and the engine stall is not noticeable until applying pressure to the brakes or trying to steer the wheels. the first incident was (easter) 28 april 2019. the car shut off around 10 miles per hour as i made a left turn crossing the incoming lane into a parking lot. luckily there was no car coming or a serious accident would have resulted. the frequency of these types of stalls have become greater. they are happening at least once a week without any type of warning. the most recent incident was november 7th 2019. this vehicle was released from the dealership on november 1st, 2019. the vehicle has been taken to the dealership multiple times to find the problem as well as maintenance. nothing has been found that would cause this. the dealership says the vehicle is perfectly fine. as simple test drive will not be able to find the problem.this is the same concern as fca recall t59 and nhtsa recall # 17v-572.
Engine stalled while in motion on us highway 101 on 11/7/19; fortunately no crash occurred. we took into mechanic at jeep santa maria; they had it all week from 11/8/19 to 11/15/19 and said it was fine. it appears this was caused by a faulty part that was installed pursuant to a previous recall that fca has been investigating since 2018. we are anxious to have this open nhtsa campaign number:19v813000 resolved asap.
I was pulling into a parking spot and transitioning the vehicle to park when the vehicle accelerated. i had my foot pressed firmly on the brake but it did not stop and it went up and over a parking barrier into another parked vehicle.
Vehicle shuts off within minutes of starting while stationary
I was driving on the highway on 7/21/19 and my 2012 jeep grand cherokee's engine seized. the car had to be towed and now jeep has a 2 month waiting list for the hemi motor (which apparently this is a known problem for - that is why the waiting list is so long). it will be over $8000 to fix and i still owe on the loan for the car that i have had less than 3 years. if hemi motors are a problem, jeep should make them with v6 not the hemi v8 motors. there is no recall for this as of now. i am stuck without a vehicle to get to work and a large loan for a useless jeep that i can't drive. it has 90,000 miles on it. why is jeep allowed to continue to make these if they are such issues. why is there not a recall on hemi engines in jeeps? then when you try to call jeep corporate they claim they return calls once a week (which they don't) and the customer service reps told me "thing happen". this is a terrible way of doing business and as a jeep owner for many many years i will never buy a jeep again. hopefully this happens enough that they will need to do a recall and i can recoup some of my money back.
I recently purchased this vehicle and it completely shuts off unexpectedly. when it does it affects both the braking and the steering. the first time i was stopped at a light and was an easy fix but the 2nd time i was getting off an exit around 50 mph. i have young children and now i am scared to drive them around in it. i know in not the only one this is happens, there's complaints all over the internet. there should be a recall before someone dies.
My jeep has an ignition/starting problem. it will try to start but just keeps turning over. after 10 seconds it will stop then it will usually start after. online it says the timp could be the problem.
I have less than 76k miles on my jeep. i have been the only owner, taking exceptional care of my jeep, always getting oil changes on time and maintenance with very few city miles on my jeep and i am having to pay 10k for a new motor and camshaft.
My engine light has decided to light up in my jeep randomly one day after starting it. after scanning it, it shows code p0522. the research i have done has shown it usually shows the oil light when it is that code. so as a result, i have had my oil changed again and i have ordered a oil pressure sensor/sender hoping that will fix all my problems which will be installed next sunday (7/7/2019). i also had to change the water pump because it had a crack in it, the thermostat just for precautionary measures, and the belt because it had a tear in it about half the size of the width. all of this to try to figure out the problem with the engine light and the scanner showing the code p0522. so we will see if that actually fixes the problem.
My vehicle has decided to start bogging around 35mph. it has continually done this for a week and has decided to start driving horrible. it does not drive like it has been. we are going to check what the problem might be sunday (7/7/2019) and attempt to fix. my jeep is no longer covered under warranty.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was parked, it took multiple attempts to start the engine. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 110,000.
When getting off the expressway or highway my truck cuts off when i exit for my stop no power or control of the power steering.
Engine stalls for no reason under braking and deceleration. happens more often when braking and turning. loss of power steering when it happens. does not happen frequently , more often in the cold when the car has been started. cant replicate it when car is hot. dangerous when it has happened on exit ramps as car has to be controlled with no power steering and car has to come to a complete stop, put in park where it has always restarted. people behind me not happy when stopping on exit ramps. have brought to dealer after it has happened and the car has not thrown any codes. there is not real pattern to this stalling, but, having to stop the car to restart it posses a danger of getting rear ended. happens at speeds between 30 to 60. happens most frequently in rotaries (roundabouts) when slowing down to enter.
Vehicle struggles to start when starter button engaged.
Push button start does not work. fuel pump is not working properly to allow the vehicle to start. the vehicle has stalled out on a freeway. will not start while stationary. i have to tap the fuel pump in order to start the vehicle
Braking from ~35mph to make a right turn at traffic lights the car just stalls without any indication of issue. no power steering or brakes. all electronics still functional. coast to to a stop at the side of the road, fighting the heavy steering to avoid cars in the on coming lane, place in park press brake pedal and hit start button, and the car starts right up. drive to dealership (prime jeep in saco, maine). steering module clock spring was replaced last year (august 2018) as the supposed cause for this exact stalling problem that was happening last year.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle shook violently and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to jacksonville chrysler dodge jeep ram arlington (9600 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, fl 32225, (877) 677-5782) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not determined. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000.
After failing inspection it was in shop 6 weeks for repair but was not repaired! it misses more than ever, most often during idle & has difficulty starting at times & you can smell gas sometimes making me fear it will catch fire.
Engine failure. it's currently at the shop and they're saying i need to rebuild or replace the engine. i have the 5.7l hemi with 76,000 miles on it.
Having issues starting the vehicle will attempt to start but will not turn over as if the fuel pump or relay is not kicking in. vehicle was parked attempted to start has an extended crank.
While driving down the road going 45 the engine has cut out and we have lost all power to the vehicle. we narrowly avoided an accident by pulling over and restarting the vehicle. the vehicle has done this three times and it doesn't seem to be during any specific time, or lengthy of travel. it has happened randomly.
Engine shuts off while driving, i was getting off the highway slowing down from a high rate of speed and my engine just shut off. i d id not even know the engine was off until i tried to turn and had no power steering or brakes. there was no warning lights no check engine light. all the lights and radio was still on. i had to put my jeep in park then start it again and it started right up. it has happened twice in one week. i am terrified while driving now that it is going to happen again.
Starting issues, starts up and quickly cuts off. all lights and power are on. plenty of fuel in tank but not overfilled. i think it is the fuel injection area. i worry it will just cut off due to that while driving. this has happened at least 3 times in the past 3 weeks, it is becoming more frequent.
Car began to sputter and rise in rpms and missing gear going into nuetral and causing dangerous situations in traffic runs at 2 rpms in ideal standpoint now car is leaking fluids and service 4wheel drive lights on i read that there are recalls for this issue in other keeps but not for my vin number and this is a manufacturer problem
Takata recall while i'm driving the vehicle it will shut off. i will put it in park and it starts back up. this is unsafe because i can be driving in traffic or be in an intersection and it just shuts off. i've taken it to have a mechanic look for any readings and nothing is coming up. it also shuts off while trying to start the vehicle up for the first time. it takes several attempts, again nothing coming up when taken to the mechanic.this has been going on for almost a year.
Yesterday my jeep engine turned off twice while driving on city roads. this happened in the morning on my way to work and at night on my way home from dinner. luckily this happened on city roads either before getting on the highway or after getting off the highway, as i take the highway daily for work. conincidentslly both instances happened while attempting to turn right. i did not hear the engine turn off while driving, but noticed because as i was attempting to turn there was no power steering. the radio, dash and interior lights never flickered or turned off when the ingine stalled. again, luckily i was not at a high speed when this happened and put on my hazards and was able to slowly come to a stop with the brakes but they were very slow to react. i put the car back in park and started it right up both times. very scary experience to have the engine just shut off in the middle of traffic and panic to avoid an accident from occurring.
Unknown cause of overheating. authorized service performed by dealer. upon initial diagnosis of vehicle no code was put out while simultaneously in active overheat mode. multiple investigations performed by service techs were performed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 50 mph, gray smoke appeared under the hood. the manufacturer and dealer were not notified. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Engine stalls while driving without warning. this started in november 2018 and has happened 5 times since. have taken it to 3 different repair shops and still no resolution. there was a recall back in 2015 #15v-115 to fix the fuel pump relay which could cause this to happen. service was done per the recall. have an active case with jeep (fiat) but they have been no help and keep sending us the jeep dealer. diagnostics have been done 3 times to no avail. this is a significant safety issue as the vehicle dies while driving and the steering locks up as well as the brakes. each time this happens the vehicle is in motion going about 40mph. has happened while going straight and while turning. the radio stays on and no warning lights appear on the dashboard.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled and the engine made an abnormal grinding sound when the vehicle was started. the contact called sharp motor company (ford dealer) of tennessee (1516 w college st, pulaski, tn 38478, (931) 363-2533) and was informed that the vehicle would not be serviced because a recall did not appear on nhtsa.gov. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 127,000.
I bought this vehicle used & no problems until the recalls come rolling in but had a cylinder 2 misfire at 132,000 miles ok contacted dealership & it was fixed, but found out this was the 2nd time this has happened amongst finding out the whole engine had to be replaced from the factory. i'm now 161,334 miles & have a cylinder 2 misfire again. if it fails compression test again this will be a 3rd time the head has failed & i'm past jeep's extended warranty to cover it. apparently jeep has not fixed their flaw. it spits an sputters, idles rough sometimes & i always do my maintenance when it's needed. it does it when i'm mostly parked but i can feel it when i'm stopped & idling.
Transmission cooler/ac condenser leak at tube joints
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was parked, the contact was unable to start the vehicle with the main key fob. the contact stated that the spare key fob had to be used. also, while driving unknown speeds, the vehicle started to stall. the vehicle was taken to scranton dodge chrysler jeep ram (located at 1146 wyoming ave, scranton, pa 18509, (570) 344-1261) where it was diagnosed that the key fob needed to be replaced. the part was replaced in december of 2018, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the receiver needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was not provided.
When slowing the vehicle it will just silently shuts off. this happens usually at the same 5 places, 3 of them when slowing to make a right hand turn in an s turn and the other 2 going straight slowing to stop to make a left turn across traffic. i feel like it's a combination of braking, steering wheel and when its shifting into 1st since i'm either in a stopping situation or s turn situation. when this happens i loose steering and brakes causing me to go into the opposite lane of travel head on. there have been recalls on the alternator for my vehicle but mine has never been included. there has been a recall for a sensor that has been completed but did not solve the problem. this is a serious issue, my chance for a head on collision is very very scary. this happens about 6-10 times a week.
The truck continues to stall while operating and does not turn over when trying to restart. this prevents a quick reaction to being stalled when slowing to enter or exit at an intersection. on most occasions, the car will not start and continues to crank when either using the push start, manual key fob, or auto start. it cannot be moved once stalled. if you attempt to restart too quickly or after several attempts, it will flood. this same issue was included in a previous recall for the fuel pump relay. however, it did not resolve the issue. the same behavior is experienced and is very dangerous. to provide history of failed recalls, the brake shield recall was corrected by two seperate recalls and was also a very dangerous safety issue that prevents driver control over the vehicle when stopping. the stalling occurs when coming to a stop or stopping, and when performing strong turns. these types of turns are done frequently at intersections with on coming traffic. it is very dangerous because you don't even have the ability to restart the vehicle to escape the danger.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. in cold weather, the engine failed to immediately start. napleton's arlington heights jeep (1155 w. dundee rd, arlington heights, il) was notified of the failure. the contact indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 15v115000(electrical system) in which the fuel pump relay was replaced. however, once the temperatures became colder, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was offered. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 54,000. *tt *jb
1. jeep dies for no reason when decelerating it happens at highway speeds when taking the foot of the gas it last happened on highway 1 on a big curve, steering and brakes lost power on a cliff side road.(scared me and the family 1/2 to death) it has happened on the dumbarton bridge in commute traffic it also happens when decelerating on off ramps or coasting to stop lights. you need to completely stop the car put it in park and press on the brake to restart it. this in traffic is also dangerous jeep says 10 things may cause it and they will not fix try any of then because they cannot pinpoint which one it is. 2. cruise control slams on the breaks for no reason. another dangerous problem no cars in front of me, open highway, no overhead bridges or guard rails in sight and the brakes slam on.
The vehicle has now had it's 3rd water pump replacement, jeep has put a warranty extension on the water pump's for the 13-17 model years and i have a 2012 with the same effected part and jeep refuse's to pay for something they know its a problem, they won't do anything for me and i have had to have it fixed by an independent repair shop. the warranty extension is x73 from jeep.
Vehicle in motion, but decelerating from higher speed to a stop or lower speed. engine shuts off. no warning/dash lights come on everything else (radio, lights) continue to work. the only way to know the engine is no longer running is the power steering and power brakes don't work and the rpm on the tachometer go to zero. car typically will re-start with no issue, but will almost immediately stop again. when the car sits for about 15-20 minutes, it'll start right up and drive fine. there has not been a pattern, other than slowing down. it's stalled on me the following times and situations: * slowing down to turn right off the highway - was raining, started right up after stall ran fine (2014) * slowing down to a complete stop at an intersection, would restart, but not stay running. waited 20 minutes for towtruck and the vehicle started right up. (2016) * slowing to a stop for light in town, started right up, but would not remain running, waited 20 minutes ran fine (2016) * stalled in stopped traffic. started right up was able to drive to a parking lot but stalled again and would not restart for 15-20 minutes. ran fine once started again. (2017) * stalled in stop and go traffic on i-95 in philadelphia. started right up again, but had to wait 20 minutes for it to remain running (03/2018) * stalled when coming to a stop for stop sign. wouldn't start right up. had to wait 15-20 minutes then it started and ran fine. (09/29/2018) have taken to the jeep dealer on the three earlier occasions, however, they indicate that they are unable to replicate the situation and there are no engine codes to review - therefore they are unable to correct the situation. so i have been driving the vehicle as is, but after the last two times of this occurring i must remedy the issue. assistance will be greatly appreciated.
I have owned this vehicle for 3 years, and in that time it has randomly lost all power while driving 5 different times, making it hard to turn off the road. i have to pull over and restart the vehicle. there is no warning, it just dies. i am not finding a recall concerning this, but there should be. i have read several other complaints about the same issue.
Upon doing regular oil change the oil filter adapter cracked and the spring came out. the oil filter adapter now requires replacement. there is a known service bulletin for the problem from chrysler. reference #09-003-13 * date of issue = 10/26/13
Engine failing while driving but i was able to safely remove vehicle from the road to avoid crash. issue is the engine rod bearing failure. recall for same issue came out in 2011 but my vin was not included. nhtsa campaign id number: 11v487000
The 2012 jeep grand cherokee will crank with no start. the jeep refuses to fire up, it will crank for long periods of time but will absolutely not start up. could be an electrical issue or fuel pump relay or engine. seems a lot of friends of mine are having the same issue with this very same model. please help me with the defective car.

Fuel pump, recall done but not effective. almost three times a week, the jeep grand cherokee does not start or stalls right after starting. this is when i am parked and will just keep cranking and not start. the dealer wants to charge me to replace the fuel pump and does not acknowledge the recall is faulty. driving on the highway, the car stalled on me for no reason and then took 5 minutes of cranking to finally start again. luckily i was not in the middle lane on i95. at first it happened once or twice a week, now it is almost everyday.
