We have classified the 600 complaints from 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
My jeep became increasingly difficult to start. i took it to the dealership and it was a tipm issue. the dealership rewired the fuel pump circuit to tipm with a stand-alone outside relay. this new relay is used to turn-on the fuel pump. *tr
My jeep would not start. i checked online and found many people had the same problem however some said that when they got the vehicle to start it would suddenly quit running while driving. i brought the vehicle to the dealer who explained that the electrical connection to the fuel pump was the problem and that they would have to replace the tipm. the service writer said that this problem was more prevalent on the 2011 model. if it is true that this is a defective part and that the fuel could shut off at any time, this certainly seems like a safety issue. *tr
Engine did not start. *tr
Hello, i was browsing the internet after running into the faulty tipm with my 2011 grand cherokee. i purchased a certified pre owned vehicle from buhler bitter dealership in hazlet nj in late january/ feb 2014. this past friday i brought my vehicle to the dealership to have the problem looked at. in return i was given a bill for over 1,500 dollars to fix the issue. they told me the issue was not a recall and was not covered by the limited warranty i was given. is there any steps i should take with this? i already paid and had the vehicle fixed.. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Vehicle would not start. dealer replaced fuel pump relay, mentioned many people were having this issue and that chrysler may have/need to recall so keep receipt. suspect it may be the tipm. *tr

When you push the start button it doesn't start but if you push it 3 to 4 times after hesitation it starts as long as you pull your foot away from the brakes but a mechanic told me that he hears the fuel pump coming on and staying on even though the car isn't running. i called chrysler on monday the 15th of september and according to them and the local dealer i had to pay to repairs and it sounded like a tipd problem or a fuel pump or this or that but i had to bring it for them to look at and they will give me an estimate. i have a government vehicle to drive to work and back and i had to depend on other people to get to places and use the jeep when i have to yet it takes a few minutes to get it started until i can file a complaint after all the vehicle has low mileage and sounded like a defect. thankfully i heard on the national news yesterday that they are recalling the 2011 jeep grand cherokee for that same problem and after reading other complaints on the same year vehicle it was like seeing a carbon copy of my complaint. what happened to me and my children when the jeep stalled on camp kanata rd. in wake forest, nc will not be forgotten. it frightened me mainly for my child. she was worried that we were going to be hit from the rear when the jeep stopped suddenly only 100 ft. from leaving the driveway of camp kanata. we thought we had a flat tire or that the vehicle will not start again but again thankfully we weren't hit. *tr
I currently have a tipm issue which can sometimes make it impossible to start my car. in addition, it can cause any of the following. the fuel pump not turning off the airbags not deploying or deploying randomly the engine stalling while driving the horn going off at random times. i have a 7 year old son and i use this vehicle everyday and i can not and will not put my life, my son and other drivers life at risk because of this issue with this vehicle. about a month ago i had to get my break boosters replace as well because they went out and i almost got in to an accident and hurt not only me and my son but another driver. i contacted chrysler the seem to show not much concern but i was able to take it to a local chrysler service department and they corrected the break booster issue. now i have this electrical issue that is not safe and i don't wan to cause any damage to anyone or myself because my jeep stalls in the middle of the highway my airbags go off while driving and cause me to hurt someone or myself. please help me not only me but help me for the other drivers on the road no one needs to get hurt because of these defects of this vehicle. thank you! *tr

Tipm broken causes car to shut off. *tr
As i was trying to leave work on sept. 10, jeep wouldn't start. it would try for a minute, the whole thing would shake, and then it would turn off. i tried again, jeep started fine and drove home fine. the next morning when i was headed to work, the jeep wouldn't start - same shaking thing, i tried 5 times and it would never come on. started researching online and looks like we've fallen victim to the tipm problem i keep reading about. *tr
Vehicle will not start. i am told it is related to a tipm failure. 1300 dollars to fix on a car that is out of warranty with less than 20k miles. the part is also ok back order for over a month. i am told there could be random deployment of airbags also. *tr

There is a known issue and recall with the tipm failing. my car has the same issues. starting issues and engine will at times just die while driving. my wife had the car stop right in the middle of an active intersection. the dealership has diagnosed this as the problem but when i call chrysler they say my car is not included in the recall. cost will be over $1,000 to fix. my car is now dangerous and i never know when it will start or not. *tr
My jeep grand cherokee hasn't been starting regularly for about 3 months. four days ago the headlights turned off while i was driving, yesterday it wouldn't start at all. currently having the tipm replaced to the tune of $1100. *tr
I was driving on the highway and the vehicle shut off, the lights started flashing and there was no power to the vehicle. i thought i was going to die!!! it was very hard but i got it to the shoulder. i called 911 and my insurance company and they had it towed to the nearest dealer. they could not use a normal tow truck they hat to use dolly wheels, since everything was locked. my lights continued to flash for over six hours till the dealer could get them shut off, it blew my fog lights and a turn signal. they said it was the tipm and they luckily had one. this was to be all fixed back in february. *tr
My vehicle has been having difficulty starting. it sometimes takes 3-10 times to start. it sometimes doesn't start at all, leaving me stranded with an infant in tow. i had the problem diagnosed and was informed of a temporary repair to the problem but then learned of an upcoming recall for the tipm. i decided to wait on repairing the issue, unsure as to whether the fix prescribed by the dealer would be reimbursed once the recall was released. i just got an 'initial' recall notice which stated that there still was no repair for this problem - even though it was said to be the cause of potential crashes and stalls mid-drive. as i have a small child in the car with me every time i drive, i am extremely cautious and nervous about this issue and the risk i am taking by continuing to drive this vehicle without a repair. i bought this car specifically because of the safety it would provide my family in transportation. now i am acutely aware of the dangers involved and the need for a fix immediately. *tr

When cranking my vehicle it begins to stall and sounds as if it is flooding. it continues to do this until i can get it to turn off. the stalling is continuous. when i took my jeep to the dealership they informed that the problem i am experiencing is due to a defective totally integrated power module, or tipm. this defective part is the cause of the problems i'm incurring with starting my vehicle and it's stalling. while researching the issue i learned that the tipm can "prevent the fuel pump from shutting off properly, cause headlights and taillights to shut off, and can cause random and uncontrollable activity of the horn, windshield wipers, alarm system, door locks, and airbags." *tr
The engine dies quickly after start, the horn, door locks, and windshield wipers start randomly. *tr
My jeep was having problems starting for 3 weeks now but the dealer couldn't look at it until 9/9/14 on tuesday 9/2/14 it stalled while doing 55 mph on the long island expressway, i was able to coast to the shoulder and able to get the car started after about a dozen tries. i called the dealer and tried to get in earlier because on my concern about safety. they told me i was lucky i still had the appointment that i had because they are overbooked. it would not start at all on friday 9/5/14 i had it towed to another dealer that diagnosed it as a faulty tipm. and it would cost me 1098 to fix because the warranty will not cover it. after looking up the problem i see that this is a serious issue with my model. this is a serious problem with the engine stalling at speed. chrysler should fix this for free! *tr

Car will not start and fuel pump will not shut off. the issue is related to the totally integrated power module (tipm). *tr
I parked the car in the garage and heard a noise. after searching the whole car, the fuel pump was stuck on. i turned car on and off thinking it would reset and it did not. i had to pull the fuse to turn off the pump. i took it to the dealer and was told that the tipm was bad and will cost $1500.00 to replace. *tr

Faulty tipm (totally integrated power module) that needed replacement. vehicle would not start. repair cost $1350. dealer was familiar with the problem once i mentioned the issue i was having and mentioned he had just replaced one in a durango. i did a little online research and am finding out that this is a common, expensive and known chrysler issue. i'm hoping a recall is conducted and that owners who have had to pay for repairs are reimbursed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off. after restarting the engine, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the dealer stated that the totally integrated power module was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 41,000.

Tipm part needs replacing-faulty part. vehicle will not crank. *tr
After several attempts at starting the vehicle with the push button start and it would not turn over. at first, the tire pressure indicator light was coming on. i took it to discount tires and they said the air pressure on all 4 vehicles was fine. two days later, tire pressure indicator came on again. once i was leaving work, i attempted to start vehicle and after about 5 tries, it finally started. at this point i was a bit leery and decided to drive the vehicle to jeep dealer and have them check it out. at the time the rep stated that he could not look at the vehicle until monday because he two days behind. after describing to him what was going on, he indicated that the starter seemed to be sticking and he would not recommend that i continue to drive the vehicle for safety that it may stall while driving. i drove the car home and parked it. the next day, i tried to start the vehicle to drop it off at the dealer. no luck. after several attempts, i gave up and ended up getting a rental for the weekend. after extensive research on the internet it appears to be a faulty part in the vehicle that has enforced a class action law suite from several chrysler, jeep and dodge owners. predominately owners of the 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle is still not repairable, and i don't see the point in towing it to the dealer and pay them $100 to diagnose the problem has been declared a nationwide issue. i too am a dedicated jeep customer and really want to stand behind the product, hopefully this won't turn into a gm issue. *tr
I began having difficulties starting my vehicle about a week ago, the engine would continually turn over without actually starting (push button start). each time i would have to press the start button multiple times and let the vehicle cycle through multiple failed attempts until the engine would finally start. however, this morning, after cycling through multiple attempts and getting the vehicle to start, the engine shut off while i was driving. after the engine shut off the dashboard read as if it was still running. i was unable to start the vehicle after that and had to push it out of the way (was luckily still in a parking lot). *tr
Vehicle would not start due to failed totally integrated power module. the tipm would not send power to the fuel pump and engine would not start. chrysler knows about this problem but fails to take responsibility for the defect. *tr
2011 jeep grand cherokee. consumer states problems with hesitation to start and dying in the garage. *tgw the vehicle was inspected and it was determined the integrated power module needed to be replaced. *jb

My car (sitting in the garage at a shopping mall) would not start, i tried to start it 5 times, then let it sit a bit and tried it again and it started. went directly to eastside chrysler jeep and they repaired it for me. it took a day but cost me 1,310.00. i see there are quite a few cars with the same problem. my car's warranty was still in effect, but the dealership did not honor it. saying it was a second owner vehicle. sorry, i bought the warranty when i bought it and it should have been honored. now knowing what i know now that it is a defect in the electrical system, i am lucky i wasn't stuck out on the freeway. i feel like i was taken advantage of and think the company owes me a refund since my car is under warranty. *tr
Driving home from work on a friday afternoon, while making a turn in residential area, the engine cut off and the steering locked up. the radio, instrument panel and a/c were all still on, so did not immediately realize the engine was off. was able to restart after putting vehicle into park. fortunately, no other vehicles were behind me or could have been worse. dealer not able to find what was wrong since they could not replicate it, so was not able to repair problem. has not recurred, but now very scary driving, not knowing if it will happen again. *tr
It began a couple of weeks prior to 8/14/14 where the car would take several tries to start. i would press the start button and the car would not turn over and start. finally on 8/14/14 it was at it's worst taking many more tries and barely started when i left work and again picking up my child from school. i made it home but it wouldn't start again after that. we had the car towed to the dealership on 8/19/14. we were informed on 8/20/14 that it was an electrical issue that needed to be replaced costing $1300. the items repaired as listed on the invoice were tipm kit tip 080350 and core return. *tr
