Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Highway driving......vehicle shuts off......no warning......no idiot lights.....no brakes......happened twice......two different chrysler dealers say there is nothing wrong......new york times article says that chrysler is "looking into the problem".....at a high rate of speed i have twice had to muscle the car off the road and drift to a stop in order to apply the brake to restart the engine.....i hope i don't become a statistic....... *tr

On august 14, 2014 my 2011 jeep grand cherokee would not start. over the next two weeks the starting issued got continually worse. the day i took it into the shop to have looked at it took 8 to 12 times to start. the vehicle will crank but not start. the technician performed diagnostic testing and found no fuel pressure when not starting. technician found fuel pump not being turned on when key is turned. technician installed a relay overlay harness for tipm circuit. diagnosis - faulty tipm. *tr

My 2011 jeep grand cherokee with only 42,000 miles on it is not starting properly. it tries to turn over but sometimes it can take 5 times before i can get it to start. i have read online many other jeep owners are having this issue and it is related to the tipm. please investigate. thank you. *tr

Stalled on the road while driving. trouble cranking the vehicle car alarm going off unprovoked rear door locks stopped working. *tr

We purchased our 2011 jeep grand cherokee brand new in august 2010. over the course of the last year there were moments when the vehicle was hard to start. in the last two weeks the hard starting only occurred the initial start of the day. subsequently, august 31st - september 5th the hard start occurred at every start through out the day. i no longer felt comfortable driving it anywhere feeling like i would be stranded somewhere. the car is currently at the dealership with a new tipm being installed at a cost of $1000 for the part and another $411 in labor and tax. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic), 14v530000 (electrical system), and 14v391000 (electrical system) however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the vin was not available. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Vehicle was traveling on highway at 55 mph when it suddenly stalled in traffic. could not restart after pushing to side of road. towed to dealer and told that total integrated power module had failed and needed to be replaced. *tr

On saturday morning after pulling out of a parking space my car stalled and lost power steering. i put it in park and restarted engine it was fine. went to other store, parked it and the same thing happened once i returned to leave. when i got home i shut off the ignition switch and after app. 8 seconds i heard a sound coming from behind the fuse box area or at least behind that area . sounded electrical "vooop, vooop" i also noticed when going up an incline around 30 mph the car had a huge delay, i had to push the gas pedal practically to the floor, and than it kicked in and zoomed off. i felt like i was loosing power and than the car took off on its own! crazy feeling!!! i feel as though the computer that is in charge of the car is out of wrack and the car has become inconsistent to drive because of what could occur next. i also lost brakes this winter while driving due to brake booster failure which eventually became a recall. i was scared then and i'm afraid this incident may result in something bigger and worse. :( *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the engine stalled. the contact mentioned that the key had to be turned numerous times before the engine restarted. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the integrated power module was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.

Will not start 10 to 15 times before it would start. they put some kind of bypass relay in it.i think there might be something wrong with tipm so they bypass part of it with this relay. *tr

The car will not start. the car will crank as if it is about to start and then will not start. after some time, it may start and then appears like fuel was not getting to the engine and then stall. then when i try to start it again, it would not start. my mechanic tells me it is the tipm. complaints with the tipm for the 2011 jeep grand cherokee is a well known issue. feel free to look it up on various online forums. even the service departments at the jeep dealership knows that tipm is a common issue with the car. please initiate a recall of the 2011 jeep grand cherokee for this problem. the tipm controls the power / switching / communications amongst various parts of the car. it is extremely dangerous for anybody to drive this car with a faulty tipm. thank you. *tr

Several attempts were made throughout the day to start my 2011 grand jeep cherokee and it would not start, only a clicking noise. i took it to the dealer immediately and the tipm is bad and needs to be replaced. obviously, my car is only 3 years old and not under warranty now. the part alone is over $900.00, which seems questionable that something would go bad so quickly on a vehicle and cost so much to repair. besides the cost, there are so many complaints for the same issue, and even more serious with the engine cutting off while driving. is someone going to recall this item before someone gets hurt or even killed????? i purchased this vehicle, and all my previous chrysler/jeep vehicles thinking they were safe for my family; now i'm not so sure. do the right thing and recall the tipm! in addition, i have made several attempts to get the brake booster repaired due to the recall and the parts are still not in. this has been going on for months now. *tr

Our jeep requires the totally integrated power module (tipm) to be replaced. this system starts the car. it is extremely unsafe for a motorist to be stranded without the vehicle being able to start. *tr

The tipa is defective and the fuel pump won't turn on, therefore my car is unable to start. i have to pay $1300 to repair this as the car is now out of warranty. i have done research and learning this is an extremely common defect in the jeeps. *tr

About a month ago, my jeep had problems starting. when pushing the start button, it would just turn over and over but fail to fire up. shut it off, wait, restart the process is the only way to finally get it to start. the problem now has progressed to almost every time and 5-6 x to finally start. i know this site wants me to log each incident separately, but i'd be doing that 5x a day...ugh! not looking forward to a $1200+ repair for a known issue! may be my last jeep if they don't fix it! i have been told it's a faulty tipm, that it's a known issue, yet it am still responsible for the repair. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and was able to restart. the contact also stated that the vehicle hesitated to start. the failure occurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (electrical system) but the dealer informed that the part was not available. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

I started having issues with my 2011 jeep grand cherokee in late july/ early august where the vehicle would have issues starting. i replaced the batteries in the key fob, but it didn't solve the problem. i took it into the dealership as the problems had continued and increased. i informed them that i had read about the issues with the tipm, but they disregarded my concern and told me that the computer was not reading the keys and i needed to order new ones, which i did. not even a week later, i brought it back to the dealership as it was giving me the same problems of not starting. he said that they would not be able to do anything if i could not recreate it, so i kept driving it knowing that it may or may not start. yesterday, 10/28 the fuel pump would not turn off and caused the battery to drain. i had to call roadside assistance and took it to the dealership the following morning as the problem was still occurring. today they told me that it was indeed the tipm that was faulty and that it needed to be replaced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the entire drive train needed to be replaced. the contact also stated that the gear was in drive position, but began to reverse while the gear was still in the drive position. the vehicle was constantly stuck in eco mode. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and repaired several times. the failure was persistent. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

I have a 2011 jeep grand cherokee limited with approximately 32k miles. i began seeing an issue several weeks ago where the engine would crank but wouldn't start (using push button starter). eventually it would start. over the last several weeks the problem has intermittently reappeared but seems to be getting worse as it's taking longer to start once the issue is seen. i've noticed that if i use the key instead of the push button it'll start right away. in what i initially thought was unrelated i also experienced the engine simply cutting off while driving. fortunately i was only driving about 5 mph on both occasions in which this occurred. please contact me if any additional details are required. thank you, *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the engine would stall. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. also, the instrument panel warning indicators intermittently illuminated. the dealer stated that the tipm unit was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

The jeep would not start on the first try. it either cranks and cranks and never turns over, or it turns over but never reaches a good idle state and just shuts off. after a few attempts, it would finally start and be ok until the next time i leave it alone for an extended period. i believe the symptoms i am experiencing are the same as those that have been reporting a problem with the tipm, which seems to be a very pricey item that jeep (chrysler) knows is faulty and have done nothing about. not to mention that it is also an item that is on national back order with a class action lawsuit filed as well. *tr

May 2014 jeep cherokee, (55,000 miles) wouldn't start when button pushed. problem was intermittent with increasing frequency until repair in july 2014. replaced timp at cost of $1201.96. *tr

When trying to start my jeep on friday 7/25 i found that when i push the start button the vehicle would not turn over. it would engage and attempt to turn over but would not start. i tested the battery and it read to be normal and upon further review i found many other consumers had the same problem, the vehicle would randomly not start. this happens to me about once a month since we purchased it in march of 2014. i've read from others there is an issue with the tipm which will cause the vehicle to not start or completely stall out while driving which did occur one time to me in june on a trip from ohio to maryland! *js

I've been researching online of similar problems and it all point to the (tipm). my car does not start, and when it starts, it stalls right away. the truck even stalled while running, luckily i was going less than 35 mph with very little traffic, i could only imagine if this could have happened while i was driving on the freeway going like 60 mph. i drive with my wife, 2 children and a newborn and do not want to put their lives at risk because of this issue going on for a while and nobody seems to do anything about this. now for some reason something is draining my battery, i already replaced 2 new batteries and the problem still persists. i cant take it to the dealer because its out of warranty and it seems to be too expensive to fix, and im someone that lives by every paycheck and still barely affords to pay this truck with a very serious issue. this really needs to get reported to chrysler jeep and needs to immediately be put on recall. my wife does not want to get on the jeep grand cherokee anymore due to all of these issues and complaints going on. i just don't know who to go to. *tr

Bad tipm, no voltage to fuel pump car wont start, car stalls on road. not sure if air bags will work. *tr

The engine will crank but will not turnover. it appears that it is not getting fuel. after research on the internet, we identified the tipm issue. i tested the fuel pump relay and it is not reliably sending power to the fuel pump. the relay cannot be individually replaced, the whole tipm needs to be rebuilt or replaced. *tr

My wife was driving the vehicle across a busy intersection, an intersection where 2 lanes merge into one on the far side. she was in the through lane, the left lane. our vehicle lost all engine power. cars were merging from the right and no one could comprehend that our vehicle was in a failure mode. with engine not running, and bells ringing which no idea why the bells, the power-steering was inoperative and the brakes were very ineffective. she was trying to get the vehicle off to the side of the road, without hitting anyone or being hit. somehow, she avoided an accident. she's a very small in stature person and it took all she had to steer and stop this 5200 pound jeep. after letting the jeep sit, it started up after multiple attempts and we went directly to the jeep dealership. they plugged in a code-reader, found no codes, and sent us on our way. they would not provide us with a repair work order so we have no paper work. they know what's wrong but are avoiding the issue. it's the tipm! this issue has continued to occur and the fuel pump isn't running when in the failure mode. sometimes the horn blows by itself! we've had the wipers not function and the window not roll up. the vehicle is haunted. what does it take for a recall nhtsa? *tr

Tipm computer board/module defect...known defect to the manufacturer (poor part product with high chance of failure). jeep stalled out on road several times with kids in car...part is on a national backorder and still no recall for owners. *tr

Jeep gc2011 stalls whiling driving. ongoing since 2012; mechanics have done a lot of service and repair very costly out of my pocket expences but has not fixed the stalling. says it maybe the alternator, throttle or ignition problem. the 2011 model should be included in the chrysler recall #t36 (nhtsa #17v435).

Difficulty to start the vehicle and is related with the tipm. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that it took multiple attempts to get the vehicle to start. the dealer stated that the total integrated control module failed. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 57,000.

Failure of the tipm. *tr

Chrysler is still not making this part available to dealers so that it can be installed. this part can fail without warning and cause the engine to stall while in motion. my dealer is ready and willing to replace this relay, but it is not yet in production. *tr

Problem started a few months ago with my 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle wouldn't start with the push button nor the key. the problem progressively got worse to the point of taking up to ten minutes to crank the jeep. would turn the ignition to "run" for several minutes before the vehicle would start. once the repair shop located the source of the problem, the jeep wouldn't crank at all. had to replace the tipm to the tune of $1200.00 and two weeks in the repair shop. *tr

Car made grinding sound when starting. wouldn't start. tipm failed causing fuel pump to burn out . also had to replace ignition switch. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v391000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Car was shut off, locked and parked in motel parking lot. 45 minutes later, call was made to room that it had rolled across lot, down a hill and crashed into a tanker truck which was refueling @ a gas station. car was running and in drive. i am doubly sure car had been shut off, placed in park, and locked securely. weather had been extremely hot that day (+100 degrees). *tr

Vehicle began experiencing sporadic and intermittent hard crank starts as well as partial stalling while traveling. when placing the key/push button to the "on" position, the fuel pump would engage, but was quickly followed by a "click" noise, which shutoff the fuel pump. eventually, after 6-12 attempts, the fuel pump would engage long enough to allow the vehicle to start. while traveling, rpms would suddenly drop, typically while braking/slowing from traveling. after progressively getting worse and more consistent, vehicle taken to dealership. initial diagnosis was a failing fuel pump. upon further investigation, it was determined that the electrical relay to the fuel pump, a part of the tipm, was shorting and prematurely failing. a bypass relay was re-wired and seems to have corrected the problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received a notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (electrical system); however, the part was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the delay. the contact had not experienced a failure. the vin was unavailable.

A chrysler jeep and dodge dealership in orlando replaced the factory installed tipm in my 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland with 58,000 miles today at a cost to me of $1230. the tipm controls and distributes power to all of the electrical functions of the vehicle. they had one in stock, and after a little research online i discovered a widespread issue with many other 2011 grand cherokees. many of the other complaints cite faulty tipm devices failing while the car was traveling in excess of 65 mph causing the car to come to a sudden stop. others mention lights failing and other electrical failures. there are thousands of similar complaints that i've easily found online. i'm writing to ask you to please initiate a recall or some initiative that will reimburse consumers that unknowingly purchased vehicles with a faulty tipm. the 2011 grand cherokee overland owners have been wronged. *tr

Problem starting the jeep the tipm mal-functioning. not able to start the car on a regular. seeing many other people complaining about the same problem. *tr

Faulty tipm (totally integrated power module) caused the car to not start and/or stall after it was started. *tr

Vehicle does not crank, cranks but suddenly loses power, shutsoff losing power brakes, power steering and control. *tr

Vehicle would not start; repeated attempts to start vehicle (5 times) and no success - vehicle started on the 6th attempt. this problem has reoccurred several times since the initial problem. the vehicle will be taken to the dealer on 07/07/2014. *js

The car will stall/won't turnover when you go to start it. *tr

The alternator failed and the tipm also. there is no charging light in the dash so it was impossible to know there were a problem since the battery was dead and the engine stall. after that, there were no light, no power brake and the car won't start anymore. even after replacing the alternator ( which is cost 1000 each.) the alternator do not charge because the tipm failed too. overall, it cost 2200$ to repair and i lost my car for 4 weeks ! *tr

Vehicle began presenting with grinding noise upon start up (similar noise to turning the key in older vehicle once engine was running). brought to dealer's attention at time of service - dealer could not duplicate grinding noise. within a few weeks, vehicle began taking more than 1 attempt to turn engine over (sometimes up to 4-5 attempts), including prolonged engagement of starter motor. if multiple attempts, noticed rich fuel smell. mentioned to dealer at time of next scheduled service - dealer could not duplicate starting problems over the course of 2 days in their care. dealer said to wait for more frequent occurrences to begin then they would check again. starting issues were intermittent and continued to occur until last week, where after "hard start," vehicle engine stalled while in reverse pulling out of parking spot (<5 mph); however, power to lights and radio remained on; steering locked up, and had to push vehicle to safe spot. took 2 starts to get engine running again. next day, after 4 failed starting attempts (5th successful), had battery tested and replaced day after thinking it could be part of problem (starter and alternator tested fine). the day after battery replacement, vehicle produced what sounded like abnormal start, then engine stalled while in motion under 5 miles per hour. based on evidence and prior reports, faulty tipm is suspect. we are fortunate that both stalls occurred under 5 mph; it is only a matter of time before this happens at highway speeds. hoping the nhtsa will force chrysler's hand into opening formal investigation into faulty electrical systems in vehicles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notifications for nhtsa campaign number: 14v391000 (electrical system), nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (fuel system), and nhtsa campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). however, the parts needed were unavailable. the contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Vehicle will stall at any speed without any prior warning causing loss of steering and braking. the vehicle has to come to a complete stop to be started as it is a push button start and it has to be in park with foot on brake. started a case number with jeep, took it to several jeep authorized service facilities and they could not diagnose the problem. the vehicle had a tipm (totally integrated power module) replaced at about 80,000 miles. should have been recalled, was not. jeep closed the case telling us there was nothing they could do for us as they could not diagnose the problem. this vehicle has had numerous electrical issues documented starting when it only had 50 miles on it. this vehicle is not safe to drive. *tr
