Dash started flashing and beeping and lost power. had to have it towed home that cost$471.30. talked to mopar they gave me dealership information said they could get me a tow and loaner car. i called jeep dealership in rapid city, sd they said they "wont come get it or give me a loaner car but the bring it by anytime this weak because they usually are not doing anything."so now im and hour away with no way to work and no way to get jeep to rapid because of first tow bill.. the malfunctioning part has been recalled on my 2008 jeep grand cherokee.
Vehicle has randomly shut down completely while driving. loss of power, power steering and brakes. very dangerous. took to dealer and left for a week for them to test and replicate and repair. they said they were unable to. this has happened 3 times. each time, so far, i have been able to coast to a stop out of traffic, but i fear that it may happen in a less fortunate setting. it happened again today, just driving straight ahead down the road. check engine light comes on and a red lighting bolt light also comes on over on the right side of the instrument panel.
Sometimes when the auto engine shut off feature is enabled. when releasing the brake the car fails to restart. to get the car restarted the vehicle must powered completely off and restarted. this has happened when attempting to turn on to busy streets where it could have been catastrophic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 60 mph, an abnormal chiming noise was heard and the battery indicator flashed on the instrument cluster. the vehicle stalled and the key failed to release from the ignition. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the battery was checked. the vehicle was towed to a local dealer (capital chrysler jeep dodge ram, 200 waterfield ridge pl, garner, nc 27529). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and did not assist. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 125,000.
Vehicle intermittently loses all power while driving, the cel and etc lights go on loss of power steering and power brakes. after engine is shut down and restarted the cel and etc remain on but car has power to drive. often times after sitting off for period of time the lights may be off but car may shut down again after driving a short , sometimes long, distance. this is a known problem with the mercedes-benz 3.0 crd engine in this model jeep. chrysler refuses to acknowledge the problem.
Jeep stalls while driving down the road and will not restart unless the key is removed then put back in and turned on. it happens in drive on any road way. turning, in park, and in reverse. has happened at highway speeds of 70 mph. this has happened many times.
The ignition switch have problem sometime pup out by self. and air bag light it's on and beep to much.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled in the middle of traffic. the starter made an abnormal clicking sound while the contact attemped to restart the vehicle. the contact made four attempts, but the vehicle failed to start. additionally, the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was then taken to galeana chrysler dodge jeep ram (14375 s tamiami trail, fort myers, fl 33912, (239) 481-2600) where the starter was replaced, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 159,208. the vin was not available.
Bought used 2008 jeep grand cherokee. it stalls for no reason. twice i thought it was because of cold weather but 2 days ago it stalled on a warm day in thick traffic and had a very hard time getting to a parking lot, due to no steering, etc. talked to mechanic twice about problem and they can not figure it out. chatted with jeep corporation on their chat line. they only suggested that i go to jeep dealer (really expensive) and if there are any repairs, keep a receipt in case there is a recall on the problem - a problem which has occurred with several of their other car models.
The vehicle fails to start unexpectedly. the condition appears to be intermittant occurs without warning, and can result in serious and dangerous consequences for the motorist, should the inability to re-start the vehicle occur when located in a remote area where help is not available. there have been and continue to be complaints by owners of this vehicle and similar year jeeps posted throughout the internet on related various forums. the general implication is that chrysler is aware of the problem but for some reason is not able to offer a solution. this has caused undue burden on the consumer, in addition to costs associated with ineffective repairs whether performed by certified chrysler dealer repair stations or independent repair entities. stories of motorists being stranded and subjected to insecure situations or forced to leave their vehicles and finding alternative means of getting home or to a safe place are not uncommon. i urge the nhtsa to investigate how extensive this issue of failing jeep ignition systems is, and to force chrysler/fiat corporation to initiate a recall to fix this problem once and for all.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. after pulling off the road and restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 101,000.
While driving at freeway speeds (approximately 75mph) the vehicle intermittently stalled several times and twice in 1-hr it completely shutdown. the motor lost all power. it requires a complete restart of the vehicle. the key must be turned to the off position and restarted. it has done this several times before. it seams to happen under a load or while accelerating or pulling a hill. it has happened in high traffic circumstances and has at times been difficult and dangerous to pull to the side of the road. i've taken it to jeep to have it repaired. they apparently have a star case number s1218000003 in which they say to change the spark plugs. this seems like a dangerous situation to put consumers in.
I was driving 15 to 20 minutes from home and my check engine came on. i immediately took it to my local gas station (25 yrs relationship) and the car stalled while close to the station losing all steering power. the owner took a look and said give me 24hrs to diagnose. the next day he showed me what happened....the water-pump internal bearing has broken causing the shaft to move back and forth causing the internal water-pump flywheel to break apart. this caused the water pump to dump all the coolant on the ground within 15 to 20 minutes. final diagnosis was the engine seized due to lack of coolant pumping thru the engine. a new engine was the only solution. i can understand the water-pump having minor leaks with gradual leakage ...this would have been caught by the puddles under the engine but not the rapid drainage i experienced. i reach out to jeep hotline.... told the story and was willing to provide photos and physical parts for their qa and rd department to evaluate for design flaw. they were not interested and told me sorry out of warranty...and gave me no support or directions to send photos or physical parts. i'm concerned about other drivers who may experience this situation where death and injury may occur. i tried to attach 5 photo below...let me know if all 5 came thru. thanks for your support. remember all the failure was inside the sealed water-pump so corrosion and potential external rust issue was not a factor. thanks in advance .......[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

When stationary the car often does not start, jiggling around battery will sometimes start, also when in motion the car has stalled, this occurred in busy city road. we have been to the dealers service shops to receive recall fix and inspections 3 times and they say nothing is wrong
My 2008 grand cherokee will not start at all. dash light up but will not turn over. battery in new. starter tested and ok. win recall was performed. 4wd software updates were performed. over the past year the vehicle has had multiple no start/no crank issues. after few hours or days, it will turn over. vehicles is always parked/not moving when this occurs. the dealer wants me to pay out of pocket for the tow for a diagnostic test. if the test does not show anything, i pay another $120 for the diag and have to pay for tow elsewhere. jeep customer service is useless. i pay monthly payment and insurance for a driveway ornament.
Car randomly shuts off for unknown reason. so far only while stationary in traffic .idle rpms drop suddenly causing car to stall. vehicle can be restarted no lights or code indications .has occurred 3 times over 3 months dealer cleaned fuel system. problem still exists

I was traveling on montrose parkway in rockville, md. i was traveling at about 45mph. i approached a slight bend to the left that had a slight decline. i lost control on debris that was left over from an accident earlier that morning. i struck and went over the curb with the right side of my vehicle. i went head on into a steel light post incased in a concert footer. the vehicle sustained very extensive damage to the front end. the airbags did not deploy during the collision. this is a very major concern to me because this could have turned out way worse, but i was very, very lucky to be able to only sustain bruising. this vehicle was a total loss.
The vehicle shuts off for no apparent reason with no warning. it has happened multiple times. sometimes while in reverse ,sometimes while in drive and sometimes while moving from reverse to drive. it has happened at low speeds and at speeds up to 30 mph. sometimes the vehicle won't let you shift to park to restart it. there are no indicator lights when it happens. very scary as its happening more frequently. it has happened in dry and wet conditions, on residential and city streets. all indications are that ithe cause is the same as other fiat chrysler recalls fir the 2008 grand cherokee though ours is not on a recall list.
For several months my vehicle has been shutting off while i am driving due to the key fob popping out of place. i went to the dealer in january 2015 and was told the part is not ready and to call for an update. i have called and been back several times only to be placed on a waiting list. i have been contacting them and getting the same response the part is not available. on 9/16/2015 while operating the vehicle i noticed the navigation/radio console start to pixilate and become inoperable then the console blacked out, after that the entire dash board lit up and i received several system warnings (service gauges, park assist disabled, check sensors, service suspension, my engine light and wipers came on, i was unable to signal, use my lights or turn off the wipers) all of this happened while i was driving. i made a right turn into the parking lot out of fear at this time i heard the key fob pop back and the car completely powered down and i was unable to break because the brakes locked up. the parking lot was semi-empty so i was able to maneuver until is rolled to a stop. i thought i was going to die. i need a resolution now, i still have two years worth of payments left and i want this problem resolved.
9/1/15 at approximately 8:20 p.m. unintended change in ignition switch to the off position resulting in engine shutdown, electrical and power steering completely shutdown/lock. collision averted by pulling resting 45 degree angle against the curb. engine restarted thereafter. t/c to another dealership (this time downtown los angeles) and i am glad to report an appointment for this coming friday, 9/4/15.
Went to get in my car to go to work and it wouldn't start. i assumed it was just a battery. so i called aaa to jump me. he advised that your key should not wiggle when in the ignition. he was 90% sure that was the cause for my battery issue. he jumped me so i could get to the garage to have it tested to see if it was a battery or another issue because he didn't want to replace battery if that is the issue because it would drain it again. i went .8 of a mile and was stopped in traffic and all the lights started flashing on the dash and it went dead. called again to get jumped. i went 5 feet and it staled out again. he had me towed to dealership because he thinks it is part of the recall. went to dealership, they couldn't give me a loaner and told me if part of recall it would take 3-4 weeks to get the part. i don't have another car. next day called on it and eventually was advised that it was the ignition recall but i had to pay for the battery. i don't feel i should have to pay for that because it was drained because of the product recall. next day- drove 15 miles and the check engine light came on. took it back and the dealership doesn't know what is wrong. i didn't get the notice of recall until 08/24/15 at 3:00 in the mail. it was released in 2014, why am i just getting it now. i could have been killed in it because of this recall. if i would have been on the highway and it just stopped, i would have been killed. there is something majorly wrong with these jeeps and the way people send out these recalls.

Key fob looses contact with ignition
Chrysler has a recall for my 2008 jeep grand cherokee for the ignition switch p57/nhtsa 14v-567. the part is not available to repair my vehicle and they do not have an estimated or actual date this part will be in. chrysler refuses to accommodate the customers with a loaner vehicle. why is chrysler not accountable for my car troubles after the recall (which i never received a recall notice)? the government fined chrysler 70 million dollars and will fine additional monies if the vehicles are not repaired. why am i suffering and not being accommodated with a working vehicle when the billion dollar industry (chrysler) has a mishap? my experience: - when vehicle ignition is turned off it only goes the way, the key fob sticks and will not exit. this causes the radio clock light and the gear shift panel to stay lit, which in turn drains the battery. (had to purchase a jump start kit $70.00 + tax) for when the battery is dead. -since, the key will not exit the ignition i must leave my work area at least twice a day (sometimes more) to check, if the key fob will come out. once it took 11 hours before key would exit, after running the engine for over 3 hours. i am in jeopardy of losing my livelihood if this issue continues for much longer. it has been going on for months. the recall started november, 2014. how long will i suffer, because i dont have money to purchase a different vehicle and why does this always affect the most unfortunate individuals like me. -there is a 90% chance that my vehicle will be stolen (since key is left in the ignition). i work in durham, nc on the week-end; i pray that i will be able to get back to raleigh if this happens. i cry most nights in fear of losing my jobs. please, help me!!!!!!
The vehicle has shut off randomly with key in on position, once happening while driving. dealer states there is no open recall on this and to remove key rings from keys. only thing inserted at time of issue is key fob removed from emergency access key so not a key weight issue, driver is short so knee can not contact at all. *tr

I was notified of a recall dated 11/10/14, number 957 nhtsa 14v-567. i was advised the part required was not available. i have looked this recall up on your website and the status states that no remedy is available, seven months later! according to the recall notice, this could "increase the risk of crash under certain driving conditions", "this could increase the risk of vehicle occupant injury during a crash". therefore, apparently i, occupants of my car, and others are in danger. i need to request immediate attention to this long overdue recall. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *jb

My vehicle shut off going over a bump in the road. my vehicle has done this on numerous occasions, twice in the middle of intersections and once on a railroad track. i was sent an important safety recall notice from chrysler (notification code p57) approximately 3 months ago and have not heard anything since then and this issue has progressively got worse over the last several months. i did contact the local chrysler dealership and they had no information to provide and i also had my vehicle in to be serviced for this issue about one year ago with no issue identified by riverside auto group in marinette, wi. i also called chrysler at 800-853-1403 and they had no update on this issue or any idea when this recall would occur to fix this issue. i cannot afford to purchase a different vehicle and this issue has become a safety concern for me and my family. what recourse do i have here? am i expected to continue driving a vehicle with serious safety issues with the ignition switch just because chrysler is not addressing this issue in a timely fashion? does the nhtsa have any other recourse i can take on this? i am certain i am not alone with this issue and i would hate to see someone get hurt or killed, because of the lack of prioritizing by chrysler. *tr
Incident 1 (9/23/2014): driving at 25mph in a straight line when there was a loud "clunk" sound and the engine shut down with several dashboard warning lights lit. loss of power steering and power braking. was able to pull vehicle to a side street and come to a complete stop. upon placing the vehicle in park and turning the ignition to the off position, was able to restart the vehicle and resume trip. no dashboard warning lights remained lit, no other issues driving. incident 2 (9/30/2014): driving less than 5mph in a parking lot. vehicle stalled without loud clunk with several dashboard warning lights lit. loss of power and power braking. was able to put vehicle in neutral and cycle the engine off and on to restart. vehicle resumed normally with no dashboard warning lights lit. purchased vehicle used on 9/18/2014, so unsure if this has been a recurring problem. *tr
Vehicle has had a history of unresolved electrical issues beginning at the time of purchase. in 2009, the ignition switch began to fail and the key fob was replaced. due to a vin number issue with a replacement program, chrysler refused to replace the key assemblies though they were replacing identical assemblies on other vehicles that used the same modules. several "reprogramming" have been conducted to clear problems. specific issues include: 1. erratic behavior of electrical system that stems from the operation of the ignition switch. for example the engine will start but the vehicle will be impossible to shift out of park and the radio/navigation will not work until you jiggle the ignition switch and key fob. 2. chronic failure of the electronic throttle. you can be driving along at any speed and you will lose throttle control. this has caused several near miss accidents. the problem is acknowledged by a check engine light and lighting of an specific idiot light on the dash. however, the lack of throttle response is very dangerous and can be restored by only stopping the vehicle and shutting down the engine several times to reset the electronics. 3. chronic failure of the dealership to address proper correction of the electrical problems. vehicle was covered by a full warranty and an extended warranty but these problems were never repaired. due to sporadic and random nature of the systems faults, the dealership refuses to make repairs. 4. dealerships unable to clear check engine light and blame issues on the fact this unit has a diesel engine. local waterway car wash is refusing to wash these vehicles due to rapid and unattended acceleration issues which have caused accidents at their car washes. this problem can be documented by calling them by telephone. they consider the vehicles to be a safety risk. please help! *tr
When driving my 2008 jeep with only 40,000 miles my car stalled out. the car completely turned off disabling breaking, steering and making my gears unable to move. the car continued to drive leaving me helpless in stopping this moving vehicle. i finally had to with a my strength punch the gear into park where my car then finally stopped moving. i was only going 20 mph but imagine what could of occurred if i was on a highway, this letter which have a much different tone. i tried calling jeep to explain what occurred not only because i felt their car failed and they should pay for my expenses on their failed part, but also to note it for a recall. i have researched and see that i am not the only one that has experienced this occurring with this jeep. this is very dangerous and there should be immediate recalls so no one gets hurts as this is a very serious problem and i am lucky my outcome did not end in a worse way! *tr

My vehicle kept stalling like it was running out of gas and i took it to the jeep dealer. they kept my car for a week and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it.they told me it might be a fuel pump issue but they weren't positive so they asked me to pick up my car and keep a log. the second time it happened i took it back to the dealer and they kept my car for 5 weeks and couldn't replicate the issue. the customer service was awful. they basically told me they didn't know what was wrong and asked me to pick up my car. i picked my car up and the first day i drove it to work it left me stranded on the highway. the car started stalling out and i couldn't maintain my speed on the highway. i had the gas pushed all the way down and i was barely able to get up to 45 mph on a 65 mph highway. i had it towed to a different jeep dealer which said it was the transmission which i had to pay to have fixed but i think it was related to the fuel pump issue and the transmission blowing up was a result of that not being fixed. the car is starting to have a knocking sound when i drive it again and i'm not convinced i won't be stranded on the side of the road again. it's completely unacceptable that when i had a problem with my jeep i take it to the dealer and they don't know what's wrong and can't help me. if they don't know, who is supposed to know?? i feel that my children and i are unsafe in this car. it's unacceptable that a car just stalls out of nowhere on a highway and jeep/chrysler acted like they could care less. like it was my problem and not theirs. they inconvenienced me for over 5 weeks and i still don't have a reliable car that i feel safe to drive. completely unacceptable. is it going to take someone being seriously injured or killed for chrysler to do the right thing? *tr
While driving onto a major roadway with my wife and kids in the vehicle the car just stalled out and i lost all control of the vehicle. luckily there was no other vehicles on the road. i turned the key to off and started the car right up again. i researched this online to find this is a widespread issue and i cannot believe the nhtsa has done nothing after the entire gm scandal with cars shutting off causing several fatalities. *tr

Driving on an onramp to the garden state parkway truck shut off and lost all power to motor.. had to cost to side of highway and try to restart vehicle.. this put me in danger of not only causing a major highway crash leading to injury and death but also had to figure out what is still wrong with this truck.. the only way to start this vehicle is to come to a complete stop.. put it into park... remove the key fob ... re insert key fob and truck starts right back up... since 2008 i have filled reports of this exact problem happening.. and no fix has come from jeep or a recall forcing action of these jeep grand cherokees.. in researching this problem i have found this has been a common problem in the jeep grand cherokee line going back to 2007 and still you or chrysler corporation has not taken action. please my life as well as others driving on the road could be saved be a recall to address this very serious issue ... i ask you will it take me death or the death of others to get a response from some one.
