Has been happening off and on since purchasing car used about 2 years ago. driving down the road, usually bumpy road, car turns off- dead. have had it fixed twice before. found to be key and ignition switch (april 2013) now doing it again. dealership reported to me similar problem with a dodge caravan. report they cannot figure out what is wrong with it since it is intermittent problem. will do this at various speeds. very random. *tr
While driving on interstate 15 vehicle engine started to shift back and forth. all the sudden engine light appeared and vehicle shut off. i was able to restart the vehicle, but when vehicle reach a certain speed as it decelerate. engine commence to shift back and forth. vehicle speed decelerate and engine light appears. vehicle was diagnosed with a bad camshaft sensor. sensor was replaced but vehicle still decelerating and shutting off while driving. i'm taking vehicle in tomorrow, but pray the fix the problem. only transportation but family safety at risk! *tr

While driving vehicle suddenly stalled wouldn't restart for several tries then finally did. never stalled again until recently. sometimes it starts in neutral other times it has to be put in park. upon restart vehicle drives as if nothing has ever happened. it now stalls at idle or when accelerating or even while driving at a steady rate of speed. i have been paying close attention to the key position and it seems normal in the on position and doesn't seem to be the reason behind this erratic stall situation. numerous accounts of similar situations have been noted here and on other websites. i keep my vehicle well maintained and tuned, it runs great. many times weeks or months go by without any stalls. *tr
While driving the vehicle on the hwy all the interior lights on the dashboard flickered on, and then the car lost power. has happened multiple times since the, and we haven't driven it in 3 months. chrysler sent us a recall notice last year, but still has not manufactured a part to replace this safety recall. recall # p57 / nhtsa 14v-567. since this problem started i have wasted time and money trying to have it repaired..... and it keeps on happening. jeep dealers should issue loaner cars, until they have a part to fix this. *tr
Have had nothing but problems with this jeep. purchased it as a certified pre-owned and it has been in the dealer for service a substantial amount. main issue is the car does not start when i turn the key fob. have got towed to the dealership three times with this same issue, once in may 2014, again in july 2014 and again in september 2014. dealer cannot find solution to fix. coincidentally, i receive a notice from chrysler in november 2014, notice number p57 which states there is a recall on the ignition! i went for (3) weeks in may and a full month in july with a loaner! four months after i receive the recall notice, the problem is not fixed. my ''ad hoc'' solution when car does not start is to slam the door with the key in the ignition position. this seems to start the car. pitiful that this is how i must start the car now as there seems to be nothing else i can do... *tr
While driving on the road normally no noises, vehicle went to a complete stop. i wouldn't start. we try starting it, dead starter and battery. bought a new starter and new battery engine does not turn at all. engine completely stiff. went to the shop, we try to turn the engine by hand; completely stiff. the dealer in port au prince, haiti (safari motors) has many jeep cherokee with the same issue they don't even know what to do and clients are frustrated, very disappointed with the dealer and also mopar of america. they will not help anyone with a known issue this vehicle has all around the world. *tr
I have previously entered a similar complaint for this same vehicle. the issue is that the vehicle stalls/shuts off for no reason while driving. chrysler is unable to provide a reliable fix. this began in may 2012 - my vehicle simply shut off while driving in any number of conditions whether it be on the highway, side roads, etc. i removed all excess keys from my key ring to ensure that it was not the key being too heavy. brought this in to my dealership, they replaced the win control module but couldn't guarantee that this would fix the problem. vehicle stalled once while driving unexpectedly about 9 months later. then vehicle stopped twice in october 2013. at that time i brought the vehicle to another dealership. they at first wanted to replace the win module. when i told them that was the fix from before and it didn't work, they advised that the front control module be replaced, as there was a recall on this but my vehicle was one day past the date of manufacturing impact in the recall, but was having the same exact issue. replaced front control module in october 2013. vehicle stopped unexpectedly while driving again twice in march 2014 - on march 20th and march 21st. vehicle is back at the dealer where they again want to replace the win module. again, this fix was provided previously and did not fix the car. either the wins being produced by chyrsler are all faulty and i somehow have gotten 2 in a row or there is an underlying issue that cannot be found or addressed. this issue is very prevalent with 2008 grand cherokees. chrysler is sitting on a very dangerous issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 35 mph, there was a sudden increase in engine rpms. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 141,000.
The vehicle has two chronic problems, the most severe of which is that it suddenly shifts into neutral while being driven, resulting in a sudden & dangerous loss of acceleration and maneuverability . recovery action requires pulling off the road to shut off and re-start the engine. this problem has occurred at least twenty times, usually in damp or rainy weather conditions. two different jeep dealers have been unable to diagnose or fix the problem! one dealer thought replacing a module for about $900 would solve the issue but it did not. the other chronic problem is that the car sometimes will not start for no apparent reason! *tr
Vehicle engine suddenly stopped on hwy at 70 mph (this is the 3rd time it has happened in the last 9 months). i was able to get the vehicle off the hwy. it started up after coming to a stop. i took the vehicle into the dealership and they informed me that they were aware of this problem (had worked on previous grand cherokees and even had the chrysler engineers out to try and help them). they did inspections on my vehicle for 5 days and said they could not duplicate the problem or find anything out from the vehicle computer. they told me to contact chrysler. i was eventually given to a case manager. they initially said they could not do anything and now they keep delaying getting back to me. this has been 2 weeks with no solution in sight. this is a major safety problem and the vehicle should not be driven without some fixes. i also have a 7 yr/100,000 mile platinum wraparound warranty that should cover whatever is wrong. *tr
All of a sudden one day it was fine and next was terrible shuddering and lunging. checked all fluids and oil was a bit low so filled to proper level. water level was full. when i took to dealership jeep they said i only had one pound of oil pressure and maybe it was lifters. in two week at the jeep dealership i still do not have any answers. engine sounded like it was starving for fuel. had proper fuel in it and was sufficient. terrible knocking and lunging action while driving carefully and slowly. *tr
No 4x4 low ever since i had the n23 recall work performed to reprogram the final drive controller. called chrysler about it and the scheduled an appointment for me at a dealer. dealer said the transfer case actuator motor is fried and needs to be replaced. they also said that the part is back ordered 6-8 weeks because so many people have had this problem after having the n23 recall work performed. chrysler says that the issue is not related to the recall work and they will not cover the repair. i did some of my own research and there are 1000's of other people who ar having the same issue. i've given chrysler many opportunities to address this issue but they refuse to do so. *tr
Jeep stalled in traffic. had to quickly shift to neutral and attempt to restart. has been in the shop probably 7 times for this issue and still hasn't been fixed. *tr

The jeep stalls on the freeway. while driving the jeep on the interstate, it stalled and restarted suddenly. this was felt by a sudden loss of forward momentum. the jeep at times stalls flat at freeway speeds and needs to be stopped to restart. this has been in for repairs since january 2013 and it still stalls. *tr

I was driving the jeep and it accelerated suddenly as if the throttle was stuck. the throttle pedal in fact was not stuck and i had to shift into neutral to get it to stop accelerating. after shifting to neutral, the jeep stalled in the roadway and i ended up driving through my neighbor's yard to avoid pulling out into a busy intersection as i had no brakes or steering. i almost ran over a pedestrian i didn't see walking on the sidewalk. this vehicle has been to dealerships multiple times for stalling at freeway speeds and stalling when driving around town. this has been an ongoing safety concern, especially with the stalling and chrysler is well aware of the problem. most recent chrysler case # is [xxx]. they have replaced multiple things so far and the problem still exists. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

After starting the vehicle it was observed that some of the electrical system, including radio and turn signals were not functioning. electrical eventually came back. this occurred several other times, generally after turning the vehicle off and then re-starting all of the electrical systems came back on. approximately 1-2 weeks after the initial electrical issue the following occurred: while driving in a parking lot at approximately 20 miles per hour the engine suddenly cut out after a "clunk" type of sound. after trying several times to restart, the vehicle did start again and drove normally. vehicle was taken to dealership where code p0688 asd was found. the dealership recommended replacing the asd relay switch. the dealership advised that this relay switch could be the cause of the vehicle dying while driving as well. relay was not replaced as the dealership informed me the part of on national back order. the electrical cut out occurred again on 6/21/2013 but cleared up immediately upon a vehicle restart. on 6/23/2013 while driving on a highway at approximately 60 mph the engine cut out again. the electrical was also out, leaving me with a dead vehicle and no electronics to signal. after several attempts the vehicle was restarted. i believe that possibly the electronic fuel pump was cut out due to the electrical issue. dealership informed me that this part is on national back order, which leads me to question whether there is a larger, unreported issue with this part. if there is not a demand for it, why is it on back order, and if there is a demand, perhaps there is an ongoing issue that chrysler/jeep is not reporting. chrysler is claiming that this switch is not covered under warranty. *tr

The jeep has the 5.7l hemi v8, and stalls at traffic lights, stop signs, or even by driving down the street. i have had stalling issues now for about four months. most of the time it happens when stopped at a light, but it has stalled driving about 35 mph down a street as well. the engine simply cuts out. radio and all other electronics seem to work, but the engine cuts out and has to be restarted. *tr
Car stalls intermittently at 60-70mph. loss of power steering, along with control of the vehicle. vehicle re-starts up immediately after turning "off" and turning back on in park position. this has occurred more than 15 times in 6 months - with 3 near crash incidents. dealer cannot duplicate the issue. currently there are no fault codes indicating a 'manufacturing defect'. no diagnosis after 8 service visits. the issue has been escalated to chrysler executive group. flight-recorder returned no data. *tr

While driving engine shuts off with no indication of why. no stored computer code. engine loses all power and dies. must stop vehicle then shut ignition and restart. truck would start then die .. that happened ten times.. and finally started. gas tank was three quarters filled and weather was good. battery is in good working order with proper voltage and charging system is in working order. this is the third time this has happened since i purchased the vehicle as a new unit. the second time it happened i took it into the dealer and they replaced the computer harness as they said it had a bad connector. but the problem is now back and i feel a loss of control resulting in crash and or death may result. While traveling on the highway at about 70 mph, the engine stalled and shut down. i had to pull over to the side and restart the car to continue. i've had similar issues with this vehicle dozens of times and i fear that one day it will cause an accident when it shuts down on me. the dealer seems to not know what to do about it and i'm scared that i'll get hurt driving the car. *tr
While driving the jeep it dies, we could be driving on the highway at 55/60 miles per hour and the jeep will die, we could be driving locally at 20 miles per hour and the jeep just dies -- we have contacted chrysler many times regarding the problem but nothing is done -- they keep asking us to pay for a diagnostic test but nothing shows up -- when the jeep dies there is no indication that anything is wrong -- no check engine light comes on, just the rpm drops -- we are worried for the safety of our family that while driving on an highway and all of a sudden the jeep dies that someone hits us from behind and causes a major accident or worse -- we have told chrysler we would pay for any work that is not covered under the extended warranty as long as they can fix the problem -- after that statement they have not responded to any further correspondence. *tr
Jeep stalls when traveling. mostly has occurred when you are slowing down for a stop light but did stall once at speed on the west side highway in new york city. this has happened at least 10 times and has been to the dealership 3 times with no fix in sight. the dealership can not find what the problem is. i have called jeep and they have not been any help. this problem is affecting a lot of jeep grand cherokee as it is well written on the internet forums. a quick google search on jeep stall or hemi stall reveals many people with the same exact issue. *tr
Car stalled on the highway going 70mph; this has happened multiple times. i put the car in neutral and fortunately it starts back up. i've taken it to my mechanic and he can't find any problems. *tr
I have had my jeep gc lockup. this happened 8 times since late oct. 2012. the conditions are as follows. the engine stops, i have no control, no brakes or steering. 2 times i was driving one of the two i ran into a post. this put a big dent and scratch on my car. the first time this happened i was in a parking lot. in order for me to get the car stated i had to force the key to move. i called chrysler 3 times. they put me on the rush list. this was over a year or 2 ago. they won' even talk to me anymore. once i was doing 70 mph on the expressway. the engine just stopped and i had no control other than braking, but there was no braking assist. i got a recall letter from chrysler about 2 years ago. and still noting what is going on?
The moving vehicle inadvertently stalls. the stall has mostly occurred on the highway at speeds of 70-75 mph, as well as on-ramps and off-ramps. the frequency of occurrence is approximately (3-4) times per month. when the vehicle stalls i have to quickly put the vehicle in neutral and restart the engine. fortunately the engine restarts immediately and i am able to resume driving. the problem was reported to a local (ri) dealership, who was unable to diagnose a problem/defect. i am apprehensive about driving this vehicle, and i am a police officer with extensive training. i will not allow my wife to operate this vehicle. *tr
The engine stalls intermittently from time to time shutting the car down. it usually happens while coming to a stop or at rest. in september of 2012 it happened on the highway going at 65 mph and i had to bring the vehicle to the curb to restart it. it always restarts easily. i have taken it to the dealer and they can not figure it out. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep grand cherokee diesel. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. after inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that the oil intake tube was leaking oil into the intake air manifold and going into the engine. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact scheduled an appointment to have the intake manifold and the air intake hose replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified who lodged a complaint for the contact and offered to pay for one third of the repair costs. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 106,726.
My jeep turned off while driving on the highway. i had to put the jeep in neutral and restart it. this has happened about 9 or 10 times. it happens randomly and infrequently. not sure what the problem is but it is definitely scary when it happens. also the key fell out of the ignition once, the car remained running. *tr
The first incident was the key getting stuck in the ignition and the dealer replaced an ignition component. after that was replaced on three occasions the engine turned off for now apparent reason. jeep could not determine why and at that point i purchased a new car. i am reporting this now after hearing about the recall for other vehicles which turned off for no reason and had caused injury or death. fortunately i was never in heavy traffic and was able to restart the vehicle. i was advised by jeep to remove any extra keys from the ring but that did not resolve the engine turning off. perhaps there are other jeep owners who have experienced this problem but it was not part of the potential recall. *tr
I started the jeep and traveled normally for about a third of a mile on local streets. the problem started when i turned onto a collector street from a local street applying full throttle. when i lifted my foot off the throttle pedal the jeep kept accelerating. the electronic throttle control warning light went on. i stopped the car by applying the brake and putting the transmission in neutral. the engine continued to rev at about 4000 rpm with the jeep stopped. i turned off the jeep and checked the position of the carpet protector to make sure it was not interfering with the accelerator. it was not in a position where it could overlap the throttle. i also checked the accelerator pedal and found it operating normally in terms of position and action. i turned the engine back on and the jeep reacted normally for the remainder of the trip. dealer not able to replicated but reported error message that both brakes and accelerator were both depressed. also reported that carpet was not involved. *tr *js
Vehicle would die unexpectedly and not restart until transmission was put in park position. several incidents ie stopped at light, acceleration to turnpike, slow street driving this would disable steering and create difficult braking. *tr
My engine has shut down and the electrical system powered down while driving many times (more than 60 times in the last 3 years). this has happened at many speeds between 0 (standing still) and 60 mph. when the vehicle shuts down, steering becomes very difficult and brakes work to a minimum. i've taken my grand cherokee to the jeep agency many times, and they keep saying that nothing is wrong with it. only once they told me it was an oxygen censored, which they changed, but the problem persisted constantly. this is a very dangerous situation as the vehicle can become very difficult to control at which speeds i bought my jeep grand cherokee 2008 in mexico city. *tr

Multiple incidents of unintended change in ignition switch position to the off position, resulting in engine shutdown, electrical and power steering completely shutdown/lock. first occurrence (approximately 2010) was during a left-hand turn, which nearly caused a multiple vehicle accident. constant airbag light warning. multiple other occurrences since then, resulting in multiple calls to dealer and contact to 1800 numbers provided. fac p57/nhtsa 14v-567 important safety recall notice received and dealer again contacted. however, i was advised that the ignition is no longer in production and there is no way of knowing if/when the part will become available. accordingly, no repair/remedy can be made. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Owner of 2008 jeep grand cherokee on a regular basis hear a click and the power shuts off. you find yourself with no power steering, no power brakes, and no lights. this also occurs sometimes when you go over a bump or if your knee touches the key ring. the ignition key and mechanisms was replaced in 2010, and this above problem has been occurring off and on since then. in the past two years the occurrence has increased. the technicians can find nothing wrong in the car. chrysler will not admit that the ignition fob and housing is defective, or that their is any problem. this problem is potentially life threatening if it occurs when there is no place to pull over and if hit, air bags will not deploy when the engine is off. *tr
2008 jeep grand cherokee laredo encountering several problems: the vehicle either won't start or starts then stalls. experienced other problems with complete loss of power while driving on the highway at 60mph. also had loss of blinkers, radio and wipers. the problems have been occurring intermittently since nov, 2009 but becoming more common over last 3 months. current mileage 43k. no codes found on computer for any of the problems. no dash lights when car stalls. it is very scary and certainly a safety issue that needs to be addressed. the earlier recall (h03/ 08v059) is the exact problems but our vehicle is not included in the recall. *tr
