Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have submitted a complaint before but the problem continues and has gotten worse. my jeep loses all electrical power and shuts down and restarts itself while driving, occasionally doesn't accelerate past second gear and other times accelerates very slowly, numerous times dealership told me nothing was wrong, finally they replaced clockspring and motherboard but problem began recurring only days later. only now my jeep is additionally at times acting like it wants to shut down but instead is just faltering shaking the whole vehicle violently accompanied by the struggling to accelerate. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning several times. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available. the dealer did not know when the part would become available. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

While driving down the highway at 65 with the headlights on all of my dash lights lit up and there was no power for a few seconds. this is the first time it has happened since purchasing this vehicle. i have no been able to take my jeep into the shop since i was already at work. i contacted the dealer and they said they have had complaints like this and that they would not be able to read the fault. *tr

I write this only because i just experience my fourth mechanical breakdown in three years. in december 2009, i experienced the first breakdown in what has become a string of malfunctions. the transmission on my 2007 grand cherokee laredo gave out at about 40,000 miles. when trying to start the vehicle, i got a 'transmission overheat' message on the dash display along with the engine malfunction indicator. i took it to the dealership where i purchased it and it took nearly a month for the repair shop to locate, receive and install the necessary parts. apparently supply and demand had something to do with it, indicating to me that this was an issue nationwide. a month later, another malfunction, this time, the electronic shift module (esm) had died. just over a year later, the same component (esm) died again (of course just out of warranty), this time while i was driving along rt. 50 outside of dc. now, less than six months later, with less than 40,000 on the already replaced transmission, my transmission has blown again - same 'transmission overheat' message, same engine malfunction light, same undrivability. clearly from seeing the comments on this forum as well as other reputable sites such as edmunds and consumer reports, the 2007 grand cherokee laredo has a long, long history of mechanical and electronic problems. i have a phone call scheduled with a case worker scheduled for tomorrow, 7/13/2012. they'll either make it right or i'll be taking my story to small claims court. i encourage everyone who's had issues with this model to do the same.

I cannot remember the exact dates 1- vehicle would not start intermittently - throttle control modular replaced 2- vehicle would not start starter replaced 3- all dash warning lights keep going on and off vehicle lost power - engine light stayed on wiring and wiring harness replaced. 4- all warning lights kept going on and off lost power - engine light finally stayed on dealer just reset the computer. 5-all warning light went on lost power again then abs esp traction control lights on - broken wire fixed in the wiring that was replaced. 6-all warning lights just went on again vehicle has 58k miles lost power now abs esp and traction control lights are on. *tr

Numerous electrical issues. the most dangerous have been the prnd lighting up and vehicle not going over 1st or 2nd gear while driving. this has happened to me 7 times now, 4 of which have tried to be diagnosed by the dealer without success, they just replaced the gear shifter twice. the 3rd time i had taken a photo of this and gave it to the dealer when they told me 'nothing was wrong' according to their diagnostics. photo proved otherwise. also the vehicle has shut itself off twice while i was driving on a busy road. the windows also get stuck and will not work. have to operate one window to make the other one work. the battery failed and 'transmission over temp" error happened at the same time. manufacturer's service agent said it was a false readout due to battery failure but they did fix something on the transmission. i am filing for a second lemon law arbitration hearing in florida. it is a very dangerous vehicle with these issues. incident date on this form is only the last date of occurrence since only one option. this has been a problem since first purchasing this 'new' vehicle. *tr

Since the first event the vehicle has stalled at the most importuned time. two years ago it stalled twice while entering the new jersey garden state parkway on the same day. a year ago it stalled at 40 miles per hour traveling north on university blvd 100 ft from the dealer kelly jeep dealership were the vehicle was purchased. i was made aware in july 2014 that there was an ignition key problem. by a local auto body repair shop owner. i remove everything from key except a small lightweight identification plastic tag a month ago it stalled again which turning onto high speed four lange expressway. i have contact a different dealer three months go and was told chrysler is working on the problem. this is a very dangerous situation. i can't believe that in almost a year chrysler still appears to have not inkling of owh to solve the problem prior to the public announcement in sept 2014 i had it to the dealer and was required to have vehicle tested by the analyzer. no problem was found. even though i am 90 years old i still have sufficient strength to get the vehicle to a stop and if possible to the side of the highway in order to restart it. but i am afraid that if this happens with my wife while driving she will not be have sufficient strength to steer of brake the vehicle when it losses complete power. how is this any different than the accidently operation of the ignition key event that has occurred with general motor products. last we i received a recall notice from chrysler regarding the need to re-program the final drive control module (fdcm), that may cause the service $wd light to be activated making it impossible to change gears. i do not see that listed as a recall and i have never received any other notice. his apparently has a higher priority at chrysler than the ignition key issue. regards,

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle shut down consistently without warning. there were no warning lights prior to the failure. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the dealer could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. the failure mileage was approximately 20,000. the current mileage was approximately 30,300.

On five occasions all of dash lights came on and went off while i was driving, two of these times the engine stalled and restarted itself. took vehicle to dealership and was told no problem was found. *tr

No events leading up to problems. electrical wiring failure resulting in loss of tow lights (blown fuses), ignition switch(electronics) replaced x 4 in last 2 years about every 6 mo. unable to start vehicle but have power everywhere else. power windows seem to short/ stall often. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and failed to restart. the failure recurred numerous times and was towed on four separate occasions to the dealer and an independent mechanic. the control module, the starter, and the starter relay were replaced on separate occasions. the contact also mentioned that the keyless remote was reprogrammed. the failure persisted after the repairs were performed. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to perform the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unavailable.

I was driving home from a trip and was two hours from home. i stopped at a fruit stand and when i got back in the vehicle it would not start despite it clearly not being a battery problem. the car was towed to the dealer. this occurred on a saturday. on monday when they inspected the vehicle it started with no problem. they ran a computer diagnostic check and found no faults. i was told to drive the vehicle until it "acted up again". twelve days later it would not start again. i had it towed to the dealer who determined that the starter motor needed to be replaced. i find it amazing that i needed to wait until the car broke down again in order to determine what wrong with the vehicle. clearly there were issues and simply running a computer test was not sufficient. *tr

09/29/2008 jeep taken to garage for head light failure nothing found. 03/09/2012 to 11/07/2012 all indicator light flash exterior lights flash. been to the dealership three times for numerous days at a time they can not find anything wrong still having this problem. really not good when it is dark out and you don't have headlights. at 15,000 and 35,000 i had to have the shift modular replaced because all the car would basically go in to neutral when being driven. i would have to pull over and turn the car off and restart it. the first time it was at the dealership for three days they could not find a problem and sent it home only to have to return 2 days later with the same problem. as i have found many people on line with these same issues makes you wonder first why these issues can't seem to be fixed, second why there has not been a recall. it is truly a miracle that no one i have heard of has been injured or killed because of these defects. when the jeep is working i love it. if i had a hope and a pray of getting a new vehicle i would trade in my paid off jeep in a heart beat so that i wouldn't have to constantly worry that it stop running or that i will be driving blind in the dark. sadly i didn't even touch on the other electrical issues i.e. window that had to be fixed remote keyless issues it is sad that the company doesn't do anything about these things this will be my last jeep. i feel that these problems are dangerous for me, my family and anyone that is on the road with me and other jeep owner with the same issues.

My 2007 jeep grand cherokee continues to stall (total loss of all electrical) when driving. generally this happens when i am coasting. i have taken my jeep to the dealership twice after repeatedly having this happen, but the dealership cannot get the problem to duplicate itself. i see now this stalling problem is happening on other model jeeps, something the dealership did not bother to mention. i am very concerned the problem is going to lead to an accident. *tr

I had made a left turn, begin to accelerate, and all of a sudden, car begun to shut down, car slowed down, until it came to a stop. took car to dealer, problem was not fixed, continued to have same problem over next several years. i was unaware, and never received a notice of recall for transmission problem. i turned the power off, wait about 1 minute, started vehicle and it ran fine. during the ride, electrical panel began to flash, everything was turning on and off. gas gauge, and every other gauge on the panel went up and down. every light on the panel flashed on and off. this has happen many times over the years as well. i recently took vehicle to dealership in november 2013, who told me they could not fine anything wrong with my car. just in the last few weeks i have had this electrical problem, march 2014. what is wrong with my car, how can i get is fixed? what do i do if i have a recalled vehicle? *tr

2007 (pre and post) have rear tail light assembles that work intermittently. jeep replaces(for approximately $200) broken taillight assemblies with new units having the same defect. their design happens to fail around the 30,000 mile point (by intention?). jeep will not return broken parts when requested for inspection (they don't want these reaching your office). light bulbs are not the issue. this known jeep defect keeping their assembly line running at the expense/risk to jeep occupants or any vehicle following a full size jeep. plus they are making money while endangering others. do the statistics of jeeps show they are rear-ended more often? how convenient if this is the case and the evidence is damaged in the accident. look on-line for the dialog or just look at jeeps on the road and you'll see a brake or tail light out in a much higher percentage than any other vehicle. i notice an after market light assembly was recalled (std. 108), no amber light. how about a recall for a light that may or may not work at any given moment? which is worse? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the dealer stated that the ignition switch was the cause of the failure. the vehicle was repaired under warranty in 2007. in 2009, when the contact attempted to start the vehicle, it would not turn on. in addition, all of the instrument panel indicators illuminated and would not dim. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the battery was low and no other failures could be found. through online research, the contact has found complaints regarding this same issue. the failure mileage was 31,000 and current mileage was 32,000. updated 3/12/09 *cn updated 03/16/09.*jb

I have had this vehicle to the multiple dealerships since i owned it. there is a two second delay when you push down on the accelerator. dealerships can't find anything wrong. i replaced the catalytic converters, 4wd module. every light comes on, check engine, check gas cap etc. it now gets horrible gas mileage and the transmission stopped working. this has been a lemon since day one and jeep refuses to correct the situation. it is at the dealership now. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee 4x4. while driving at any speed, the vehicle shuts down completely and has to be restarted. the vehicle has been to the dealer 4 times and they cannot duplicate the failure. the current mileage was 8,976 and failure mileage was 6,879. updated 12/07/07.

The day after i bought the brand new 2007 jeep grand cherokee diesel, i unlocked the doors with the key fob, opened a couple of the doors and loaded my luggage, then i did the key sequence on the keyfob (lock+panic) to turn off the beep when you lock the car. after all this i tried to start it (correct starting procedure - wait for glow light to go out) and the starter cranked the engine with no firing at all. i repeat and wait 5 times over about 5 minutes, it failed to start each time. finally after i have waited about 2 more minutes, i tried again and it fired right up like it is supposed to. i am concerned the car could fail to start again. updated 01-16-08. *kb

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact noticed water entering the vehicle through the sunroof. the water entered the driver's side of the instrument panel and dampened the front floor of the vehicle. the failure caused the interment panel components (radio), as well as the driver and passenger side windows to not work properly for days at a time. the contact discovered this failure approximately 2-3 weeks after purchasing the vehicle. the vehicle has been to the dealer more than twelve times for this issue. the dealer finally concluded that nothing was wrong with the vehicle and it was designed to work in that manner. there was no remedy available. the contact has a video and pictures available. the failure mileage was unknown.

In may 2007 we started having problems with the a/c and blower motor on our vehicle. i conducted research and found through tech advisory the blower control module were the problem and were being replaced. i disconnected the blower control module and could see the unit had melted around the wire harness plug. i did exactly as the tech advisory recommended and replaced the blower control module and wire harness plug. less than 70 days the exact same problem has occurred again. i pulled the blower control module out and could see the new module had once again melted around the replaced plug. i called the dealership and was told they would warranty the part and i just needed to bring the original invoice and bad melted blower control module in and they would give me a new one. i did that last night and when i was at the dealership they looked at the melted blower control module and told me because i did not replace the entire wire harness they would not replace the melted module. i inquired as to the cost to replace the entire wire harness as it required pulling out the entire dash to simply unplug the old harness and plug the new one in. i was told 8 hours of labor and cost of parts for the new harness and blower control module which was estimated at $700.00. the parts themselves are less than $200.00. when i replaced the original part i did it exactly as the tech advisory told me so which was dated sometime in may 2007. in addition to the part melting it has sank the top edge of the carpet in the passenger side floor board. i view this as an extreme safety hazard and could actually case a fire in the vehicle. the dealership advised no warranty recalls have been issued for this issue either. i think chrysler should re-examine how many of these blower control modules they have replaced and the risk they are putting the public at by not recalling them. any assistance in this matter would be appreciated. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that there were multiple failures with her vehicle. the vehicle stalled which was caused by a drive by sensor within the engine, the rear lift gate light stays on continuously and the check engine light constantly illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on more than one occasion and they could not repair the failure. the contact had to continuously pay a deductible of $100 each time the vehicle was taken to the dealer. none of the failures were recalls nor was there a warranty. the manufacturer was contacted and informed her to take the vehicle to the dealer for the repairs. the failure mileage was 46,107.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the horn on the vehicle will only operate when pressed very hard. the dealer stated that they cannot make any adjustments due to the airbag. the current mileage is 3,000 and failure mileage was 5.

While driving the car stalls out. at speeds 5-40 mph and starts right back up. i take to the dealer 17 times for the same problem . chrysler corp told it is not a lemon. what can to do with this car. *tr

Position of ignition is dangerous: i have turned the vehicle off when driving by bumping it with my knee. this has happened 3 times in the first 400 miles of owning this vehicle. nm
