We have classified the 620 complaints from 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Vehicle started stalling, first it would stall at low speeds, usually coming to a stop. now the vehicle is stalling at highway speeds leaving it open for a deadly situation. at highway speeds, the vehicle will lose power, you will not be able to accelerate and the oil light will come on. have tried putting the vehicle into neutral to resart during coasting but you need to turn the key all they way off and then restart. will usually restart immediately. called chrysler to see if there were any recalls, there are none but they recommend replacing the power control module or electronic control module. if they recommended replacing a part that leads me to believe there is a known problem with those parts. the woman on the phone did not seem concerned my vehicle was stalling out on the highway even after i mentioned i just had a baby. i have had a private mechanic check it out an no codes come up. *tr
When driving my vehicle on the highway i noticed that all of the warning lights on my dashboard were flashing on and then off again, this happened numerous times. it stopped after a few minutes. my fuel, tachometer, speedometer, oil pressure gauges also went from the on to off positions. i notified my car dealership and brought the vehicle in for repair, the service manager said " they can't find the problem if it doesn't present itself " so i drove the vehicle back home. weeks had passed and the same things happened again, all the warning lights came on then they went off numerous times, the gauges went on and off also. i called the dealership again, they told me take off any unnecessary items off the keyring this could be the problem. i told the dealership that " i don't have anything on my keyring" they told me they wouldn't be able to find the problem unless it presents itself. i spoke to a mechanic who has 30 yrs of experience in auto repairs and electrical troubleshooting. he told me it was probably the ignition cut-off switch or short in the wiring harness that was causing my problems. he told me to research it on the internet. i did and i found other jeep owners with the same issue and resolved it with a repair. my question is this. why won't chrysler own up to this problem and fix it? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the cam sensors in the engine were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 27,000.
Vehicle just randomly stalls, shuts off as if the key was turned off and on quickly. sometimes this happens when driving at highway speeds or when going slow around a turn or making any turns, this is very dangerous because of the loss of power steering and its very difficult to steer when it stalls. this will also happen when idling in park or when sitting at stoplights. *tr
Jeep does not start. message saying transmission temp over. *tr
2007 jeep grand cherokee 4x4.. my driver side window panel for the passenger window goes down but not up and stops mid way and goes back down. i just had my starter replace due to corrosion of the connectors, and dealer would not replace connectors, just brushed off and stated i need new starter.... *tr
We did not have an accident, however, we have received a recall notice from chrysler two years ago regarding the ignition switch which could cause the vehicle to loose power if it is not replaced. we have been calling the dealership button motors in kokomo indiana as well as the chrysler toll free number to get this work done but they tell us they are waiting for the part. i am very concerned that something might happen before this work gets done. it's amazing that whenever we have work done on this vehicle that we have to pay for the parts are always available within a day or two but when it comes to recalls it takes two years??? seriously. can you please helps expedite this before a serious accident develops. the recall number is p41/nhtsa 14v-438. *tr
Was pulling from a stop sign when the vehicle suddenly shifted to fourth gear without touching shift left lever causing the vehicle to accelerate very slow and was almost hit by cross traffic because i could not get out of the way, luckily they swerved around me. i have read multiple complaints of same problem with shifting out of control. it must be a manufacturer defect. if it had not been for an alert driver the situation might have turned out differently for my family and i. jeep needs to remedy this problem before somebody is killed. *tr
I purchased this vehicle on december 14, 2011. about three weeks later in a parking lot, we noticed the vehicle would not accelerate even though the accelerator pedal was pushed virtually all the way down. a few days later the engine warning light came on. then the lack of acceleration happened on the interstate. my mechanic cleared the engine warning light but it came back on a few days later. i did a lot of research and it appears this is a common problem on jeep vehicles. the problem is a failure of the electronic shift module. it if very expensive to have replaced. my local dealership charged me $924 plus tax. as many comments as i have seen on this and the fact that lack of acceleration is a safety issue, jeep should not hesitate in issuing a recall. *tr
I was driving approximately 40 mph in the fast lane of a main two-lane residential roadway when the vehicle suddenly jerked violently forward throwing me into the steering wheel and then all acceleration and speed stopped. the steering wheel became abnormally stiff and difficult to turn however i was able to guide the completely stalled and decelerating vehicle to the slow lane and pull-off on the side of the road (with no side lane) with hazards flashing and traffic passing. this was an inherently dangerous condition as the flow of traffic was going approximately 35 - 40 in the fast lane at which time i completely lost power and had limited steering (more like coasting) ability. i was able to turn the engine completely off and restart, however the next day under similar conditions of normal driving conditions the vehicle jerked and stalled again, and restarted after a complete shutdown. this vehicle on the third day post the first incident failed to restart after driving to a local shopping destination and turning the car off to park. i left the vehicle at the location for approximately 4 to 5 hours and retrieved the vehicle upon which it started with a documented call into road side assistance program from jeep. the next day (monday) i drove to an authorized dealer upon which they stated the failure was the electronic shift module (esm) [(not to be confused with the electronic stability control (esc)] which controls the electronic signals from the computer to the transmission at a personal cost of $820. i believe this represents a known defect as currently 55 out of the 133 complaints listed here are describing a similar series of events and root cause, and would be willing to be involved in a class action law suit against jeep as life, limb and property are at stake. *tr
while driving the vehicle, had a sudden lose of ability to accelerate, no throttle response, no rpms on the tach, and every gear indicator was illuminated as if in all gears at the same time (park, reverse, neutral, drive). dealership says its part # 52124137ac that needs to be replaced, and is not covered under any power train warranty, at a cost of $817.00. this problem happened 4 times before i was able to get it in to the local dealership, never on the highway, if it had happened on the highway, im sure i would have been taking a chance with my life. *tr
When you shift from park the prdnl will have a box around each of the letters. when backing up it slams into reverse and then slams into drive and the vehicle will only go 20 mph no matter how much you step on the gas. this has now happened 5 times and the only way it goes back to normal is to shut off the vehicle and start it back up. i have now seen numerous blogs where this happens at highway speeds, in the middle of intersections and is so dangerous to drive cause you never know when it is going to happen. from what i have read it looks like you have to replace the electronic control module at a cost of almost $800 to just have it go out again later and have the same problem again. this is very dangerous and scary! *tr
I bought this jeep on 9/20/2013. the truck is equipped with the 5.7 l hemi engine. over the first 50 days and 1,157 miles of ownership i have encountered 18 episodes of the vehicle stalling, with 14 of those stalls occurring on major highways in traffic. the stalls occur with no warning. the vehicle immediately decelerates to a stop and i am left with no power, no steering and no brakes. one dealership blamed it on a bad battery. the dealership which sold me the jeep diagnosed the problem as a m.a.p. sensor, which they replaced. that did not correct the problem as the stalling problem continues to occur. the most recent was on 11/9/2013 while driving in the center lane of the pa turnpike at 65 mph. the jeep stalled and came to a stop, with a semi tractor-trailer behind me. i have no idea how that truck driver was able to swerve in time to miss me. mechanics and on-line forums identify possible causes for the stalling as 1. a defective (ecm) electronic control modules; 2. shorts in the wiring harness; 3. sparks plugs; 4. egr valve; 5. ignition coil; 6. pcv valve; 7. transmission solenoid pack. there are no diagnostic codes stored in the obd-ii system. one school of thought is that 2007 jeep grand cherokee and commanders equipped with the 5.7 l hemi engine are extremely sensitive to radio frequency interference from the waste spark on the coil. as other complaints have noted, this is an obvious and persistent problem with jeeps equipped with the hemi engine, and chrysler has turned a deaf ear to the complaints. perhaps they are waiting for the fatalities to occur. why nhtsa hasn't done more to order a recall is beyond my comprehension. the problem has been reported on for years with no action taken by chrysler. this jeep is, for lack of a better word, a deathtrap. at best it cannot be trusted, it is unsafe and unreliable. at worst it is an accident waiting to happen! *tr
While driving the vehicle loses power no matter how much gas you give it. the engine light comes on and off every few days. all the gear indicator lights are highlighted. *tr
I purchased my pre-owned 2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4x4 less than a month ago. i have had 4 instances of it not cranking. i took it back to the dealership where they replaced two sensors and reprogrammed the computer. i got my car back on friday. today is monday and it isn't cranking again. all electrical accessories work fine but the car will not crank. the battery, alternator, and starter tested fine. the suspension makes a god- awful squawking sound every time i drive anywhere. *tr
On four separate occasions my jeep has randomly not started after being turned off and parked. the first time i had to have it towed to the shop and have it checked out. the mechanic could find nothing wrong: starter, alternator, battery, & electrical systems all seemed fine. the car finally started with no repair work being performed. this has happened (3) more times since august, the latest being today. there is no rhyme nor reason to how or why it happens. i have since learned of the ignition switch recall by jeep/chrysler, and it supposedly affects the year and model of my jeep. i have been told that the ignition switch recall may very well be the reason for my problem, but as of yet i have received no official recall notice for my car. when i am out driving and have to park i am now afraid to turn my car off for fear it wont start again. likewise, i am also afraid the car is just going to turn itself off when i am driving. i called the jeep dealership closest to me and was informed that they have not been officially notified as to how the recall process is going to work for the ignition switch issue, so they are unable to do anything for me at this time. they are also unsure as to when they will receive any information. *tr
2007 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to ignition switch recall notice issues. *smd the consumer stated for years he experienced a problem with the dashboard warning lights blinking, such as the abs, seat belt, air bag, tcs, esp, etc. they would blink once a week and lasted for a few minutes. the even was followed by a steady malfunction indicator light. the light would go off by itself within 24-48 hours. the consumer received recall # 14v438000 months ago and never received a follow-up letter as the first letter stated. *jb updated 09/10/15*lj updated 10/25/2017*cn
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled when the brakes were engaged. the vehicle would not restart and was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the starter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 67,000. updated 8/30/11 *cn the consumer also stated the was electrical wire damage. updated 09/21/11
Stalling issues with 5.7 hemi jeep grand cherokee overland. vehicle stalls at random but at low speeds and coming to a stop. happens approximately 3 to 4 times per month (about once a week). vehicle loses complete power, brakes, steering, etc. huge safety issue. only way to restart is to put in neutral or park. no check engine light but stores p0884 code. dealer can not replicate problem but notices code. dealer does not have a fix or does not know how to fix. vehicle has stalled on railroad tracks, 5pm traffic, and worse possible times and could cause serious injury. *kb
2007 jeep grand cherokee (5.7 hemi) with 50,000 miles frequently stalls both in motion and while stopped. stalling causes all electronics to shutoff, which results in loss of power steering and brakes. numerous times, i have almost been hit because the vehicle will nearly stop in the middle of the road. the vehicle has been taken to a jeep dealership four times for the stalling issue, which has not been resolved. the dealer claims they cannot replicate the issue. this random stalling is a severe safety hazard that endangers both me, my passengers, and people driving around me. there are thousands of posts on the web referring to the same stalling issue with the jeep grand cherokees (wk) and the jeep commanders (xk). does someone have to be killed before anyone takes action? *kb
I purchased the vehicle at the end of may 2012 engine light was on and had a due bill for work to be done, stalling was 1 of the issues. got it back with no check engine light on,but still stalled whenever hot or cold driving or in park. has been in and out of the shop for almost a year and it still stalls, jeep tech's cant figure it out. dies sometimes 3-4 times a day and once in awhile not at all, but on average 3-5 times a week, never throws a code or check engine light just dies like if i turn the key off. i have to stop or pull over put it in park turn the key all the way off and then restart, runs fine till the next stall which might be in a few minutes, hours or the next day!! very frustrated and don't feel safe at all!!about 3000 dollars of work has been done and still stalls. next thing to do jeep tech says replace wiring harness 2000 dollars..haven't done that yet hopefully something else can be done!!! pcm and plugs have been replace by jeep tech's among other things tried and it still stalls! *tr
Have submitted a complaint before but the problem continues and has gotten worse. my jeep loses all electrical power and shuts down and restarts itself while driving, occasionally doesn't accelerate past second gear and other times accelerates very slowly, numerous but problem began recurring only days later. only now my jeep is additionally at times acting like it wants to shut down but instead is just faltering shaking the whole vehicle violently accompanied by the struggling to accelerate. - electrical system on five occasions all of dash lights came on and went off while i was driving, two of these times the engine stalled and restarted itself. took vehicle to dealership and was told no problem was found. numerous electrical issues. the most dangerous have been the prnd lighting up and vehicle not going over 1st or 2nd gear while driving. this has happened to me 7 times now, 4 of which have tried to be diagnosed by the dealer without success of this and gave it to the dealer when they told me 'nothing was wrong' according to their diagnostics. photo proved otherwise. also the vehicle has shut itself off twice while i was driving on a busy road. the windows also get stuck and will not work. have to operate one window to make the other one work. the battery failed and 'transmission over temp" error happened at the same time. manufacturer's service agent said it was a false readout due to battery failure transmission. this has been a problem since first started yesterday on 04 /10/2011 i need help my car is in newark nj. *tr
2007 jeep grand cherokee starting issues. i have had been stranded three times now due to my vehicle not starting, i have paid to have it towed three times. mechanics cannot figure out what the issue is. i have read thousands of on-line reports of the same issue. i spent $700 last month on something in the transmission (transfer case maybe) and it would not start again yesterday and i had to have it towed again. i as a single mother cannot be continue to be stranded. apparently no one can figure out what is going on with these vehicles. i have just over 50,000 miles on it, and would consider this to be a fairly newer vehicle. i am scared to drive it anywhere. i also seem to have shifting problems especially going up hills. i am scared i am going to be left stranded somewhere alone with my daughter. *tr
Black plastic connector that connects yellow wire to starter solenoid comes loose and/or gets dirty or corroded causing it not to make contact and the vehicle will sometimes not start. i've have seen on various online forums with people having this exact same problem. dealerships always want to replace starter and other parts when it is simply this poor connection that's the problem. chrysler denies it's a problem and dealer mechanics will not put on a better connector. they just like to keep charging people for new starters and other parts when they don't need them. this loose connection also could also cause a fire, it is an obvious flaw in design and a fire could cause serious injury or death to someone that doesn't realize the connection is bad. *tr
Vehicle has lost power while driving. you will be crusing along or pulling out into an intersection and you will loose all power. the engine will not rev, no response at all. after waiting for a perion of time, the vehicle starts going again. this happened to me four times, once in the middle of an intersection, four lanes in all directions, and the vehicle just lost all power. very scary. i took the vehicle to my local garage, and he told me that this was the second jeep to do the same thing. the owner had to have the vehicle towed into the garage, and upon arrival, could find nothing wrong. i had to go to an authorized jeep dealer, and i asked them if they ever heard of this happening, and the reply was, just 3 or 4 times....imaging if this failure happened this often in this small area, how many other vehicles may be having the same problem. the vehicle only had 31000 miles on it, but it was out of warranty for time by 9 months. this is a very dangerous event when you are driving and suddenly loose all power and don't know if or when it is coming back. chrysler said they do not have a problem. i don't believe them. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the interior lighting, instrument panel, and rear lights would flash on and off. the engine light remained illuminated after the failure. also, the contact mentioned that the traction control and abs would fail to reengage after the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). however, the manufacturer had yet to implement a remedy to deter the failure. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000.
Upon acceleration from stop vehicle will hesitate and lose power. this constitutes a hazard to vehicle and any approaching vehicles during a turn. inspection indicates that transmission electronic control module is at fault along with a possible transmission sensor failure. the check engine light will come on. both of these conditions ( power and check engine ) are intermittent, indicating that the module is faulty. there have been many complaints about the transmission ecm on these vehicles. the other complaints have varying symptoms but all go back to the transmission ecm. these unit should be recalled and repaired or replaced at manufacturers cost. this problem exists in many different models and years of vehicles, but always go back to this ecm unit. after investigating this problem i don't feel that the consumer is at fault or causing this to occur. chrysler modules are and have been faulty in the past. anecdotal evidence says that other modules in chrysler vehicles have had problems too. please investigate the chrysler transmission ecm's and have them recalled. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to pull over to the side of the road where he turned the ignition off and restarted and was able to drive the vehicle. the failure occurred four times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians stated the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Auto transmission gear shift not shifting into gears correctly; loss power around curves; sometimes engine light comes on; sometimes all gear indicators come on dash; feels as though can't accelerate when entering onto highway or passing. nothing done yet. called dealer, online searches. very very many same-similar online & very expensive repair $700+. appears to be defective part & should be recall/dealer replace/repair!! *tr
I have a 2007 jeep cherokee laredo. while i was driving at night, in the dark, my headlights and interior lights began to flash on and off. realizing what an extreme danger the jeep was to me and all others on the road i immediately took to the dealership. the dealership said they were unable to diagnose a problem and told me to continue to drive the jeep. its happened on 5 different occasions after and every instance i have taken it to the dealership with no resolution nor a diagnosis. *tr
While driving the entire dashboard lit up and then slowly proceeded to shut down. gauges stopped working then suddenly came back on. vehicle began to hesitate with shifting and car felt very sluggish. occurred 3-4 times for no apparent reason and without warning. dealer could not recreate or identify the problem despite many online reports of the exact same incident. *tr
After being parked the jeep would not start, code displayed in the dash stated transmission over temp, after sitting for about 30 more minutes the jeep started - drove home and it would not start again - took it to a garage and they could not get the problem to replicate after having it for a week. july 5, 2011 - jeep would not start again, transmission over temp code, still intermittent, after 2 weeks the garage replaced the transmission control module, august 6, 2012 - transmission over temp error code, this time it will not start after any pause in driving, had it towed to the dealer and they are saying its the starter (jeep now has about 65,000 miles on it) - also had to replace the right front speed sensor (it is bad and causing the traction control system not to function properly).[additional notes: had to replace the esm at 28596 miles, jeep loss of engine power and all lights lit up on gear shifter, at 27170 miles had to replace both front window regulators]. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the entire instrument panel illuminated as the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the wiring in instrument panel and the alternator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo(n/a). the contact stated that the check engine light was illuminated. he stated that the vehicle completely shut down while he was stopped at a stop sign. he was unable to restart the vehicle so the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership where the starter was replaced and several other components checked. the contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. the current and failure mileages were 134,896.
In may 2008, 15308 mi on jeep, slowing for red light, dies, all dash lights com on, no power to steer, no wipers, etc.; starts back on it's own. took to dealer, no code, no re-act; has happened intermittent since-safety issue in traffic. now tranny problem, started sept. 2010, 37,600 mi, code 750, changed solenoid pk in tranny, now code for low pressure send circuit, drives a few miles then goes and stays in 4th gear; 3 months and still not drivable. need recall for esm and tbs before someone gets killed. chrysler should stand behind their products & be responsible for design and components. this is very disheartening since both my husband and i own a small biz and are struggling just to keep the doors open and now add the expense of diagnosing chrysler's problem is just too much! i warranty my work, wear & tear considered, as should chrysler before someone is hurt or worse- dies trying to get to out of traffic. *tr
My jeep has experienced three electrical failures which have occurred approximately 6 months apart. for some unknown reason the battery died overnight each time. the second time it happened i purchase a new battery but six months later it drained too. i was able to successfully jump-start the vehicle after each incident. transmission----i haven't been able to down-shift from drive to a lower gear. this problem began at about 46000 miles. i took it to a repair shop where they diagnosed the problem as defective shifter control. before i had it repaired (est. $1000) it began functioning normally, that is, until today. i left a parking lot and merged into traffic. fortunately traffic was light because i couldn't get the jeep to go any faster than 28 mph. it seemed like the transmission was stuck in first. also the engine light came on. this is a very serious situation that should not be ignored by the chrysler corp. or the national highway traffic safety adm.. *tt
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would violently jerk and stall. a malfunction indicator light would illuminate during the failure. after the failure occurred, the light remained illuminated for several days. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who advised the contact to replace the electronic shift module because it failed. the dealer had not been notified. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any assistance. no repairs were peformed. the failure mileage was 17,000 and the current mileage was 26,660. the vin was unavailable.
Car would not start. it was towed to the dealership which had to replace the starter solenoid wire. the service department informed me this was a know design defect, but since i was just out of warranty (37k) i would have to cover the cost. if this is a know problem, why isn't it fixed. *tr
Traded vehicle after owning for very short period of time due to stalling of engine
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle would stall. the dealer could not duplicate the failure. the failure was intermittent and would usually occur while making right turns. the contact brought the vehicle to the dealer again who stated that it needed a tune up. the vehicle was repaired by the contact, but the failure recurred. shortly after, the contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 35,000.
Vehicle traveling on pa turnpike at 65 mph when engine shut down. power systems quit but i was able to get the car off the driving lane could have easily caused a crash if it had quit during passing vehicle, 2007 grand cherokee with n3.0 crd diesel, was towed to dealer dealer replaced crankshaft sensor to fix issue. *tr
Bought used 2007 grand cherokee from adams jeep, aberdeen md in nov. 2009. within first month, while traveling around 30 mph, car would not accelerate when pushing on gas pedal despite engine racing. prnd lights all lit up. took car back to dealer and bezel gear selector replaced after paying $100 deductible on extended warranty. same problem occurred 5 months later. dealer charged me for electronic control module updates. one month later, same problem occurred, dealer replaced bezel gear selector again. one month later, same exact problem occurred. this is 4th time taking car in for lack of acceleration while pushing on gas pedal. dealer states unable to fix problem since they cannot reproduce it. this is a huge safety problem as i have almost been hit multiple times when my car fails to accelerate when pushing on gas pedal. chrysler needs to recall the shifter module in these cars before someone gets killed. *tr
The first incident happened when my jeep grand cherokee unknowingly shifted into neutral while driving down my neighborhood road. i was not aware of this until i tried to increase my speed and was not able to. i then had to turn off the car and turn it back on. this has happened three times since 2011. *tr
Car will decelerate, and will not respond to depressing of the accelerator pedal. occurs at various speeds and traffic conditions. contacted dealership, began to describe issue, without describing the make and model, and the repair-shop was able to then tell me the make and model of my vehicle without me previously disclosing. (already had gear shift module replaced once before, and since the issue occurred 14 months later, dealership refuses to cover expense of replacement.) this is a very dangerous issue, and as stated before, occurs at various times and traffic conditions, and there are no preceding warnings or other indicators that foreshadow the occurrence. car is now at 42,000 miles, yet it is in need of a 3rd shift module, seems highly unlikely. dealership needs to declare a recall or when the customer has the problem, they fix it without further expense to the consumer. i bought this jeep new, and its my 4th one, however, i am extremely disappointed with their customer service, and the quality of vehicle they are producing, and will not ever purchase their vehicles again. *tr
This problem has occurred almost every day for two months. i will describe one incident, which occurred this evening around 11pm. i was driving on the highway in my 2007 jeep grand cherokee when my accelerator stopped having any effect on my car. all of the gauges died (so the fuel reported empty, the speedometer said i was not moving, etc) - all of this while traveling at 65mph. i had to pull over, turn the car off and back on, and all of the problems went away. as i've said, this has happened once a day for the past two months. so far there appears to be no fix for the problem. *tr
I purchased a 2007 used jeep grand cherokee from kelly jeep on 3/11/2010, with an odometer reading of 24,758 miles. this vehicle has stalled randomly seven (7) times since the date of purchase. it has been returned to the dealer's service department three times and each time they have not been able to duplicate the cause of the stalling. the stalling occurs after a stop and then attempts to proceed into a turn at low speed. it occurs more frequently when a right turn is being made. the engine stops and all electric energy are lost, just as though the ignition was turned off. braking assist and power steering are lost. i have provided the dealer a document listing and observation of each of the seven events. several have places me in a comprising position and if traffic had been heavy could have resulted in a serious accident. the vehicle always is able to restart after it stopped, the ignition turned off and placed in park. *tr
In august of 2009 my wife experienced her jeep cherokee die out in the middle of traffic. i met her at the scene. the car started immediately and was drivable with no subsequent occurrences that day. we took it to jack phalen dodge in countryside, il for service to see if they could determine the cause. on august 31 we picked up the vehicle and it checked out completely, they were unable to duplicate the concern. twice since august we experienced the same concern, the car died out in traffic. both times we were able to start the car without any issues and continue. on saturday, march 6 we drove to downtown chicago. on this day we initial drove over 20 miles to get into the city, however once we were there the car began to die. this time we experienced it dying out at least 10 times. once, on i-55 with traffic moving at expressway speeds. having lost confidence that we would be able to continue safely we called for a tow. we took it back to jack phalen for review. we picked up the car on monday, march 8. again we were told that nothing was wrong mechanically with the auto. however, they noted that there was a "star case for loss of throttle response #k34511542" which responded to "software updates". they installed 5 software updates. we received no guarantee that this would fix the issue nor would they guarantee that future occurrences would be covered under our warranty, which expires in april 2010. we are obviously concerned that dated software could potentially result in a car losing all power in traffic and the dangers that would pose. i have filed a complaint with chrysler. this obviously seems like it could potentially present a very dangerous situation. *tr
2007 grand cherokee overland 3.0l diesel. for the past year or so the lights on the dash will all come on similar to when the car is first started. recently the speedometer and tach will shut off as well. if this were a gas engine the engine would probably also stall. numerous times at the dealer no change. i believe this related to the 2008 grand cherokee recall. *tr
I own a 2007 jeep grand cherokee v6 2wd and other owners across the us (thousands of them) with years ranging 2005-2007 report problems with the electronic shift module. this goes out in the middle of driving (sometimes on the highway) and will cause the vehicle to stall out in the middle of the road without warning. i have had mine replaced twice now and have only owned my jeep for 1 1/2 years (bought it brand new). this happened in march 2009 and again january 2010. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 35 mph the engine stalled without warning. within seconds, the vehicle would restart without driver intent. the dealer replaced the ignition switch, the power-train control module, and the electronic control module; yet, the failure persisted. the contact voluntarily surrendered the vehicle to the manufacturer. he was concerned that the vehicle would be resold since it could potentially cause a crash to occur. the failure mileage was 39,000 and the current mileage was unknown.
