A year and a half ago i was on my way back home from a half an hour drive from town when i decided to stop at my parents house to get a drink. i wasn't inside for less then ten minutes, when i went to leave my jeep would not start at all. after a half hour later looking everything over i did notice the fuel pump fuse was melted and blown. i was asked bye american chevrolet dealership if i had something plugged into my cigarette lighter that could of blown it. i've been a mechanic for 11 years now and i've never known to see the fuel pump fuse ran to other components meaning interior outlets. now a half year later i have been having problems starting my jeep at times and having no power to the motor at all. i want to get rid of this jeep. now i had a recall on the neutral safety switch and just today i get another recall for the ignition switch. i keep having axel popping sounds out of the front passenger side and i'm fed up with this jeep. *tr

My 2006 jeep grand cherokee lardeo has all the same issues as listed by every other jeep owner. the engine randomly shuts off while driving down the road, the dash board and headlights flicker on and off constantly. sometimes we start sometimes we dont. when pulling out into traffic , maybe it will go, maybe it wont. i have lost my brakes on several occasions as well. now the jeep sits in my driveway as it wont start at all, and of coarse nobody can tell me what is wrong with it as usual ! nothing like paying for a dead horse ! i have contacted the chrysler corporation only to be told these are not "safety" issues. good lord what does it take to get a decent vehicle that is safe and reliable ? i guess that would be not buying anything chrysler, dodge, jeep in the future is the route i will take ! i only hope when one of these ticking bombs fail, my family and friends arent on the road that day !

Starting in feb. 2012 the engine would quit running while driving. when the engine would quit we loose steering and braking. the vehicle starts right back up and is drivable. we would experience this problem once every 2-3 months. the frequency in which this is happening has increased with the latest incident occurring 3-18-15 while exiting the interstate and nearly avoiding a crash off the roadway. we received a recall notice from jeep (p41) but everytime we call they tell us the parts are not available. i have tried several times to contact jeep but am left on hold for over 40 minutes. can you please help us with this problem. *tr

I initially purchased this jeep at 45,000 miles. it now has 98,000 miles. this issue has now happened at least 5 times in this time span. the first few times i thought it may be just a coincidence but now it is starting to scare me that there could be an issue. because it can not be replicated at the mechanic,s no one can pinpoint what the problem could be. the jeep will just die spontaneously. there is no warning that it is coming. luckily i have always been going slow through a parking lot with no other cars in my way. i am able to control the car to a stop and then restart it. this past week i became more nervous however as it happened while i was making a left turn from a major street on to a residential street. i was able to control the car to the side of the residential road while turning however, if there had been cars on the street i was making the left too or i had not given more time for the cars coming at me during the turn this could have equaled a major accident. i am seeing through my research that i am not the only one experiencing this. *tr

The left rear exhaust manifold bolt broke causing an exhaust leak must be an issue with the 2006 seen other reports of the same bolt breaking, car was in motion city street

Jeep grand cherokee randomly lost engine power, essentially shutting the car down. this happened at least ten times over the span of a few years. each visit the dealer to get service was worthless as they could not find anything wrong or a fix. *tr

Engine suddenly stops, all lights on dashboard come on, unable to steer properly and control vehicle...breaking doesn't work well either when this happens..on occassion i have been able to re-start the engine immediately but the check engine light comes on and stays on for a few days. has happened while driving, while parked, while idling in traffic...i only have the ignition key in use i do not have a heavy key chain. extremely scary when this has happened on interstate!! please let me know if there is a fix for this problem. i have taken it to a shop several times and they cannot find anything and tell me there are no recalls on my vehicle.

I have had issues with my vehicle shutting off since 2010. i googled issue and it seemed others had same issue and offered other suggestions other than ignition. i received a recall notice stating that ignition switch was defective and recalled back in latter part of 2014. i contacted mckinney texas dealership who said they did not have replacement part and was not aware of when they would receive them. i emailed chrysler in november with issue, i received an email stating they would put me on a list to be contacted when part is available.i emailed them again in february with the reply from them of a simple we do not have an estimated time of arrival on parts. i did express that my vehicle does have the issue and i am concerned. i do not want to be involved in an accident due to a faulty part and personally feel that if you are really concerned about my safety either fix my vehicle or give me a vehicle that is safe. this is why i am contacting you now because i sincerely believe something needs to be done. thank you for your time. *tr

On at least 5 separate occasions since about 2009, my 2006 jeep grand cherokee has suddenly and lost power and cut off while driving at approximately 20-40 miles per hour. there is no reason that i can confirm causes this and i'm not able to duplicate the defect. i've reported it to pearson (dealer) and they indicated they can't help with an issue that can't be demonstrated or duplicated. this is extremely dangerous to lose all power, even at lower speeds. this issue should be thoroughly investigated to find the root cause. i can confirm that it definitely occurs. in addition, it's reported that starting a jeep grand cherokee may result in sudden, uncontrolled acceleration or movement forward, even when in park. car pool auto wash pushes every jeep product out of the wash tunnel by hand to avoid starting the vehicle for this reason they explained. while sudden acceleration has never occurred to me, there appears to be enough evidence this may warrant further investigation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the ignition turned out of its original position causing the vehicle to stalled. the vehicle was able to restart. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received a notification nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Purchased the 2006 jeep grand cherokee limited (4.7l) new from dealership. it stalls unexpectedly. usually at low speeds. most of the time while turning. it does it probably once every two or three months, which makes it next to impossible to duplicate at the dealership. in addition, no codes are ever tripped, leaving no proof of an existing problem. we have taken it to the dealership on three separate occasions over the years while it was still under warranty, however, the dealerships maintained that if they could not duplicate the problem, they could not fix the problem, leaving it unresolved. the jeep now has over 100k on it (out of warranty) and it continues to stall. what i find odd, is that this particular problem was happening to thousands of people with jeeps like mine over the years, but on the three separate occasions we took it into the dealership, they acted like they had never heard of the problem. how is this possible? *tr

The first incident happened just weeks after i purchased my grand cherokee. i was on a two lane highway going 75 mph in the left lane.the highway did not have a shoulder to pull over on. there was a tractor trailer in front of me, behind me and to my right. my car suddenly started decreasing in speed rapidly, my steering wheel locked up and it was as if my car had been turned off. i had no where to go as it was sandwiched in between semis all going at a high rate of speed. i turned on my hazards until i was completely stopped in the middle of the highway. i put my car in park, put the key into the off position and restarted it.i drove straight to the tulsa,ok jeep dealership. to say i was shaken up is an understatement. they ran tests on it. came back to me and told me the car checked out perfectly fine and either my knee hit the ignition or my keys were too heavy. my keys only had my car key, house key and my key fob on it and i knew my knee had not hit the ignition. i was scared to drive my car from then on. the incidents continued to happen over and core again.sometimes at a high rate of speed, but also lots of times at a slow rate of speed under 25mph or while going from a stop to start (like at a stop light or while trying to turn). i continued to take my car in to the jeep dealership the entire time it was under warranty. i received the exact same answer every single time. they treated me like i was making the incidents up. the incidents started happening more frequently and after my second child was born we were finally in a position to purchase another vehicle. my jeep has been sitting in my driveway for over a year. we are unable to sell it for anything close to what kbb says its worth. and we also feel like we can't sell it consciously knowing it could kill someone.these cars are a death trap and because of financial situations families are forced to keep. *tr
