Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Have has to replace water pump 4 times for leaking. replaced 2 power steering pumps. transmission and slipped and chirped since i bought it. noticed metal shaving in my oil.

The vehicle's gauges will turn off while driving randomly. the speedometer, odometer, tachometer, fuel gauge will all zero out for unspecified amounts of time. sometimes 10 seconds, other times until the vehicle is started back up. this occurs when the vehicle is in motion. sometimes it causes the car to completely shut off and come back on. while shut off, the car sounds like it is struggling to continue its forward progress. this happens every couple thousand miles (2-3 months apart). once the car corrects itself, the check engine light appears. after starting the car 2-3 times, the misfire corrects itself and the check engine light turns off.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle failed to shift gears. the check engine warning light was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to golling chrysler dodge jeep ram (2405 s telegraph rd, bloomfield hills, mi 48302 (248) 334-3600) where it was diagnosed there was to much transmission fluid in vehicle. the third and fourth solenoid slipped. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 97,006.

The engine light seems to stay on and the tire light keeps blinking off and on i bought this vehicle 10 25 2019

I truck is not pulling good, i have to really step on the gas to make it go. even if iam not going up a hill, i have to press the gas hard to make it go.

My brakes lock on me when driving or stopping my engine shakes and raddled when stopped at a light or parked

Recently bought our jeep and have dimming lights due to low idle and also have a problem with starting it. there are times it wont start unless the battery is disconnected and reconnected 5 mins later and that's after shutting the vehicle off after driving it. from what i have read there is an issue with the wire harness from the battery. the low idle is making the lights dim throughout the vehicle and from what i have read on that it needs a system update that can cost roughly 1000 which i dont have. my wife also said while she was driving home that the transmission slipped on her for no apparent reason. she said she pulled over and put it in park and back in gear and then it acted fine.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and various warning indicators illuminated. the contact waited for a brief moment and restarted the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 96,000.

While in motion the motor randomly jerked hard and made a very loud clinck, clinck noise

1st recall recieved in 2014 about a moth after purchase said the ignition switch was faulty causing loss of power. to date have had the ignition replaced 2x. it stil looses power while in motion from 45mph to 70mph. have had many repairs done claiming to fix the problem and nothing has worked. dealership keeps saying they don't know what the problem is. when it loose all power i have approx. 20 seconds to make it to the shoulder. have almost been hit several times on the freeway. this happens on a daily basis. my husband and i feel like it may be an electrical shortage somewhere that no one can seem to find

Valve seat dropped into #4 cylinder head on a warm restart. vehicle was stationary & not overheated. vehicle was at rest in a parking lot. catastrophic engine failure followed.

I too have had the issue with the seat belts not locking unless pushing down red release .before that happened though, the latch lost contact and bell chimed till ignition was turned off as the seat registers when body is in seat.i called chrysler and they acted stupid but did give me maneuver to deactivate chime which can be found on youtube also.my other issue happened within the first 500 miles of being new.exhaust manifold on left side failed and they said it was the gasket and fixed.then 2 years later the other side did same thing and they fixed.then after warranty was over the left side went again.this time they said it was cracked stud and they wanted 1200 to drill it out and replace.i called chrysler out on this and after back and forth they finally took care of it.well that same side has noise again huh

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle shook vigorously without warning. in addition, the contact observed smoke and oil leaking underneath the vehicle. the vehicle was towed home. an independent mechanic diagnosed that a piece fractured from the engine and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 153,000.

Driving down the road engine revved down, pulled over immediately called tow truck. took into dealership they said the timing chain had broke and engine was no good. replacing motor due to still having a warranty on it. hoping this does not happen with the replacement engine. i have noticed on forums that has happened to numerous others wondering why no recall has been issued. oil changes were all on time and plugs and wires changed at recommended time. this should not happen an engine with 105000 miles. *tr

The faulty valve seats failed and destroyed my engine which left me stranded while traveling out of town. engineers know the design was faulty as revision to address this situation were made in 2008 to correct the problem for the newer models. a recall should be issued for the earlier models to have the revised seats installed. this is negligent and will hurt the chrysler name if not addressed soon. i had just pulled of the highway to refuel with no indication of any problems. the jeep would not restart after filling the tank.

My ignition switched off disabling mostly everything on the vehicle. this was all while doing 75 mph on the interstate. i love jeep but they to get this fixed.

Ignition key failure and electrical issues with locks. vehicle will not start at frequent and in frequent times. vehicle seems to think that there is a key in the ignition. dealer has looked at and replaced on previous recall. problem is not fixed and vehicle will leave you stranded. took back to dealer and they can't find issue! vehicle was stopped and stationary. does not start when key is inserted and vehicle is parked.

I was advised by larry h miller in albuquerque nm that my recall was fixed and that i would need to pay for a diagnostic to see why the " service 4wheel drive system" light was still on even though i had been there 2 times in past and issue was said to be resolved by a system update. i left the dealership after i was told it was about 280$ that i would have to pay to get the issue fixed-

During rain storms both driver and passenger sides are flooded with water. this has ruined carpet in vehicle and will probably rust the bottom of the car. - vehicle stationery in driveway of home. the safety belts both driver and passenger sides are not working - do not secure unless you push down hard to engage the belt into lock mode. i do not feel safe when i have to manually engage the belt hook into the lock. i had an accident and crashed into a fence, the airbag did not deploy. vehicle in motion at time. when i start the engine , vehicle still in park mode, it accelerates in high mode without stepping on gas pedal. on a city street.

I bought my vehical used in june. (2006 jeep grand cherokee limited with 160,000 miles) i took it back to dealer where they told me the battery had issues and they "fixed" the problem. i'd be driving and if i came to a stop i would lose all power and my engine would turn off. at a drive through, it would die, at a stop light, die. in october my issues started up again. now the same things are happening but every light on the dash lights up, flashes/flutter/flickers, headlights shut off, radio shuts off, hvac system shuts off, but engine will run for about 20min then i lose all power where ever i am, i'll be driving down the highway going 55mph and the engine shuts off. pulling into the store engine shuts off. on my way to work engine just shut off while going down the highway. coasted as far as i could to get to a safe place to stop. now it won't start again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 9 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted after the first attempt; however, the failure recurred on several occasions. the dealer was notified of the failure, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.

I was driving to work down an incline/hill on 9/2, there was traffic ahead, the engine shut off and the breaks locked. i pulled the e-break and swerved off the side of the road, luckily without any crash. i was able to restart the vehicle but had a tow truck tow it to my local mechanic who verified there was no problem with the breaks, and notified me of the recall p41 on the ignition switch which can cause the engine to shut off and power steering and breaks to lock while driving. the jeep dealership told me not only are the parts not available but they don't know when they will be available and they can't diagnose this as the problem without replicating the problem. this is a known issue so it is unclear to me why the issue would have to be replicated. i have a baby and do not want to drive this car, as recommended by jeep customer service and the dealership, and risk accident to myself or others until the part is in and fixed. i can't believe jeep would ask me to continue driving this vehicle not only knowing there is a risk but an actual problem. i think it's fair that jeep provide me with a safe alternative form of transportation in the meantime.

While parked the car will rotate between not cranking to starting but shutting completely off. in addition to these issues while driving 40 mph the vehicle will sometimes stall and engine will start to lose power. i took the vehicle into cutter dodge in honolulu for repair on 8/25. they diagnosed the problem as a ignition switch recall but they didn't have the part to fix it at this time. in addition, stated that the wireless control module(wcm) had failed and needed to be replaced. while the car was there they also performed a 28 point inspection and didn't find any additional concerns. nine days later the wcm part come in from canada and was replaced. my vehicle was returned to me on 9/2. the car ran as intended at times for 9 days and on 9/12 the no crank, no start issue returned. as of the time of this formal complaint the vehicle will not start. in a closing, the issues the car was experiencing prior to taking it to the dealership for repair or exactly the same issues that i'm experiencing today. i will have the jeep towed back to the dealership first thing sunday morning.

Going 40 mph the all lights on dashboard came on, the radio shut off, the abs brakes made a noise then everything on dashboard went out. check engine light came on & the gas gage didn't work you couldn't tell how fast you were going ,the air conditioner quit & engine stopped, the vehicle was hard to steer & the brakes were manual & then engine started again. i turned the car off & turned it back on & the check engine light is on & the dashboard seems to work again. this has happened 2 times within 3 days. i am renting a vehicle cause i'm too afraid to drive the vehicle. there is a recall on this vehicle for the ignition switch with all the same vehicle loss of engine power, power steering & braking assist but it doesn't include the dashboard lights coming on & the dealers say it is not the same thing. the ignition switch recall came out in july 2014 & to date they have not provided any dealerships with the replacement parts. how can jeep say it is not the same problem if they won't replace the recalled ignition switch to find out?

The check engine (gas cap) warning light came on. then i was backing out of our driveway, stopped to put garage door down and the vehicle quit (while in reverse and it was idling). the vehicle started right up when i put it in park but then quit again approximately 2 hours later when i was pulling into a parking space. we took it into a dealership in nampa and they stated that they fixed the problem with the check engine light but they did not know why the vehicle quit. they informed us that there was a recall on the ignition switch and that could be the problem but parts to fix it were not available. i called chrysler and they told me parts may be available in september. i am afraid to drive the vehicle because we live in a remote mountain area and if the vehicle quits, i will not have power brakes or power steering when driving along the river on a very curvy, treacherous road. i cannot afford to leave the vehicle parked until parts are available at an apparently unknown date. chrysler did suggest that i have the ignition replaced and they may or may not reimburse me. the dealership said the parts they currently have may or may not fix the problem. can you please tell me what you would suggest? what happens if the vehicle quits and there is an accident? is chrysler and/or the dealership liable for any injury and/or damages? thank you.

On july 18 2014 recall # p41 was issued by chrysler corp. they have, as yet no solution for this issue. it has been almost a year and no solution in sight. who in their right mind issues a recall without a solution? i need this recall completed so i can get it licensed. i need the nhtsb to insist that chrysler live up to it's claim that safety is of paramount importance. either abandon this recall or fix the problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at approximately 50 mph, the engine stalled. the vehicle was able to restart after two attempts. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 81,688.

Upon preparing to stop and/or make a left hand turn (multiple incidents) vehicle's ignition shuts off. this is very dangerous as i was attempting a left turn on a busy industrial 4 lane road when the vehicle shut off mid-turn. i had two small children with me (1 and 4) and am extremely lucky i was not hit, from both sides. my knee sits approximately 8 inches from the ignition switch so i know it was not bumped. *tr

Prior to the incident, my jeep felt as if it were having trouble switching between gears. it felt jerky, if you will. while traveling along i-95 on the east coast of florida, my jeep (twice) slipped gear and appeared to have gone into neutral. if you know the area, it's not the ideal place for this to happen. since returning to the west coast of florida, it has happened once. i've taken to a shop for a tune-up and to check on that problem. needless to say, the 'fix' did not fix it and i'm still experiencing jerky shifts and gear failure. i've read a number of similar complaints regarding the same type of incidents on the nhtsa website, but have not located a fix for the problem. without hesitation, i'll say i'm terrified. *tr

Driving 30 mph, after about 3 miles of driving my check engine light came on. followed the tips to check the code and it says "transmission over temp". everything seems to be ok at the time but i'm sure this will eventually cause a problem. a couple months ago the whole instrument cluster cut off and on 2 times in a couple minute window but that seems to have been an isolated incident since it hasn't happened since. *tr

This complaint is part of an ongoing recall (p41). we have not had an incident with the vehicle. however, i received a recall notice in august about the ignition issue. it is now 6 months later and chrysler still has no information about when the dealerships will have the part available to correct the problem. this is unacceptable. its my opinion that the recall notice was sent to satisfy lawyers in case someone is killed while driving this vehicle, as in, "we sent a recall notice to make you aware of the problem". how long does chrysler have to address this issue before the government gets involved? *tr

I was driving on the highway when my car engine suddenly stopped and all the sensor lights came on the dash board i attempted to move to the side of the highway the steering wheel would not move - suddenly the engine started again. *js

Mine is doing the same as the rest! and no help from a dealer or anyone! about a month and a half ago i was traveling in cruise at 70mph started to notice every crack in the hwy my headlights would flicker, figured one was going bad. 15 miles later my dash, radio, headlights, and cruise all shut off on me. in the blink of an eye they come back on (including all the warning lights), except for my cruise. remembering the recall notice, the parts i can't get, and the fact i was a service writer for 8 years at a dealership, i realized my truck had shut off and turned back on (my key never moved). so as i drive on it starts doing it every 20 min or so. the next day on my way home it started doing it again. now when i drive short distances in the cold (northern wi) it does not happen nearly as much, now longer distance with the heat blowing the whole way it happens regularly, i also notice if i take the key out of the ignition its very warm almost hot.. the last straw was this last weekend, i was making our yearly spring cabin run, traveling at around 35/40 mph on a gravel road my entire truck went dead, key was in the on position and i lost all power to everything , not wanting to lose control, i grabbed for the key ( again going back to the recall) and i literally turned the key from the run position to off to the run position and it restarted (doing this as i'm rolling down a gravel road with no power brakes or steering at 35/40mph). also noted that it was not just me in the vehicle! i've read, watched videos on this, talked to other owner and now have been dealing with this first hand. after it turning off completely, this is way more dangerous than chrysler is admitting. my next step is putting a new "bad" switch in, if this one made it 80,000 miles why can't the next, however sadly it will be on my dime. hope this helps and if you have this issue be very careful! *tr

I have a recall that says that the ignition switch can change position while i am driving causing the car to cut off while driving. this can cause a loss in engine power, powere steering, braking assistance and possible failure of air bags causing an accident. the incident that i describe above occurred on interstate 85. i beleive that was what happened as i was able to coast off the raod to an exit. sat for a while trying to fiqure out what was wrong finally after a while the car started back up and i got to my destination. after reading the article and looking up my vin number which shows this recall i beleive that is what happended. this recall has been pending for more than a year and chrysler still says they don't hav the parts to fix it.the chrysler recall # is 14v-438.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 47 mph, the engine stalled and contact crashed into a ditch in order to avoid hitting someone. in addition, the traction control, the abs and the air bag warning lights illuminated. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received a notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) and believed the failure was related to the recall. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,973.

I am now going on my 3rd incident with this problem! i lose all lights and gauges on my dashboard. heat turns off and most importantly, my ignition turned off on me and made a grinding sound and i had to pull over. each time i had cars behind me and thankfully neither i nor the car behind me were injured. all the lights flicker and gauges go all the way down to where i can not tell how fast i am going. my most recent incident was on february 28th, 2015, i was at a stop sign and when it was my turn to go my lights flickered for a second then all gauges went down and the grinding started, it was as if i was trying to drive on neutral, so i then moved to the side because i had a car behind me and the car stopped. i shut it off completely and waited a few minutes before turning it back on. i drive on the expressway 60 miles a day to and from work, i am scared of causing an accident. i took my car previously to auto zone to see why my engine light is on and they checked it and gave me a code of u1411. i looked it up and it has to do with the ignition recall that was sent to me about my car. i have also called a few dealers to see if the part is in and was told no. i have a 5 year old daughter and i'm scared to have her in the car with me because of this! i need for something to be done asap! *tr
