A humming noise is coming from wheel. rear differential is causing heat to build up, and vibration noise.*ak

Excessive gear whine/noise from differentials. front rebuilt twice, rear rebuilt once. dealer ordered new front transaxial unit assembly

While driving to work the transmission got stuck in first gear and would not shift into second gear or anyother gear for that matter. i was stuck driving a maximum of 20 mph to work. i had to get the vehicle towed to the dealership. since then i have had problems with the transmission shift hard between first and second grear. (dealer has tried making adjustments which do not seem to help). i also have noticed that when shifting into reverse a loud whinning noise can be heard from the transmission. the dealer says this is normal. the reason for this is the transmission is filling up with fluid. i find this explanation unacceptable i have never heard a noise like this from my 1993 grand cherokee or anyother car for that matter. i have read hundreds of reports of unsatisfied 1999 grand cherokee owners with transmission problems, and i think chrysler needs to do something about it. i have asked jeep to replace my entire transmission several times, but they refused. *ak

In 1998 within 30 days of purchasing th ejeep, i parked in the driveway of my home to pick up the mail,. i put the jeep into park. the gear jumped into reverse after i got out of th ejeep and it started to drive in reverse. i grabed the open door but it was going so fast it knocked me over and the tires rolled over my leg. the jeep proceeded to drive in reverse, across the street -onto a neighbors lawn and backed into a tree. someone had to put the jeep into park, again and shut the car off. i was taken to the hospital by amblance where i had a series of operations on my leg. the dealer and the manufacturer claimed that i must have put the jeep into reverse instead of park. i had the jeep repaired and still have it.*ak

Front brake rotors keep having warping problem; were replaced at about 5000 mi., turned at about 18500 mi., and are again, at 22725 mi. out of round again. terrible noise coming from rear; differential rebuilt with new bushings and noise is beginning to. *ak

The bulk of the problems the car has were recognized before 583 miles. the engine stalls when driving in stop and go traffic. the problem seems to be magnified if the car goes from high speeds to an idle . the car begins to idle below 500rpm and then dies. after being in to reprogram several times, now the vehicle is hard to start, it takes from 5-10 seconds to start. the car has transfer case problems that make the car shudder at low speeds when turning. trying to fix that issue created a leak from the transfer case. the car also has a hollow grinding noise or resonance at 1200rpm in 1st gear while under a load. the car has been serviced six times. these issues still remain. *ak

While in reverse and going into drive, the vehicle stalled unexpectedly which might have caused an accident. also, when starting vehicle with the headlight switch on, the headlights go off when instructed to be on. been to dealer several times. dealer cannot determine problem, they say it might be the computer module, but have not fixed that part. *ak

Transmission transfer case failed. yh

Vehicle bucks and jumps during low speed turns in forward and reverse. may be related to transfer case: dealer indicated wrong fluids installed at factory. we are concerned about future general failure or possible lockup and crash at highway speeds.

while leaving vehicle in park and idle vehicle slipped into reverse, and went across the street, stopped when hitting a tree.*ak

The differential makes humming noise at speeds between 45 to 55 mph. yh
