Consumer placed the vehicle in park with the engine still on t and within 2 minutes vehicle jumped into reverse, went accross the highway, running into a building. *ak

Not only does the transmission slip out of gear going down the highway, but i have already went thru one set of new brake pads on the front and now the second set is squealling like crazy so there has to be a problem with the brakes to, could you please make diamond chrysler do recalls to fix these problems before any one else is killed or seriously hurt, i have been to your web site and seen and read hundreds and hundreds of complaints about these sqame problems. thank you. *ak

On 8-4-01, i placed my 1999 jeep in park and left the suv to get directions on parking at a sporting event. a friend of mine, was in a vehicle in front of me and looked back and noticed that my jeep was backing up all by itself? i ran back, caught it and luckly my 2yr old son and no one around was physically injured or worse. no damage to any other vehicle was caused, but i am concerned that this occured and never has happened in the past. i called jeep and all they could tell me was to report this to you and that they are cooperating with your agency on this issue. at this time, there is nothing they can do for me. ??

There is a loud noise coming from the drive train of the vehicle. believe it may be related to the rear differential. the jeep dealer at the 30,000 mile service put the wrong fluid in and it was driven before i caught it. all the seals under the vehicle leaked again at 59,000 and another jeep dealer supposedly replaced the fluids with the right type. *jb

Total of 4 total brake(rotor/pad) repairs needed alomg with: rear diff, oil seals, calipers, steering stabilizers, brake lines. all mileage is highway with little brakage.*ak

While driving in 2 wheel drive on a highway at @50 mph, the car shifted itself into 4-wheel drive. we were approx 10 miles from a dealership, so we took it to darling automall in ellsworth, me. they test drove it and could not get the car to go back to 2-wheel drive. they disassembled parts of the transmission and found some components in the transfer case had failed. it has taken 5 days for the repair to be completed (we have not picked up vehicle at this writing) we contacted jeep regarding this problem.*ak

While the jeep was in park, the gear shifted into reverse and hit a telephone pole. *ak

When vehicle was shifted into reverse from the park it jumped backwards, approximately 7 to 8 feet, and was stopped when consumer slammed on brakes. driver was experiencing back pain from this incident, and has not been examined by a doctor yet. *ak *jb

Put car in park with engine running and got out to take a picture when someone told consumer to watch out because vehicle had started to roll backwards. consumer's arm was injured trying to get out of vehicle's path. consumer has yet to contact dealer. please provide any further information.*ak

Vehicle was placed in park position and vehicle suddenly disengaged and jumped out of gear into reverse which caused vehicle to accelerate into traffic. consumer has contacted dealer. please provide any further details.*ak

The car was left running while in park. the vehicle evidently shifted into reverse it then rolled down an embankment and hit a mail box post before someone was able to get into the vehicle to get ist stoped. the only damage to the vehicle was the left front door hinge was sprung resulting in the door not closing properly. i have contacted chrysler and they sent someone to investigate. the reply i received back was that there was no problem and they would not be responsible for any damages to the vehicle.*ak

Pe01-021, shifting into park with engine idling ,vehicle will roll backwards, consumer noticed gear shift popped into reverse on its own. *ak consumer stated as soon as she took her foot off of the brake, the vheicle immediately began to go in reverse. *slc

I am trying to get more details on media reports of a federal investigation now going on regarding jeep cherokees from 1995 through 1999 models regarding defect in shifting mechanism from park to reverse. my car has an erratic,rough and noisy shift from park to reverse. i feel there is some problem. so far i cant get anyone to talk about it. how about some help???*ak

Theere was a clunking noise when stopping. consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they replaced driveshaft. please provide any further information.*ak

Vehicle lurches forward in reverse. dealer took 6 months to find a remedy. dealer has no remedy for vehicle potintially going in reverse. problem can't be duplicated. *ak

Vehicle was parked with engine running, emergency brake not applied, and vehicle suddenly went backward. consumer was able to jump in ,and stop vehicle. no injuries.*ak

The transmission will not lock into the park position. it will slip into gear without pressing the button on the automatic stick shift.*ak

Key could not be taken out of ignition because of shifter not locking in the park position. shifter would move form park to reverse and drive without depressing the button on the shifter. usually, this has to be held in to shift in and out of gears. but now it will shift gears if it is even bumped.

Several times prior to complete power failure, vehicle decelerated on its own with a small jar as if tapped from rear, then @ 45 mph i lost complete power, no steering ability, power brakes gone, coasted to stop. no indicator lights prior to power loss, turned off a/c, radio etc. vehicle re-started. i took to dealer next day. they had it for 3 days, & only replaced battery. picked up vehicle on 6/28 & 6/30 vehicle shut down @ 45-50 mph same scenario, took back to dealer and they replaced module-powertrain control. picked up 07/03, drove less than 10 mi & vehicle started the deceleration problem again.*ak

Over a period of several weeks, the transmission behaved erraticallty, often shifting out of gear into neutral or from neutral into drive. these shifts would occur when the engine was running but with no one touching the gear shift lever. most often, this occurred at stop signs or lights. then, on june 20, the transmission shifted into low gear on its own and remained locked there. fortunately, no accidents or injuries have occurred. however, since taking the vehicle in for transmission repair or replacement, the dealer seems unable to fix the vehicle and has not been able to return it to me. this suggests a substantial and potentially inherent transmission problem with serious safety implications.*ak

Vehicle experienced major pulsation when braking, the brake and disc rotors were warped, dealer replaced those and a a pad kit, shoe kit parking brake, shoe kit rear disc brake, seal axle drive shaft, and brake shoe and lining assembly, about 6000 mile later, problem returned, brake pads and rotors were replaced along with the shoe kit front disc brake. gear kit center differential, gear kit ring and pinion, bearing -drive pinion, shimdrive pinion, seal drive pinion, and shim differential pinion were replaced. about 12000 miles later, vehicle is experiencing brake pulsation again, dealership is stating the vehicle has rotor runnout front and rear, this will be the fourth set of brakes on this vehicle, consumer states this is a safety hazard that continues to occur. *slc

Jeep went into reverse gear without applying the brake then shifting. 12 year old daughter was in the passenger seat with the car running. she reached over to the keys in the ignition to check on a house key when the car suddenly started rollong backwards. the jeep rolled backwards with the passenger door open, hitting a minivan and a ram van. open door is what stopped the jeep from rolling further, but caused extensive damage to passenger side of car. dealer was notified of incident. dmx investigator was called. dmx investigastor found no defect. *ak

The vehicle was turned on and still in park when it suddenly began to roll backwards out of the garage, the open door scraped a parked minivan and caught the front of another minivan and came to rest after doing extensive damage to the jeep as well as damaging both vans. nlm

Front differentials and the rear differentials and propellar shaft had to be replaced, now experiencing lots of stalling and engine would die whenever coming to a stop, sometime it seems to lunge forward and just die, installed new transmission

Experienced auto slipping from park into reverse while vehicle was running and unoccuppied. same situation reported in article on cnn.com on 4 jul 2001. *ak

My jeep popped out of park with engine running and reversed into street, through the neighbor's yard, before finally coasting to a slow enough speed reversing up a hill that i could jump in and stop it. i was injured trying to catch up to the vehicle and open the door to get in just as it started rolling backward. damage was to the neighbor's yard.

We have had the rotors "shaved" at 12,000 miles, supposedly replaced at 22,000 miles and started having problems again at 31000 miles car vibrates violently, driver seat belt keeps jamming, the differential had to be replaced and the fuel pump had to be replaced

Vehicle had come to a stop, engine running, put vehicle in reverse, and it started backward slower than normal. he then applied brakes to come to a stop, applied brakes, and put vehicle in drive. suddenly vehicle went backward, consumer applied brake hard to get vehicle to stop. no injuries. *ak

Transmission defect caused jeep to jump from park to reverse after the vehicle was put in park. the driver's door was torn off the jeep (by the garage wall) before it could be stopped from rolling out of the garage. the resulting cost to replace the door, paint the new door, back door and front panel and replace electrical system in door (plus towing), was $2317.35. receipt from body shop of jeep dealership (champion autoplex) available.*ak

When putting vehicle into reverse from park, the engine makes a very loud metal to metal sound. dealer said that they couldn't duplicate problem so there wan't anything they could do. this happened three times and the last time, the power completely failed on the vehicle.

I parked my car while it was idling. when i got out the car was not moving. about 5 seconds after i shut the door and was walking away, the car started rolling backwards almost hitting a pedestrian. there was a passenger inside of the car who had locked the doors when i got out and then was unable to put the car into park and stop it. she stopped it by turning the car off and pulling the emergency brake. due to the doors being locked and the speed the car was eventually rolling, i was unable to get into the car to stop it.

Car was idling in park. was there for about 5 minutes when i heard a crash - had gone into reverse and crashed into a light pole. dealer said no way could that have happened, but i saw you were investigating this - i know that the dealer won't include this in a report. it is very dangerous and not my fault! thanks!*ak

While car was in park and consumer got out , closed garage, and vehicle started to go backwards. another time pulled up to garage, put car in park, and while in vehicle, it started to go backwards. consumer couldn't remember if it was in park. took vehicle to dealer, and they stated no recall.*ak

Car rolled backwards on slight incline while in park once with engine on and once with engine off. i took it in to my dealer and they said nothing was wrong. today i read about your investigation and since i had a similar problem thought i should file a report. now i always use the parking brake so i'm not sure if there is still a problem.*ak

Consumer put vehicle into park and exited vehicle, vehicle began to move, so consumer jumped in to try to stop it, however consumer hit accelerator instead of the brake causing faster acceleration and a crash, consumer was injured in accident due to being pinned between two vehicles and being dragged by the vehicle. *slc

Vehicle has been to dealer 5 times now for very rough idle, engine sag, idle undershoot, etc. pcm has been reprogrammed with current software, etc. dealer called chrysler and was told no fix is available for this condition. vehicle shakes and tries to die. very unsafe to drive as may die when trying to pull out. dealer basically says chrysler knows of the problem but won't fix it properly.*ak
