Car has been repeatedly stalling when going into a turn or coming to a stop. low oil pressure light will flash at times while driving. stalls and low oil pressure warning flash sometimes occur at the same time, sometimes do not. car recently stalled while going 35mph on a highway. requires stopping car, putting into park, and then restarting, which takes 10-15 seconds for starter to get engine to turn over. when at idle in park, throttle does not respond to gas pedal.
When putting the car in reverse it would go straight untill it kicked back in gear. on highway gear switched on its own slowed down and kicked back in. i could of got in s major accident. i just brought the car on 01/17/2020
Car stalled 4 times in the last 4 months while at stop lights. i was stopped at light and when i went to move again the car stalled-all panel lights flashed and car would not turn on again. after multiple attempts the car finally started. after the most recent occurrence i drove immediately to the nearest midas because oi was afraid to drive it any farther. they ran diagnostics and could not find a definitive answer. the battery was fine.
Car will not start. starts and then shuts off. not battery related.
Engine stalls at any speed due to low oil. 2.4 engine has excessive oil consumption to the degree of shutting down in between 5000 mile oil changes. engine has 30,000 miles and uses 3 quarts between changes "apparently". chrysler says 1 quart per 2000 miles!!! on a new vehicle, this is totally unacceptable!
2 times the same incident occurred 6 months apart, once in june 2019 mileage 22046 and once in december 2019 mileage 28423. bought the car brand new in 2017. oil is dissappearing!! the oil pressure low light will flash on - there is a loss of power - while driving - no warning! then the light will go off. drive to oil change business to have them check the oil level and the jeep will be 3 to 3.5 quarts low. no leak present or oil seen. engine seems to slip while driving before this happens.
The stop/start battery had to be replaced. within 2 months the car battery had to be replaced. this was because the stop/start engine died various times. the car would not start for over 10 minutes. a month after fixing it , it stalled again. i am 65 years old and this is very unsafe. i stop at a stop sign and start to go and it dies. it seems that the stop/start engine has to be stopped for a period of time before you can go.
Vehicle shuts down while operating. took it to the dealer and the dealer said it uses a quart of oil every 500 miles thereby by causing engine to shut down during operation. dealer stated chrysler is aware of problem and no solutions have been provided yet. dealer also stated to get an oil change every 3000 miles. this vehicle has 33,720 miles and was purchased jun 2017.
My vehicle has 15562 miles on it and is 400 miles from it's oil change. when driving vehicle on neighborhood streets it would randomly stall and shut off causing a loss of power steering and vehicle acceleration. when we arrived home we did a once over on the engine and the oil dip stick was bone dry. we called our local dealership and they mentioned that they had seen several jeep compasses with the same issue.*dt consumer stated our vehicle was about 300 miles shy of the 5000 mile suggested oil change from jiffy lube (per mfg's spec). so 4700 miles since previous oil change.*jb
I came down a hill in my neighborhood, street then became level and i came to stop sign, i stopped and my engine died and my emergency brake came on. i had to remove foot from brake, put back on brake, restart engine and then i could disengage emergency brake. dealer is telling me this because it was low on oil. but i wasn't even due for a few hundred miles for an oil change.
On saturday, 10/5/19 while driving vehicle for only a minute and making a right turn, the oil light came on (oil pressure low) and then turned off. i then stopped my vehicle and waited about an hour before checking the oil and it was down almost 2 1/2 quarts. this is only after approximately 3,200 miles since the last oil change. i went t to jeep service in garden city, ny first thing monday morning and was told by 2 different service workers that it is normal to burn through a quart of oil every 1500 miles. * this is not normal*
Problem started around 43k mileage. when turning, the "low oil pressure" light would come on, then the engine would stall and sometimes the emergency brake would activate and stop the car. i would have to shut vehicle off and then turn back on to operate. this happened on side streets and once on highway. took car into golling (dealer) and they said oil was very low. i had just had oil changed about 3k miles prior to that. dealer told me that "these engines are known to burn oil". they told me to bring it back at 2k miles to have the oil checked. at 2k miles, the oil was low again and they did an oil change and told me to bring it back at 1k miles. i brought it back at 1k miles they needed to "top it off" and told me to bring it back again at 2k miles. the dealer also mentioned that if next oil check it was showing low, they may need to replace engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep compass. the contact stated that the vehicle burned excessive oil. the vehicle was taken to james chrysler dodge jeep ram (13007 wicker ave, cedar lake, in 46303, (219) 267-1226) where the vehicle was tested for oil consumption every 500 miles. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 21,008. *bf*jb
Start/stop system stopped working and then burned out regular battery, preventing car from starting. system continues to operate intermittently, stopping the car when its not fully warmed up and other times not stopping the car when the car is fully warmed up.
On 6.22.2019 i purchased a jeep compass certified. i had the jeep for 10 days before the jeep will no longer start. the jeep had to be towed to the nearest jeep dealership. the diagnosis is that the jeep's timper is no longer working. this is a pre-existing issue that the jeep dealership on route 4 , paramus,nj was well aware of when the sold me the jeep. i do not have a loaner car to get to or from work.......
Vehicle has been in the shop four times. all have been control module related. we lose all exterior lights. vehicle will randomly shut off while in drive. now we are having an issue with the vehicle not accelerating and is idling rough. all of these happened while the vehicle was in motion. this has been over a span of the past year.
As i was driving on an 8 lane expressway my vehicle experienced an engine stall while driving. i immeditaely tunred on my hazard lights to alert other drivers and crossed 7 lanes to come to a complete stop as i could no longer accelerate. i turned off my vehicle, turned to the on position to allow all dahsboard lights to turn off and then off. i turned my vehicle back on and continued to drive to my desitnation but this time when it happened i just was going up a hill, cars in front and behind me i was right in the middle of the intersection with another engine stall while driving. i need to be added to the manufactures list of the know defect of their voluntary recall they initatiated. my car is not safe to drive and becuase this is intermittent i can not recreate this issue at the dealership. i am not on the list of a recall even though i am having engine stalls while driving. * 'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *jb
Since i've had my car the main screen with maps, weather, radio, etc. has shut off randomly, my speakers have turned up to the max they could go all by themselves without letting me turn anything off, the weather constantly pops up after i've cleared it. all of this was fixed with replacing the whole screen. but then after the system would not save my setting for the first 5 times i started it back up. i had to keep saving them. it has had multiple issues, i've had to get different tires replaced at least 3-4 times and air leaks, the last being because the belt broke in them. i have an appointment to get my front usb replaced because it randomly stopped working. i've had to get other parts replaced that control my driving and now it won't start. the lights, radio, gauges, etc. all work but the gauges make a tick sound but the engine won't start. there has been two times that it says my car is running but the engine isn't on. i've had my side lights that come on when i turn randomly not work but i'm not sure if that is something i'm doing. i have to read the manual more.
Takara recall. i woke up in the am to go to meet my friend, stated jeep, it was running funny.so i put in reverse and pukked out of driveway, got to a stop sign, jeep would not go, no gas or just like it was running out of gas.parking brake went on had to shut it off and start it again. than pulled on to hywy 65 and it like stalled, no gas power att all, steering was hard ,could not turn the wheel. and check engine lite went on,! and checked the oil because that keeps going on to.(just got an oil change)had too put in 2 quarts of oil. it is going somewhere? if there was alot of traffic i would have been killed. there are days my radio has a mind of it's own? it will just change channels or freeze up. my passenger window has a mind of it own somedays it will role downbeat ok , next day or hours it wont work again? all thede malfuntions makes my anxiety off the charts. it is sad when it is your vehicle and your scared to drive it. i have 4 recalls and no one told me ,i had to look them up to get them. that is horrible peoples lives are in danger! i hope that someone else doesnt have to be scared to dive there jeep. like me.
The vehical (2017 jeep compass trailhawk) automatically shut down and inhaled the parking break while the car was in motion on a busy street without any indication of an issue by the dashboard. the vehical took several attempts to turn back on. once it was back on, i was able to get the vehical to the dealership and they indicated that the oil level was at the bottom of the dip stick. the vehical wasn't at its required oil change yet and no indication of low oil or low oil pressure was indicated to me through its safety system.
My daughter purchased a brand new 2017 jeep compass from papas dodge in new britain, ct. the stop/start feature on this vehicle intermittently fails. when this occurs the vehicle is in motion and the engine stalls causing loss of steering and brakes. the dealer apparently can not emulate the problem but they do not drive it on a daily basis. my daughter is terrified to drive this car and was almost in an accident as a result. also, this vehicle has excessive oil consumption. have to add 1 1/2 quart between oil changes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep compass. on several occasions, while driving 50 mph, the vehicle sputtered and shut off. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat manhattan (678 11th ave, new york, ny 10019, (212) 549-2208) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 52481054. the approximate failure mileage was 6,000.
My 2017 jeep compass has only 14,000 miles on it. i made a turn today and noticed the low oil indicator came on. i immediately told my husband and he checked the oil and it wasn't even showing up on the dip stick. it caused my engine to turn off in an intersection and i had to hope that i could get out of the intersection without getting hit. i managed to get it turned back on and the emergency brake was automatically engaged when the engine turned off. i disengaged the emergency brake and started my engine and made it home. we did add 3 quarts of oil. so, i researched this "problem" online and found many people having the same problem with this engine burning oil like crazy. i'm not sure if my engine is damaged or not (due to the oil being basically dry). i am planning on taking it in to the dealership. we added oil to get it back to the normal level, but to me we just covered up the problem. a new motor should not burn through 4 1/2 quarts of oil in 5,000 miles. something needs to be done. i feel like my $30,0000.00 vehicle is a lemon.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep compass. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the power steering, brakes, and all electrical and mechanical functions failed to operate. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after approximately four attempts. the vehicle was taken to atlantic dodge chrysler jeep ram (located at 2330 us-1, st, augustine, fl 32086, (904) 797-4383) where it was diagnosed that there may be bad fuel in the vehicle. the vehicle was refueled; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for another diagnostic test. the contact was informed that the oil was below the minimum oil level. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 14,000. *tt consumer stated that the oil be checked once a week by the dealer. consumer stated there are no warnings or warnign lights to indicate the problem client is checking the oil consistently 1 quart low for every 2000 miles.*jb
I was on hwy going speed limit and the car in front stopped really fast and i put on my brakes and the engine got more power like the gas paddle was stuck i could not stop i had to go down the shoulder about a mile before the truck would stop and i was pushing down on the brake the whole time
Around 8:50am october 4th, 2018 my wife and baby were at a city street red light stopped and upon accelerating the car completely shut off and the steering-wheel locked up. after about 5 minutes she was able to start it up again. we live in the city so this could have been much worse at any different light at any time of day. i brought it in first thing the next morning to the dealership and was told that low oil can cause airpockets in the engine shutting the whole vehicle off. the jeep tech said "this has been seen a lot on newer jeeps in these multi-air engines. people come in for the same reason and have no indication of what caused it. when they first came out we had to diagnose a lot and 99.9% of the time that is the cause." my car was at ~11,200 miles, and my oil change sticker suggested ~11,600 to get it changed again. i had no oil light, let alone wasn't even close to the certified tech's oil change sticker that is placed on the car. this is completely unsafe and not acceptable. the tech suggested keeping a quart of oil in my car and checking the oil every 1-2k miles (in a brand new vehicle!). the dealership gm called me and asked if i wanted to trade in my vehicle for its worth to get me in something else since i wasn't satisfied, basically brushing off the major issue at hand. i explained i want this vehicle gone and refunded completely. he mentioned i could try my luck with the fca. i put in a complaint through jeep, and a rep by the name of steve stander called 4 times throughout the following week and left no voicemail. i looked up his # to verify he was calling from chrysler. starting from the first missed call i left him a voicemail telling him the best time was any time after 12:30pm pst. the next 3 attempts he made were still in the early morning, ignoring my vm's.
Engine oil and stalling. i went for my 2nd oil change 8/27/2018. the service tech and a mechanic listened when i said the oil was basically gone and my husband had to add 2 quarts. i even checked all the system warnings and there is none for low oil. when pulling out into an intersection the car totally shut off at 4 different times. so the mechanic said yes those 2.4 engines burn 1 quart each 1000 miles and when the oil is low the engine will just stop. i asked about why there are no warning lights, the mechanic again said yes there is not one. having a car just shut off is so dangerous. it could have been a terrible accident if another car was coming any of those 4 shut offs. also my car jerks when shifting gears. the service tech commented i needed a computer upgrade. while there for the oil change supposedly the upgrade was done. it just jerk again the other day when the transmission was shifting. this car is just a year old - all of these issues are terrible and dangerous.
Takata recall, bought the car in april 2018 and after 2 months i started experiencing a strange kick coming from the engine while driving, i took it numerous times to the jeep dealership and could never find the problem until 7 months later when it statted to do it kore often. after some research and talking to other jeep owners with the same car i found out it was a manufacturer defect. unfortunately, by the time the dealership realized it was a defect, my warranty had expired. 2 days ago, my car completely went out and didn't turn on, i had to tow it to the dealership and now i am being charged over two-thousand dollars to get an electrical problem fixed. on too of making my monthly payments, i have to pay out of pocket for a lemon vehicle i purchased.
Purchased dec 2017. almost immediately began experiencing a problem whenever the speedometer dropped to 31 mph, there was an aggressive downshift that felt as if i was being rear ended. problem frequent yet intermittent. often radio would not turn on or off when the engine was on or off. fear of battery draining was often. loss of volume control when vehicle was parked.. each month, random errors would flash. by july 3, it had become so frequent withshifting problems and problems with lighting, windows, sunroof, it was taken to collierville cdjr for service. that day all the codes started flashing across dash while vehicle was in motion on highway. there were 4 pages of diagnostic error codes. tech erik jeter said a tcm flash update was available for transmission shift quality. must update pcm and tcm also. there were multiple dtcs for all turn signals and lamps. determined cause to be faulty body control module and internal failure. this was allegedly replaced, despite being originally told of a recall and backorder of parts that could last 6 months. car out of service for 10 days. problems began again within a week of vehicles return. it was taken to landers cdjr for service on august 9, 2018. i have not heard back from dealer. then the backup cameras began freezing and would stay while car in motion. windows stopped working. on september 1, 2018 my vehicle was found to be sitting behind the service department along side more than a dozen other new jeep compass vehicles with stop sale/do not sell written across windows. it has been a total of 35 days out of service. this vehicle needs to be declared a lemon so i can replace it with a working car.
Engine uses oil. have to add oil several times before next oil change is due.
02/05/2018......bought the vehicle november 2017. twice already while driving on the highway through rush hour traffic the dash display started flashing erratically and the car lost all power, a total shut down. no radio, no dash, no brakes, no steering. luckily traffic was moving each time. after approximately a city block the car restarts. dealer tested the car and could not replicate the problem after driving it 20 miles with a computer connected. i feel this can be life threatening and should be investigated before the inevitable happens. i have 2 small children and my wife with me most of the time. they recommend driving it to see if it happens again. i'm no longer comfortable driving this vehicle.
Engine has excessive oil consumption which causes the vehicle to just stall out. recommended 5000 oil changes but dealers will say 3000 and to check oil every 2 days because it may need 4-5 qts between oil changes. this started within 5 months of driving it off the showroom floor. dealer and chrysler corp are aware of issues but no fix has been discovered not do they care. my daughter and her 2 babies were almost killed when it just stalled exiting a major freeway and an 18 wheeler right behind her...case manager (3rd case since 2017) at fca was 'oh, so scary'. this is a serious, deadly issue and dealers omit things from the system, perform the consumption tests improperly or don't record them at all so they will not have to do what's right. the vehicle will totally shut down while turning, emergency brake will apply and it takes a bit to get it started again. sometimes lights on dash will all flash on or sometimes just the oil light (even within 2 weeks of an oil change).
I purchased my 2017 jeep compass trail hawk brand new, my production date is april 26, 2017. i have had endless issues w/ this vehicle, i have owned other jeeps and never had these issues. it started w/ my radio making this crazy indescribably loud sound along w/ freezing the screen. turning off the radio would not stop the sound, not even turning off the entire vehicle would stop the sound. serv dept could never replicate, i brought it in one time when radio was on a non-existent phone call and acting up. they took my car and turned it off, next day told me they couldn't replicate. i demanded that the girl who took my car in and saw what was going on speak with the tech to explain what she saw. they agreed to order me a new radio. additionally i began having issues w/ jeep throwing on random dash indicator lights and not starting. tcm pin was spreading and causing indicators b battery controlling stop/start tested bad. they replaced. i had already replaced my a battery a day or so before. damage wires found at fuse box (they blamed me) i have made zero mods to car or even lifted the hood myself. bcm replaced. i had issue w/ engine cutting off while driving in road & pulling ebrake before i'm due for oil change. had oil consumption test done and they say it's fine, this is because chrysler makes up the consumption standard. so you will always be "fine." this it to prevent you from getting to compression test. i go in many times for this same issue. eventually, i demand with fca that they allow compression test and replace my engine when they discover it's due to oil consump. tech reports oil low, sprk plug cyl 3 is oil fouled, compress. test done air is felt from oil fill, bore scope of cyl 3 walls are scored and have oil on them. fca approves new engine for me. after new eng. i drive 13 mi eng is over heating. t-stat clamp replaced. do not give up & document well!
Three times now the auto/start stop feature has failed to restart the vehicle after it has automatically shut off. when lifting my foot off the brake pedal, the vehicle hasn't restarted. once i was in the middle of traffic, waiting to turn left against oncoming traffic, so it was a dangerous situation. it took 15 seconds or so before i could restart it after placing the vehicle in park.
Car shuts off when coming to a stop when the auto off/on is turned off. engine light finally started coming on but did not at first. after restarting the car and trying to pull out it dies again sometimes leaving you in the middle of an intersection. i got stranded for about 20 minutes when it shut off. eventually i was able to get it restarted and get home with it. not sure if this is related but when turning i can hear a "ding" like a bell. there was also a light that came on which looked like a lightening bolt. i bought the car used and it has always seemed like the idol was set a little to low as it doesn't really move when you take your foot off the brake. also, when the engine went off the instrument on the dash seemed to think the car was still operational. it wouldn't shut off like if you came home and shut the engine off.
Had car 3 weeks 214 miles, when starting vehicle -check engine light came on. dealer states computer control module malfunction , now 31 days later no fix chrysler has determined car to be declared a lemon. dealer states can be 4 weeks before replacement vehicle. dealer has treated us well, been in a loaner for the 31 days will have loaner until new vehicle obtained.
