The interior electrical lighting systems often goes out while driving in below freezing temperatures. this includes all speedometer, tachometer, and dash lights for all controls. this has been a problem since i purchased the vehicle new in february 2007. after five years, the led lights illuminating the switches for the fan speed, temperature control, and heated seats. i reported this under warranty but now i am told i am responsible for repair. the dealership cannot find the electrical fault. the led switch bulbs cannot simply be replaced as the entire unit for each control must be replaced. the engine was making a pinging sound and the dealership diagnosed it wrong 3 times. this should have been repaired under warranty when first reported. many months later after warranty lapsed the dealership's corrective fix was replacing one side of the engine's hydraulic lifters. this made the problem a bit better but did not resolve it. *tr

November 24 evening leaving fuji (children in car) november 30 morning on way to work ? hit mailbox (baby in car) december 5 morning on way to work ? dies turning out of subdivision and stalls in middle of street (baby in car) there was one other instance when i had all kids with me?it was prior to nov 24 but i do not recall the actual date all of the instances the engine stalled, the lights (when on) went out, i lost the ability to steer and brake as well. the mph ranged from 4 or 5 mph to 35 mph. there were times when it was warm and days that it was cold. nothing seemed to standout as a possible "trigger" i took car to dealer after the november 24th incident. tony in the service department said there was really nothing that they could do unless it was a problem they could "make happen" when they drove it. a few days later i wrecked into a mailbox when my jeep stalled and i lost steering and braking capability....i am lucky it was not head on with a large truck or a tree. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving between 50-60 mph, the headlights would dim intermittently and illuminate again after approximately one minute. the interior lights completely failed and would flash when the door was ajar. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer. the failure mileage was 39,000 and current mileage was 40,300.

In the 5 years i have owned the 2006 jeep commander it has stalled while driving, stalled while parked. this happens at no set frequency. sometimes it happens daily, other times it will go for months and not happen. the dash lights repeatedly flash off and on. some dash lights don't work at all for months then like magic work fine for months. the vehicle sputters when accelerating all the time and at different speeds. if i am crossing or turining i need to make sure i have like 2 miles between me and oncoming traffic in case it decides to not work that time and i get stuck in the intersection. the cruise control no longer works. luckily the computer went out that controls the cruise so i can't use it. the cruise used to just speed up and slow down on its own. i will be driving along and all of a sudden without notice the car will floor itself and not stop until i put the car in neutral. regardless of what temperature i have the heater set to there is constantly extremely hot air blowing on my feet. i can not drive without shoes on or the hot air literally burns my feet. overall- there are some serious electrical and mechanical issues with the jeep commander. i googled jeep commander and there are hundreds (i am sure thousands) of similar complaints. *js

i purchased a 2006 jeep commander last year. i have had the following items replaced on my jeep front passenger interior door panel. strange noise coming from my car that sounded like playing cards in bike tires ended with replacing front axel ring and pinion. car kept popping out of gear the entire gear shift was replaced. my passenger window had to be fixed it kept sticking halfway up. i had a problem where my car kept stalling. i was told the first time that no error appears on the computer and jeep knew of no issue with cars stalling so maybe it was bad gas. it died several more times and finally they did replace a part inside the idol. i also had an issue where my headlights kept turning off as i drove or would flash on and off. they replaced the headlight switch. i have had the rubber stripping from my back driver side window come off and now it is occurring on the passenger side. from the beginning i have told them i do not feel my transmission is working properly that it shifts hard and when i shift from reverse to drive there is a big hesitation. i have been told no error is appearing on computer and that jeep as usual has no known issues so they had no suggestions. once again they thought it was a gas issue moving from winter to summer blend. the last time i had it in when it was stalling i told them it the transmission was still hesitating and would make a pop noise at times then it would go. it is still occurring and at times the car acts like it might not shift into drive. i am satisfied with how my dealership is working with me they are doing their best to help me. i blame jeep/chrysler all you have to do is search the web to see that there are so many others just like me with the exact same issue. they need to recall these cars now and if they can not find the problem then replace them for us. *tr

Turn signals have 4 modes right turn or left turn - moving switch "fully-up" or "fully-down" locks it into a "right" or "left" mode until cancelled right lane change or left lane change - moving the switch "partially-up" or "partially-down" against a detent signals a lane change to the "right" or "left" that is immediately cancelled upon release conditions exist where the left lane change mode does not activate. this was reported and the conditions to duplicate the situation were demonstrated. the dealer agreed that the switch should not behave in the manner demonstrated and attempted to repair the issue by replacing the switch. on delivery, the turn signal still malfunctioned under the same conditions. the vehicle was again taken to the same dealer a second time. the dealer researched the issue by recreating the conditions on other vehicles on the lot and determined that the condition is intrinsic to the design of the switch and relates a design fault in the switch and not a bad part. one generally activates the signal with ones hands still on the steering wheel. therefore, pushing down to activate the left lane change mode, as applied with the index or middle finger, creates both a "downward" and "forward" force on the stalk due to the angle of application. when applied, that is a "downward" force to activate the left lane change signal mode along with a "forward" force as one would expect based on the angle of application, the left lane change signal mode fails the operate because the contact in the turn signal switch lifts off its mating contact and opens the circuit. i have gone through the motions to activate the left lane change signal mode, thinking that it had activated, only to find that the signal did not operate as it should have. this poses a safety hazard as other motorists are not alerted to my intentions and may not compensate for my intended lane change and also subjects me to a violation of my state vehicle code. *jb
