We have classified the 51 complaints from 2006 Jeep Commander about SEAT BELTS into the following categories.
The seat belt wont latched unless you press down the released button on both driver and passenger. also the panels leaked on passenger side and the top.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the front and passenger side seat belts would not properly lock. when connecting the seat belt, the red button had to be pressed in order for it to lock and secure. once locked, the warning indicator would erroneously illuminate, indicating that the seat belt was not locked. the cause of the failure was not determined. reedman toll chrysler jeep (300 baltimore pike, springfield, pa) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 49,000.
When moving at a speed of greater than 3mph, the passengers seat seatbelt sensors indicates the passenger is not wearing a seat belt and sings constantly. the system does not register that the seatbelt is engaged.
First the seat belt wouldn't click into place without pressing down the red button. now even if you do that the seat belt light/dings will be on throughout the ride. i see on the internet many others having this issue.
While raining water drains into vehicle from sunroof causing electrical problems. lights constantly flickering, dashboard lights constantly turning on and off, interior water damage, rusting inside components. this incident happens constantly forcing me to keep headlights on high beam at all times while the car is stationary as well as in motion on streets as well as highways. this problem causes unnecessary problems being that while the car is going through this the turning signals, wiper blades, air conditioning turn off and on. even though my car was serviced under warranty for rear seatbelts the belts are constantly jamming keeping my children captive and at some points it will not successfully latch.
Front driver and passenger seat belts can only be buckled if the release button is depressed. seat belt warning light is on.
The door handles have completely disentegrated an the windows no longer operate. the seat belts work intermittently and the door locks unlock an lock at random. the engine starts an stops on it's own. this vehicle was my dream vehicle but now i feel totally endangered by the lack of care and design by jeep. i feel it is a ticking time bomb ready to cause danger at some point to me or my family
Vehicle was sold with no lights in back, including break and reverse lights, broken seat belts in back seats and one back seat that does not fold down which blocks rear view, and finally with bald tires that needed to be replaced immediately. the lights were supposedly fixed by the dealership's repair shop but after only a few weeks the lights were not working. the seat belts were supposed to be replaced and we were told that replacements were ordered but the dealership never called back to confirm that they arrived and ready for installation, they still have not been replaced. we were told that the tires and seat folding down were not safety issues and had to replace the tires ourselves. the seat still does not fold down and the lights on the back of the vehicle still don't stay on.
Passenger side seatbelt is shorter than driver side. passenger seatbelt is always tight on the average size person.
The 2nd row seat belt buckle moves up so there for the seat belt wont latch enless you move plastic covering down also the jeep shifts hard when put in reverse or drive
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the front driver and passenger side seat belts failed to latch correctly. the contact stated that the seat belt warning indicator illuminated and an audible indicator was heard while driving. the vehicle was taken to the jeep store (810 nj-35, ocean township, nj 07712 (732) 774-6500) where it was diagnosed with a seat belt assembly failure that needed replacement. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the contact googled the failure and found many complaints for the seat belt failure. the failure mileage was approximately 205,000.
Rear seatbelt latches are breaking, and susceptible to breakage. the orange release button on the seatbelts break easily. my concern is that it will happen when there's an emergency and the occupant may not be able to exit the vehicle due to the defective material in the latch release, possibly trapping the occupant. i suspect that the material used for these plastic release latches was incorrectly specified, and became brittle over time.
Seat belt warning chime continually sounds when front driver or passenger seat belts are latched, the seats are occupied, and the vehicle is in motion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v461000 (air bags, seat belts); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the transmission, the catalytic converter, and the windshield wipers failed. the contact also stated that the vehicle failed to shift gears and the seat belt failed to retract. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission solenoid and the catalytic converter sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the seat belt and the windshield wiper motor were not replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The seat belts in my third row, which i use maybe 10% of the time are broken. they broke way too early in my cars life. i never knew that i could report it until my mechanic said to. i called jeep to let them know that its a safety issue and i would like them replaced, and they declined to do so. i have had many jeep new and very old and the seat belts were never an issue, which makes me think these seat belts were defective or maybe the way the 3rd row folds down is the cause.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the rear seat belts failed to buckle. also, the front driver and passenger side head rests failed to push up. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was not taken to dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not provided. the failure mileage was 148,000.
I have to hold the red latch in order to buckle and the seat belt light constantly chimes while driving. *tr
To whom this may concern, i called back in late 2014 about a problem i was having, i was told that when the part was made i would receive a call to bring my car in to be fixed. well it keeps on happening again in january and now more then three time in february. i am now going to be in contact with a lawyer and together we will be documenting everything. i am a family of five and my car is not safe. your company is giving me the run around and it is your responsibility. these things that are happening with my car is filed from the national highway traffic safety administration with recall report electrical system, electrical system: ignition: switch and rear seat belts. my car keeps on shutting off. i have had myself and my children in the car when this has happened. i saved us too many times. there has been times when my car shut down and i lost breaks and steering. there was multi times when i am driving and all of my lights start going crazy. now i have a problem that i tried starting my car and the lights go on but my ignition will not turn on the car. another phone call was made to the corporate office and the dealership to complain again. we where told that they are still waiting for the parts to come in they are on back order. every day i have to drive this car with and without my children we are at risk. your responsible, i have had two other jeeps and loved them never had a problem like this before. so i don't know what else to do i need to work and transport my children to and from different school/sports activities. if something happens to me or my family it will lie on you and your company. enough is enough i am scared for my life and my children please help me!!!!! *tr
My daughters were in the 3rd row seating when they went to buckle their seatbelts and they would not click in. they were both broken and would not stay attached. the plastic casing is falling off of them and they are not safe. the 3rd row right seat would not fold down. the latch that should be pulled would not engage and now the seat will not fold down. lastly, the drivers side interior door handle crumbled inward and is not able to be used to open the door. i took my car to the dealer and they stated that it was my problem as it is not covered under the extended care warranty i purchased for $2500 and i would have to pay $700 for the door handle and $300 for seat belts and $100 for the seat to fold. i explained that the above was all safety issues and should be fixed by manufacturers and they said that it wasn't covered. i even told them that i saw the recalls and they told me that it wasn't for my jeep. this needs to be fixed by the manufacturer and considered a recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. when the vehicle was started, the air bag warning light illuminated continuously. in addition, the driver and passenger seat belts failed to retract. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the seat belts needed to be replaced, but the air bag failure was undetermined. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Both front seat belts do not operate as expected. in order to use them, one must depress the red unlatch button in order to insert metal buckles into the latches. i am writing to report the seat belt operational hazard as it appears from some research that this is a common problem on this model and similar year range jeep grand cherokee models.
My eight year-old daughter was sitting in the third-row seat on the passenger side as we drove down the freeway. she leaned forward in her seat and the metal part of the seat belt retractor completely broke off above the bolt and below the buckle. this car was involved in a minor fender-bender two years ago (with no one sitting in that seat),but is otherwise accident-free. as a mother of four small children, this malfunction is of extreme concern. i do my best to comply with all the car seat laws, but what does it matter if the seat belts themselves fail? *tr
I purchased my jeep commander on february 12, 2014. a week after i purchased it my check light came on so i took it back to the dealership. it was for my catalytic converter. the people in the garage stated it was just a sensor and not to worry about it i told them to fix it while it was still covered under my warranty. they wouldn't. the next day all of the dome lights and dashboard lights in my truck started flickering while driving down the road. (still does it to this day). soon after my brakes went out on me while driving down the road with my kids so i had to get the calipers and everything changed. next it was the windows they all stopped working. the end of january 2015, while driving down the road again with my children, all of the lug nuts and bolts fell off of my tire rear passenger side tire. i ended up calling the tow truck and took it back to the dealership where i bought it. $2500 and two weeks later i get my truck back, have it for a day & it starts jerking on my way to work. they fixed everything that had to do with my tires and suspension. they also inform me i need my catalytic converter changed after they told me not to worry about it it's just the sensor acting funny. (it could've been fixed when i asked them to do it while it was covered under my warranty) now my lights start flashing my wheel speed sensors aren't working and is messing with my abs system and traction. they just tell me to shut the traction off while i'm driving it should fix the problem. i end up taking it back in the shop. a month later i'm driving home from work and my serpentine belt busts and i lose control of my truck. another $500 dollar job. present day, my truck is back in the shop for a routine brakes and rotors fix and they call and say i need my outer tirods fixed and rear axle something. i've put more money into this truck than i've paid for it in the past year.
The seat belt on the third row right side seat is completely stuck tight against the seat. this has to be a defect because we rarely use the third row seats on my vehicle. worst part is that i have small children that could have been hurt very badly because of the seat belt. furthermore, the seat belts on the second row seats are completely falling apart because of the low quality plastics being used by jeep. one seat belt on the second row has become completely useless because it just wont click in anymore. i have 2 other vehicles (2006 ford f150, 2005 ford focus) with which i have no trouble with the seat belts at all. in fact, the seat belts on my two other vehicles look as good as new and my children ride in them just as much as they ride my 2006 jeep commander. i have contacted chrysler and my local dealership to no avail. i notified both about the danger of my 5 and 9 year old children riding in the vehicle but have gotten no positive responses. i am writing to this government agency before i go spend hundreds of dollars to get the seat belts fixed. please respond back. *tr
The third row seat, seatbelt broke, where the belt plugs in at the bottom of the seat. it snapped of while my four year old tried to buckle up a week or so ago. this was such a potentially dangerous problem. what would have happened if it snapped while in a vehicle accident? my boy would have probably been killed. while looking online i found multiple recalls on the vehicle, one being the exact same seatbelts. i called barnett chrysler jeep dodge ram kia in maplewood, mn, who said they would help me out with one recall, but said the seatbelt issue didn?t relate to my vin. i was basically told that i was responsible to foot the bill for their faulty product. does this sound right? is there some type of moral obligation or law that helps us out from being screwed over in this sense? please get back, were taking the vehicle in tomorrow. we rely on this vehicle, there are six people in our family (four young children) and this is our family vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while coming to a stop the vehicle, the passenger's third row seatbelt latch fractured. the vehicle was inspected but, not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 117,475. updated 11/19/13*lj updated 11/26/2013 *js
We were driving along and started breaking to prepare to stop, when my 9 year old son, who was seated in the third row passenger seat, says "mom, my seat belt just broke." i turn to see what he was talking about and he handed me the whole buckle, the part that the seat belt clicks into. i was horrified. luckily we hadn't been in an accident or even stopped fast. i call the manufacturer to see what we needed to do. they told me my vehicle wasn't under warranty and they wasn't any recalls for that issue. they stated i needed to take it to a dealer to see if there was a defect. so, i did and they just told me i need to replace the part and it would cost over $300, which i don't have to spare. i ask why i would have to pay when it was clearly a defect and it's law that to have working seat belts, he said chrysler would not pay for it. the metal piece that holds it to the car or to some other piece was severed. i believe it is from the folding system. obviously there is a problem has i have seen other complaints, none as severe as mine, and a recall that was similar to my issue. something needs to be done and the manufacturer needs to be held accountable. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that when entering the vehicle, the passenger's third row seat belt would not latch properly. the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 113,700.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the front driver and rear passenger's side seat belts failed latch properly. also, the contact stated that the rear passenger's side interior door handle became fractured. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was advised that the seat belts and the door handles needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 74,000 and the current mileage was 79,000.
My 2006 jeep commander driver side seat belt wont latch. i have to hold down the red release button to force it to engage. seven days later the passenger seat belt wouldn't latch. this time even if i force the latch to engage by holding down the red release tab, it does not turn off the seat belt warning alarm. this most certainly is a recall item and so many of us are having the same problem at the same time. i am going to report also to daimler/chrysler. *tr
3rd row seatbelt, passenger side, will not come out and cannot be used. 2nd row seatbelts have deteriorated to needing replacement. *tr
I was 270 miles away from home when the passenger side seatbelt would not lock. i brought it into the local jeep dealership to inquire if there was some easy fix or if they had a part on hand. they informed me that they could in fact have the part the following day. i had to return to work the next day so that was not going to be an option. the part i was told would be a little over $300 for parts and labor. after some research i discovered that this seems to be a problem with my year of vehicle. my passenger had to ride the way home in the back seat. not exactly ideal. considering the fact that the seatbelt is quite possibly the most effective safety device of any vehicle i can not imagine jeep not putting out a recall for the safety of its consumers. i understand the concept of warranty on a vehicles engine, but a seatbelt is not something i would think needs replacement. not everyone has money to pay for this fix, nor should they be asked to pay for this serious defect that could be the difference between life and death. i love my vehicle i just expect more concern from the company that made it. *tr
The passenger seat belt does not latch. you have to hold down the red press button to latch. once latched the seat belt alarm continues to chime like is does not recognize the seat belt is latched. it's annoying but at the same time concerned if the seat belt is working properly. after researching on line there are several complaints and this should be consider a recall. *jb
My 8 year old niece was buckling her seatbelt in the third row when the locking mechanism of the seat belt broke off in her hand. what would have happened in (god forbid) an accident? it sure wouldn't have restrained her! *tr
Having front seat belt issues. they both don't lock properly. i have to hold down the red release button to lock them and now the computer does not reconize them as being locked and the seat belt warning light stays on and it chumes all the time and does not stop. is there a recall for this because i see a lot of complaints for this issue. is there an easy fix for this and can it be turned off. any help would be greatly apprieciated.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the driver's side seat belt failed to properly secure the contact. the vehicle was not taken the dealer nor was the manufacturer notified. the approximate failure mileage was 91,000. the vin was not available. mah *tr
The driver side seat belt buckle stopped functioning properly over a couple of weeks. it was hard to engage the belt then it stopped recognizing the belt was buckled and the warning continually came on. passenger side is now doing same. i had driver's buckle replaced at a whopping cost of approx. $400. *tr
My jeep commander driver and passenger seat belts do not lock into place correctly. to get them to lock you have to press and hold in the red release button, then to unlock the seat belt you have to press the red release button. now as of november 22, 2012 the passenger seat belt is hard to lock into place even when pushing the button.the alarm goes off as if it is not engaged and the light on the dash lights up and chimes continuously. i called chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 on november 26, 2012 and was told that there are no recalls. i was told i would have to take it in and pay for a diagnostic and then call back and maybe something can be done. she gave me a reference number, but said that she is still closing the case. when this happened i looked online and found many complaints for the exact same issue. this is a serious safety hazard and should be handled properly by chrysler since it is a defect. i hardly even drive this car and have had older cars which i drove more often that never had any issues. with this same vehicle i had to deal with the stall issues for several months before it was fixed. every time i took it to the dealership i was told that they would have to have it happen while they have it to diagnose it. i have had a wrangler in the past too that had problems. *tr
Second roll seatbelt plastic red casing around the release button broke first on passenger side replaced that one then on drivers side this caused seatbelts to unbuckle easily with a slight tug of belt very dangerous with small children. *tr
The 2nd row seat belts are unable to latch properly. now 4 seat belts in jeep do not latch properly. this is a major safety hazard and should have a recall. all auto companies should back their product and repair seat belts. not to mention several of the interior door handles have busted out. *tr
I have a 2006 jeep commander, about 6 months after i purchased the used vehicle the 2nd row seat belts locked in to place & won't come out. i can not bring all my children with me and it is a huge safety issue that the seat belts do not work. i saw there was a recall on the 3rd row & feel there should be a recall on the 2nd row as well. the seat belts were not abused & were barely used & not can not be used at all. i am trying to get ahold of daimler chrysler to get this safety issue fixed but so far have not gotten anywhere. bottom line this is a safety issue and manufacture defect with the seat belts. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while driving in inclement weather at approximately 35-45 mph, an elk crashed into the front end of the vehicle. the driver and passenger side air bags both failed to deploy. the passenger seated in the front seat sustained injuries to the back and head. the contact sustained injuries to the neck and back. the manufacturer was contacted and advised that the elk did not impact the vehicle in the area of the air bag sensors therefore, the air bags did not deploy. the contact stated that the air bag was defective and that the air bag warning light was illuminated prior to the crashed. the vehicle was destroyed. a police report was filed of the incident. . the vehicle was destroyed. the failure and current mileage was 114,000. updated 12/12/12 *bf updated 12/21/2012 *js
Jeep commander driver and passenger seat belts do not lock into place correctly. to get them to lock you have to press and hold in the red button, then to unlock the seat belt you also have to press the red button. now in addition, the passenger seat belt when locked into place - the alarm goes off as if the seat belt is not engaged and the dash light also is lit up. sometimes with multiple lock/unlock attempts the alarm may go off. often it chimes relentlessly even when seat belt is engaged. chrysler customer care will not fully replace the defective seat belts even though it is a safety hazard. *js
I am 5 months pregnant and my driver's side seat belt will not click into the latch easily. i have to literally bang it to get the latch to catch. i am concerned about the safety and intergity of belt especially if in a crash-will it come unlatch? plus, being midway through my pregnancy i am concerned about the other seat belts in the car, especially the one i will be using to carry my child in. i was concerned about a safe car seat now i must be concerned about the seat belt as well!!! my vehicles seat belt warning system will not alert to unclicked belt. it assumes that the belt is latched in place. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the rear seat belts had been cut and destroyed by the rear retractable seat. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 06v037000 (seat belts:rear) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included because it was not built at a plant affected by the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the current mileage was 78,463 and the failure mileage was unknown.
2006 jeep commander 4x4 trail rated. *tr
Recall notice from chrysler. took commander into shop for repair. after 4 hours, technician stated that unable to download program from corporate computer to fix. need to bring car back later. this is the second time for a recall, and our car has been in there a total of 4 times for safety issues such as broken seat belts. it has been there a number of other visits, starting at 2555 miles, for defective windshield mount, defective gas fill line mount, and defective windshield wiper fluid pump. previous hazards were handled, but resulted in a good number of days of at least 6 hour services. now, after 4 hours, this service is not completed and i have to bring the car back again. *tr

I had a warranty on my jeep and called in about my seats belt in 2008, told the company my rear seatbelts were falling apart and not able to click into place, as well as my 2nd row seat belts the plastic around them are falling off and the belts are not locking. the daimler chrysler warranty company told me it was not covered under any recall, but this would be a defect in the seat belts not locking into belts clasps and not plastic is coming off, and my kids are coming out of the seatbelts, almost ending up in a wreck back in 2007, rep from warranty said there was nothing that could be done i would have to pay for seatbelts to be looked at. i am unable to securely put my kids in the back seats now. i am researching recalls now and seen i can make a formal complaint. *tr
