Below is what i sent to jeep. i have their respondents in my email. i can proved as requested. this correspondence is to document my concern with the safety of my jeep commander; year 2006, make ltd, vin [xxx]. there is an electrical issue that is causing various components of the vehicle to malfunction. examples of these episodes are the following: the a/c cutting in and out, the dashboard flickering on and off, the speedometer flickering radically up and down, the audio center turning on and off, headlights to flicker, the turning signals to not correctly operate.? i recently replaced the audio unit because the malfunction caused the unit to blow. the problem has been occurring since 2012; initially the occurrences were rare but have been increasing in consistence and escalating since then.i tried addressing the issue on 6.12.2012 at chapman scottsdale autoplex.the problem continued. i tried readdressing 05.01.2014 at chapman scottsdale autoplex. i have incurred direct cost of approximately $275 and have supporting documentation to support. chapman scottsdale autoplex is stating that i need to replace a dimmer switch for a cost of $229.00. i am not confident that is will resolve the issue and neither is the dealership. i originally purchased the vehicle at royal gate dodge chrysler jeep, inc. on 04.24.2009. i believe this issue is a matter that the manufacture should address and resolve. these occurrences are not routine maintenance items. i would prefer to address this matter without filing a formal correspondence to national highway traffic safety administration. i will be providing a copy of this correspondence to my attorney [xxx] & for record purposes. please respond to this correspondence within seven business of receipt. i look forward to resolving this matter. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

There is a serious electrical problem with the suv which started within . the dealers looked at it, i paid for computer diagnostics and still nothing. besides all the lights flashing on and off, the speedometer fluctuating, actually all the instruments going on and off while i am driving; also, the temperature control panel does not light up when the headlights are on. i have never had an automobile with all these electrical problems that no one can fix. please recall this vehicle before someone dies. i try not to drive long distances alone because of this problem. all this and more has been going on with the vehicle since i bought it in 2010. i've been given the same answer from many dealerships and auto zones with their computer diagnostic readings. nothings wrong with your vehicle. i'm tired and want out of this thing. breaks work and don't work too. to me its a lemon i got stuck with. *tr

Re: ignition switch recall (p41): i am now going on 2 years with a faulty iginition switch that has been recalled. when i last contacted the local dealership (larry h miller jeep, riverdale, utah) i was informed they do have the parts for the recall, but they "do not have the specific part" for my jeep. how long is it reasonable to wait for a recall to be dealt with? i just want my jeep fixed and i grow tired of larry miller auto group sending me mailings saying they will buy back my jeep and put me in a new car. how long must one wait for a recall to be fixed?
Chrysler issued a safety recall p41 / nhtsa 14v-438 and sent notification in june of 2014. 15 months have passed and i have been calling periodically. i was informed the manufacturer is not yet making the part. this is a safety issue as the vehicle can intermittently shut down during operation. i have experienced this multiple times since purchasing the vehicle and taken it to the dealer for investigation prior to receiving the recall notice. to have such an issue, notify owners and then not be able to provide a resolution or an anticipated date is unacceptable.
I hit the key with my knee and the car turned off. i was on route 50 in maryland. luckily i was going fast enough, approximately 60 mph, to pull the car off the highway to a safe spot. at first i thought there was an issue with the car. i was able to see that the key, in the ignition had been pushed to the off position. i was able to restart the car without issue. i just learned of the concern and i though it important to report this. *tr
All the light on my dash board have been flickering on and off for the past two months. it does not seem to affect my engine however it will completely take all gauges to zero while i am driving. i drove it last night and when it happened it killed my all my lights. i can hear a clicking sound when the flickering happens. it doesn't click continuously but enough to make me very uneasy. *tr

Driving home from work yesterday, when my steering wheel suddenly locked and truck started dying, and i almost hit a guard rail . turned the engine completely off and tried to turn the engine back on, but my truck would not start. had the truck towed to the dealer that day 04/25/2014. received a call from the dealer on today's date 04/26/2014; truck needs a new tipm module. a new tipm module was just put in my truck at the same dealer a few days short of a year ago (04/27/2013). problem is so common with chrysler that the module is on back order (nationally). there is no recall for this issue and it is seriously dangerous! i have read other complaints in regards to the tipm module (lawsuits as well). does someone have to die before chrysler does something? i am now afraid to drive my vehicle after the new tipm module is put in (whenever that will be) or to have passengers ride in my vehicle. please please please help before someone is seriously injured or killed. i have no idea what i'll do to get back and forth to work because module is on back order and the dealer does not do loaners. *tr

The vehicle randomly shuts off. the dash gauges flicker and/or go off for a brief time. if breaks are engaged at that time, abs stops. if headlights are on auto, they turn off. if turning a hard left or right (such as turning into a driveway, turning on to a street, parking) power steering stops working. if the lights are on but not on auto the lights stay on. the radio stays on. these symptoms would indicate that there is a problem with the ignition switch. when this issue occurs, it seems to stop by pushing on the key. this has happened multiple times. after visiting this page, a log will be created to record date, time, and speed. this is a huge safety issue. after much research many users of internet forums for jeeps, complain about this issue (reference urls can be provided). the nhtsa campaign number: 14v047000 sounds very similar in nature. could the nhtsa look in to the parts being the same? *tr

I cannot "safely" drive my vehicle as the car goes into neutral on it's own? there have been many a times that i have been on the highway traveling 55 mph or more and all of a sudden, the car would slightly jerk and then loose complete power. i would step on the accelerator but no change, i would simply pull off to the side of the highway. wait a few minutes and eventually the car would start up again? the headlights and interior lights go off and on? the face plate to the radio system gets hot? and has affected the illumination of the dashboard instrumental lighting? this is not a vin thing but a jeep commander thing? such an attractive vehicle with so many many issues? safety issues. and the company has yet to fulfill the recalls? its been more than a year? dealers keep telling the consumers, the part isn't available yet? i need to be able to drive to work, this has cost me additional money to buy a reliable vehicle to get me to work. i paid over $35,000 for it, and meanwhile it sits in the garage. a lot of money for your average joe to fork out. who's going to force the manufacturer to honor the recall?

We started the vehicle and as we started to accelerate the lights in the dashboard and stereo started to flicker and as we went down the road for about 2 minutes it kept doing it not sure if the main front lights turned off also because it was daytime but now i'm scared of driving my vehicle at night time. *tr
Often my whole electrical system will flash on and off and has since jan 2009. three times since march of last year vehicle has turned its self off while driving (complete steering loss), fortunately at low speed. also, in 2010 ( i have repair receipt) my transmission control module went out. i had to pay a $200 copay per request of jeep to have it replaced, after much argument. they said my particular 2006 jeep commander wasn't part of the recall, as was all other failing parts included on 2006 commander recalls, excepting ignition. still waiting on ignition fix, its been a year.
While driving the commander at various speeds everything suddenly turns off. acceleration is immediately decreased and all dashboard functions are gone. i have to shift to neutral and re-start the engine, all while still driving. this is very dangerous. i have had this car for 2 months. *tr

Bought car used at a dealership, but was not told of recalls or issues. car stalled on me twice, once in traffic approaching a light and another in a parking lot turning left to weave out of lot. the 4 wheel low was recalled and checked, but problem persist. the engine hesitates while driving, little stumbles and shakes while accelerating. while in park, weird sound is heard from light rev. i have had car for less than 3 days and problems occurred. i have a 2 ton paper weight at the moment as i feel it is unsafe to drive. i now have a decent size transmission leak after i park from short drives. i have but maybe 250 miles on it. i have heard of the 4.7 having some of these issues and a recall has been done, but not for the 5.7l hemi's. i have read numerous complaints on similar issues of exact engine model of commander, but recalls for it aren't available and only such for the 4.7l version. *tr
Was driving down road and lost power, car stalled. this has happened a total of 3 times with yesterday being the 3rd event and i was traveling about 55 mph with the last incident. *tr

I purchased this vehicle 2/15/14 three weeks later while driving on highway the gauges just came on and kept flashing it continued for the duration of my drive. once i got to work and put it in park and turn it off and restarted it nothing happened. so 8.5 to 9 hrs later back on the highway it does it again this time just flashed 3 times. it was taking to a shop per finance company to which the mechanic kept for almost 2 weeks. the mechanic stated he could not find anything wrong with it. he needed to see it happen. so i took it back home the first week nothing happened. second week nothing that third week it happened again this time while on highway on the way to work my speed dropped from 60 to 5 in less than a second. i pulled over and sat for 2 to 3 minutes an proceeded on with my cell phone ready to snap a picture if it happened again and low and be hold it does it again and this time it was continues until i turned off the vehicle once again it was taken to the shop with the proof he needed and again he stated he could not find anything wrong so he took it to jeep chrysler and had them reset everything and gave it back to me. for the next month nothing happened. but the following month once again the problem starts again. but this time it completely knocked out my radio. the finance company want help and i don't know what to do. today is the 25th of july but two or three days ago there was a recall on 2006-2007 jeep commanders for faulty ignition switches. i really do not feel safe for me or my kids in this vehicle but noone seems to care. not sure what to do about this problem but i truly hope you do. *tr
I purchased my jeep commander on february 12, 2014. a week after i purchased it my check light came on so i took it back to the dealership. it was for my catalytic converter. the people in the garage stated it was just a sensor and not to worry about it i told them to fix it while it was still covered under my warranty. they wouldn't. the next day all of the dome lights and dashboard lights in my truck started flickering while driving down the road. (still does it to this day). soon after my brakes went out on me while driving down the road with my kids so i had to get the calipers and everything changed. next it was the windows they all stopped working. the end of january 2015, while driving down the road again with my children, all of the lug nuts and bolts fell off of my tire rear passenger side tire. i ended up calling the tow truck and took it back to the dealership where i bought it. $2500 and two weeks later i get my truck back, have it for a day & it starts jerking on my way to work. they fixed everything that had to do with my tires and suspension. they also inform me i need my catalytic converter changed after they told me not to worry about it it's just the sensor acting funny. (it could've been fixed when i asked them to do it while it was covered under my warranty) now my lights start flashing my wheel speed sensors aren't working and is messing with my abs system and traction. they just tell me to shut the traction off while i'm driving it should fix the problem. i end up taking it back in the shop. a month later i'm driving home from work and my serpentine belt busts and i lose control of my truck. another $500 dollar job. present day, my truck is back in the shop for a routine brakes and rotors fix and they call and say i need my outer tirods fixed and rear axle something. i've put more money into this truck than i've paid for it in the past year.
