Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2019 Jeep Cherokee

I was driving home from work one night and all the dash lights come on and the vehicle completely stalled in the middle of the highway. i had to attempt to pull over and switch the key off and back on to restart the engine. i also have been at a stop multiple times and turn out into the road and my vehicle won't go, which could result in me getting hit. i also had my recall 'fixed' for the power train, went back because i received another letter saying it was possibly not fixed and it still tells me the problem was not fixed on my vehicle. i cannot use cruise control on my vehicle because when it goes down the slightest hill, curve, whatever, the rpms go all the way up and just sit there, even when i have turned off the cruise control and braked it still stays shifted up for a long time. i regret purchasing this vehicle, especially with a baby on the way any day now and her safety being at risk. we are in the process of finding another vehicle.

My car make a humming noise like it's trying to catch up while driving it stalls and sometimes while driving the car engine goes dead i have to keep pushing start button about 3 times to restart i took a picture of light that comes on and also another car backed into my car when car went dead it's very dangerous been to dealership several times they said everything was ok they even told me to take pictures of lights when it happens like i'm lying and i did even thought all pictures are time stamp.i can't afford uber and car note i need help.this happens on freeway highway side street anytime no warning.

Car does not go in to drive and will sometimes lurks in to high gear from a start or a initial go. the car revs up thinking it was in drive then slams in to high gear and goes.

My car hesitiates when putting it in to drive from backing up or just taking off. it hesitates going from low to high speed taking a long time intermittently. this is a very serious safety issue. i could be side swiped or ran in to.

To whom it may concern, my name is [xxx] . i am contacting you for concerns of my newly purchased 2019 jeep cherokee. i would appreciate it if someone could contact me about my engine stalling while operating the vehicle. i have concerns of this vehicle causing safety issues while in motion the vehicle stalled on a major highway loosing complete control and barely made it out of the road way tmwith no warning there was no engine lights or beeping. while having my family in it. my phone number is [xxx]. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Transmission slipped started to slip on my 2019 jeep cherokee with 10000 miles. car is just about brand new and the service transmission/shifter message and check engine light came on as well as all the transmission gear lights are lit.

I was in an automatic car wash and after it was finished my jeep would not engage into drive from neutral. i had the automatic engine shut down turned off. i tried multiple time from shifting from neutral into drive. i also restarted my jeep twice and on the second time it started and i could drive away.

I have had my car since august 2018. since june, the car has randomly stopped operating while i am driving. it will not accelerate and if i am on a hill begin to drift backwards until i am able to get the emergency brake on. it is extremely dangerous as it has happened in busy intersections and highways. my car has turned off while making turns and while accelerating up hills. sometimes the lights on the dash all turn on and other times it is just one light (such as the battery light). in june 2019, i had to have it towed to the dealer where they said my car needed an oil change and there was a sensor that needed to be replaced that caused the car to think their wasn't enough oil. then, in september 2019, it happened again and i was told it was because i was due for an oil change. i was still approximately 500 miles from my next oil change and was told that the issue of my car stopping in traffic was due to "dirty oil." in december 2019, this has happened again. i am still 1745 miles away from my next oil change. the dealership claimed that they needed to change the oil in order to do an oil pressure test. i asked them to fix the root of the problem because my car is stopping repeatedly and i do not feel safe in my vehicle. it is a hazard to myself and others as i live in a densely populated area. the dealership has done an oil change and checked the pressure and asked that i bring it back at 1,000 miles. i am not convinced that this will solve the problem and i think the repair is costly to make and the dealership is patching the problem. i am worried for myself and others as this isn't safe.*dt *tr

When driving down hills and manually downshifting to maintain the legal safe speed the transmission will freewheel for several seconds around 45 mph and will not downshift until 53 mph. at first service visit, dealer updated shift programming for the transmission, with no improvement. at second visit, jeep service wrote on invoice "6886 normal vehicle characteristic. verified customer concern. going downhill and manually shifting, engine and vehicle speed may increase before down shifting. this is due to a dog clutch being used for that gear, and requires engine speed to increase in order to engage that clutch. no fault codes, no service bulletins or star cases for this concern. tech and shop foreman road tested vehicle confirming normal operation as compared to like vehicle." several times when descending a moderate hill in san diego, a hard brake application is required to bring the vehicle under control so as to avoid a rear end collision with a vehicle in front. this is an unsafe design fault of the zf 9-speed transmission. more than 500,000 zf-9 transmissions have been recalled since 2014, and safety problems continue.

When i accelerate my vehicle after a stop or getting on the highway, it stalls and or stutters. this is a major safety concern. i have almost been hit because my vehicle would not accelerate when i had my foot on the gas.

On nov16 at the parking lot , when i took off at 5-8miles,mysterious noises under hood like high motor rotation. i returned to park and checked areas under hood, displays on dashboard such as battery voltage at 14.6v, engine oil life at 34 % ,etc. ii shut off engine.,i took off tothe dealer at this time no noise at all. on nov18 morning,i was driving approximately 30-40 mph when slowing down to approximately 15 mph to yield for oncoming traffic for a red light.after the light changed to green, i started to drive and around at 10 to 15 mph and accelerated .however, rpms increased to around 5,000 and the vehicle speed stayed only at around 25 mph with high motor rotation sounds. therefore, i contined to drive at the low speed and tried to find the safe place on the side of the road.the, i shut off engine and call the dealer to tell the problem . then i took off again but the vehicle was able to drive without a problem at this time.unfortunately, the same problem happened on nov20 and nov21. i finally brought a vehicle to the dealer and showed the video on nov21. and they fixed the vehicle on nov25. they explained oil level was low to the bottom of dipstick and 400 miles overdue on oil change sticker. i told them oil life indicator displayed 34 % on nov16. but they said that don't trust system and check oil change sticker and make sure to do oil change every 5000 miles.i asked why oil life indicator is not correct. they said only 2.4 liter engine needs oil change every 5000 mileage followed by oil change sticker. i complained to fix oil level indicator the. they said they checked already 100 times and insisted to follow a sticker.they also said they had 50 customers had the same problem at this dealer.then, the system should be recalled for the safety. one of incidents at this time might cause a car crash behind me as my car was at 25mph on 50mph max speed road.

I have a lot of hesitation when excelerating. i am scared of my vehicle. i am afraid i am going to get into accident . i have taken jeep in to be checked was told no recall but their is something very seriously wrong my jeep cherokee please help i've only had it two month.

I purchased a 2019 jeep cherokee trailhawk on 11/11/2019. that same evening the instrument cluster, uconnect, and lights all cut out while i was driving down the road. this caused the engine control to be cut and dtc's for brakes, esc, transmission, and the shifter. thankfully the first few times this happened on a street with heavy traffic during rush hour and i was able to restart the vehicle. it happened again on the second day while in motion on a side road and again the third day except while driving on the highway. after the third day, i scheduled it for service at a local jeep dealer. upon having my vehicle for five days, the dealer discovered a corroded/faulty ground and made the necessary repairs. the vehicle was picked up on 11/18/2019. it drove great until 11/20/2019 when the power once again was cut from the instrument cluster, uconnect, and lights. this also resulted in a loss of engine control with the same array of dtc codes being displayed and also occurred while driving. i was able to safely pull off the road and restart the vehicle. thankfully this happened roughly a mile from the dealer and i was able to limp the jeep there. they checked the codes and advised me to bring the vehicle back in the morning. on 11/21/2019 i returned the jeep to the dealer where it is currently being worked on again. this vehicle is an extreme danger to not only myself but to other motorists that could potentially collide with me due to the random and unpredictable nature of the issue. i am so concerned about the safety of the vehicle that i will not allow my children to ride in my vehicle with me.

I bought my jeep on december 12, 2018 from jt's jeep in lexington sc. at roughly 400 miles, the start/stop system light illuminated and displayed a message for service.i parked the jeep and shut it off, and restarted. worked fine after that. at roughly 1,600 miles, it did the same thing again. same procedure. went away. at 7,500 miles i took it in for service and they checked and said nothing was wrong. at 8000 miles i was merging onto the interstate in columbia sc and started to accelerate and it lost all power; power steering, acceleration, braking, and displayed a message of "electrical system fault" i managed to get it off the road and restarted, drove to ga fine. i scheduled an appointment with the local chrysler dealer here in ga, they kept it an entire week and claimed nothing was wrong. but that they fixed a recall that would remedy the issue. it has not. it has done this again and again, sometimes completely locking down, other times just illuminating the auto start stop service light. i am terrified of my vehicle. i bought it brand new because i needed a safe, reliable vehicle. it has been anything but. it currently has just over 10,000 miles. i have photographic proof of the times it has went haywire.

Tl* the contact rented a 2019 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate over 58 mph. also, the steering wheel swerved to the left and the contact lost control of the vehicle. the vehicle spun around and came to a stop on the other side of the road. all the air bags deployed. the rear driver's side occupant sustained injuries to the left leg, foot, arm, and shoulder. the contact sustained injuries to the head, neck, and back. medical attention was received. police report number: [xxx] was filed. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the cause of the failure was not determined. the failure mileage was 11,382. *dt *tp 'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

I just purchased this vehicle 3 days ago with 17,600 miles. , i have been experiencing the vehicle cut off when at a stopped position even if the gears are in drive. today i attempted to turn on the vehicle but showed no sign of power, i waitied and tried again. once i got the vehicle to run the check engine light came on. i do know there was a recall for this exact same issue and my vehicle seems to not have been repaired.

While driving on i 76 , the car just shifted into neutral while in traffic. the dash read ,you must stop before you switch gears. the gear was already in drive. could not pull over, car would not move. had to cut it off and start it over. very dangerous situation on the expressway. tried to switch the gears after putting on brakes, but to no avail.

Accelerating is jerky and many times does not shift correctly as speed increases (into next gear on left hand side ). also, as vehicle goes down small hills it seems like it doesn't understand how to handle the decease in acceleration. also, when shifting from reverse to drive, it takes at least 30 seconds to correctly respond. i brought vehicle into shop, they stated it was the vehicle getting to know how i drive.

I got my car mid june and after putting on about 4000 miles i started hearing and feeling some strange things with the transmission. here is list of the issues i'm experiencing: after starting my car & putting it into gear (drive), i drive about 200 to 500 ft (at a max speed of 30mph) and i hear a grinding noise. the traffic light turns green i put my foot on the accelerator and sometimes it will start moving in low gear very slowly then it suddenly jerks and flies (as if it were trying to make up for its previous lack of response) recently when i went from reverse to drive (backing out a parking spot) the car went into low gear it took about 30 seconds for it to go back to normal ps i live in brooklyn ny

Stalling in the engine and knocking into the engine. there is also a stall upon acceleration.

This is the 2nd time the 2019 jeep cherokee completely lost power and shut off while driving. all warning dash lights came on after pulling off the road put in park and restart. warning says tran need svc. acc/fcw limited functionality. frontend and rear collision disabled. the shifter is loud and clunky when putting in gear. dealership said when it happened 3months ago there was nothing they could find wrong. please help b4 it shuts off and someone gets hurt. thank you

It feels like it is slipping when you are taking off and turning the wheel on any type of terrain

Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that when using the start button for the vehicle, it would hesitate to start instead of starting immediately. the contact then stated that while driving at highway speeds the vehicle would hesitate to accelerate and exhibit a sputter when attempting to accelerate as well. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph the vehicle suddenly began to reduce in speed. the contact stated they lost all throttle with the vehicle. the vehicle's service electronic throttle warning light illuminated. the contact contacted the dealership (tri-star uniontown located at 2 superior way, uniontown, pa 15401 phone number 724-430-1401) who replaced the vehicle's wiring harness, reprogrammed power train module, pedal accelerator replaced, replaced the throttle body, reprogrammed transmission control module, and other repairs. the failure remains. the contact stated the failure occurred about 5 times. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened case number 74681739. the approximate failure mileage was 1,000.

Stuttering after stopping and stuttering when starting engine. stutters when trying to get on highway.

The vehicle was in motion on a county road traveling normally when it suddenly stalled out losing all power including steering. the instrument panel stated something like "must be in park to change gears" although no manual attempt had been made to do anything of the sort. this has happened twice. the jeep dealer kept the vehicle for two weeks and has decided there is nothing wrong with it.

After driving at freeway speeds of 60-70 mph, the steering begins to pull to the right continuously. then, without warning, it will suddenly pull to the left, then right, then the steering wheel will start to wobble and shimmy and a sense of loss of control of the vehicle is felt. the entire front end starts to shake. also, at the time this is occurring, the odor of hot oil permeates the interior of the vehicle. this problem happens every time the vehicle is driven for over an hour at freeway speeds. once, while this was going on the drive shaft front cv joint seized causing the drive shaft to come off the power transfer unit damaging the ptu output shaft. this vehicle, purchased new, has been in the dealer's repair shop four times for this problem (it is there now). in the past three months, it has been in that shop 65 days (so far). they have replaced the power transfer unit twice, the front cv joint and steering gear shield. this vehicle is unsafe to drive a freeway speeds. the problem appears to be the same one affecting the 2018 and 2019 jeep wrangler where the steering issues include shimmying, wobbling, looseness, and locking up. the jeep dealer where purchased and repairs attempted is dick hannah jeep, 3517 ne auto mall drive, vancouver, wa 98668.*dt*jb

My 2019 jeep cherokee trailhawk has a v6 engine. and i noticed the transmission would jerk very hard into gear. sometimes it does it when shifting into 3rd gear, when passing, and just normal driving. it feels like i've been rear ended cause it jerks so hard. it does this on regular roads as well as highways.

5th complaint here about this vehicle which is now lemon law buy back due to lunging against the brakes at a stop, failure to shift properly and a throttle responsive clunk that has never been resolved. the only repairs fca would approve is reprogramming the computers which was completed several times and still has these issues.

Vehicle hesitates when accelerating, causing a lag in motion. have had issues where lack of acceleration has placed my wife and i into a dangerous situation of being in an accident, like when trying to merge in traffic. this has been happening since my wife bought the vehicle in november, 2018. took in to the jeep dealer in colorado springs and was told that nothing could be done until jeep decides to issue a software update. have seen similar complaints (hundreds of them) posted on nhtsa and carcomplaints.com . chrysler/jeep needs to address this problem before someone is injured or killed.

New car, 2 weeks old with 800 miles will not hold speed with cruise control while going down hill. in fact , the car actually accelerates with engine. this happens at all speeds. dealers and factory says "it is a characteristic of all 9 speed transmissions". it is a dangerous situation. in another transmission related issues, the car makes a loud clunk when driving between 30-50 mph on a flat road when lightly putting foot on accelerator. it is so loud and hard you can hear and feel it over the radio. again we are told this "is a characteristic of the 9 speed transmissions"! unacceptable! a class-action lawsuit needs to filed against the manufacturer.

The automatic transmission shifting at low speeds constantly hesitates and freezes when trying to accelerate. most often after stoping. the resultant delay in shifting often occurs when pulling into traffic and is particularly bad when accelerating from a stop up a hill. as a natural reaction to the effect of a stall while trying to accelerate the pedal is depressed further. when the transmission finally decides to downshift it results in a rough jerking of forward acceleration and high rpm acceleration. this behavior happens every time the vehicle is driven. the transmission has been faulty since the day the car was delivered new with 20 miles. the dealer claims there is no solution until the manufacturer issues a computer software fix.

Started out when going over a bump slow you heard a grinding noise, now when it shifts into first at a stop the transmission has a clicking noise and also surges and shifts hard.

Vehicle bought with about 14 miles on it. at about 200 miles a noise appeared when coasting and applying light pressure on the gas. the noise has become louder and more noticeable to the point where you can feel the noise in your feet. one a few occasions, the traction control light came on, the noise became louder and happened for a longer period of time. dealer can't find an issue but refuse to tell me if it is safe to drive. dealer took a different vehicle (exactly the same) and found the noise is happening in that vehicle as well. pretty sure the issue is in the drivetrain. dealer reported the problem to fca star engineering but there is "no fix at this point". it was found that there have been numerous complaints on this same issue for almost a year. this vehicle only has 1900 miles on it...

At around 1200 rpm and at about 30-40 mph, coming off the accelerator and then back on it results in a clunk type noise. it appears to be coming from the transmission. at times it is a slight noise, at other times it is quite loud. after 2 visits to the dealer and rising to level 2 at jeeps customer service no one can offer a fix. jeep customer service says the transmission will self calibrate and the noise will go away. almost 2000 miles on the vehicle and it hasn't self calibrated yet.

After an intersection stop and starting to accelerate during a right turn and car in motion, the car engine stalled. the dashboard showed 0 rpm and just the battery indicator on. park over the road shoulders, i could start the engine again after 2 attempts. this has happened 3 times as of now, 2 times last week (may 10 and may 11 2019). went to the jeep dealer in pineville, charlotte, nc. they suppose executed the work order for the safety recall u86 (nhtsa recall number 18v-523) on may 11. but today (may 13 2019) the car did exactly the same in the same intersection like the first time. car has only 4,250 miles. consumer stated i went to the dealership as i saw "oil pressure" error message on the dashboard and noticed abnormal low engine oil level, having just 4,000 miles. during the recall service, they suppose checked all levels including the most important one: engine oil. so, after a oil change and oil level replenishment, the jeep cherokee is working well since then. consumer took the vehicle to another dealer to get oil change.*jb

My car shut off in the middle of the road or at the stop sign several times. i had to restart the car in order to start it and drive. the brakes have also squealed several times while slowing down on the local streets and interstate. the bluetooth takes 10-15 minutes to add the phone and sometimes does not connect until car is restarted. these incidents started to take place in may 2019

Jeep has 6664 miles on it and airbag service light came on and says that airbag needs serviced. at first the light would come on and then turn back off however, now the light is on and remains on. next complaint is that after slowing vehicle down and beginning to accelerate again, the jeep seems to not want to accelerate normally...it is hesitant and then suddenly picks up speed. 3rd complaint. while sitting at a light or stop sign it feels like the engine is pulling against the brake (as if you were trying to accelerate and brake at same time) in a "lunging" manner.

As of may 5th experienced a safety risk with this jeep and it's 9 speed transmission. on the expressway and tried to merge to another expressway and vehicle failed to downshift or accelerate when attempting to merge. this was also accompanied with excessive gear hunting along with hard shifts and long/high rpm shifts. not to mention it will lunge or try to overpower the brakes when at a stop light. will be going to the shop for the 4th time for same issue. the problem is, it is random and never know what it will do next. this vehicle is a safety risk!

3rd time now vehicle in the shop for same, vehicle lunges against the brakes while at a stop like at a traffic light or pulled into garage. there is also notable clunking while depressing the accelerator (last time in shop was told it was a motor mount). fca customer care had been in communication with me but once reported the problem again there has not been any replies. vehicle was purchased sept 2018 and mileage is currently 2186 (yes, 2186). almost 200 miles and roughly 2 weeks since last visit.

On 2/28/19 i purchased a 2019 jeep cherokee. on 4/15 i had to have the transmission replaced due to leak & failure. on 5/27 i had to have the dash instrument panel replaced due to failure, which i have video record of. on 7/10 i had to have the park sensor replaced due to failure & the vehicle throwing itself into park instructing me that door was ajar when it wasn't. i can only imagine if this had happened while i was doing 70mph on the freeway. my vin is not showing in any of the recalls, however three recalls pertain to me. so i need to know what to do to make ppl aware of these recalls. my vin needs to be added to the list. i have all repair reports needed to prove my vehicle is a safety issue. i have repetitively asked jeep to place me in a safer more reliable vehicle and they refuse to return my calls or assist me in any way, stating that 'this is why we have warranties' someone needs to contact me about this issue. i need help before my vehicle results in a fatal crash no kills my family and me. i am noting that i contacted the nhtsa about this issue on 9/11 and am awaiting a response.

My transmission began leaking badly and had to be replaced only days after i bought it. then my dash's electrical system failed causing it to only come on sometimes and not react to touchscreen, then my start stop sensor failed which caused the vehicle to register that it was not in park and some times putting itself into park until registering.

I was approaching a traffic circle and had to yield. i never came to a complete stop, but was traveling around 5mph. i pressed on the accelerator to continue on the circleand my car stalled. i was almost side swiped due to my vehicle entering the circle and not accelerating for approximately 10 seconds. this has happened on several occasions when coming to a yield area. my county has over 150 traffic circles with yield signs. this will be dangerous with this happening frequently. i am marking this as occuring 4/11/19 because it was very bad that occasion. it made me think of the times it hasn't been as noticeable in the past though.

Driving approximately 30-40 mph when slowing down to approximately 10-15 mph to yield for oncoming traffic or a red light the vehicle will have a delayed response to any acceleration input causing a dangerous situation (ie. if trying to take off in front of another vehicle due to space but realize they are traveling much faster than anticipated you are unable to get out of the way due to car not responding to pedal input immediately).

The car will stall in the middle of road with no warning. it happens most often when going up a slight hill and making a left hand turn. dealer says it is low on oil pressure(the car is 5 months old and they say it was 2.5 quarts low on oil!!) and a safety switch shuts down the engine in the middle of road/traffic!! i call this "safety feature" to protect the engine a"danger switch" that endangers traffic. i believe this is a major safety issue for all traffic because these jeeps are stalling in the middle of traffic. i have a 45 second video that shows the stall. please help get this problem solved!! *dt*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. while driving, the vehicle lost power without warning. the contact shifted into neutral and the vehicle restarted. the instrument panel indicators flashed as the contact drove home. the following day, the vehicle was started, but then shut off and failed to restart. the contact called the manufacturer and had the vehicle towed to fairfield chrysler dodge jeep ram (1409 montour blvd, danville, pa 17821, (570) 275-3300). the dealer diagnosed that the abs unit needed to be replaced. after two weeks, the contact drove the vehicle and it stalled two miles later. all the instrument panel indicators illuminated again. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and barely made it home. the vehicle was towed again to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a loose wire. the vehicle was currently at the dealer. the contact wants to return the vehicle and stated that it was unsafe to drive. the failure mileage was 13.

Takara recall when car is beginning to accelerate, the car jerks and stalls . sometimes you can feel the jerk throughout the entire car. especially when stopped at a red light. when you start to accelerate the car you can see the rpm go from 1 to 3 immediately. then a complete jerk of the vehicle. have taken vehicle to dealership. chrysler has ran codes to try to determine the problem. it comes back as nothing is wrong. i have read over thousands of reviews online about this exact same issue and no one knows exactly what is going on. this is a safety issue.

2nd report for trans issues now. reprogramming from dealership did not work from 1st try at repair. and had to replace motor mount due to trans issue. car tries to lunge when stopped at traffic light. downshifts and stays while on expressway, have to slow down then speed back up to correct. when reversing, come to a stop then switch to drive the vehicle "slams" into gear. now the motor mount is clunking again. again this is 2nd time for same issues in 6 months or 1966 miles of ownership.

I've only had this vehicle 2 months.....came to a stop at a traffic light, when to take off the vehicle died. would not restart, could not get the vehicle out of drive, finally get it out of drive, vehicle still won't restart. finally restarts, then dies again, restart, dies again, finally get it to start start/stop light is on for service. turn start/stop off, drive to safe place, turn vehicle off, light goes off, vehicle doesn't act up again at this point because i have turned the start/stop off. at dealership for over a week now, they "claim" they can not get it to reproduce the issue. i'm reading online lots of issues like this, why aren't these vehicles being recalled or pulled off the road. someone is gonna get killed!

Vehicle stalls when driving at any speed. extremely dangerous. *dt*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. while driving at low speeds, the vehicle stalled and restarted and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact mentioned that when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle revved, but did not accelerate. the contact also mentioned that the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was currently at akins ford (220 w may st, winder, ga 30680, (770) 867-9136) for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 2,000.
