Car shuts off while driving , engine stalls , car downshifts when excellerating on highway . dealer has replaced engine and transmission, car still shifts rough and has started stalling again
Vehicle does not go while on incline at a stop, revs to 3k rpm then will spin out tires. delayed start at stop lights and speed ups. had recall done software upgrade twice, drives fine for a couple weeks then back to it. had numerous close calls while pulling out into traffic have to let off gas and accel again and pray it goes...

When i am driving my car will shift itself into neutral and stall out and then it will shut off when i am traveling 70 mph down the highway. then when i have to turn it back on i have to turn the key then shift my car into neutral and let it coast a little so that way it will turn over. it has done this 6 times now and the last time this happened it broke down and it would not start back up. the last three time this happened i was on the highway, traveling about 70 mph. when it happened about the third time a different light came on saying my throttle peddle was going bad and that the ignition was going bad as well. i took it to go get the codes read but every where i took they were saying they could not help me and that we would have to pay out of pocket for it. meanwhile my fiance and i looked up recalls on the jeep cherokees and there is recalls on the transmissions and other things as well. and all the recalls are for the 6 cylinder jeeps but my jeep is having all the same problems that the 6 cylinder jeeps are having. but no one will help fix it. i have talked to chrysler corporation 2 times an each time we talk to them they say it is not their problem and that it is our problem. my car is unsafe to drive and it do not trust to even have my family in it.
My car starts to stall, slow down then jerks and doesn't move afterwards. then a message comes up saying 'shift to p, then desired gear' and i have to shut the car off about 4 times before being able to drive it again. this is while i was driving heading to work, while at a green light.
I started my car early in the morning to go to work and after a couple of feet of driving the vehicle, the engine turned off and battery light came on. battery is sufficiently charged. turned the car back on, drove a couple more blocks and it did it again, then again while trying to get on the freeway.
Veh in motion, service shifter, this started after they fixed the recall from the reprogram transmission control.
Starting at the beginning of this month my car will randomly shut off and state to 'shift gear into park' the gear shift lights on all letters light up red and the car takes about 20 minutes to start back up. today it happened three times in a row while in the car with my daughter and it has me petrified. we went up the hill by our home and it happens and the car started going backwards.
Almost died last week!! we purchased the jeep cherokee trailhawk new in 2014 with the full intent of towing it 4 wheels down behind our motor home. the owners manual for towing is very clear and we have been following the instructions as provided and as instructed by the jeep dealership. last thursday night (may 30th 2019) on hwy 24 in kentucky we hit a rough patch of road and the jeep went into a death wobble that brought the entire rv coach from 65 mph to a dead stop in the middle of the highway in the dark of night in heavy traffic!!! by god's grace only are we not dead!! no driver expects an rv to be parked on the highway (emergency flashers or not). we have been scared before with this at a lower speed of 30 to 40 mph, but never at full highway speed! we are terrified to tow this vehicle even thought the vehicle was clearly sold as tow-able. after researching on the internet about this, i find out it is a known issue with jeep 2014 / 2015 models and that a electrical wiring harness is now required to tow the vehicle safely - however - jeep wants to charge you for this part and install!!! this is pure evil on jeeps part. they know of the issue and are pushing the repair off on the owner, when the vehicle was clearly advertised and sold as tow-able with no need for any adaptations. it is a miracle that no one has been killed due to their negligence in getting these vehicles repaired. i have not been notified by jeep that my life is in danger. they have made no effort in rectifying this deadly situation or even letting me know about a potential solution. i have tried to fix the wobble independently by changing tires, balancing etc, only to learn through google that the jeep is faulty in and of itself, that the steering is not powered correctly to keep the jeep from going into a death wobble. this should be a recall and not the burden of the owner.
Around 4:30 pm, after just a few seconds of leaving my driveway, a message came on that stated i needed to put the vehicle in park before i could shift gears and then my battery light and engine light came on. i pulled over, put vehicle into park & then shut it off. restarted it, but struggled to start.. attempted to restart a third time but was dead. turned the key to run to see what lights stayed on the dashboard the battery was still on while the engine light disappeared. after waiting about a half hour, my father in law was able to give me a jump. car started and was able to drive get the battery replaced. however i read last night similar complaints, with the battery not being the issue so my husband will be getting the previous battery we had, tested this weekend.
Multiple warning lights come on. want accelerate, hard gear shift, low voltage light. turns car off while driving.
The car has jerked since i bought it two years ago and for about 6 months now it has been presenting a transmission issue. the car starts to flash with 'service transmission ' and the check engine light comes on - after that the car starts to get stiff and as soon as i come to a complete stop the car turns off the car turned off this happend twice and i took it into the local jeep dealership where they told me on me at stop lights both times - i was able to turn the car back on after about 5 mins and continue driving that it was not a transmission issue and fixed the recalls and i was on my way - then the car started to do this again it stopped on my three times in one week alone saying service transmission.
Car stalled several times while moving when engine is cold this happened several times while turning and again when not turning, on city streets. 4 headlights blew within 7 days while both moving and while stationary. hard shift between 2nd and 3rd and 3rd and 4th gears while moving on highway and city streets.
Brought vehicle in to the dealership for repairs on several ocassions with complaints of vehicle jumping into gear. recently had to replace the battery because vehicle wouldn't stay running and could not put into gear. vehicle is currently at the dealership because it was leaking oil. have been told that the oil cooler needs to be replaced. have also been told that the drive shaft is noisy and should be replaced and that the air temperature ambient sensor needs to be replaced. i gave the go ahead to replace the oil cooler and air temperature ambient sensor. told them to hold off on replacing the drive shaft as the repair alone for the oil cooler and sensor was going to be approximately $1,300. i then received a call back and was told that they changed the oil cooler and upon trying to start the vehicle it didn't want to start. they told me multiple codes were coming up and that my instrument cluster needed to be replaced at an additional cost of over $1,000. estimate for all repairs to be $2,500 plus. was also told that the instrument cluster is a special order and once ordered they would have to hold my vehicle for two weeks until it came in and could be installed. it is costing me $35.00 a day for a rental vehicle through them. i estimate total cost for repairs and rental to be about $3,000. this cost does not include the replacing the drive shaft which they tell me is noisy.
When i'm driving my car will just stall without warning until the car becomes to a complete stop. this has happened to me at least 4 times beginning 10-27-18 and the last time was 11-08-18 and i had it towed to the dealerships designated shop and was told that they couldn't find anything wrong with it that could be fixed. they also told me they had other customers complaining about their jeep-cherokee stalling on the freeways and in the middle of traffic. my vehicle stall on me when i was driving on the streets and i would only get a few feet from home and one of those times the battery light would come on and another time the light came on for driving on on hill or something in that effect.
Vehicle died on main road just over 30000 miles said it was the uconnect . turns out after a month and a half of them having it they had to replace the transmission. ruff shifts over accelerates. suspension right after that. died on the highway going 55!!! semi truck almost killed my family. took dealership over a week to even look at it said it was a sensor. died again 4wheel drive light came on. said it was a module. now they say its the rear differential and its on back order and can take up to 2 weeks. this vehicle is not safe. transmission constantly goes out. afraid my family will get hurt
We experienced a wobble very severe while towing behind our rv. it was very unsafe but we were able to get to the side of the road i hate to think what could have happened to us or someone else not to mention the car, rv or towing equipment. we are told we need a jumper wiring harness that cost $400.00. is this covered?
Transmission shifting problem again the outer module was replaced because transmission locked up through the dealership i purchased it from worked well now it's starting to do it all over again ! note dealership has all documentation also there was former complaints file with chysler on this situation before [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *pm
The back windshield wiper, no longer works. it basically first just fell down over the tail light and when turned on, it would only cover part of the window. later it would drop further down. there are times when you could manually move it. but it no longer works when you try to turn it on normally. also the intermittent wiper settings for the front windshield , have not worked at all.
Bought this car 12/1/16 and purchased best optioned warranty. car is stalling and locking up steering. 5x in last 3 days. mil light, etc light coming on. after turning engine off and on, car will drive fine other than transmission is jerky. seems like there is a dead spot when trying to accelerate. i put premium gas in this car. there is something definitely wrong with the computer language between fuel intake and transmission shifting gears. bringing it to naples dodge tmrw for service and hopefully will be under warranty.
Car cuts off going about 40mph. steering locked up. while i was on highway. problem occurred multiple times. unsafe vehicle purchased top warranty and i'm still being charged for repair. purchased the car used has 40,000 miles. and i have had the car for 3 months yet! car stared back up and wouldn't let me go over 20mph.
While driving down the highway going 65 miles an hour the transmission made a horrible sound and just went bezerk. all i could do is put on my hazards and coast to the side. it would not go into any gear not even park. i was almost hit by several vehicles trying just to get over. he had it towed to the dealership where we were told it was fixed on our way home it did the same thing again. i am literally terrified to drive this vehicle again.
My check engine light keeps coming on for code b104e and every time i take it in to have it looked out nothing seems to be wrong with it. this code has been thrown 4 times in a year and every time they say they can't find an issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving, all of the warning indicators inadvertently illuminated. the contact stated that the engine stalled and lost power. the vehicle was taken to weiner automotive (1151 us hwy 220, moorefield, wv 26836 (304) 530-9000), but no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and a claim was filed. the contact stated that the manufacturer was sending a mechanic to inspect the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
On july 16, 2017 we downloaded a software update. we followed the directions on the screen so the car was parked and did not move during the process after it was complete we began to experience issues with the car such as no back up camera, flashing lights on the dash screen i.e. the odometer sometimes it will flash that 911 call assistance needs maintenance and is not functioning since the update was two weeks ago the car has been driven and these issues are still a problem
I have a 2014 jeep cherokee latitude that is a lemon. it jerks really hard when you take off from a stop, it loses power while driving down the road, the steering gets really tight and you can barely turn the wheel while driving, if you dont wait for the car to jerk twice when you put it in drive it will go backwards in reverse while in drive, the radio and climate controll constantly reset do to power failure, sometimes it dont want to start, the check enine light did'nt even come on until a week after the problems started, it throws warning lights like low tire pressure or traction controll when nothing is wrong, and the dealership wants to charge me $800 (that i can not afford) just to see what they need to do to try and fix it. they don't even know whats wrong or if they even can but they expecet me to pay them!!! i have only had my car 15 months and it only has 38,000 miles on it,and now i find out that it has went way down in value due to all the recalls. what can i do????
Transmission issues and traction control. lurches forward, shakes when taking off, hesitates when taking off (sometimes 10 seconds or more) then kicks into gear really hard. traction light comes on and have reduced power, rpms are very high but the car just doesn't want to go. sometimes will tell me to put the car in park then shift to desired gear. the trans will not go into gear. it left me stranded alone on a major road late at night. when it arrived at the dealership, they couldn't find anything wrong with it. it has spent over a month at one dealership. been in multiple times for the trans and they do an update and say its all good. this car has put me in quite a few near misses. you never know when you are not going to have the power you need. the times i have experienced the problems, it didn't matter if i was turning or driving a straight line. this has been going on with my vehicle for 2 years. they performed a recall that was supposed to fix it but i did nothing. its almost like it got worse.
Transmission fails constantly, while driving! very dangerous and jeep doesn't know how to fix this safety issue. my jeep has only 31,600 miles!
Jeep recall as i was exiting off the freeway, i suddenly noticed a delayed response when stepping on the gas petal to accelerate a bit in order to get to the far right lane. when i released my foot from the gas pedal, the car sounded like it had shut down and the lights inside he vehicle had all shut down as well. the car was still rolling but it was no longer turned on. i quickly tried to turn the key to try to turn the car back on, and stepped on the gas pedal to give it go ahead, but nothing happened. luckily i was able to get to the far right lane and was somewhat out of the traffics way. since the , the car has not been driven, due to safety issues i am not too sure about. unknown. just two days ago, i had the jeep towed to the nearest jeep dealership but it will not be serviced or attended to until a week from now. i work two jobs which are both located at least 15 miles away from my home and not having a vehicle to get to work has put a huge burden on my whole lifestyle and daily routine of obligations. needless to say, the financial burden has created nothing but bitterness towards the manufacture of my jeep. i would like for this nightmare to end and not reoccur again because i won't be able to stay calm and patient next time. if we could at least be provided with a loaner car for unpredicted incidences like this then maybe we could manage and tolerate a bit more. but i can't believe we still have to pay out more money we shouldn't have to be giving. this is the manufactures responsibility to take care of its consumers and to public safety.
The jeep stalls while in motion. the vehicle lurches/jerks forward around 8 miles per hour and 30 miles per hour.
Tow the jeep behind motorhome and while traveling about 45mph the jeep started to shake out of control causing the entire motorhome to sway side to side. had to completely come to full stop to correct, this has happened two times. contacted jeep and filed complaint for fix which they will not help with cost. have a case number on file.
Vehical has lost power 4 times while driving. almost causeing a collision with the vehical behind me. vehical was diagnosed by private mechanic dealership does not have any available appointments and parts are not available at this time to correct the recall. this vehical is unsafe to drive and has been reported to jeep but they cannot help till it is diagnosed with a certified jeep mechanic
On two separate occasions, both while reversing and driving the car forward, a message has suddenly appeared on my dash forcing my car to be put in park, that the car is not able to be in drive, and the transmission needs serviced. after this event, the check engine light appears on my dash for at least a couple of hours and then disappears.
There have been several recalls on my vehicle since purchasing it almost 2 years ago. i've had to be inconveniently placed in a rental a couple times and pay a deposit out of pocket for something that wasn't even my fault. i contacted the dealer days after purchasing it to express my dissatisfaction, they were very unhelpful. one month after purchasing it is when i started needing to get the vehicle serviced several times. this latest recall, i have reached out to the dealer and the "earliest" appointment isn't until november. i called nhtsa customer service today to see if they could "speed up the process" but they too were very unhelpful. the person i spoke with expressed that the parts needed to fix this recall were all sold out and she wasn't sure when the parts would be coming in. now, i am stuck in an unsafe, faulty vehicle until it can get serviced to this recall. in the safety recall notice it states in bold, "the loss of motive power could cause a crash without warning." driving this vehicle in the condition that it's in and the potential safety hazard is life threatening. what exactly am i supposed to do now? i use this vehicle everyday and i am not the only passenger in it. i've contacted nhtsa before and submitted documentation of all the services the vehicle has had, and nothing was resolved on my behalf. i'm surprised legal action hasn't been presented to the manufacturer for these recalls and poor quality vehicles.
Transmission skips gears and sometimes is extremely slow to start getting the car going (acceleration) (every road including when you are stationary. the body of the car continuously shakes if you are driving on a smooth road (like you can hear the body of the car <shell of the car> (highway, city, straight and turning) when backing up, the car will break immediatley if there is nothing in the way causing a serious safety hazard. (backing up, or driving in the city it will break and i can't override the system making it very easy for someone to rear end you) this vehicle needs to be deemed unsafe to drive and recalled.
When at an average rate of speed (55mph) while driving on a curve (there is a bump in the road at the spot i am referring to), when the jeep hits it, it has a death wobble in the front end!!! cruise control speeds up on a very small decline in the road every time used!!! from a stop, the car has a hard shift when beginning to press accelerator!!! hands free voice gets my voice request wrong almost every time!!!
While driving on the interstate, the lights for electric stability control, engine and park brake came on. the "service transmission" notice and "service park brake" appeared. then the vehicle would not accelerate and would get to 4 rpm while going at 50 mph. bad jumping, lurching, banging when shifting gears or accelerating from a stop.
Driving home from the store the transmission kicked into first gear with no warning. was unable to get out of first gear and almost caused an accident. scared and being terrified of the incident pulled off the road. after restarting was still not able to get out of first gear. odd cause i've owned my 2014 jeep cherokee less then a year and has less then 55,000 miles on it. took it into chrysler dealership and after finally looking at it a week later said the internal transmission censor wiring harness has a shortage. this could of killed my family as this is similar to recall code s55 that was just opened by nhtsa reference#16v529000. only difference in that code and mine is mine gets stuck in first gear and won't come out of first gear. they didn't care that my family could of died. no sorry no nothing just said it's not under the power train warranty cause it's the harness although that's was ceased the transmission the safety of my family. it's unexceptable and i hope i can get an investigation on this. i know lives are at stake cause mine was put on the line due to bad product or defected product.
Vehicle has been serviced multiple times for transmission not shifting, shifting hard enough to lose traction, and shifting into neutral at random. transmission is still not fixed nor functioning properly. this also triggers the stability control to malfunction and lose control on slippery surfaces. now the four wheel drive feature is broken and not functioning as well. dealer has had the vehicle more than 6 times in the past 8 weeks, and several times prior in the two years before. this vehicles transmission is a huge safety and loss of vehicle control issue.
I have had multiple instances of the transmission falling out of gear and losing all power. in order to get any acceleration i have to restart the car multiple times. at this point i will be unable to get above 5-10 mph. when shifting between gears during these instances the car will jerk violently as i shift between p r n & d. on one occasion the car accelerated in reverse when the dash shows that i was in d. in every instance this has occurred while i was driving the vehicle. multiple times both on the freeway and on city streets. when the issue occurs my check engine, service transmission, service parking brake, and traction control lights come on. the issue is not affected by speed, turning, etc. i currently have a replacement transmission in the car and have had it into two different dealerships multiple times for this issue and am still experiencing the problem. i have taken video records of the latest instances and shown the service advisors.
Car cut off while driving clunk when putting into reverse or drive has delayed acceleration sometimes no acceleration car radio does not come on at all or the screen freezes traction control goes on and of on its own alternator not charging properly owned the vehicle for about a month and half i expressed concerns when i first test drove the car my dealer told me he would send the car to jeep i bought it from a chevy dealer with about 34,200 miles as i said owned the car less than 2 months hawthorne chevrolet has sent my vehicle to jeep been without for over a week have not even made 1st payment yet contacted jeep corporate i have a case # 3009-95-39 but still no satifaction
Reference to recall notice s55/nhtsa 16v-529: transaxle wire harness; it has been three -to- four months since i had been notified of the recall concerns. the dealership has failed to correct the problem.
Numerous computer/electrical intermittent issues with vehicle. most recent episode the care would completely shut down at freeway speeds. no engine, no lighting, as if it was hit with an electromagnetic pulse. this unfortunately locks the steering as well. the key fob is non responsive. after 5-7 minutes (if you happen to not get hit and die), the car comes back to life (interior lights come back and after another minute will start). also have had "service air bag indicator system", "service parking brake", "service transmission", "4wd system unavailable", check engine light, traction control light, battery light, parking brake amber service light, flashing odometer, flashing d in dash. dash completely goes blank intermittently as well. transmission has also been stuck in neutral numerous time (can not turn car off unless in park, cannot shift). numerous trips to dealer for warranty service. this last time they found a ground connection loose in the driver side kick panel. so if that ground comes loose or frayed, the car can just kill me?
Purchased vehicle for flat towing behind motorhome. at speed, car steering is affected and causes car to shake violently as well as motorhome.condition has occurred several times while flat towing vehicle. this is a major safety concern as it causes a potential loss of control of motorhome at speed.
Received two recalls, have been going to dealer for over 8 months to get them done, contacted jeep manufacturer, still no parts received. dealer says they have not received parts and to keep checking in, which i've persistently been doing for eight months to the point of frustration. it has been almost a year since the last two recalls were stated.in the meantime my defective parts continue to malfunction if used. an efficient and timely manner to get the recalls done has not been conducted by jeep and by fca us llc.
Loss of motor power causing error codes and the shut down of vehicle. vehicle sometimes restarts but often does not. this occurs while vehicle is in motion. vehicle has been brought back to dealer 4 different times since april 1016 and still not being fixed. i received a recall notice and dealer stated parts currently not available anywhere to repair issue.
On many occasions the "death wobble", the front wheels of my 2014 jeep cherokee would begin violently oscillating while i towed the jeep behind my motorhome. this wobble would occur at any speed and usually in construction zones or on a big bump in the highway. jeep finally provided a "fix" for the problem by requiring a wiring harness to be installed. i paid to have it installed in a vehicle that was sold as four wheels down with no modifications and that has stopped the wobble problem. the original manual also states that the vehicle is flat towable. there was an addendum to the manual, but that was 2 years after i purchased the vehicle and many miles behind my motorhome.
On several occasions, our jeep cherokee has begun to "wobble" severely while being flat towed behind our motorhome. this occurred three times on a recent 2,000 mile trip. the "wobble" is so severe that we have to bring the motorhome to a complete stop before the car begins to track normally. we have had it happen when we ran over a particularly rough expansion joint on the interstate. going from 65 mph to a complete stop on a busy interstate is extremely dangerous. another example of it being very dangerous is when the "wobble", occurs when we are in a construction zone where there are rough roads. coming to a complete stop in heavy traffic in a construction zone also creates a situation that can cause an accident. we pull the jeep behind a 40' 2013 newmar dutch star. our tow bar is a blue ox avail 10,000 lb tow bar. we keep the motorhome and tow bar in good condition and i don't believe our equipment is the cause of the "wobble". we have contacted jeep on two occasions and have been told they are aware of the situation and that they have a "fix" for it. i have tried to procure the "fix" from jeep but i have been unable to do so. i am asking nhtsa to force jeep to immediately release the "fix" for the wobble issue immediately at no charge . my wife and i are leaving on two trips, one the last of april and one in the middle of may that will total nearly 10,000 miles. we want to get the repair completed prior to our leaving due to the safety concerns. jeep was made aware of this by the family motorcoach association several months ago and reported the problem in their january 2016 magazine. i feel jeep has had ample time to prepare and distribute information and parts to repair this problem.
First - vehicle would shift into park and i could not turn it off. when shifting into reverse, the car would not move. i had to have it towed into the dealer. second - while driving on the expressway, the vehicle gave 5-6 beeps and information panel said, "restart vehicle and service transmission." the car stopped moving forward when pressing the gas. shifting into park (to restart the vehicle) the car vibrated and jumped. restarted the vehicle, the transmission light was on, message says service transmission, traction control light on, and the d(rive) light was blinking. third - all of the above again, except everyone on the expressway was moving at 65-70 miles per hour, and my car stopped in the third lane. this seems to happen when the vehicle is moving and it is getting very dangerous for me and other drivers.
I bought a new 2014 jeep cherokee limited and after one week, check engine light came on and car wouldn't start. taken back to dealership and was told it was fixed. since then the jeep shifts very hard making the suv lurch forward at times and other times it will shift into a lower gear when speeds over 50 mph and make the suv jerk to a slower speed. when cruising down a hill without pushing the accelerator, suv will shift gears many different times causing the jeep to lurch forward quickly without warning. when trying to pass a car on the hwy, it takes jeep a few seconds to "catch" the gear and make it go faster. i have had several near misses of other cars hitting me and me, hitting others due to the unpredictability of speeds and jerking forward. i have had the suv in the shop 4 times for "software updates" and told that would fix the problem. it has never fixed the problem. most recent near miss was yesterday 29 dec due to downshifting wile moving at higher speeds and causing the suv to slow dramatically without warning. *js
