We have classified the 227 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I bought my jeep cherokee 2014 awd with 60k miles on it. within in 6 months, my dashboard said service transmission and it was undriveable. the dealership said it was software issue and fixed it. not even a year later and i had the same issue again and it is now getting a new transmission. often when driving, it revs very high and goes nowhere, or if i'm cruising a parking lot, its revving very high and will jerk into another gear. not only that, but i've had know drive shaft bearing ands a new radio put it. the big issue is the transmission and the repeated tows, missing work, late to work, engine shaking, grinding, and now being replaced. i've owned it my own for 1.5 years, am already at this point. dealership won't replace it, just told me i have it covered under warrantly and oh well. these issues have happened when starting my car in the morning to leave my driveway, won't shift into gear. driving on the highway attempting to switch lanes and have no acceleration so i slam on the brakes before i get into an accident because i know if it doesn't take off, its not going to until i least expect it.
I first experienced what felt like my transmission wasn't shifting properly right away. i noticed it in lower gears. i took it back to the dealership and they said everything was fine. i then started to experience my engine randomly stalling. i would be going slow and i was usually taking a right turn. i went to turn on my car and it said engine failure. i called the dealership and they said to tow it to them. i received a call that the reason my car ahut off was because there wasn't any oil. i have all my records and my oil had been changed at a dealership less than two weeks prior. so they put oil in it and said i was fine. within a week my car died turning right on rail road tracks in an instersection. we had to have a police officer come and push us off the tracks and wait for us to get towed. the dealership told my there was a harness that needed to be replaced and it would cost $700! they said that he harness was under my hood when i did research it was discovered that it was in my trunk. they said it needed to be replaced due to water damage. in my trunk? i did research and found this harness was a common issue but it didn't have anything to do with the issues i was having. now it is a year later and we are having the same issue. my service lights will turn on randomly. my engine stalled on the highway going 70 mph. i am at a loss what to do. my two year old has been in the car with me when this happens and i just want to know my car is safe to drive.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the consumer stated it was a wire harness malfuction. the vehicle is effected while in motion, and shifts to neutral state then stops due to loss of power. after car is turned on power is restored with trouble codes appear with no reasoning. the wire harness recall was addressed via reset, but wire harness was not replaced. the vehicle was taken to sherman dodge chrysler jeep ram (7601 skokie blvd, skokie, il 60077, 866-650-8000) the failure mileage was 45,000. *tt *tr

The radio and all functions related to this, including heat/ac, back up camera, environmental controls, hands free calling, intermitantly go off. sometimes when i start the car, need to wait 15 minutes or more before it starts. other times it fails when driving. jeep dealer stated the radio went bad and needs replacing. he also stated that he needs to replace these regularly
While driving on a city street at approximately 45 mph. the vehicle shifted out of gear, lunges and goes again in a jerking/ hesitating manner. check engine light came on and service transmission light came on. pulled over put in park and re selected a gear. when doing so it makes a horrific grinding noise and has no power. the battery has been replaced twice since 2014 for a "bad battery" after both of these replacements within 4 months we have now experienced these transmission problems. i stress this is the second time with the transmission issue and also the second time for the battery replacement.
Left visor no power also garage door opener no power wires smelled like they were burning while driving jeep later i found out no power left visor & garage door opener no power
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 65 mph in the rain, the windshield wiper motor failed and the exterior and interior lighting shut off. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. once the vehicle was restarted, the lights turned back on and the vehicle operated normally. the vehicle was taken to bemidji chrysler center (located at 755 paul bunyan dr nw, bemidji, mn 56601, (218) 751-8006) where it was diagnosed, but a failure could not be found. in addition, while driving 35 mph, the steering wheel seized and the brake pedal failed to stop the vehicle when it was depressed. as a result, the contact crashed into a fence. there were no injuries. a police report was not filed. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the vehicle was able to be driven from the scene and was not diagnosed for the brake and steering failures. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

Car cuts off going about 40mph. steering locked up. while i was on highway. problem occurred multiple times. unsafe vehicle purchased top warranty and i'm still being charged for repair. purchased the car used has 40,000 miles. and i have had the car for 3 months yet! car stared back up and wouldn't let me go over 20mph.
I parked my car in the garage as usually (so vehicle was parked). on top of my garage there is my neighbor's apartment and my apartment is on top of the neighbor's apartment. i am completely sure that, when i came home the night before, i had shut off the car (using the push button- the car has a keyless ignition system) but in the middle of the night the car turned on by itself. we don't know for how long the car was running but it ran enough time to fill my neighbor's apt. with fumes and also the fumes reached my apt. upstairs where i was sleeping with my daughter. the two of us (my daughter and i) were lucky because i had all my windows open (it was hot that night) but my neighbor ended up in the hospital for 3 weeks. at least 19 deaths have been reported nations wide due to keyless ignition malfunctioning issues. there should be some sort of automatic shut down after a certain amount of time but there isn't one in any car that have this keyless ignition system. also very few manufacturers have added a beeping or audio alarm to warn drivers they have walked away with the fob but failed to turn off the ignition. i did turned off my car but still it turned on by itself, causing my car to idle in the garage for many hours. i believe the start/stop button on the dashboard of my car is actually malfunctioning. however when i told this to jeep dealer they said the car is perfect and they want to give me back only $15k. i paid $24k for that very dangerous car! since the incident on september 16th,2017 i have been having anxiety issues and also i had to rely on the goodwill of friends and the use of a friend's car. i now need to move on from this incident and get a car that i can rely on and feel safe parking it in my garage but i want to make sure that these cars are out of the market asap so none will suffer what we suffered. thank you. ..updated 01/04/18 *bf . updated 8/20/18*jb *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to ourisman chrysler, dodge, jeep of bowie, maryland where the vehicle was diagnosed as having a faulty alternator. the dealer stated that the contact would have to pay for the repair because it was previously repaired under an alternator recall in 2015. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 94,000.
Was driving the car and transmission started to disengage. rpms were going high but the car was not moving. later that day, the car lunged and the service transmission light came on the car dashboard. the car would go in reverse but not forward. we turned it off, then back on. same issue but the car let us drive it home. had to have the car towed to the dealership. this is a 2014 jeep cherokee trailhawk with only 22,000 miles. the transmission has been acting up since the day we purchased it. it's an automatic shift, but it is very rough, the car hestiates when you press on the gas. not surpised that the transmission has gone out on a 3-year old car with only 22,000 miles - pityful.
A pop-up message appears that the "vehicle phone requiers service" the gps becomes inoperative and causes loss of gps function. these faults are discussed i service bulletin sb-10058300-8397. this happens intermittently and can occur at anytime. this occurred within the warranty period and but was reported to jeep 3 days after the warranty period. it was intermittent at the time and i thought it was just a computer glitch. it is now so unreliable that it is useless. jeep refuses to do anything to support repair of this issue which they know exists. their u-connect people have been telling me tere is a software fix for this to put me off for six months but have not produced anythng which could fix this. it is time for a recall on this item so that they are forced to take care of their customers. by the way even though they knew there were potential issues with this function of the radio they failed to inform their customers of the problems. if they had iinformed me this problem would have been reported to them 2 months earlier and within the warranty period. this is wrong, just wrong.

Problems with the lift gate results in a dead battery! the vehicle had been taken to dealer ship explaining that the lift gate would close. service dept indicated that irregardless of the tail gate not closing that the battery shouldn't have been affected because the lights turn off automatically. not true, yet he insisted they were to able to find anything wrong with the lift gate and reprogrammed the vehicle. a week later the same problem occurred and we scheduled yet another appt only to find the dealership needed to order a part and it would be in the next day. woke up this am only to find the vehicle would not start because the battery was dead because the lift gate would not close. this is a reoccurring problem and it was difficult to convince the dealership to fix it. i would like to know if any other owners are experiencing this problem. the vehicle also revs high and upon making a complete it lunges forward when you take your foot off the gas. dealership says they can't find anything wrong with the engine. it seems all they ever do is reprogram the vehicle and feel thats all they need to do. do i have to wait until theres an incident before anyone will look at these problems? please help.
Jeep recall as i was exiting off the freeway, i suddenly noticed a delayed response when stepping on the gas petal to accelerate a bit in order to get to the far right lane. when i released my foot from the gas pedal, the car sounded like it had shut down and the lights inside he vehicle had all shut down as well. the car was still rolling but it was no longer turned on. i quickly tried to turn the key to try to turn the car back on, and stepped on the gas pedal to give it go ahead, but nothing happened. luckily i was able to get to the far right lane and was somewhat out of the traffics way. since the , the car has not been driven, due to safety issues i am not too sure about. unknown. just two days ago, i had the jeep towed to the nearest jeep dealership but it will not be serviced or attended to until a week from now. i work two jobs which are both located at least 15 miles away from my home and not having a vehicle to get to work has put a huge burden on my whole lifestyle and daily routine of obligations. needless to say, the financial burden has created nothing but bitterness towards the manufacture of my jeep. i would like for this nightmare to end and not reoccur again because i won't be able to stay calm and patient next time. if we could at least be provided with a loaner car for unpredicted incidences like this then maybe we could manage and tolerate a bit more. but i can't believe we still have to pay out more money we shouldn't have to be giving. this is the manufactures responsibility to take care of its consumers and to public safety.
Service transmission warning and check engine: vehicle moving uphill, auto transmission shifts to lower gear; transmission begins to slip and ability to maintain speed drops; happened in middle lane of interstate; managed to exit interstate and park; very little power to move vehicle; safely parked and turned off engine. waited 2 - 4 minutes; restarted engine; service transmission warning off; check engine "on". vehicle operated normal; check engine light went off later; had loosened gas cap and retightened to see if check engine light would go out - it didn't have an immediate effect on the light. had to maneuver behind 18 wheeler and crawl speed up the exit ramp. ended up cross ways in a side road for a few minutes while the transmission 'feathered' vehicle to safe spot. no collision this time. vehicle has been in shop for similar complaint one month earlier.and more times previously
After fixing the transmission recall. my transmission has once again started acting up. jeep refuses to switch gears. must service vehicle again. this is an ongoing issue, it seems, with multiple owners. vehicle itself needs to be recalled immediately. vehicle in motion. on highway. (both times)
When i push the gas pedal to accelerate the vehicle does not speed up for some time, i can have the gas pedal pushed to the floor and there is a very long lag time for the car to speed up and switch gears, it is extremely dangerous, i have put in reverse several times to back out of my garage and the car will not go in reverse, the entire car thumps back and forth and hesitates and takes some time to get in gear, my radio has stopped working twice, touch screen blacked out recently while in motion, when attempting to pass a car i can not safely get my speed up, its a real lemon and dangerous, i am waiting to get rear ended, pushing on gas pedal and engine revs up real loud but car does not accelerate like a normal car would, purchased 7 month ago and seems to be having more issues every day, was in a drive through with car on, foot on brake, and car in drive and took foot off brake and hit gas pedal and car did not go like it was in neutral, i had to put in park, turn off and turn on again to put in drive, this vehicle is not safe, will take it in for recall repair tomorrow and if not repairable will be traded, do not purchase, looks nice but terrible transmission
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 70 mph, various warning indicators randomly flashed. the speed decreased and the transmission gears failed to shift from drive to park. the contact coasted the vehicle off the road. the gear was difficult to change from drive to park, so the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. the crash intermittent being disabled, service brakes, and service transmission warning indicators flashed. the vehicle was driven to the dealer. the dealer was unable to schedule an appointment so the vehicle was left at the dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were not available.
While driving the center console display either 1) goes dark for 10-20 seconds and then recycles to on. or, 2) when driving forward shows the rear (backup) view for approx three miles and then goes blue. one restart does not resolve. after 10-15 min second restart and screen shows normal activity. these have happened intermittently over the 3+ yrs we have had this car (bought new). probably a total of 10-12 times. none, other than one, lasting more than 20-25 seconds. jeep dealer in sarasota has asked that we bring it in but since the issue does not happen often they have been unable to replicate so no replacement of parts was done. calls to chrysler have not resolved anything. with intermittent failure of radio/backup system and center console i am concerned about driving the vehicle due to not knowing what will be affected the next time there is a failure. car has less than 23,000 mi. i felt that i needed to buy a mopar service contract to cover whatever may be found to be wrong after the 3 year warranty is up. the personal satisfaction from owning this auto has moved from a positive to a negative experience. additionally, there were several recalls that have required making the drive to sarasota and having the vehicle repaired. most times this has happened when the car is in motion, however there were a couple of times when not moving. no turns required to created problem. interval of occurrence ranges from a few days months. occurrence date below is todays date. as a positive, the dealership has furnished a loaner car when excessive time is taken for the review. *tr
Something strange started happening, it shifted to neutral while i was trying to stop at a red light, almost went through. brakes locked later had it towed to the dealer they kept a few days, said nothing was wrong. from day one i was told it was a 9 speed shift thing and i felt every single one. they told me that was normal. so me unable to do anything about the situation, but trust the dealer, kept driving this car, that i felt unsafe in every second of every day. each day i prayed that it did not happen again. till this day, it still shifts from each gear with a jerk, i notice the persons heads in my car jerk, every time i go from a stop to try to accelerate. it has had such a strong kick when it shifts gears that i felt like i was getting hit in the rear by another vehicle. this continued for a while and then the car began to start oddly, and as i shifted from park to reverse or park to drive the car literally felt as if the engine, transmission, what have you was going to fall out of the bottom of the car. each time i shifted to park to reverse it would jolt. i then tried to go in reverse and the car was sounding and feeling so scary that i had it towed to the dealer yet again. i at this time, was over my miles and due to me leasing the warranty was done, so the dealer would not look at it free, luckily there was a recall on sensor wire harness, powertrain control module and the transmission control module, so they told me they would fix the recall only. the recall was done january 17, 2017. they kept my car for 6 days. after they fixed the recall, the car worked better, the gear shifts have never changed. today is march 28, 2017 and the car began acting the same way prior to the recalls about 2 weeks ago, again i just pray that it will just start. today it almost did not start and the shift to reverse dreadful.
I started my car to warm it up and in about five minutes time the car was on fire. the vehicle was parked in front of my home. the fire department was called and was able to put it out. just a few days ago my insurance company told me the cause was due to an electrical malfunction. the car was a complete loss.

Jeep cherokee recall. i live in colombia and i have a jeep cherokee 2014. this truck has left defective in brakes, transmission always. i have not been informed by "demcautos" about the recall. demcautos. demcautos is the concessionaire where buy my vehicle.
When driving, the vehicle shuts down and message on dash says "car must be in park in order to shift." vehicle will not restart. this problem has happened multiple times while vehicle is in motion. we have had it taken into the dealership with no resolve. after researching, this is a common problem in this year's model that jeep is aware of. however, the common resolution is dealership still claiming an oil change is needed. most recently our jeep was 500 miles under the dealership's recommended oil change. i fear for my family's life if this stall happens when crossing busy highways in town. *tr
I had just picked up my jeep 2014 cherokee trailhawk from the dealership following the s-55 recall software update. (my vehicle was deemed not to need the new transaxle wiring harness parts, only the software update.) upon leaving the dealership, the battery light and alarm chime came on while making a u-turn and the steering became very hard at low speed. at the next traffic light, i experienced a loss of steering as slowing to a stop. when the light turned green, i was able to complete the left turn as the steering re-engaged upon acceleration. i immediately pulled into a parking lot and had extreme difficulty turning into a parking space, as steering went out again as the brakes were applied and speed decelerated to a stop. i was able to limp vehicle back the short distance to the dealership by keeping off the main highway and using parking lots and back streets. this occurrence of events was the same as my husband experienced prior to the s-55 transaxle wiring harness recall software update, except he eventually also lost all emotive power (complaint # 10915926). the service technician at the dealership could not replicate this issue, possibly because i inadvertently turned vehicle off in service lane, which may have reset the system temporarily.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to start. there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 21,000.
Chryslter recall 3 s55 recall repair is taking too long to complete! i'm a heart patient and my wife has parkinson's and we have to trave over a mountain pass to see doctors. we feel unsafe in this car. we can not r]trade due to the length of the recall!
While driving the vehicle, all of a sudden there was a shutdown of the vehicle's computer/electrical system, a loss of any steering control, an immediate vehicle deceleration with no ability to correct by accelerating, and a loss of braking control.
On october 10, 2016, i was driving on an access road next to a highway when my car lost motive power. i was driving at approximately 40mph and i did not have enough time to pull over from the lane i was in. my dashboard kept flashing "service transmission" and also to "put the car in park and re-start." for ten minutes, i attempted to re-start the vehicle and begin driving again. each time i would try to put the car in drive, there was a very loud racket sound from shifting and i had to put the car back in park. finally, on the sixth attempt, i was able to shift into drive without the sound and i immediately drove my car home. i am disheartened as this was a purchase of a used vehicle only a few days prior, on october 8, 2016, that had only 30,000 miles. needless to say, my car is already at my local jeep dealership for repair, and not much reassurance with regards to the associated recall, as parts are not ready yet. this was intended to be a family vehicle, but if it stops while driving, it will render my family completely unsafe. the s55 recall concerns a poorly designed wiring harness, that causes the computer to shift the vehicle into neutral while driving. nhtsa recall number: 16v529 recall date: august 22, 2016 manufacturer recall number: s55
Car randomly stops moving while driving, sometimes while turning a corner. seems like it turns itself off, but lights on dash are still on. i'm not really sure what causes it and am hoping that it will be resolved once they have a solution to the current recall for the transaxle wire harness. have brought it to dealer a few times and they keep telling us it has to do with the 20% oil life. i don't see how that would make a car turn off. and why would they make a car that needs to have the oil changed before the oil life is up or at all.
The engine shut off 11 times while driving in the freeway and in the streets. two of them almost cause an accident while driving up hill and driving in the freeway over a speed of 65mph. the power shuts off without warning while moving and it needs to be restarted once to several times to start the engine. it goes from drive to neutral to rengine shutoff. it kept happeningfor two years now and before the s55 transaxle wire harness. fremont jeep dealership are insisting that it is still okah to drive even after numerous incidents and even if they dont have the parts yet for the recall. stated in the recall information "the loss of motive power could crash without warning". i am very afraid to use the car and afraid for my passenger as well as for other people if ever there will be a major accident that the jeep/chrysler is waiting to happen before they make a move. they dont recommend anything but to wait for indefinite time frame of when the parts gonna be available. i think they want us 2014 jeep cherokee owners risk and sacrifice our life.
