On average, the 2017 Honda CR-V starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 26 354 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2017 Honda CR-V

Shift button popped out of shift handle causing car to not be able to shift into different gears. this occurred while the car was in motion in a parking lot.

Shifter knob broke and fell off gear shifter while in motion upon further investigation i found that honda had issued a service bulletin 19-063 describing the same exact issue as had happened to our vehicle and it referenced nhtsa #10160912 but the service bulletin is vin specific and honda is stating that our vehicle is not covered for repair under this service bulletin. i am questioning them further but it is the same problem as described in the bulletin so maybe the recall/product update needs to be looked at further so that in the future drivers don't experience the shifter knob falling off the gear selector while in motion.

While driving down the hwy at 65 mph the button in the gear shift popped out. it is a piece of plastic and it broke inside the gear handle. i drove home but without this button inserted i am not able to shift to park, reverse, drive. i took it to the westhills honda dealer for repair. i was told there was a recall on this same issue but not for this vin. to me this is a very serious concern.

Shift knob button broke during operation resulting in loss of use of vehicle. battery has been replaced 2 times on vehicle.

The the gearshift button has broken. we have friends with the same exact year make model that did the same exact thing.

Gear shift button popped out while driving: i was driving with my children in the car, the button popped out as i was trying to drop them off at school. this could have been a truly deadly situation in a crowded drop off because the car would not go to park. thankfully i quickly recovered from shock, hit the brakes and scrambled to grab the piece that had fallen to the floor of the car. the button piece looks cheap, so now the coil is exposed. i can't just stick my finger in so i am going to need to tape the button back on until i get it fixed. this is an obvious recall issue since so many people have mentioned it. i wouldn't have reported it if i didn't see so many online complaints.

When driving on a local road from school, my son pressed the accelerator after a stop light. our 2017 honda crv didn't move an inch. thankfully, it was not a highway and the cars behind him were not coming at high speed. we had the car towed to the dealer and it turned out that the transmission was gone and it had to be replaced. we were quite upset that only a two year old car can have this problem and wanted to report the incident,

Gear shift knob snapped off making it impossible to shift into or out of park or reverse. this car is just over 2 years old with 16,000 miles. fortunately for me, the car was stationary when it happened - i had just started it to pull out of a parking space while on vacation.

Stopped vehicle to park and was unable to move shift lever to park. the push button on the shift lever had broken. the vehicle could be turned off, but it could not be started without the shift lever moving to park. this problem has been reported by many, many users!

Button on shifter knob has broken off at approximately 37,000 miles. cannot shift car out of park.

While driving the shift lever push knob button which allows you to shift gears fell out. upon researching this issue on line, apparently it is a well known issue with 2017 and 2018 honda cr-vs. the plastic button breaks inside the shift lever with part falling out and the other portion remaining inside the shift lever. when i returned the vehicle to a honda dealer, they were well aware of this issue and replaced it under warranty. this item should be the subject of a mandatory recall as it poses a hazard when one can't shift the car out of drive etc. i was told at the dealer that it is only replaced if already broken.

Shift knob button broke off while placing the car in drive from park - now i am unable to shift car to park or any other gear. this car only has 19k miles on it and a year and a 1/2 old. there are many reports of this same problem on the internet and on youtube - i have never in all of my years driving had a similar issue with a shift button.

Car would not go into "park" after trying. the gear shift would not go past neutral. the vehicle was stopped and sitting in a parking spot. fortunately the dealer was close after attempting to shift numerous times was able to move. took my cr-v to the dealer and they replaced the spring and the knob you press to change gears. they said this was covered by warranty. they had the knob and spring readily available which tells me they know about this issue.

Push button on transmission shift lever broke and fell completely out. transmission lever could not be moved. vehicle was stationary, running and could not be turned off.

The push button on the gear shift sprung out of the "t" gear shift handle after i placed the car in reverse. i was had not left my driveway when i discovered the unusual object in the tray between the seats and quickly realized what it was. the broken plastic retaining clip and a spring were also laying on a receipt in the tray.i was able to place the button back into the shifter and go to work. i have read online that other 2017 cr vs have this issue and one of the honda blogs said this might become a recall. i hope so, as my 25 month out car has 36,000 + miles and is out of warranty.

Gear shift lock release button broke which prevents the transmission from being returned to park.

Fuel is penetrating the oil in the engine. strong gasoline smell is present on the outside of the vehicle after driving it, regardless of distance. gasoline smell fills cabin while driving vehicle. problems are occurring regardless of distance driven or terrain. fuel is diluting the oil in the vehicle in such large amounts that the oil level is beyond the full level on the oil dip-stick. took vehicle to the dealership, and they informed me that it is a know issue, but that they could not fix it since there is no recall active.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while attempting to shift the vehicle out of park, the button on the gear shifter popped out. the contact had to use a house key to reach inside the knob and move the gear into neutral. the vehicle was driven to richards honda (13413 millersville green blvd, baton rouge, la 70816) where it was diagnosed that the shifter knob needed replacement. the vehicle was currently being repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

The button on the gear shift has broken off. the car cannot be put into gear or gears changed without a tool inserted to push internal button. it was stationary when it fell off, but i was not able to get the car into gear.

As i was parked and put the car into reverse the gear shift knob broke off and i having a difficult time shifting into gear because shift knob is no longer attached.

When turning sharp the rear end makes a grinding sound and will jerk. i believe this is the differential grinding. was told it just needed serviced at 17,000. i did this and problem was not fixed.

Message "shutter grille problem. power reduced." when driving at highway speed on a upgrade towing a small trailer, this message appeared and the speed of the crv immediately reduced by approximately 20 mph, almost causing an accident. i shut the vehicle off and waited (very shaken) for about 15 minutes and restarted the car and it acted normally. the dealer doesn't seem to know why this happened even though i could have been killed by the reduction in speed. (and it has happened to others with crvs who have reported this online.) this car mostly driven in canada.

The push button on the gear select lever fell off after shifting to drive. the i had to search the floor where the button fell and place it back into the select lever in order to shift to park. now the button easily falls off. it looks like the plastic inside the push knob broke.

Gear shift button popped out when i pulled up in my driveway at home. fortunately i was able to put it in park.

Gear shift lever button broke while shifting to reverse to back out of garage. parts flew out. called local honda dealer and was told "this is a common occurrence" with that year crv's.

My 2017 honda cr-v has had a few problems. current issues: 1) biggest complaint the gear shift button literally just fell off today when i put my car in park. the silver button that goes into the side fell into the floor. it seemed more & more loose over the last few days, but i didn't think much of it. i should've. it's a cr-v. 2) for the last few months my passenger back seat door won't lock or unlock with my key fob or when i click the button. i have to manually push it. which means if all the doors aren't locked the car won't lock the other doors. my car is not secure when i'm leaving it parked.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost power and decelerated in the middle of the highway. the contact was able to coast the vehicle onto the shoulder. the contact waited a moment, restarted the vehicle, and all the warning indicators were illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to team honda (4613 e lincoln hwy, merrillville, in 46410, (219) 947-3900) where it was diagnosed that a new transmission was needed. the contact did not know if the vehicle was being repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,000. the vin was unknown.

The button on the gear shifter cracked when pressure was applied by my thumb when trying to shift from park to drive causing the vehicle to not be able to shift in and out of gear. fortunately the car was in park at the time instead of drive or reverse. after the gear shift button cracked the key would no longer release from the ignition.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while the vehicle was in reverse, the gear shifter knob detached. the contact reached into the gear shifter compartment and engaged the gear into park. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to coggin honda of ft. pierce (4450 south u.s. 1, fort pierce, fl 34982, (772) 621-5991) where it was diagnosed that the spring, button, and knob needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 09342672. the failure mileage was 24,000.

During normal shifting of the automatic transmission lever, the push button release on the shifting knob broke in two. the unit was under slight spring tension and popped out after splitting in two. the car was stuck in drive and i was unable to control the transmission. this happened while the vehicle was parked. upon a quick internet search and after discussions with a factor maintenance representative, it appears this has been a common problem.

I was going to pull into a parking spot at a store and tube parking gear would not move into park. i was pushing the button in to move from drive to park and it would not move. then the button just popped out. i was stuck as i scrambled to find the broken button. luckily when i found it i could put it in to move it to park even though it was broke. my car is a year old and when i looked online tons of people had the same thing happen to them. issue is in their cases their button completely broke and they could not move the gear shiftier. they had to use pliers. it is a cheap plastic button honda is using. this is a safety hazard and needs to be recalled .next time i may not be so lucky. honda did replace the button and i have the documents from this.

When pulling into a driveway at a friends house, i could not shift the car into park. i finally got it into neutral and worrying that i might have to have it towed, i put the car in reverse and had intentions of parking it in the street. when i got it into reverse, the shift button broke off and spring fell on the ground. ended up getting it to the honda dealer on 01/07/2019 who apparently has seen a lot of these. car had around 13,500 miles on it at the time of the incident.

I own a 2017 honda cr-v 1.5 turbo fwd and my vehicle is suffering from the affects of 'oil dilution.' i regularly have my oil changed by honda, but i noticed, upon returning from a long trip in northern inidiana over winter, a strong odor of gasoline when checking my oil-dipstick and the volume was much higher than expected. when i brought my vehicle to honda, i was advised that honda was aware of a problem for all 2017-2018 cr-v 1.5 turbos with residual gas dripping into the cylinders and eventually the oil crank-case, called 'oil dilution'. i asked the honda technician to check for gasoline in my oil, but they said no such test was available. he advised me that no fix currently exists, aside from more frequent oil changes. i then followed up with the lead technician at my dealer to resolve the safety concern, but i was verbally told that honda does not intend to address the issue unless litigation is mandated. i believe this problem posses a major safety concern as these vehicles age and the risk of engine seizure or explosion increase. honda north america's position is that since there are so few 2017 cr-vs with turbo on the road, they do not see a reason to act. there is a fundamental problem with this honda turbo fuel injection system, which was fixed for the 2019 models. a software patch is being issued by honda canada, but this is not offered in southern states and honda refuses to comment on the long term impact and degraded performance. i am deeply concerned for the safety of my family and fellow drivers.

I check engine oil yesterday and found level very high on dipstick and smelling strongly of gasoline. i called the honda dealer checkered flag where i purchased the vehicle and took it directly there.it had only been 180 miles driven since last oil change at dealer. they offered to change oil again and then told me to keep checking oil level and return to dealer in 1000 miles. i was told the oil level was half quart over filled and was because gas was not being burned during combustion because engine was not hot enough. they said it was normal and not to worry. i don't think the oil will protect my engine when it is so diluted with gasoline.i filed a complaint and got a case number [xxx] from honda america, but want the problem to be fixed before there is long term damage to my engine. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Shifter button (knob) on side of shifter fell out. car was stationary running - just started vehicle but in "park". part appears to be broken plastic. grayish color is possible failure area (photo attached). 12/31/18; 5:50 pm est; odometer 19907

The plastic shift knob button popped out of the shifter handle while the car was running and in gear. i could not stop the engine or shift gears. fortunately, i was able to locate the plastic button from the floor of the car with my left hand and insert it loosley into the shifter handle and then put the car into park and turn the engine off.

The shifter knob, honda part no. honda 54132tlaa62zb, fell off during use. this locks the transmission in whatever gear was last used - a potentially dangerous situation. the heritage honda service advisor tells me that honda is experiencing a lot of these failures.

One of the buttons on the shift handle broke apart. car could not be shifted into park or reverse, only into drive1 and drive 2. engine could be turned off but not the accessories thereby causing battery failure. car was being parked in a parking lot. towing company and dealer service representative stated this has occurred before.

Automatic gear shift handle button (shift lever knob )broken (came apart into pieces)。unable to change gears。

Shift lever button broke. unable to put in park or neutral creating an unsafe condition.

Gear shift button breaks. does not let you shift back into park. leaves stuck in the position that the button broke in. many complaints on you tube, dangerous problem, car should be recalled.

Oil diluted with fuel, over full. strong fuel odor in vehicle.

User interface (ui) for radio operates inconsistently. began having issues within a few weeks of owning the vehicle. touchscreen repeatedly freezes, goes black, or the volume is unable to be controlled. frequently the volume will go all the way to the highest level alone or while you are trying to adjust it up/down. the only solution for all of the radio issues are to roll the windows down so you don't lose your hearing and pull the car over, shut the car off, & restart the car. this is startling when the volume goes all the way up and is a major safety concern. you cannot hear what's going on around you & are in a dangerous predicament in trying to get pulled over somewhere safe to restart your car. i began reporting the issue in september 2017 to my dealership and was told the problem was with apple. now honda states that it is a "known issue" but has provided no solution. i have numerous videos of these occurrences for documentation. additionally, my engine oil smells of gasoline. the dipstick reads high and the honda dealership has advised me to change the oil every 1,000 miles and to not drive short trips. the engine hesitated once while in traffic. the engine does not heat up at idle and during cold weather you cannot operate your window defroster. this causes safety issues because you can't see out the windows. the only solution is to ride with the windows down when it's cold in order to see. while driving the car down the interstate at approx. 20,000 miles i heard a pop. when i arrived at my destination, i saw that the gear shifter knob popped out. this rendered me unable to shift my car from drive to any other gear. honda seems to be aware of this issue, as the service tech and advisor both stated that this happens "all the time." dealership replaced knob. honda made a defective & dangerous product. they refuse to remedy the problems.

When i went to put my car into park (car was stationary in a parking spot) the knob was missing and nowhere to be found. i was unable to put the car into park. i had to ask a stranger to look around the floor bed and other possible places so i could exit my vehicle. it randomly pops out (while driving) and i am constantly looking for it. how can i safely drive a car when i might not be able to put the car into park?

1.5 turbo engine has gasoline mixing with oil (oil dilution) i have 3000 miles since oil change and is about 3/4 quart over full mark, oil has extreme smell of gasoline. honda is aware of this problem but seems to be doing nothing to help owners in what they call "warmer climate states". this should be veiwed as an emissions problem at some pont by the nhtsa. i have been to dealer twice for verification of problem, they cannot do anything until honda corporate authorizes the fix which is being done in cold climate areas.

Engine oil was 1 quart overfull. oil smells like gasoline. engine oil visibly thinner than normal. reportedly, this problem is systemic with cr-v's as ours with the turbo 4 cylinder. the gasoline should be evaporating due to engine temp; but, it's not -- as a result the gasoline dilutes the engine oil and causes the oil level to rise.

The shift knob on the gear broke loose. this has caused the gear to unable to shift into park. dealer is aware of the problem so they had parts on hand to replace for customers.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. the contact stated that while attempting to park in the garage, the gear shifter handle fractured. the contact had to force the shifter into the park position. the following day the vehicle was towed to the dealer lucas honda of jacksonville (7801 branding blvd, jacksonville, fl 32244) where they determined that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and replaced the handle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

Gear shift button broke making it difficult or impossible to put car in the "p" parking gear. the shift button eventually came all the way out. vehicle was stationary when trying to change gears into "park". finally got it into park with some difficulty. wife not happy and worried about safety if she can't put the car into park.

At 6,000 miles engine is experiencing oil dilution. oil is above max level on dipstick and smells strongly of gas, vehicle was cold and stationary when oil level was checked. called a nearby honda service center and they advised that the vehicle should be brought in for an oil change. the vehicle was just in for scheduled maintenance (including an oil change) 1,000 miles ago. an automobile should not require an oil change after 1,000 miles of use.
