We have classified the 159 complaints from 2017 Honda CR-V about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Vehicle battery will die after two days of non starting. this happens constantly.
I have a 2017 honda crv. this is the second time i had the same issue. all my warning light electric parking brake problem, charging system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, electric parking brake problem, brake hold system problem, power steering system (eps) problem, vehicle stability assist (vsa) problem, hill start assist problem. are back on. when this happens for the first time dealership tole me their was an update to the system which will fix the issue. month later i am having the same issue.
Continuation of complaints 11307119, and 11307127. i called the dealership where i purchased the car new and explained what had been going on with the car. i was told to bring the car in. i took the car in and waited. i was later informed the honda recommended that the plugs be replaced and oil change and a software update. i was later told that i would need to have the injectors replaced and i would have to pay for the repair. i was told they would need to order parts and provided me with a car and i left, it was a friday. monday i went to pickup the car. i was charged $1800 plus for the repair. i left and everything seemed ok but before i got home the alarm engine emission problem came up. next day i called back and was told to bring in and they would look at it again. the message is still there.
This is a continuation of complaint 11307119 in which i had to tow car to dealership for service. i received a call after christmas that my car was ready for pickup and there was nothing wrong with it but it was out of gas. i went to pick up the car and was charged $100 plus for the three gallons of gasoline. i got in the car, started it, it was running rough then as i started to leave all the warnings came up again, i pulled back around to the service bay and got the attention of the service rep and showed him the warnings on the dash. he got a technician and hooked up a diagnostic tool but said he saw no codes, so he got a computer and hooked it up and said all he saw was an evap code, but all the warnings were on display. i was told to leave car so they could check further. i left in the loaner. a couple days later i was called and told they would need to tear the engine down to try to find the problem and i would need to approve the work and agree to pay if it were deemed not covered by warranty. i agreed. i was later called and told it needed to have the injectors replaced and it would not be covered and the cost would be $1440. i told the rep the car was not safe to drive and they should continue with the repair.. later that day i called and was told i could pick up the car, i went to get the car and was told it had not been repaired and a note was on service record that the customer had declined to have the car repaired. i was very confused and upset. i commented about my displeasure and concern for safety, i was told i received great service especially since i did not purchase care there. i was also charged $300 plus and the car was not repaired and unsafe. i asked to see service manager but was told he was not in. i paid the bill and left. before i got home the car went into limp mode again and all the warnings came up also.
My 2017 honda began displaying multiple warning messages which would cause the function for the message to be disabled. example, cruise control, not working, hill assist not working and all messages would display and nothing working. usuall the next day the messages would clear and function return. it got more frequent and ultimately did not clear, stayed on constantly. then one day while traveling on a busy interstate highway the vehicle lost power and would not accelerate, before i was able to get to the shoulder of the road i narrowly avoided being struck in the rear by a semi truck and trailer barreling down on me. i did make it off and turned the ignition off waited a short while and restarted the motor. there was a new message in the display "vehicle emission problem" . i pulled onto the road and was able to make it home. this was the weekend and the following monday i called the local honda dealership and scheduled a service appointment. i took the car in and explained what had happened. i waited in the lobby and shortly the service rep told me parts needed to be ordered and i would notified when they came so my car could be repaired, i was also told it would be covered under warranty. a few days i was called and took the car in for repair. i waited and later was told my car was ready. i left and all seemed well until the next day when i was driving to work, all the alarms displayed and the functions in alarm did not work. the car also went into limp mode again and i had to pull over. i called the dealership and was told to bring the car back in. the next morning while going to work the car again lost power and stopped. all the alarms were up including emission system problem, the car would not restart. i called the dealership and told them what happened and i had the car towed in. a loaner car was provided. this was christmas eve.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while driving approximately 45 mph, all the warning indicators on the instrument cluster started to flash. the brakes were applied without the brake pedal being depressed. the contact stated that the failure occurred sporadically for the past year. the vehicle was taken to frank leta honda (500 auto mall dr, o'fallon, mo 63368) five times and they repaired the vehicle, according to their records. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and contact was asked to submit all the records and bills. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
I have had multiple instances where several system alerts pop up on my dashboard for no apparent reason (lane keeping assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, collision mitigation system problem, and brake system light). this has happened intermittently since i first owned my brand new car (the first time it happened was one month after owning it). i have taken it to my dealer several times and they have tried various things, but honda has yet to come up with a proper solution. this has happened both when turning my car on, as well as when i'm driving.
On three recent occasions while driving, the dashboard warning lights indicated multiple system failures including a brake system problem. the car was going about 25-35 mph each time going straight. on all instances, the car seemed fine despite the warnings. in the first two instances the warning lights went out after about one minute and in the third instance it stayed on even when the engine was shut off although it did go out after the car was shut off overnight and restarted. it is very concerning when any warning goes off but especially so when it indicates a brake problem. the dealership was of no help stating they could not do anything unless it was happening when they looked at it. they claimed to have never seen this problem but there are multiple reports online and i know several people who have had the same experience.
Shift knob button broke during operation resulting in loss of use of vehicle. battery has been replaced 2 times on vehicle.
The emissions light came on, started to have an odor of gasoline in the cabin, fuel milage has decreased, rough idle, hesitation in acceleration. happen in motion, stationary, and when vehicle was off. this vehicle is used mostly on the highway, in the mid-atlantic region.
Display monitor goes completely dark. have to turn vehicle off and restart for it to come back.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. the contact stated that the anti-lock braking system, lane departure assist, collision mitigation system, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruse control, some driver assist not operating, radar obstructed and auto high beam warning indicators flashed while the vehicle was being driven. the contact also stated that the failures were intermittent and has recurred for approximately 3 years. the vehicle was taken to honda of annapolis, 1736 west st, annapolis, md 21401 to be diagnosed. the mechanic was not able to replicate the failure. the vehicle had been taken to the dealer twice. after the vehicle was turned off the fault codes were erased. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed about a technical service bulletin number: 17064 (radar software). the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 200.
Three potentially serious electrical issues are summarized: twice in the last month while highway driving the instrument panel quickly flashed the following warning messages: 1) adaptive cruise control (acc) problem; 2) road departure mitigation system problem; 3) collision mitigation system problem; 4) brake system problem. drivability was not affected at the time, though the messages caused immediate concerns about what caused these to appear for no apparent reason while driving. weather and roads were clear. i had to pull over and restart the vehicle, which cleared the error displays and instrument panel returned to normal operation. while driving (city and highway) the vehicle brightness control on the info screen will randomly start to beep and flash repeatedly. the screen cycles between dark and various info displays while the audio system keeps playing. the touchscreen controls on the screen are non-responsive when this happens. stopping and restarting the vehicle restores the display to normal. this occurs while the car is in motion with no particular reasons for the abnormal behavior. this situation with the display has reoccurred more than a dozen times since i purchased the car (dec 2017). the most recent occurrence happened near the end of a 600-mile driving day. yesterday the car would not start, battery issue was determined to be the likely problem after placing a service assist call to honda. a jump start and problem was resolved. mileage approx. 19,000. this is the second time this occurred since owning the car. the first time it happened within a couple of months of owning the car. in both instances, the car had been parked less than 2 hours. parking brake was not set in either case.
Car windows roll down by themselves without any contact with key fob. this happened when car was not turned on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. the contact stated that the rear hatch would not open and the engine was difficult to start. later, while driving approximately 70 mph, the forward collision avoidance system erroneously activated and caused the vehicle to abruptly stop. the vehicle was taken to flow honda of burlington (2920 s. church st, burlington, nc) where it was diagnosed that the battery was faulty and the automatic braking system required an update. the battery was replaced and the update was performed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,135. the consumer stated the brake warning indicator occasionally illuminates.*js
My 2017 crv-ex has had its battery drained twice. with only 4600 miles driven. i've had the battery drained after 2 days to less then 24 hours. i'm on my third time now.
I was driving my honda cr-v on a city street all off sudden the low tire pressure and brake system failure came on and the car just stalled and won't start. once i got off the car, the locked and i couldn't unlock the door anymore. i towed it home as the dealership was closed for the day. now the lights come on and the dash lights up and i can't turn it off.
Issue with drained battery/ vsa modulator. vehicle lights won't turn off when shutting off vehicle. key fob will not work because vehicle battery will die. once jumped, vehicle will die again. battery has been checked and it doesn't seem to need replacing yet no active recall reported.
I was driving home when all of a sudden all of the warning lights on my dash turned on and my brakes did not work so i could stop the vehicle so i shifted into park to finally stop the car.
While driving my 2017 crv, the screen/radio will freeze. i can't turn off the radio, change the source or channel. there is no sound. after the car is off for several minutes and restarted the screen/radio works normally.

This past summer, i was driving by myself when all of the sudden, the infotainment center (the screen that controls everything and is at the center of it all) started beeping uncontrollably and the screen's brightness setting started going from full brightness to full darkness. i had no idea what was going on. i was terrified and almost got into a car accident, rear ending the car in front of me. i became very distracted and startled. i wasn't sure if the car computer or battery was over heating, i wasn't sure if i should pull over across two lanes of traffic to make an emergency stop...it was terrible. i tried everything to get it to stop. nothing would do it. luckily, i was a few minutes away from home. i pulled into my driveway in a panic and shut the car off. i turned it back on and it was gone. i chalked this up to maybe a one time computer glitch and let it go. two days later on the highway, the same thing happened. this continued many more times randomly without any warning or explanation. i never received a notice or warning in the mail. i wish my story ended there, but it doesn't. the random obnoxious beeping and flashing eventually stopped. however, two weeks ago i was driving home from work at night and noticed i could barely see the lines on the road. i almost hit a deer. confused, i realized the brightness was turned all the way up on the infotainment center and on the screen directly behind the steering wheel. i attempted to turn the brightness down, but quickly realized the screens were frozen on the highest brightness setting. even when i would press the (-) symbol to turn it down, it would scale down to the lowest setting, yet remain on full brightness. honda told me they couldn't do anything. tonight, i almost hit a pedestrian because i couldn't see them until the last minute. i've never been so mortified. something has to be done. i have videos.
The vehicle brightness control on the center screen beeps and flashes at random times. the beeping alone is very distracting. the screen often goes dark. it's necessary to restart the vehicle in order to "reset" the display, a possibly dangerous situation on the highway. vehicle is typically in motion each time this has occurred on various roadways. this situation with the display has reoccurred approximately ten times thus far.
I was accelerating onto a highway when the car suddenly lost acceleration and power, made a high pitched squeal with receipt of the following warnings/alarms: brake system warning, loss of collision avoidance system, electric parking brake problem, road departure mitigation system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, hill assist problem, vehicle stability assist problem, power steering system problem, brake hold problem, emissions system problem to name a few. this is more than troublesome, the guy behind me almost hit me and had to swerve to avoid an accident. more recently i was driving on a highway at night when i lost my headlights and parking lights. in addition the following alarms locked in brake system warning, adaptive cruise control problem, lane keeping assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure system problem, auto high beam system problem. its one thing to get warnings its another to loose your headlights and parking lights on a busy dark highway. i shudder to think what could have happened. honda does not know what is happening. how can they sell a $30,000 + vehicle and have safety issues such as these? somebody needs to act quickly before folks are killed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while the contact's friend was driving 75 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact's friend claimed that she smelled an odor coming from the vehicle. the vehicle was pulled over and turned off. when the contact's friend attempted to restart the vehicle, all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle would not restart. the vehicle was towed to port charlotte honda (1252 tamiami trail, port charlotte, fl 33953, 941-564-3343) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed. the dealer informed the contact that they repaired the motor and changed the battery; however, the failure recurred three days later. the contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer and was informed that the battery was never changed and that they would replace the battery to repair the defect. the manufacturer was notified regarding the failures and complaint number: 09758024 was filed. the failure mileage was 24,600.
If i parked this car over two nights, its battery will die and need to call aaa to jump it. it occurs over five times in only two years. then i changed my battery, it still happened and i also turn off all light in my cars.
I had parked my car for 4 days while away on a business trip. i came back and the car was totally dead. it wouldn't start, i could not even open the doors without the emergency key. i purchased a charger and i spent several hours charging it back up before i could drive again. i had the parking brake on due to the fact i had parked in my driveway which had a mild slope to it. online research indicated this was a recurring problem in 2017s when you apply parking break. honda service bulletin 17-032. but no recall and i understand that doesn't always fix the electrical drain on the system. i already purchased a battery once when it happened before and i ignorantly didn't look up the problem.
Twice now the car when in lane departure has slammed on the breaks. yesterday there was a car behind me who had to swerve to avoid rear ending me. i have complained to honda and they basically will not acknowledge me. electronicaly there are other issues the screen goes black and flashes consistently and only will resolve when i turn the car off and restart. the car is unsafe to drive so i am now without a car.
While diving randomly at high speeds (60+ mph) and while turning in very good weather all warning lights light up (i have a video) and the vehicle loses power. this has happened a number of times on the highways and a major safety concern. i had to pull out of the highway stop and restart for the vehicle to regain power but the warning lights continue to be lit. after a couple of start and stop it disappears. it is a major safety concern and i have been lucky so far. i have approached the dealership thrice about the issue and they have replaced 2 sensors and updated the software but the issue persists.
While placing car into park shifter button broke out.
Using the electronic emergency brake drains the battery to dead. this happened within two months of new and i have stopped using it. now the infotainment screen is not working correctly for the radio. partial display with sound and without sound after numerous reboots.
Display console becomes erratic showing different screens, usually starting first with brightness level indicator, and then moving into different screens. the rate the screen changes increases with time. dealer stated previously that honda is aware of issue and that it needed a software update which was in beta testing. the incident rate for this to happen is increasing. my second trip to the dealership today (i think a year later) and they still do not have a fix. to stop the cascade, you have to stop the car and turn it off. it is a significant distraction when driving and is unpredictable. have also noted lane departure system will engage at odd times (no actual lane departure or identifiable road issues). the main dash display failed to boot on start up recently. the gear knob has had to be replaced within the first year.
I've been to the dealership 5 times now for the same issues: road departure mitigation system failure, adaptive cruise control problem, collision mitigation system problem. i have also been driving the vehicle and with no one in front of me, the car will beep, flash brake, and then the brake system will activate. when this happens the seat belts lock up from the sudden braking. i was told there is an update, and they installed it, supposedly, and the problem should be fixed. i am still having all these problems, and i am now being told there is a software update that is coming out next month. let me reiterate that while driving on the highway the vehicle will randomly brake with no one in front of me. i also had my gear shifter button pop out and brake while shifting to drive the other day. i had to drive to honda, and get that replaced, and was told that it is a common problem.
The automatic breaking function is randomly applying the brakes, or warning to brake, at random times when there are no other vehicles or people around the car. the automatic braking system has applied itself 3 times, with very hard braking to the point that the seatbelts locked up, while merging or exiting the freeway, going anywhere from 25-45 mph'ish. one time i was almost rear ended and the vehicle behind had to swerve to avoid hitting me (because they were also tailgating), another time was while exiting a bridge, and the most recent was this morning while merging onto the freeway in front of a big rig and the brakes randomly slammed themselves on for absolutely no reason. while driving on surface streets it has automatically applied the brakes lightly at least twice, and given countless false braking warnings when driving around city streets. this is a major safety hazard!
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. the contact stated that while their daughter drove home, the engine shuttered violently and decreased in speed leading to the vehicle stalling. the vehicle was then later started and the lane mediation and crash sensor warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to rick hendrick honda of charleston (1539 savannah hwy, charleston, sc 29407 (843) 279-0447 where the vehicle was diagnosed that the failure was related to a spare tire that needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure later reoccurred. the contact stated that later all the tires were replaced due to wear and tear but the failure persisted. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was informed that the system was rebooted however the contact confirmed that the system reboot was not performed as the dealer stated. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,774.
All electrical warning lights go on. been in shop 3 times within the last 6 months )twice in the last 2 weeks) supposedly giving off different codes even though the symptoms are the same. twice vehicle was moving but dry weather. once started after being in garage. dealer keeps saying it is different problems causing the same thing which concerns me.
On multiple occasions, while the vehicle is in motion, the system has made an alert sound and the instrument panel has provided the following notifications: "break system" indicator is lit; collision mitigation system problem; road departure mitigation system problem; and today (3/28/2019) while the cruise control was engaged, it also displayed adaptive cruise control problem. it shuts down these systems and the car drives with a slight "drag" to its movement. the only way to correct this issue is to pull over, turn the car off, wait, and then restart. the system checks itself and resets. this is unpredictable, cannot be specifically initiated, and therefore is difficult to take for repair when there is no indication at the time of the vehicle being in need of repair. there is clearly something wrong with the software, the computer, or an electrical connection. i am the original owner, vehicle was purchased in october 2017.
Radio turns on and off, radio stations switch around, brightness goes up and down, phonebook gets run through and calls random people, google maps history starts being displayed as if someone is looking up my location, windshield wipers go on and off. radio volume turns way up. i unplug my phone and someone will reconnect it using bluetooth. it has been happening 3 times a week over 6 months. dealership has no security updates for me
Vehicle is unable to start after shutdown with no diagnosed cause. after successful shutdown (parked), vehicle will be unable to battery start, with lights and dashboard electronics flashing and starter unable to engage when pressing start button with brake pedal depressed. vehicle requires jump start for successful start upon symptoms appearing. vehicle has been brought to honda dealerships several times for diagnosis and service, but no identifiable cause has been found. upon latest visit, car was unable to start immediately after parking car at dealership. dealership diagnosed battery (normal, gr8, ed-18 tests) and both tests passed with normal parameters. dealership performed parasitic draw test with no abnormal draw found. dealership applied honda technical service bulletin (tsb) 17-032 and did not fix problem. this problem occurs seemingly at random intervals and with no pattern to what could cause the battery to be unable to start the car. problem appears after parking with or without parking brake engaged prior to shutdown, after no driving activity for several weeks, and also after driving for several hours prior to shutdown. no accessories or lights are left on or plugged in to the car's electrical system during periods of no driving activity. this problem suggests that there is an undiagnosed issue with the electrical system on this vehicle. honda at this time seems unwilling or unable to remedy the issue even though it presents a safety issue - the inability to start/move vehicle after driving.
Battery dies after sitting for 5+ days. new battery installed, same issue. tsb-032 has been applied, still have the problem.
Electric console will turn on and off by itself, change brightness, and keeps changing screens while beeping. no way to stop it except to pull over, turn off vehicle and restart. it has done this 5 times now in 1 month. very distracting and dangerous besides annoying. it happens whether you are driving or parked. lights on or off.
The push-button start does not engage on the first try quite often. it then takes three or four presses, removing and reapplying the brake pedal, to get the ignition to engage. i have not noticed any pattern to the failures, such as cold engine, weather conditions. this is not a single event so how do i answer when? the dealer was advised repeatedly of the problem but will not even acknowledge the problem -although i don't know if you consider it a safety problem. it has persisted from when it was brand new march 2017 until now.
My 2017 honda cr-v has had a few problems. current issues: 1) biggest complaint the gear shift button literally just fell off today when i put my car in park. the silver button that goes into the side fell into the floor. it seemed more & more loose over the last few days, but i didn't think much of it. i should've. it's a cr-v. 2) for the last few months my passenger back seat door won't lock or unlock with my key fob or when i click the button. i have to manually push it. which means if all the doors aren't locked the car won't lock the other doors. my car is not secure when i'm leaving it parked.
On 3-11-19 at 6:14 pm i was driving with my wife on a parkway. weather was clear and sunny, 39 degrees. there were no cars in front of me. i had the cruise control set at 61 mph when suddenly my vehicle put the brakes on disengaged the cruise control and lane assist control . then a code flashed up saying 'auto high beam problem'. after a 15 minutes to reach my home i checked the high beams it was fine. in the last 4 weeks i have had code flash on the screen while i am driving saying system failure, for 5-10 minutes. *dt*jb *dt consumer stated this was the sixth time.*jb
Yesterday i got in my car to head home from work. when i turned it on, i got a number of systems alerts, including the engine, brakes, power steering and others. i was able to get the car home, but when i was going to take it the dealership, the car sputtered and seems to be losing power as if it would stall. this is the third time that i have gotten system alerts and taken the car to be repaired. the first time, the oil was changed and a software update performed. the second time, a software update was performed. this time, i checked the oil and it was over full and smelled of gas. the car is now at the dealership for them to determine the issue. i live in texas. the first time this happened, was during the summer. the last two times have been in winter.
While driving in cruise control, the brake light will come on and the vehicle will almost come to a complete stop, with no one in front of me. my wife and i were almost in an accident when this happened on i-75 at 65 mph. also, this brake light indicator will come on without being in cruise. this has happened over 6 times.
Electrical system goes on and flashes all warnings on the dashboard. car won't start consistently, and if left overnight, won't start at all, almost like a dead battery. when i take it to the dealer, the battery is fine. car is dangerous as it turns off while on the road.
If i stop using the cr-v for two days the battery goes dead and i have to recharge it. the original battery was replaced after the first year in the honda dealer. if i want to used the other car i need to turn on the cr-v every day so the battery does not loose charge.
