We have classified the 159 complaints from 2017 Honda CR-V about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Display flickers and you can't do anything on the display
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and the brake, power pressure, cruise control, and lane assist warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was turned off, restarted, and taken to vann york auto mall (422 eastchester dr, high point, nc 27262, 336-841-6200) for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred to contact to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the diagnosis information was not available. the failure mileage was 24,100. the vin was not provided.
Vehicle does not shut down when turned off. this causes a high parsitic draw on the battery which causes the vehicle not to start in a matter of hours. honda posted a service bulletin stating what the problem is and how to fix it..service bulletin 17-032. the service manager stated he never heard of it. then he went on to say even if there is a software update, honda will not alow him to do it unless absolutely necessary because of the labor charge to honda. my battery blew up releasing toxic gasses filling the exterior of the car which contain my wife and kids at the time. they gave me a new battery.
While driving, safety systems go offline. adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, collision mitigation braking system, and others all go offline at the same time. appears to happen at random. first visit to dealer, we were advised they did not see any codes and there was no malfunction at that time. next visit, all the systems were still offline from earlier in the day and they performed some software updates which reset everything. next day, safety systems went offline again. we took the vehicle back to the dealer where it is right now and they are advising that it is a fuel issue and gasoline is getting into the oil . no explanation how or why this is causing the safety systems to go offline and become inoperable. have contacted honda multiple times along they way, currently waiting on a case manager to call back.
These problems have been going on for the past year. multimedia information display occassionally changes brightness on its own. it also sometimes activates on screen buttons by itself. today (2/6/2019), while playing audio through the car's bluetooth system and using the gps, the display blanked out for 3 - 5 minutes. also, the bottom half of the tachometer display, viewed through the steering wheel, blanked out and showed a spinning wait cursor. after that wait time, the multimedia display turned black. then about 30 seconds later, it showed the honda symbol. indicating that is was booting. i had brought the vehicle to my dealer last friday for maintenance work and they had reset the multimedia display. it seems too soon for problems to occur yet again. all of these problems occurred while driving. the random brightness changes are quite dangerous at night time, when max brightness occurs suddenly. the random on screen button activations become dangerous distractions during driving. i have been bringing these problems to my dealer's attention for the past year, who said they only just received information from honda (in janurary 2019), saying that honda received information on display issues and are looking into it.
2017 honda crv parked in garage, when attempting to start engine, dash lights up warnings and sounds alarms on braking system, cruise control, lane assist system, battery, and many other areas. car would not start and goes dead with second attempt to start. dealership had car towed in to diagnose. dealership state that toll tag too close to sensors (even though tag has been on windshield for 18 months with no problem). toll tag scraped off windshield. six weeks later, car in garage and dash lights up with alarms and sounds with same alerts. car goes dead. dealership had car towed in to diagnose.
Central display flickers bright to dim and freezes. display is now stuck on hi brightness. brightness causes safety issue while driving at night. honda of america says it is a known issue but does not have a fix. has been 4 months and no resolution as of yet.
While driving on the highway, the vehicle started to stall and shake. the instrument panel went black, then the audio screen went black. the gas gauge light came on, then turned off on its own. the instrument panel lights came on, all of the warning indicators were on. the dealership stated that the fuel injectors needed replacing and that it would be covered under warranty. they also stated that the whole audio system would need to be replaced but that the part is on back order and would not be able to order until march 1, 2019.
The system produces false positives and triggers warnings when no obstructions are present, when cruise control is on highway speed fluctuates without any vehicles near by. the system causes numerous warning messages randomly. the screen goes black and i have to turn the car off and then on to fix the problems. car brakes without people assistance. all this problems happen a random times and while driving.
My car came to a complete stop once while i was driving in the middle of an intersection and once just on a straight road. this happened twice, and i went flying forward and all my stuff on the seat went flying. there was not a car in front of me. they said it must have been reading something to do this, and it's to protect a possible pedestrian. this is an accident waiting to happen . i called honda of joliet to put it in my record. another issue is the vehicle stability lights, the adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation, road departure mitigation, and a brake lights all flash stating there is a problem. these lights just come on while driving. this has happened three times . once it was snowing. the second and third time the weather was clear. the first time i cleared some of the 'driving aides' and the lights went off. i took it to honda of joliet on 1/25 and they aligned the radar. the lights came back on 1/28 /19 and they said they realigned it again. they had the car for 2 days. the original reason was the sensors are dirty, and in bad weather this can happen. they said a clump of snow could have caused this too. so this car is only good in good weather? the service person said they have had a lot of cars in for this same reason. another problem was i came out to find my windows down, my sunroof open and my back door open. car was stationary. didn't take it in for this and forgot to tell them when i dropped it off on 1/28/19.
January 20 2019 car was completely dead. took to dealership january 21. they replaced the battery, a/c unit, did a program update, changed the oil and drain plug. told us it was fixed. however, the car immediately gave me problems --more than before. i was actually trapped in my car and couldn't open the doors 3 times. while driving the car, the safety system continuously alerts blindspot activity, the message "some driver assist systems cannot operate" , theres a message that says "collision mitigation system disabled" that appears, the hazard lights go on intermittently at will. today, we took the car in for a tire problem and mentioned all these other message faults, the dealer checked the oil and it was too high (the "fix" was done just 10 days ago) and the dealer told us, "yes, but there's nothing more we can do, call honda." so, i have a $37,000 piece of junk i can't trust to take across town. ps we were coerced into purchasing the extended warranty -- what good is a warranty if the dealer admits he can't fix the problem?
One day as i was driving, all problem lights on my dashboard began to turn on, chime, and and giving messages such as "tire pressure monitoring poblem", brake system, break hold system , power steering, etc..." and my features such as cruise control and break hold became disabled. we had the spark plugs changed and the problem continued. we did an oil change and discovered that there was over 5 quarts of oil collected when only 3.5 had been pured in, also the oil was smelling like gasoline. we started researching and it seems that this is a problem with this car/model. mechanic diagnosed lower compression on cylinder #4 and kept getting a cylinder #4 error.
Battery failed to start (at all) on 01/09/19, and was difficult to jump start. vehicle (and the oem battery) had 13,167 miles at time of failure, and had been in service appr.17 months. no evidence of abuse. honda refused to reimburse for diagnosis & repair at independent shop.
My car is less than 39,000 miles and i had to change all four tires which were giving me issues since i purchased less than 2 years ago. january 3rd my car would not start. jan 4th and 5th again my car would not stop without a jump. i have had nothing but electrical problem, radio blinking and not coming on or brake system engaging without braking etc. since i have purchased. i have only taken to honda dealers only to be told issues not covered by warranty and no explanation why i need new tires and new batter with a car less than twp years and under 39,000 miles. there are many complaints regarding batteries and electrical problems and my 2017 car is among them.
My honda 2017 crv was parked all night.when i went out this morning all the windows and the sun roof were open.wy key fob was on a table by itself and my wife's. was in her purse.i was outside at midnight and all was ok.on the internet i found that i was not alone and honda will not acknowledge the problem.my seats and consul were very wet.this could lead to theft and a lot of damage.please contact honda as consumers complaints go unanswered. thank you.
The honda cr-v 2017 touring model has experienced several keyless remote transmitter error messages on the dashboard display. the last time this problem happened was on december 24, 2018 at around 5:00 pm and the engine would not stop running. with the vehicle in park i pushed the start/stop button repeatedly with my foot on and off the brake pedal. the only way i could get tne engine to stop running was to walk away from the vehicle with the keyless remote transmitter and have the passenger push the start/stop button. i took the vehicle into the honda dealer on december 26, 2018 and they said - "no problem found at this time". the vehicle was stationary the entire time of this incident.
Oil dilution problem causing misfires while driving and throwing all saftey related features to throw codes and not function, throws codes and misfires while driving.has been to dealer 3 times and not resolved.
Acc and lkas warning lights illuminated. took to dealership, they washed the car and said the problem was leaves blocking sensor. next time i started the car, got steady chime from dash telling me there was an acc problem. consistent issue. there were no accidents, damages and it was a clear, bright day in both cases.
Radio locks up and then indicator lights on dash flash - brake failure, vsa failure, tpms failure, ldw failure, acc failure, lkas failure, cmbs failure. had it at honda service two times and they reinstalled software and did a hard reboot. issue reared its head again dec 14, took to honda service with lights flashing for a computer read. service scheduled for dec 19 to look into issues and perform recall repair. check engine light has been on since i took it in dec 14. car seems to run fine even with indicator lights flashing. issue happened first time while on interstate going 70 mph. secong time on backroad going 45 mph.
The "infotainment" or navigation screen malfunctions and turns itself off. this results in loss heating and cooling controls as well as other important safety functions.
My car is having electrical issues with the honda sensing. braking on its own at random times at various rates of speed. the most serious on the highway at speed of about 75 mph. the car shut down and the computer systems had all kinds of codes of system failures. also now we are having an issue of oil dilution due to gasoline. my oil was changed a few days later still over the full line and fumes of gas evident. talking with honda dealership currently where purchased and honda corporate case was filed. so far they are down playing it in texas dispite numerous consumer complaints and commonality of issue being reported at the dealership level.
The problem that we are experiencing on and off for more than 1 year while driving the car is warning lights all coming up and disabling the key safety features: brake system failure, lane keeping assist problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation system problem, and adaptive cruise control problem. this happen at normal city driving, freeway driving, with cruise control on and/or with cruise control off. the car is still operational but with warning lights. when you turn off the car, and restart the issues may or may not go away. when it does go away, it will randomly occur again. this problem happen when we had the car for 3 day old after buying it brand new and took it back to dealer and they look at it and did a software install. but, it never corrected the problem. we have live with this issues for more than a year now and are now fed up. we are frustrate of the thought of bringing it to the dealer and having the same thing happen to us again.
Button to unlock the transmission shifter broke without warning. here is a thread of owner complaints: https://www.crvownersclub.com/forums/137-2017-present-official-specs-features-etc-gen-5/168802-gear-shift-button.html here is a general search from google which has links yo various pictures and videos of the issues: https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1c1gceu_enus821us821&ei=g__7w-gjhsqb5gk9wiqwaw&q=2017+cr-v+broken+shift+button&oq=2017+cr-v+broken+shift+button&gs_l=psy-ab.12...0.0..8480...0.0..0.0.0.......0......gws-wiz.gznhiho1pom
I bought this car april of 2017 and i already have a electrical problem after a month. we went for a vacation and as we went back, my car is not starting anymore. i reported this to perfection honda and they told me that my battery is in 100 percent ok. last thanksgiving (2018) it did the same thing. the biggest one is engine oil smells gas on it. i tried to report this to perfection honda, albuquerque new mexico but reasoned out that there are no recalls for this car. i'm not recommending crv ex and upper models to any consumer same with perfection honda for poor service quality.
User interface (ui) for radio operates inconsistently. began having issues within a few weeks of owning the vehicle. touchscreen repeatedly freezes, goes black, or the volume is unable to be controlled. frequently the volume will go all the way to the highest level alone or while you are trying to adjust it up/down. the only solution for all of the radio issues are to roll the windows down so you don't lose your hearing and pull the car over, shut the car off, & restart the car. this is startling when the volume goes all the way up and is a major safety concern. you cannot hear what's going on around you & are in a dangerous predicament in trying to get pulled over somewhere safe to restart your car. i began reporting the issue in september 2017 to my dealership and was told the problem was with apple. now honda states that it is a "known issue" but has provided no solution. i have numerous videos of these occurrences for documentation. additionally, my engine oil smells of gasoline. the dipstick reads high and the honda dealership has advised me to change the oil every 1,000 miles and to not drive short trips. the engine hesitated once while in traffic. the engine does not heat up at idle and during cold weather you cannot operate your window defroster. this causes safety issues because you can't see out the windows. the only solution is to ride with the windows down when it's cold in order to see. while driving the car down the interstate at approx. 20,000 miles i heard a pop. when i arrived at my destination, i saw that the gear shifter knob popped out. this rendered me unable to shift my car from drive to any other gear. honda seems to be aware of this issue, as the service tech and advisor both stated that this happens "all the time." dealership replaced knob. honda made a defective & dangerous product. they refuse to remedy the problems.
Battery drains out completely and car won't start.. just 18000 miles. 4 times in 3 days. first time i thought maybe i had not switched off something when i parked so it may have drained. had to call aaa. after it happened 3 more times in 3 days realized that there is some major issue. honda has a service bulletin 17-032 but to sure this applies. this being sunday will take it to dealership tomorrow. too many complaints regarding this issue on the internet.
Engine oil has a strong smell of fuel. vehicle was brought in to the dealer, dealer advised me that they needed to upgrade the system. the upgrade has not fix the problem and the vehicle still has a strong odor of fuel coming from the engine oil dipstick. everytime i would fill up with gas, the gas meter displays fewer and fewer mileage range on a full tank.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while driving various speeds, the contact heard an abnormal beeping noise emerging from the vehicle. in addition, the brightness control on the instrument cluster was blinking, but there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact called honda of the avenues (11333 philips hwy, jacksonville, fl 32256, 904-370-1300) where it was diagnosed that the brightness control unit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 09626590. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 15,000.
Vehicle was parked over night in the morning the battery was completely drained i left no lights on there was no reason for a drained battery on a new car. after jump starting the car it has now issues like a hard start as if the battery is dead my interior lights dimwhen at stop light the loss mitigation warming comes on but all my extras extra for the steering help are off ot feels as if it's going to die at a light and my mpg went from 25.9 to now 19.8 that's insane!! i am taking to honda dealer tomorrow this is a year old honda
Parasitic battery drain, vehicle battery drains after 2 days of non use
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while driving various speeds and when starting the vehicle, all of the instrument panel indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to billy wood honda (1909 w hillsboro st, el dorado, ar 71730, (870) 863-5400) where the computer was updated, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the same dealer where the contact was notified that the manufacturer updated the computer again. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred for a third time, but the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. also, while inspecting the oil, the contact noticed it was overfilled and smelled like fuel. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 9,300. *js
Alarm will go off randomly. clicking lock/unlock on the key fob does not turn the alarm off. inserting the key into the door was the only way to turn the alarm off. the message "keyless start system problem" was displayed on the dash when i entered the car. i turned my car on, but when trying to turn the car off, there were clicking noises, the dash flickered repeatedly, and the car would not turn off. it took about 15 minutes of clicking the push start/stop button to get the car to turn off. it was towed to honda (tow truck driver had trouble getting the car onto the bed because all of the safety braking features were randomly activating) and honda replaced some wiring and said i was good to. two days later the car wouldn't start. had it towed to honda again and they said it was a bad battery. they replaced the battery and sent me on my way. the next day the alarm went off again, same issue with not being able to turn it off, and the same keyless start system problem was on the dash. i started the car, then turned the car off, went into the house, and the alarm went off again 15 minutes later. i disconnected the battery and will take it back to honda tomorrow. note, when i popped the hood to disconnect the battery, the electricity turned back on in the car by itself. i now suspect the electricity is turning on by itself and after sitting idle for a while the alarm activates.
Vehicle was parked and would not start suddenly after being off and not on accessory mode. when vehicle was jump started and when vehicle restarted the dashboard read many errors among them, break system error, road departure mitigation system problem, vehicle stability assist problem. i have been the sole owner/driver of the vehicle and get it serviced at the dealership as advised.
On early oct 2017, automatic braking system applied (slammed) for no apparent reasons at 45 mph. no cars were in front and luckily none was behind. happened on mid day, clear and sunny day. there were several occasions that brake warning activated while no pending traffic. went to dealer to checkup and was told "never heard of such issues with this brake issues". it totally did not make sense that the adviser recommended turning off brake sensing feature!? on a separate issue, front adaptive shutter malfunction while was on the highway causing loss of power. system reset itself after pulling off the road shutoff and restart the engine. dealer said they were not able to replicate this issue and found no faulty problems.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda cr-v. while driving approximately 25 mph, the display screen message appeared indicating a security system failure and that the tailgate door was open. upon inspection, the contact discovered that the tailgate door was secured. next, the sensor erroneously indicated that the front driver side door was ajar. moments later, while driving, the collision avoidance system erroneously activated and the vehicle abruptly came to a complete stop although no other vehicles were in the vicinity. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer (dnc honda, 28 county rd, tenafly, nj 07670), but the failures could not be duplicated. according to the dealer, the manufacturer indicated that the failures were due to the cell phone being used inside the vehicle. as a result, the bluetooth was deactivated. the failure mileage was 2,600.
For the second time, after leaving the vehicle parked for 3-5 days the battery has been drained and unable to start the engine.
Car left in parking lot for four days. car would not crank or start. battery serviced by aaa, jump started successfully. no obvious clamps, wire, alternator problem. car evaluated at honda burlington dealer. no problems found. no cause for battery failure given. service clerk at dealership and aaa battery service person independently suggested that car should not be left unproven for more than a few days as battery failure has been found, without an obvious cause. evidently honda service bulletin # 17-032 addresses this issue but neither the general honda customer hotline nor the burlington mass dealership acknowledge this with my vehicle.
2017 honda cr-v. consumer writes in regards to defect with various computer systems. *ld the consumer stated while driving the vehicle lost adaptive cruise control, blind spot information, and information on the instrument panel below the miles per hour indicator. the vehicle's speed reduced. *js
While driving for over 3 hours on the interstate at 70mph all the idiot lights come on blinking and showing that all systems are off. stopping the car and shutting off the car and restarting all is restored to normal. this has happen 4 times. the dealer has not been able to duplicate this. i am to take a movie if it happens again. i won't be going that far until august returning in september. this has happened on this trip only.
I parked the car in the garage on 8/18/2018. i turned off engine and all electronic equipment. we went on vacation for 2 weeks. on 9/3/18 we returned and we could not start the car. the battery was dead as it was completely drained. i researched on crv forum and there seems to be a knowing problem with battery slow drainage due to software and/or electrical components
Car has been in motion and stationary when all dash lights come on, no systems work according to the dashboard. when dash lights with every single warning light comes on while driving, all power and acceleration is lost. this happened to me in an intersection the other day and luckily the crv was able to coast to the side of the road where the crv was unable to accelerate again until i turned the car off and back on. i have read numerous blogs with others having this issue. vtm-4 pops up on the radio screen as a problem. honda claims to have fixed this issue on the 2019 models yet no recall on 2017 and 2018 models? this loss of power and control of the vehicle is especially scary since i have 2 young kids that right with me daily. cruise control won't work, remote start hasn't worked since this issue started around 60-70k miles. honda needs to fix this major problem!
I was driving home 20 mile per hour .. i put my left turn signal on cuz i was gonna turn left all he warring sign pop up and i push my car break and my car didn't stop and then i put gear on park and my car still moving ... and then i push power off and my car stop on the side road ... i so scare ... and i waiting about 2 minute and push power on and drive safe home ... While my car was parked overnight, the front window went down and the clock rolled back 30minutes
Battery went totally dead. drove 1.5 hr .away from home vehicle sat for 7 hr. returned to the car and dead. had to be jumped by secuirty. drove home started it a few times and the next day and it was fine. i read where there is a tsb 17-032. software bug. drove to work, we'll see if it starts to get home. going to dealership in the morning. no documentation, security guard had me fill out a paper for their records
Honda sensing issue - when driving in normal conditions, the vehicle would apply brake by itself as if a frontal collision is expected even if there were no other vehicle in-front.
After jumping the battery - when starting the vehicle with foot on the brake, pedal jerks momentarily before starting the engine. the vehicle was in the garage with dead battery after 2 days of not being used.
The infotainment display will randomly turn off while driving. audio continues to play without display. pressing the home button sometimes resolve the issue, but sometime it requires to have the vehicle completely turned-off to get the display back.
Foward collision avoidance - when driving in normal condition, the vehicle will abruptly apply brake by itself activating the forward collision avoidance system. the "brake" warning comes-up in the driver's dashboard to provide a visual warning. this happens even if there were no vehicle in-front and anticipated frontal collision. this abrupt and random braking can cause a rear-end collision.
All system safety lights and warnings are showing
For the third time, since buying the car new, all the warning lights came on, and all safety systems shut down. this time power steering was also lost which could've caused a crash. i believe this is due to rodent damage again. honda sells rodent tape and i've used it but can't tell where the rodents will eat. i belive this is due to the soy-based insulation and other parts in the car as none of my other vehicles have ever had this issue and i live in a rural environment. vehicle was not being driven'was temporarily parked outside when this happened.
