We have classified the 241 complaints from 2013 Honda Accord about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
While parking, but stopped, the car sped out of control. foot brake and hand brake failed to stop the speeding car. it leaped over a curb and into a retention pond. the doors refused to unlock. driver and passenger escaped thru windows and onto the roof. previously, the unattended car had locked itself and windows and sunroof had opened on several occasions the two fobs were on cup hooks in the house. honda shows no interest.
***happens when vehicle is parked and turned off*** this car has a "feature" that is not disclosed to customers upon purchase which can lead to a dangerous condition for property and the interior of the vehicle. if the key fob is placed in a pocket with keys (as everyone does), there is a combination of inadvertent button presses (specifically unlock / unlock / unlock) which causes all of the windows and the sunroof to open. this has lead to my car being soaked by having all the windows open during a rainstorm while i was inside my office (with the vehicle parked right outside - the key fob works from quite a far distance). it has also lead to my belongings being compromised due to all of the windows opening when i parked in the city and was sitting in a building with the keys in my pocket, among other times. when i returned to the selling dealer i was told that they were unaware of this feature and i should read the manual. it is not detailed in the manual and there is no way to disable it.
Hesitation when moving forward. it bumps three to four times on low speeds.
For the past year the car has failed to start intermittently. the only way i've found to get it started is to use an external battery jump. even then that also fails about a third of the time, though waiting some time enables the jump to work. the dealer says it is "probably" the starter and wants $1,000 to fix it. the problem began at about 40,000 miles and the starter should not fail at that age.
Intermittent problems with starting engine. dash lights come on, but starter does not engage. so far, has started after sometimes extensive operation of the shift lever. has happened multiple times over the past year.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start upon turning the key in the ignition. the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. the manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to have the failure diagnosed by a dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while driving approximately 10 mph, the power steering malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. as a result, the vehicle crashed into a tree. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the contact indicated that the failure previously occurred after the battery was recharged. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an electrical short in the dome light. the dome light was removed. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 55,000.
When driving all of a sudden power steering fails all the lights on the dashboard flash on and off and all the electrical's shut off including heat/ac. everything goes back to normal after a few seconds. this happens randomly and at various speeds. *tr
My 2013 honda accord touring (29,262 miles) will not crank nor start. there has been no previous problems/warnings, just wouldn't start one morning. it's parked in my garage. i put a new battery in the key fob although the other one was working to see if that was the problem. when i press it the car unlocks as normal. the interior & exterior lights comes on and the directions of how to start the car still show. the car is in park, i put my foot on the brakes & press the start/stop button. there is a slight beeping sound and a few lights showing in the dash, but it won't start. when i press the button again the accessory mode comes on as normal. the radio plays, my phone connects, the navigation system works, lights works fine, etc. when i press it once to turn it off, all the lights in the dash light up, the ac comes on, & all the pre-programmed warning lights come on one by one with a beep. finally i press it one final time to turn it off. so everything works fine, it just won't start. this leads me to conclude that the starter has gone out like multiple complaints i've read. i'm currently waiting for the dealer to verify that. after only 3 years & 29,000 miles, i should not be having these problems. and i definitely should have to pay $700-$800 which is estimated starter replacement cost.
The starter in my 2013 honda accord coupe failed after only 3 years and 55,000 miles. the car would not start when i pressed the push to start button and would finally turn on after numerous attempts. this went on for 3 weeks until the car would no longer start.
The key turns over but engine does not crank
I am the 1st owner of my accord.the issue occurs with the car being stationary and parked in a driveway, parking lot or on a street. with in the last two weeks i started having problems with starting my car. i would turn the key the dash and all associated parts would light up but the engine would not start. the battery was fine. it would take 3 turns of the key to get it started. took it to the dealership today 8/17/16 and they diagnosed it with a bad starter. the cost of the repair is $900-$1000. the car has 35000 and i have owned it for 3 years.
Push start failure my car had 50000 miles on it when it started having trouble with the push start button. it did it once a week sometimes and eventually happened every time i tried to start the car. i took it to a mechanic and they were unable to pin point the problem. the starter checked out ok but since they could not find any other problem, they replaced the starter and kept the original incase i continued to have the problem they could return the original and give me my money back. it's been two weeks and so far i havent had the problem anymore. only time will tell.
Go to start my car and lights and ac work fine. the engine does not want to turn over and takes several attempts sometimes and other times it starts right off. the battery is only two months old and the dealer said it was the starter which is going to cost me $700!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the. dealer said that this is way too early for a starter to go out on a 3 year old car with 550 miles on it. i have researched this and have found there are hundreds of people across the u.s. having this same exact issue. this needs the upmost immediate attention as this is a very costly and detrimental issue and some of us have no money to fix this!!! this must be dealt with now before lawsuits start happening!
While driving 7/15/16 the electric steering warning indicator light went on, and the steering wheel became impossible to turn or steer until it finally ceased to turn (total time for complete loss of steering capability was less than 1 min.). i was driving on a 4-lane city street traveling at about 45mph. i turned the vehicle off for about 3 mins. and then restarted it. the indicator light was off and the steering worked fine. i immediately drove to a honda dealership who told me the car is probably fine as it had a software update installed 9 mos. ago and if it happens again i should bring the car in for replacing the steering box. i requested a note be made in my car repair history. they did not provide me with any paperwork.
My 2013 honda accord ex-l has been having intermittent starting problems (push button start). this starting happening approximately three weeks ago. yesterday, july 14, 2016, the car would not start at all. this is not a car battery issue because all electrical components are working, i.e. radio, dash lights, horn etc. this also is not a key fob battery issue because the key fob still locks and unlocks the door. car was taken to the honda dealership to have problem diagnosed and repaired. this car is still under the original manufacturer's warranty, car is less than 3 years old and has a little over 32,000 miles.
2nd time having the fcw failed issue. dash lights up like a christmas tree. traction and sluggish response to foot on pedal. makes me nervous to drive. cost me a ton to fix the first time, i'm sure they will charge me again. reading online i am not alone. this is extremely dangerous.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that the engine failed to start and the navigational system failed intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition electrical system caused the battery to drain. the navigational electrical system failed to operate due to battery failure. the dealer replaced the battery and the starter assembly; however, the failure was not corrected. the vehicle failed to start and the navigational system continued to fail. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 52,031.
Starter motor had progressive premature failure. began having problems with car not starting about a month ago. loud click, all dash lights would come on, but no crank or start. eventually would not re-start and left car stranded. car started with jumper cables. dealer diagnosed starter failure. vehicle is 2-1/2 years old with 49,845 miles. dealer did not offer warranty repair. cost for replacement was $724.00.
I went to crank my car, which was perfectly fine yesferday , and it wont turn over and there are several lights on and clicking and blinking. i thought it might be the battery and tried to jump it off and nothing changed. a symbol that looks like a steering wheel and exclamation point, low tire light, brake light, and skid control symbols were all on.
Push button start is acting up. at times when you push button to start the car it only clicks, after a few tries the car will start. i have seen several complaints on this. honda has admitted to an issue with the v6 model but not the v4 model that is having the same issue
My 2013 accord sport has been intermittently starting for months when stationary. i changed the battery to a stronger cranking one and it did not fix it although now it will start eventually after several tries. i have tested the alternator and it passed. next is the starter but honda changed its location and placed it under the motor. i submitted links from a honda forum to this website documenting many others having the same issue whether they drive lx, ex, or sport. cvt manual it doesn't seem to matter. i have not replaced the starter and think it should be recalled if that's the issue. there are youtube videos also popping up with 2013 accords not starting.
This issue stared last week i didn't think too much on this but as the days goes on it take longer for me to start my car and me day i have to stop at lease 2 to 4 times to get the car to start. as i continue to search online to see what was the issue i am seeing more and more of this problem of what i am having. my car has been parked and there is no wires connected to the car to drain the battery, i have change both my car battery in my key battery already. this is very annoying i've been using honda for many years now and i never had this problem. with my other pass honda i would have to turn the key.
I had to tow my car home today. it wouldn't start. i have had trouble with it in the past weeks now but it would start eventually. but not this time. i might lose my job because of this car failure. weither it was stationary yes but could of been blocking traffic.
2013 accord sport is starting to have a starting problem. sometimes engine does not turn over when first turning the key. and from what i have read on this site it sounds like it is progressively going to get to the point of having to replace the starter. not happy. i was hoping on having a reliable car when i bought this car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was towed to a local dealer (coral springs honda, located at 9400 w atlantic blvd coral springs, fl 33071) where it was diagnosed that the battery, clamp, and cable needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 04760408. the failure mileage was 39,080.
Vehicle was stationary and in park. vehicle intermittently will not start. when you put your foot on the brake pedal you hear a "click" and then push the "start" ignition button, the car does not crank, but the electrical instruments in the car cabin come on. replaced batter and still have the same problem. takes multiple attempts before vehicle will finally start. vehicle started doing this at about the 33 month of ownership (i purchased it brand new). vehicle had approximately 58,000 miles on it when it started having this problem. vehicle continues to intermittently not start. honda dealership can not find any faults or codes. dealership is unable to and un willing to troubleshoot until they can detect a code/fault or observe problem.
My 2013 accord is having problems with the push start button. three separate times in one week our car had trouble starting. it would make a sound of hesitation before starting for 3-5 seconds. we had the battery replaced this past winter. we took the car to our local honda dealer for a check on the electrical and starting systems. they could not find anything wrong. we might have to wait for the car to not start in order for honda to find out what is wrong.
The starter in the car is not starting until 3rd attempt to start or not starting at all. we have had to wait and try again minutes later then on the third attempt it starts, the battery has been replaced and the connections to the battery are good. this has been happening for about 3 weeks now.
Keyless fob has two times opened all four windows and sun roof while in my pants pocket a couple of inches. the last time on april 11, 2016 it rained two inches and the car was left in the rain. the following morning the car would not start . the lights on the dash were flickering like crazy. you can not tell the sun roof is open because the sliding cover is closed. i think honda should remove this feature that allows you to open the sunroof from pressing a button from your fob. this cost me a lot of money and i didn't even know the sun roof was left open.
My family and i were stranded due to our 2013 honda accord not starting. we just came out of the movies and the car was stationary in the parking lot. i turned the key and it would just click. i had to pay for towing and over $800 to have the starter replaced at the honda dealer. it would have been more, but i called another dealer and they price matched the starter. i drive a lot of mile to work so i have over 60k miles in 2 years. after doing a little research i found that this problem is happening to a lot of people. the problem can be seen on forums and youtube videos. this problem seems to affects new cars, base models, push buttons, v6's etc. i think the starter should be recalled because many people are being forced to replace starters that the dealer seemed to know was bad.
In november 2015 i parked my car in the driveway. went out an hour later and it wouldn't start. jumped the car and it drove fine. in janary 2016 i pulled up to get gas. after fueling the car wouldn't start. had to push my car out of the way and have someone jump it again. had battery tested at two different shops and it is fine. came home from work tonight april 1, 2016. went to leave two hours later and it won't start again.
Car won't start, about a month ago i bought a 2013 honda accord exl v6, it worked fine for about a week, but soon after that i started experiencing starting problems. i have taken it to the mechanic many times, i have had the electrical system checked, replaced starter, the battery etc. the problem still persists, after doing much research i have learned that this is a problem that is very wide spread, there are several you tube videos, and posts of frustrated owners unable to start their cars constantly having to replace the started in most cases. every car from 2013-2016 is suffering from this problem, of being unable to start, as a college student i don't have that much money to constantly fix it as it happens. this was supposed to be a reliable car, to replace my old car which was developing major problems, but at least the car started every time. please, address this issue with urgency many people depend on these vehicles, to get to work school etc.
Intermittent issues with the car not starting. once you stick the key in the ingnition and turn the key the car will not start. i have full power to all the electronic in the car but the car will not start. i have to turn the key multiple times for the car to start. the car only has 40,000 miles on it and i have replaced the battery but the problem persist
I parked my car in our home garage after driving 15-20 miles. an hour later, when i tried to take the car out, at ignition it just refused to start. i got many dashboard chattering indicators on but no engine cranking. tried couple of times but same results. checked head lights and found them bright and ok indicating no possible battery issue. then i jump started from our other car parked next to it. it started almost immediately. but the dashboard indicators remained 'on'. i used vehicle setting menu and selected factory default reset. but the indicators remained 'on'. i took the car for a short drive. as soon as i drove some 15-20 feet, the indicators went off. i drove for some time and tried to stop the engine and restart it couple times without any problems. in my case, i was fortunate to have this happened at home garage and not middle of the road. but when i tried to research online about this problem, i found many such similar complaints and some of them were indicating possible 'bad' starter issue which required $800-1000 for the replacement and repairs. my car is around 18 months old with clean records of regular maintenance. the car has logged around 32,400 miles and maintained with care. as a concerned owner, after reading those online complaints and reports, i thought of sharing my issue here and record it too. i see there are enough similar complaints to arrive at there could be a faulty component (may be starter or something else, i am not an expert) which might need attention and possible recall repairs by the manufacturer
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. approximately three months after the contact purchased the vehicle, it started to stall. on several occasions, after the vehicle stalled, the contact would have to jumpstart the vehicle. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v418000 (electrical system). the vehicle was taken to brickell honda (690 sw 8th st, miami, fl 33130, (305) 856-3000) where the battery sensor was replaced. the contact was unsure if the battery sensor was replaced or if adhesive was applied to the battery case to prevent water intrusion. the contact stated that the failure recurred and the battery had to be recharged three times after the recall repair was completed. the contact stated that all of the warning indicators illuminated on and off. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle was currently being diagnosed by an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 13,000.
A few months ago, my 2013 honda accord sport with 42k miles became hesitant to start. a turn of the key and i just heard clicks , after 3-5 tries it usually started on up. the problem progressed, yet i continued to "make due", i started putting the car in neutral to start it, and even had to be jumped off a few times. eventually in early february my battery went bad, and i purchased a new one. on march 12,2016 my car refused to start. i had to have it towed to the dealership i purchased the car from - in 2013 with 18 miles on it...on 3/14/16 i was just informed that my starter is bad. to replace the starter it will be $850....not including the diagnostic fee of $110 and the towing cost of $80, all because this doesn't fall under the 3/36k warranty that is standard with honda. seems like a ridiculous price to pay, especially after seeing the other complaint on this site of other honda owners with the same issue. i personally feel this should be a recall on hondas part. 2013 was the first year they made the honda accord sport edition ( i was told at the dealership), obviously something went awry at the factory. when i called the dealership to explain my problem, i gave the year, make, and model of my car. the technician that answered the phone replied with "oh, yes ma'am, i just spoke with you 10 minutes agoi?" it was the first time i had called. that tells me there are other 2013 honda accord sport owners experiencing the same problem. make it right honda!!
2013 accord sport is starting to have a starting problem. sometimes engine does not turn over when first turning the key. and from what i have read on this site it sounds like it is progressively going to get to the point of having to replace the starter. not happy. i was hoping on having a reliable car when i bought this car however i have had multiple issues two being major but thank god it was under warranty. one being transmission replacement at around 8,000 miles and the timing belt/tensioner issues.
Serious engine vibration when cold, began around 30,000 miles. recently, computer generated mpg numbers fluctuate wildly for same trip. example, today 10 mile trip, 23.3 mpg going 33.3 mpg returning. inaccurate oil life reminder, showing 70% left after 7,000 mi. used to show 20% after 5,000 when i have oil changed. dealer says all normal, call honda ifi have a problem. radio on off problems since new. all occur regardless of vehicle location or moving or not.
I have honda accord white ex-l since 11/10/2012 with current mileage of 16,300. 1. recently, i went to my mechanic to have air pressure checked on my car, since i was going for a long trip. while, air pressure was being checked, i left the car on in accessory mode for about 3 minutes. when i went on to turn the car on, it wouldn't turn on. dash board lights, flickered at every attempt, when i tried turning on the car. my mechanic checked the battery, he said, battery is dead. i had the battery replaced. once battery was replaced, mechanic checked alternator. he stated, alternator is not working properly. i told him, i will take the car to honda dealer. this reminded me, that same thing happened on 7/4/2014, where i had left the hazard lights on and radio on at the same time in power mode for about 5 minutes. i called honda care, 1st driver, couldn't jump start my car. 2nd driver came, and he was able to jump start my car. he stated battery was fine at that time. however, i just realized, my driver side window was taking lot longer to open and close than it should. with new battery, i will bring car to dealer to have the car checked. also, since above instances, i turn off my headlights from auto mode, and also interior lights from dimming or turning off automatically to save battery from draining. 2. since i bought the car in november 2013, i have noticed that, i can hear fuel moving in the fuel tank. in my old 2000 honda accord, i never heard such a thing. 3. since 2012, i have gotten alignment done 3 times, but i still feel the vibration through out my car, and car feels like wobbling in the front. 4. not happy with mpg. in city, i get 9 to 11 mpg. highway, it is just about 32 to 35 mpg as advertised and tested. 5. sometimes, when putting on the driver side seat belt, it gets stuck. i have to retract it and than i am able to secure it in seat belt clip.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while the vehicle was parked, the battery failed. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v418000 (electrical system). the local dealer (kens harvey dublin honda, 6300 dublin blvd, dublin, ca 94568) was contacted and stated that the parts were not available. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the contact received the notification for the parts to become available. the failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Car will not start in the mornings: within a months 3 times. engine check light constantly lighting up. back and butt pain including legs falling asleep
I would like to make a complaint about a serious safety concern that happened to me recently while driving my honda accord 2013 ,luckily i was able to avoid an accident.i am afraid to drive my car for fear for my life.i was driving in pennsylvania on rt 33 south traveling at about 65 mph when my steering wheel locked.i had to lean into the steering wheel with all my body weight to try to get it to turn but it was locked .i was able to stop the car and shut it off.after a few minutes i started it back up and it returned to normal,i was lucky that part of the road i was driving on was straight and curve or mountain section like most of pennsylvania.i am afraid that this will happen against and i won't be so lucky.please investigate my vehicle and work with honda to get this fixed so no one has to die. it more than this ,i been having problems with the radio, sunroof, kieys alarm go on went i was driving .
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new battery. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
It so far has happened to me twice that i need to jump-start the car. there probably has some electrical leakage issues or something related to it. the first time it was more than a year ago that when i came earlier to a doctor appointment waiting for the clinic to open, i turned off the car and left the cd player on. but it only played for about half an hour or so it turned off automatically due to the battery power has already been depleted and the card could not start at all that i had to call aaa after the doctor appointment to jump-start for me. i thought at that time it was due to the cd player took too much power so i did not complain about it. but the second time it was a few weeks ago on sunday, which give me the concerns that there must be some electrical leakage on my car. after parking for the church meeting and turned off the car, both my wife and i decided to open the window a little bit to let the air flows in the hot weather since we parked under a covered parking and would not worry about possible rainfall. so before we open the doors, we opened both front windows a very little bit and left for the meetings. then about 3.5-4 hours later when it was time to go home, we found out the car would not start, and we had to ask for help to jump-start it again. this time it gave a definite guess that there must be some electrical leakage in the car. i also complained in early june of this year about the steering wheel lock issue. i received a mail from honda to fix it, but when i call the dealers, none of them even offer loaner cars for such recall and manufacture failure repairs. honda is bad for things like this. i don't know whether i should purchase honda again in the future. i never complained once for my toyota for years. even they schedule for manufacture recalls, which i never encounter myself, i did not have to worry about the loaner car.
2013 started having intermittent starting problems and i took it to the dealer where i bought the car and was told nothing wrong. i went to another dealer twice because the couldn't replicate the issue but on the 2nd time right before the warranty expire they were able to reproduce it and replaced the starter. fast forward in less than 2000 miles and less than 1 year, i'm having the starting problems. there is no way that i should having these issues, i haven't taken the car in to diagnose the intermittent starting issues yet, but if the is bad again. i wish they could figure out if the starters are bad or what's causing the starter to fail prematurely
When i started my car today i got a blinking light on the dash that looked like a battery. i looked it up in the owner's manual and it said "battery not charging" and to "contact the dealer immediately for repairs". i'll call them tomorrow. about a month ago, my car wouldn't start. i had to get it jumped and later took it in. they replaced an under dash relay. my car has been ok otherwise.
Electronic power steering system has failed for the 5th time in the last month. eps light illuminates on dashboard, total loss of steering control. vehicle is not safe to drive. was originally cleared by turning the car on and off, but now fails immediately upon starting vehicle. dealership quoted $1,700 repair - this should be a recall.
So this has now happened 3 times in the last few months, once about a month ago and twice last week (after having the car dropped off to fix the brake tsb that causes a squeak on turns). i will be driving down the road from aggressive to normal driving and all of a sudden i look at my dash only to see all the warning lights on. once this happens you can see the mpg indicator has a delay, a change in behavior of the cars controls, ldw switch no longer functions, and ldw and fcw stop working. the car continues to drive but you can tell all electronics are experiencing a delay or issue with the exception of the navi and radio. some of the lights go away and come back as you drive, and after turning the car on and off a few times all lights turn off with the exception of fcw and ldw with the "fcw system failure" message which remain, that goes away after a few hours.
