Car has been with mechanics for day 3 now they thought the problem was at 1st timing belt went to replaced it found out it was not that issue thought it was a sensor was not that as well now told by honda that it is camshaft, i've always maintained my vehicles and oil changes only a 150000 miles on my vehicle. this is extremely stressful i just bought the car from dean honda in 2017
Recenly purchaced this 09accord ex coupe automatic 5speed 4 cylinder from a used dealership with no warrenty. 3 or 4 days lateri noticed a brief but loud rattle from the engine compartment only on cold start up. i have researched this and there are thousands of posts on this issue and i definetly can be a very serious safty issue if the engine becomes damaged whild driving with this issue with the vtc actuator. i shouldnt have to pay for this repair as there is a tsb on the issue that clearly stares it as a defect.
The vehicle stationary when starting makes loud noise caused by the vtc actuator is the defaulted part which can cause the engine to malfunction.
Engine oil consumption is more and causing burning of engine oil very frequently. this is causing rattling noise when accelarating and would cause more damage to engine and can be hazardous if driving on highway.
2009 honda accord. consumer writes in regards to vehicle misfiring and lights illuminated on dash. *ld *tr
Vtc actuator is bad and requires replacing along with piston rings, according to the dealer. the cost is $2400.00. while i know there will be things that happen to aging vehicles, this is an issue for a very large number of 2008-2013 hondas.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. while driving various speeds, the vehicle misfired and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to inver grove honda (4605 s robert trail, inver grove heights, mn 55077, (651) 306-8600) where it was diagnosed that there was an oil fouled spark plug failure and the spark plugs needed replacement. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure and no failure code was found. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 56,232.
Oil consumption in excessive amount.
Unintended acceleration. has occurred 6 times since march 2018. no coloration with ambient temperature, weather conditions or speed. symptom: driving & braking hard to slow down, place into neutral and engine revs up to 5k rpm. restart car after about 10 seconds and engine runs fine, if sooner engine revs back to about 5k rpm. taken to shop - no problem found. has only happened at low speeds coming to a stop. was traveling in a strait path 4 times, twice when turning into a parking spot. note: i travel back roads mostly. car has over 110,000 miles.
Ocean honda is where i take my honda for service. the check engine light had been coming on over a year or so. i was told my car is using too much oil and needed pistons, rings and valve repair. that cost almost $6000.00. from research i discovered that this is a problem with this engine generation. the car was in motion when the check engine light came on. i was told by other mechanics that i should have gotten a new engine, it would have been less expensive. i found information that the nhtsa issued a notice to add years to the warranty which would cover my situation. as of the repair i had owned the car for 6 years. i need the information on tsb a12-087.
My engine started knocking due to excessive oil consumption, even tho i changed my oil on time every time. there was a lawsuit in 2013, but honda said i didn't qualify to get my engine replaced free of charge because it was vin # specific and state specific. which is crap. i will never buy another honda. quality has went way down..
The vtc valve does not give the proper oil pressure resulting in loud noises and rattles. oil pressures is an important component of safe engine operation. from our research numerous hondas have this problem and honda is not taking responsibility for it.
Loud grinding noise coming from engine when starting. honda has acknowledged faulty actuator but refuses to issue a recall to pay for repair.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving between 65-80 mph, shuddered and lost motive power with the engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was powered off and was restarted however, the vehicle failed to operate as intended. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that cylinder number 3 misfired and needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the spark plug was replaced every two to three months. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. the failure mileage was approximately 91,000.
Faulty vtc actuator - this is a known ongoing problem with honda cars but no recall has been issued. $600-$700 to get replaced
Check engine light flashing and engine running rough
Excessive oil consumption, causing spark plug malfunction
The engine won't start the starter motor sounds like it is spinning faster than normal, but the engine does not start up and run.
Takata recall, excessive oil consumption, vtc actuator loud grinding on start up cold or warming
Honda accord 2009 - currently 62k miles. engine rattles on start up and also on acceleration. contacted honda dealership about the sporadic flashing oil light and rattling noise. dealership confirmed no leaking oil, but there was oil consumption. now involved with a oil consumption test. dealership couldn't replicate the rattling noise. we never received the notice from honda on the service bulletin about oil consumption. currently 1k miles into the consumption test and we are halfway to the lower mark on the dipstick. updated the dealership of the status and was told not to bring it back until it was at the lower mark on the dipstick. car continues to have the rattling noise, which now the dealership is advising us that is a separate issue. currently still covered under the extended warranty for this issue, but a test has to be completed before the issue is resolved. extended warranty should have taken affect without any testing, since this is a known issue and needs to be dealt with immediately instead of waiting around until someone gets injured or more damage is done to the car. this needs to be fixed for every car that was listed in that bulletin.
We have found that are 2009 honda accord has a parasitic draw we have to pull fuses so the battery does not go dead within hours. have tried new batteries, charge batteries. through our own research people are calling this problem a parasitic draw from the battery and its a matter of tracing wires down and pulling fuses. and if you want to use car without running battery down my husband has pulled a fuse or two but this disables several things radio, some dashboard functions. which if it keeps going could be problematic on the function of the honda maybe affecting lights eventually or other safety features. so would like to see how many other people are experiencing this problem and how bad it can get and how it can be fixed. some people were disconnecting wires to remedy the problem and don't want to do that. when we bought car it had to be jump started. so the problem has only increased as time has passed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. while the vehicle was undergoing routine maintenance, the contact informed the mechanic of a ticking noise coming from the engine. the contact was informed that the engine oil was low, but there were no oil warning indicators illuminated. the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
I have a 2009 honda accord lx-p (4 cylinder, 2.4 l). it consumes excessive engine oil. i did a oil consumption test ( had almost 107k miles on the car) at a honda service center. result said the car consumed 1 quarter of oil for every 1000 miles (i never see any warning light when oil gets this low.) honda service center, after taking about a month, said the vehicle meets the requirement and therefor don't qualify for repair. so looks like i will have to check the oil level every week or so, and also refill oil at every 1000 miles instead of standard 3000 miles.
The car has excessive oil consumption (0.75 q per 1000 miles) based on a recent oil consumption test. every 2100 miles or so the low oil warning light lit. honda refuses to repair.
While driving at about 55 mph on route i-287 in morristown, nj, the car began to shake badly and the engine made a loud rumbling noise. i got the car to my local service station in morristown, where my mechanic told me that one of my spark plugs had failed to function, having been badly oil fouled. he replaced the spark plug and said the computer scanner showed code p0303 misfire cylinder #3. he also noted that honda has a service campaign for piston ring replacement initiated in 2013 to correct the problem. i brought the car to honda on monday, february 13. they replaced 3 of the 4 spark plugs in question (1 having already been replaced) and updated the car's computer program, calling that step one in solving the problem. the honda service manager explained that honda's protocol for this is to update the software and replace spark plugs and then wait to see if it happens again. (i later confirmed this protocol by phone with honda america.) lacking that, honda will not reimburse the dealership if they do the repair, but this fix seems to work about half the time. when the service campaign was initiated in 2013, i was not notified. clearly, honda recognized that there was a problem of oil leaking into the cylinders but did not issue a recall, as i believe they should have. in my case, my engine failed while i was driving at high speed on a major highway. this is not something i would like to happen again, but my local mechanic says it definitely will happen again, because honda did not fix the problem. replacing spark plugs is no more than a band aid. i'm left with a serious and expensive problem, and honda's intention is to skirt the real issue by risking my safety in order to avoid accountability.
Excessive oil consumption and grinding noise in the engine
Honda knows all about their 6 cyl engines burning through oil but does nothing about it. my car started burning and now leaking oil badly before it hit 100,000 miles but i am now looking at a large repair bill as my car isn't on "the list". not sure how it couldn't be as articles cite 6 cyl accords between the years 2008 and 2012. mine is a 6 cyl accord, 2009: how is that not on the list?
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. while driving unknown speeds, the passenger side turn signal lever failed to remain in position. additionally, the vehicle was burning oil excessively without warning. the contact called a local dealer (mcgrath city honda, 6720 w grand ave chicago il, 60707) and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 72,000.
My engine is consuming more oil than it should. i recently noticed this and have done my research and it turns out to be a common random defects with honda accords. i am worried that the engine might one day catch on fire or even fail while i am driving. i have gotten a letter from honda stating that they believe that there is something wrong with the gas bump but they were wrong. the procedure to fix this may cost me a lot of money but i am not responsible for this damage. it effects my safety and i am not willing to risk that. *tr
I hear the rattle noise when cold start engine only 87,000 miles i read the bulletin service they said that noise from defective vtc actuator that valve is control timing to advance and retart depend on engine speed to help control emission to help the environment and less pollution
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. the contact stated that the engine rattled while attempting to start the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing, but the details could not be provided. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. while stationary, the vehicle burned oil rapidly in the engine. the contact stated that the vehicle consumed more than a quart of oil within only 700 miles. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.
Excessive oil consumption
Engine rattles at cold start-up - service bulletin 09-010 symptom - at cold start-up, the engine rattles loudly for about 2 seconds. cause - the variable valve timing control (vtc) actuator is defective
7/2016 my oil light came on and i went to my mechanic and they said my oil stick was dry and they ended up doing lots of work; maintenance mostly and perhaps it would take care of the oil loss. they did not find a leak. 9/19/2016 my engine had problems starting; went to firestone to get a new battery and i told them no other maintenance as i have a mechanic. they installed my battery and told me my oil stick was dry and i had 50% oil noted on my dash board. went to my mechanic on 9/21/2016 and they said my oil stick was dry again. my mechanic researched and found there was a recall on this issue; therefore am reporting it.
High engine oil consumption. 4 cyl engine burns 2.5 quarts of oil every 1600 miles. heavy soot residue on tailpipe, and engine pinging while driving uphill with normal oil level. no visible oil leaks. dealer claims that 1 quart every 1000 miles is normal consumption. currently performing engine oil consumption test and will follow up in 1000 miles. *tr
Excessive oil consumption: car is burning about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles.
I was getting ready to leave for work one morning and i noticed when i cranked the car up that it made a knocking noise for about 2 seconds and quit. i done a lot of research a found that a lot of the same cars have had the same problem. i found out that it was the vtc actuator. it only does this when it is cool. if it has been cranked up it will not do it.
Vtc actuator is failing causing a 2 second delay when starting please advise!
My 2009 honda accord was purchased by our local honda dealer off the lot brand new. vehicle has always a good vehicle and no serious problems. it was in a minor crash and had some of the frame readjusted. recently, (within 6 months) i have noticed the vehicle consuming more oil than usual. i followed up with honda to see what i could do with the extended warranty notice i received in the mail regarding the vehicle. the extended warranty stated that the piston rings may be sticking more than usual and the vehicle could be consuming more oil than normal. the warranty stated it was good for up to 8 years from the purchase or 125,000 miles, whichever came first. at the time the honda was at 134,000 miles. honda told me to take it to my local honda dealer and ask how to start the process on the piston rings. the local dealer stated they needed to start with an oil consumption test with an oil change, then i would have to come back after 1,000 miles for them to track the oil. i brought the vehicle in and was dealt with more bad news. the local dealer stated that i could not start the oil consumption test until i fixed two other oil leaks the vehicle currently has. i was told the vehicle has a valve gasket leak which also needed a valve adjustment as well as a crank seal leak. the local dealer quoted me that the valve gasket would cost $225, the valve adjustment would be $325, and the crank seal leak would be $245. everywhere i have heard otherwise the cost of these fixes would be much more than i was quoted. after receiving this news i called honda again to create a claim. i still have not been able to speak to my case representative on the problem. my concern is that the sticking piston rings could have lead to the two other leaks my vehicle is having. i feel as though honda needs to cover the costs to fix this problem seeing as though the piston rings are an issue. *tr
Recently, my car started consume too much oil. to fix that, dealership advised to replace piston rings for better result. after we have new piston rings, in a month and so engine is making grinding noise while starting. dealership said it wasn't happened due to piston rings replacement. but we don't have that problem before and now dealership can charge us up to $700 for new part .
My car is burning 1-2 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles. dealership says that is normal even though the oil light is coming. my car is
This is a 2009 vehicle and i was notified august 2015 of a oil consumption recall but ask that you have 125,000 miles or less to fix however when you notify a consumer 7 years after it has been sold not to have that many miles i believe it's very unfair to the consumer because this is a problem i have had this this vehicle since ive owned it and now the dealership is refusing to fix it because of the mileage. there is no specific amount noted on how much oil consumption this car should have and honda dealership is using that to their advantage and ask that i have 3/4 of a quart of oil consumption before they would even consider which is so unrealistic.
In april of 2016, i turned the engine off. i heard the fan still running. i also smelled antifreeze. following advice from a mechanic, i checked the fluids to learn that there was no antifreeze. i took the vehicle to two repair shops. both put a pressure test on the vehicle and stated that it was holding pressure. i took it to the local honda dealership on a friday was told that they could not find anything. i told them that i smelled anti-freeze but did not see any leaking under the car. they asked me to bring it back the next week so they could have more time to analyze the complaint. they provided me with a loner car for three days. when they completed the diagnostics they called me and told me that i needed an engine, i was devastated. when i purchased the auto, in had 22,000 miles. at this time it had about 80,000. i purchased the auto october 2011. my thoughts were, this is unheard of. i still don't know what happened. it has never run hot with me. i have records of the maintenance. i am concerned that there is something about the auto that was not reported on car facts that i am not aware of. every time i took it to the dealership for maintenance, i had to request that they stabilize the floor carpet. that concerned me. why was the old removed and new installed. when posing that question, i was told that more-than-likely it was soiled beyond cleaning. but that is minor compared to having to purchase an engine for an vehicle that is known to endure thru 300,000+ miles during its life. someone is not being truthful. i notified carl hogan that i will never purchase another vehicle from his dealership and i will do my part to ensure that those i come in contact with refrain as well, even if they have to travel to another city or state. now, i must spend a minimum of 2,500 to rebuild the engine or up to 4,500 to purchase a new engine.
In regards to honda safety recall jn9. warranty extension: sticking pistons rings resulting in high engine oil consumption. i had the car inspected by the honda dealership in thousand oaks, ca. starting back in december 28 2015. they did an oil consumption test that lasted 3,000 miles on the road and had me come in every 1000 miles of those 3k miles. every oil consumption evaluation at the designed mark is burning through 1.2 qt of oil every 1,000 miles. they claim that is standard for the car to burn that much oil. my old 2003 v8 gmc yukon does not burn any oil at all. jut last week on july 19th 2016 my oil engine light came on, they (dealer) top me off with another 1.2 qt of oil off the records. no service report was taken. i do not believe a four cylinder engine should use that much oil unless indeed the piston rings are sticking.. please help!
Burns 2 quarts of oil between oil changes
Vehicle in motion turning right into parking space. brakes applied, vehicle accelerated into brick post causing significant damage to front end of vehicle and post. second incident vehicle in motion turning right into parking space. brakes applied, vehicle accelerated into grassy strip. vehicle difficult to bring to stop.
The car makes metal grinding noise when start the engine in the morning or when the engine is cool down. the noise last about 1 to 2 seconds but it's very loud. mechanics insisted it's okay to drive. it's happened for a few months now and i am just afraid that something will be break very soon.
Vtc actuator making noise and cold startup..started at about 60,000 miles
2009 honda accord vtc acuator grinding on cold start. potential to cause engine failure. no remedy from honda.
