We have classified the 155 complaints from 2009 Honda Accord about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
My 2009 honda accord's rear brakes went after only 20,000 miles. i only noticed the problem because of juddering and squeaking. honda should recall these vehicles and fix this potential safety issue. *tr
I have a honda accord lx 2009. it makes a tremendous noise on the brakes and i feel unsafe driving it. i see a long list of dissatisfied customers that have the same problem and it is very frustrating getting help from american honda corporation. i wonder how can i get help to solve the problem. one thing for sure is that i am not getting a honda again. *tr
I took my brand new 2009 honda accord lx into the dealer for routine service at 12,700 miles and was informed that my rear brake pads are failing and will need to be replaced within 18,000 miles. the dealer told me that this is a known problem with the accord's and they have been waiting for over a year for honda motor corp. to fix the problem. after reading all the thousands of consumer complaints about these rear brake pad premature failures it is obvious that many 2008 to 2010 honda accord's on the road are operating in a potentially dangerous condition. i implore the nhtsa to force honda motor corp. to recall and repair all 2008 to 2010 accord's which is the responsible and reasonable course of action before people are seriously injured or die. *tr
2009 honda accord, rear brakes needed to be replaced after only 13,000 miles and less then a year driving. *tr
2009 honda accord - premature rear brake ware. replaced rear brakes at 36,000 miles and now i need to replace them again at 70,000 miles. these brakes are defective and they need to be recalled by honda. *tr
I own a 2009 honda accord with 30,000 miles. it is a 4 cylinder front wheel drive vehicle. the rear brakes on the vehicle have worn down and now need to be replaced. i've contacted honda usa and they acknowledge their engineers have identified this is a common problem on 2008 and 2009 accords. the company claims this is not covered under the warranty, and will not cover the cost of replacing the brakes. this is a safety issue that has been identified, and yet accord owners have not been notified nor has a recall been issued. *tr
The brakes on my 2009 honda accord, purchased at "courtesy palm harbor honda" started squealing badly at 19,000 miles. i have noticed for the past three months that the car seemed to actually slow down more than normal when i take my foot off the gas -- as if the brakes were not fully released. i've also noticed reduced fuel efficiency. about a week ago, the brakes started squealing badly, as if the pads were fully worn. i figured the problem couldn't be the brake pads at 19k miles, so i brought it in to the dealer today. turns out the rear brake pads are completely worn down and it is the service technician's opinion that the cause is my style of driving -- not a defective honda problem. after telling him that i drive with only one foot (i don't hold my left foot on the brake pedal while driving), he stated that accords are built with autobahn quality, high-performance brake parts that are really soft for enhanced braking ability. i told him that i hardly feel that this base-model accord would be considered a "high performance" vehicle. nevertheless, the "soft / high-quality pads" and my driving style was his reason (according to him) for the premature wearing of the brakes. i've owned 15+ cars in my life time and have never had brake pads wear down in less than 40,000 miles - especially rear brakes! i told the tech that after doing extensive research, i found out that this is a very well-known problem with accords. he said his hands were tied and he couldn't offer me any relief without honda corp's. blessing. the service tech told me the pads were nice and evenly warn. i changed the brake pads myself and found the opposite to be true - the inner pad was way more worn out than the outer - indication a brake system defect. *tr
Brand new 2009 accord. loud & annoying brake squeaking. honda dealer acknowledges a design defect and states that honda is working on a solution. i check with them and complain often. on inspection there is premature wear, on a vehicle that now has less than 5k miles. guess i'll have a rich widow when my brakes fail before the honda recommended brake inspection. *tr
My 2009 honda accord has 15,000 miles and i was just informed by the dealership that the rear brakes have completely worn out. i informed them of squeaking brakes at 7,500 miles and was assured this is normal. the dealership told me that it is normal for rear brakes to need replacement anywhere from 12,000 to 18,000 miles. i believe this is a major design flaw which should be covered in a recall, especially after seeing so many other complaints on the same issue. *tr
Brakes on my 2009 honda accord. pads have been replaced on both the front and rear with in 5,000 miles. rotors replaced on front and the rears need it now too. *tr
2008 honda accord, brakes needed replacing after noises started coming from the rear brakes, rotors shot, drums needed replacing, pads gone. all this happened at 26210 miles for a total of $547.86. the brakes will need replacing every 20,000 miles as advised by the honda dealer. honda claims it is not a safety problem - bull - brakes are a safety problem, how can honda advertise they have a safe car and have brakes failing on over 500 complaints filed to date. these idiots are protecting their stockholders and risking the common person. ntsb needs to get a pair and start investigating honda's lies. everyone who owns a honda accord should start a massive complaint system to get honda to fix the problem. people count, not stockholders. honda use to be a great car - this one is a pile of crap so their stockholders can get more money. honda needs to step up and fix the problem or get the hell out of this country, ford stands behind their product, maybe honda should find out of americans take care of their people. *tr
Honda accord 2008 rear brake pads wear down too fast, see: http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml. they die within 15k to 25k in most cases. though not an immediate hazard, eventually there may be many honda accords on the road with worn brake pads. *tr
Rear brakes are shot. went in for routine oil change, fluids topped, tires rotated, and everything looked at. mechanic came out and said brakes are shot (car is an '09 honda accord bought new) says it's an issue on 08 and 09's but is a ware item and not covered under warranty. i did a web search and found it's not only me. *tr
Routine maintenance at dealership and was told the car needed rear brakes. the car is new and has only 16,000 miles on it. i got an outside mechanic's opinion and was told the car does need rear brakes, however, in his opinion this should be warranty work. he said rear brakes should not need to be replaced this soon. now i see from the complaints on this site, i am not alone. 2008 and 2009 accords have a problem and there should be a recall. nhtsa, please do something. *tr
2009 honda accord with less than 30k miles noted to have squeaking from rear brakes within few months of purchase. dealer said it was "normal" wear in period. squeak never resolved. went to independent auto repair shop. inspection revealed severe brake pad wear for limited mileage and dangerous amount of warping and damage to the rear rotors. honda motor co. contacted and stated "will look into it", but "nothing to do now", as this is "not a safety concern". i questioned how damage to the brake system can be considered "not a safety concern" and they hung up.*tr
The rear brake pads on both my honda accords failed with less than 34,000 miles on my wife's car and less than 30,000 miles on my daughter's honda. *tr
Front rotors weren't surfaced, others have had problems with this as well. dealer surfaced the rotors, no longer vibrates when i brake. covered under warranty, but after the fact, though. defeats purpose of buying brand new car. *tr
I bought a 2009 honda accord from a local dealer here in nashville,tn. i have about 20,000 miles on my car and i started hearing a weird screeching noise and went to the dealer for a check up. the dealer service guys told me that my rear brake pads have worn out and is out of warranty. i cross checked with other honda accord buyers and they all had a similar problems with their brake pads. this was mentioned to the dealer service guys and then they accepted that they had few thousand complaints on the same issue from new car owners. they are refusing to replace the brake pads as the company had not yet sent them any directive for such. they want to charge me $180.00 for rear brake pads replacement. the dealer name is crest honda in nashville and the car is a 2009 honda accord sedan. this problem seems to be a poor design or a manufacturing defect that the company needs to own up and fix it. *tr
2009 honda accord leased in 2008 from valley honda, 4173 ogden avenue, aurora il, 60504. the vehicle was returned to the dealership due to noise coming from brakes and steering wheel pulling to the left. returned vehicle several more times complaining of same issue. valley honda stated there per techline, honda is aware of the problem and is working on a countermeasure. in my opinion this is a safety hazard. i explained to honda, the dealership and the better business bureaus that this is a safety hazard because i have to "pump" my brakes in order to control the vehicle during stopping...all disagreed. can you help? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. while driving approximately 45 mph and applying the brakes she could hear a grinding noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that the brake pads needed to be replaced. the contact previously noticed that the brake became more difficult to engage after each stop. the current and failure mileages were 17000.
Rear brake pads squeaking very bad. had to get the rear pads replaced at 19k. this is a new 09 honda accord. *tr
2008 honda accord lx, rear brakes worn out at 19000 miles, this is clearly premature. *tr
This is a very common problem is arising with honda accords 2008 model, rear brake pads. they tend to wore out after 15,000 miles. i am a owner of 2008 honda accord v6, and at first i didn't think this would happen to me since i figured it's just random events but after today seeing that right side rear brakes are almost gone and there is only little bit of pad left on right side, i started researching and found out this is a very common problem with honda accord 2008 models. i contacted my original dealership and they totally acted like this is not common at all and very rare and a car should have its pads replaced every 15,000-25,000 miles. it makes no common sense since i'm only at 17000 miles and i drive very safe and not the type to hit the brake hard. here's a link for more information. http://www.carcomplaints.com/honda/accord/2008/brakes/premature_brake_wear.shtml. *tr
2009 honda accord- the car had 200 miles on it and the cvb boot with all the brake fluid broke making the car unsafe to drive. had to argue to dealer to get it fixed. the car now has 11,900 miles and the brakes squeal, took to the dealer informed half of the rear brakes are gone and that the squealing canbe from the weather. this was suppose to be a new car. there is a class action suit against honda due to the brakes wearing out prematurely but the consumer has to pay first to have them repaired . someone needs to look into the safety of honda accord braking system for 2008 and 2009 models.*tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. the contact stated the brakes and the transmission are making a loud noise when shifting gears into reverse. the dealer test drove the vehicle, duplicated the failure and stated that since the vehicle is brand new the noise will subside. the honda manufacturer advised the contact to have the vehicle repaired by a local dealer. the contact informed the manufacturer that the vehicle was diagnosed on two occasions by the dealer. the failure mileage was 11 and the current mileage was 460.
2009 honda accord sedan v-6. currently has 2400 miles. brakes have been squeaking since new. i took it to the honda dealer and they said that honda is aware of the issue but that it is due to the composition of the brake pads and they do not currently have a fix for it. the brakes seem to work ok but the squeaking is disconcerting, and i believe it is a safety issue as the existing squeaking will make it difficult to ascertain when the brake pads actually become worn down. *tr
I purchased a brand new 2009 accord ex-l v6 coupe in september 08. i only have about 19k miles and the dealership says the rear brakes are at 0% while the front brakes are at 90%. this is a front wheel drive vehicle and there is no reason the rear brakes should be completely gone. *tr
I bought a 2009 honda accord sedan and after approximately 1000 miles, the brakes when applied started to make a screeching sound. i thought that maybe the brakes would have to be broken in but after a 2000 miles, i had the same noise and was getting louder. i made an appointment to service the car at the dealership where purchased. the fix was replacement of the pad shims and grease. less than one hundred miles i took the car in again, and this time i told them that something had to be replaced. the brake pads at least. the serivce attendant said that honda could not do anything. i called honda corporation and basically was told the same thing. honda could not do anything because there were no recalls. the last thing i told honda was that i just had to live with the problem and simply said yes. i would hope that this complaint is joined with others to force honda to resolve this problem. thank you. *tr
Brake wear and noise. *tr
My husband and i just purchased a 2009 honda accord ex in may 2009. we have taken it back 3 times to complain of the brakes squealing. the service department has given us written information stating honda is investigating. we have requested new brakes and they state this would not fix the problem. *tr
Premature brake wear. *tr
2009 honda accord. brakes squeal very loudly when applied. been to the dealer 3 times about this issue. first time they cleaned the brakes, second time they turned the front rotor and sanded the brake pads. third time (6/20/09) they handed me a tsb about the issue. the accord had 2232 miles when this first started and was taken to the dealership. today it has 3816 miles. very poor for honda. really nice car to sound so cheap. *tr
2008 honda bought new after 28,000 miles hondaland said i needed back brakes, everyone knows the front always go out first and i called the honda corp. and after all the frustration they insisted i pay by cash or certified check, my wife was on the way to pick up the car when they call me stating this. when she got to hondaland they insisted that she have them shuttle her to our bank to get cash, this is totally ridicules and i want something done about this. the honda corp. called the dealership and said i must pay cash, i wanted to put it on my credit card so i wouldn't be short on cash this month. i am appalled at there actions and i expect a cash refund and i want honda to pay for this brake job that never should have been needed, i went on the internet and there have been over 200 complaints, the worst was only 5,000 miles and the back brakes were shot. factory recall !!!!! *tr
I bought a 2009 honda accord on may 5, 2009. i've noticed the breaks squeak terribly. this should not be happening with a brand new car. the honda dealership will do nothing as they claim honda sent them an email advising them they are working on the problem and should have a solution by july 1, 2009. it is july 25th and still nothing. there are several complaints about this very problem and honda needs to remedy this in a timely manner. *tr
Honda accord ex-l 2009. purchased may 2009. brakes have been squealing since purchase of car. i took it in and the service person said, "90% of all 2008 and 2009 accords are having the same problem. american honda is aware of the problem but that there is no current recall for it. as to when there will be a recall, it may be next year, if there is one. until then, there is nothing we can do about it. and there is no point in replacing the brake pads and rotors because it will end up with the same problem. it won't go away by replacing them." if 90% of the new honda accords are having this problem, then certainly american honda should do something about the squealing brakes.*tr
I purchased a 2009 honda accord ex-l on april 11, 2009 from hoffman honda in avon ct. within the first 500 miles, the brakes started to squeak loudly. i tolerated it, barely, until the first oil change at 3,000 miles at which time i complained to the dealer. the service representative said he could not hear it though it was apparent that he temporarily fixed the problem by cleaning the brakes pads and/or rotors. it's been 300 miles since the first service and they are squealing loudly again. this is extremely dangerous because it forces the driver to not apply the brakes correctly to try to quiet the deafening noise. it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. this is a known problem and should be corrected by honda. *tr
Brand new honda accord sedan v6 cylinder automatic transmission. less than two weeks old, rear brakes howl madly, vibration when braking on firm stops. dealer turned the rotor-out of round .12mm. results better for now, but....i wonder how long it will last. honda has reputation of poor brake system apparently. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. the contact purchased the vehicle on april 1, 2009. she heard a squeaking sound when the brake pedal was depressed. the dealer stated that this was a common issue with her make and model vehicle. the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer. a mechanic test drove the vehicle, but found no failures other than the squeaking brakes. the contact believes that this is a safety issue. the dealer advised her to wait until honda issued a recall. the failure mileage was 200 and current mileage was 2,000.
I purchased a 2009 honda accord ex-l in feb of this year. since about may of this year, the brakes have had a terribly squeaking noise to it. i am afraid that my brakes are failing, however, am "assured" by honda that it is just a cosmetic defect. i do not feel confident in this request. please investigate. *tr
Brand new 2009 honda accord ex-l/ w nav 4cyl engine. after 1 day of ownership the car has a terrible shudder in the steering when applying the brakes. dealer service manager said give it a 1000 miles and we will see if it goes away! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving at speeds of 55 mph and applying the brake, she could smell a burning odor and the vehicle was making an unusual noise. she confirmed the brake pedal would periodically stick to the floor board. the vehicle had been to the dealer twice for the failure. the dealer replaced the brakes on both occasions. the failure persisted. the approximate failure mileage was 300 and the approximate current mileage was 35,000.
Brakes have squealed since 2 days after purchase. have spoke with dealership and taken for evaluation several time without resolution. i was advised by the dealership that honda was aware there is a problem but does not have a fix yet. *tr
Brand new honda accord couple 2009 has had squeaky breaks since 1000 miles. i leased the car in feb. 2009. honda, although multiple complaints around the country, has done absolutely nothing on a recall, etc. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. while driving 50 mph, the steering column shook violently when the brakes were applied. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not duplicate or remedy the failure. upon further inspection, the contact noticed that water would freeze inside the wheel rims in wet, freezing conditions. the failure caused the rotors to rust and the braking system not to perform at its full potential. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that no compensation would be provided because the vin was not included in a recall. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 938 and current mileage was 1,024. updated 6/3/09 *cn updated 06/04/09.*jb
I purchased a 2009 honda accord v6 on february. when i apply the brakes my car makes a loud squeaking noise. the noise is getting worse. i've been to the dealership over 4 times and have called in regards to them fixing the problem. they told me that it was the brake pads. they are still in the process of investigating the problem. why is this taking so long? the honda consumer affairs department said that if i fix the brake i would have to pay out of pocket. honda will not fix this problem unless its recalled. my left speaker as well has shorted out. i went to the car audio store and had the speaker replaced with a new honda speaker and once again it shorted at a high volume. the gentleman at the car audio store informed me that this was a manufacturing problem on the car. *tr
As many other 2009 honda accord owners have complained, i too have squeaky brakes, from the almost the get go on my car. i contacted the dealer, and they said i had dirt in the brakes! give me a break! after much research, i have found to not be alone, and that honda is doing nothing to fix the problem. *tr
We own a 2009 accord with 24,000 miles. at our first oil change, my husband asked the honda annapolis dealer about a card we had received regarding a brake pad class-action lawsuit. the dealer said not to worry about it; if there is a problem they will take care of it for free. our brakes are now making a lot of noise and the pads need to be replaced. my husband stopped in and talked to the same person in the dealership, [xxx], who said the repair would cost $230, and we would be reimbursed through the class-action. he did not mention that the reimbursement is $150 at best. so this is the second time we have been given misinformation by this honda dealership. i called honda annapolis and spoke to the service manager, [xxx], whose attitude is best summed up by his statement, "i don't want to get involved." he said that the customers and lawyers caused this problem by bringing a lawsuit. he also stated, "we don't make the cars here," and suggested that we take the car somewhere else. although my husband had just spoken to [xxx] in person, who then spoke to [xxx], he acted as though he had no idea what i was talking about. in researching this issue, i see that many consumers are complaining that the replacement pads also wear out prematurely and cause other damage. what a disgrace. i contacted the class-action law firms and got a call from someone at gibbs. she said it has to be an upgraded replacement part in order to be reimbursed; the part costs $66 and with labor the charge should be around $150. i asked how it is that honda can charge $230; she said they can't monitor that. good business sense, as well as common decency, dictates that honda caused this problem and should pay in full to resolve it. honda dealers should be authorized to make these repairs, at no charge to consumers, and apply for reimbursement themselves. it is outrageous for dealers to give customers false information and make us jump through hoops to get reimbursed. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of
Brakes on front have been replace 2 times by turning rotors twice and second time pads replaced the fear is now there is a weakness in the rotors and they could fail during a panic stop, also there is a whine in power steering which honda of america admits to but claim they do not have a fix for, they say it is not a safety issue but have do they know that the power steering could cease working at any time since that the whining is not the normal sound of the accords up to late 08 and all the 09 accord 4 cyl. *tr
Rear inner brakes wore out at 26,000 miles. the brakes should not wear out this fast. most of the miles put on the car were highway miles. there is a defect in the brake system for this car. i am afraid this defect could cause the brakes to fail in the rear. honda knows there is a defect but doesn't recall the car and fix the problem. *tr
I was hearing grinding noises from my front and rear brakes on my 2009 honda accord lx 4 door sedan. the honda dealer reported that my rear brake pads were worn down to the sensor level and would need to be replaced. my honda has 16,000 miles and i am the only owner and driver. when i inquired that for brake pads to wear down this fast, the honda dealer did not respond. after further investigation on google, it appears that this is a defect in the quality and craftmanship of the brake pads and honda or the dealer is not willing to accept or acknowledge this defect. *tr
