We have classified the 155 complaints from 2009 Honda Accord about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
I own a 2009 honda accord. at around 25000 miles i heard a noise from the rear wheels. the honda dealer where i had purchased the car told me my brakes needed to be replaced. i stated there must be some defect in the vehicle or brakes because the brakes should not need replacing that soon and the rear brakes should never need to be replaced before the front brakes. they said it was normal wear and charged me the full price of more than $250 for replacement. they admitted the new brake pads were "a longer lasting material". i was not aware of the well-documented deficiency in 2008-2009 accord brakes at the time and the dealer did not mention the issue nor offer any discounts. *tr
Rear brakes on 2009 honda accord lx need replacing at 18,000 miles. *tr
2009 honda defective brake pads worn out at only 20,000 miles. honda steadfastly refuses to take responsibility and fix the problem under warranty. *tr
2009 honda accord 4 cylinder, 30k miles, first owner passing a large truck on highway 80, california, east bound, near green valley road exit, approaching fairfield on september 28 at 2:30pm. accelerator got stuck and car continued to accelerate to dangers speeds in excess of 70mph. i had to press on the brake pedal as hard as i could to maintain control. then i shifted the car into neutral. the engine revved very high. i made sure my foot was only on the brake pedal. with in about 10 seconds the car stopped revving, but now my brake rotor are warped. i made sure my floor mat was out of the way. i have contacted the dealer. they have never heard of this problem. i had this same problem happen with my honda odyssey. *tr
Premature wear of brakes pads and defective rotors. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. the contact was braking from 60 mph when he experienced and unusual increase in stopping distance. the failure recurred whenever the brakes were engaged and the stopping distance progressively increased. the vehicle was not examined for the cause of failure and had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 11,000 and the current mileage is 12,000. updated 11/16/10*bf updated 11/16/10*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. the contact was driving 50 mph when the rear brakes began to exhibit an unusually loud grinding. the vehicle was driven to the dealer where the rear brake shoes were replaced. the failure and current mileage was approximately 33,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. while driving approximately 60 mph she engaged the brakes and the vehicle began to vibrate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance and she advised them of the problems with the brakes. the dealer did not mention anything about the brakes nor did she ask them for any information regarding them. within a few months the vehicle was taken to the dealer to service the regulator and they suggested that she replace the rear brake pads. the dealer advised her that she had to pay for the repairs and request reimbursement. the vehicle was not repaired due to the repair cost. she notified the manufacturer and filed a complaint with them. the approximate failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 17,160.
I had to replace rear pads and rotors in 2009 honda accord lx 4dr at 24,000k because of premature wear. most of my mileage was highway. *tr
I have a 2009 honda accord ex-l v6 which i bought new in august of 2008. i noticed when driving down the road that a metallic scraping sound was coming from the brakes that went away when i applied the brake pedal. i took the car to the honda dealer who said that the rear brake pads were worn and that they had been grinding into the rear rotors. there were 31,480 miles on the car as i drive mostly highway. the cost for new rear pads, rotors, and labor was $522. the class action lawsuit only pays out $150. this is extremely unfair and this defect should force a recall with full reimbursement by honda. *tr
Rear brakes squeaks, and prematurely worn at 25,020 miles on our 2009 honda accord sedan. *tr
My new 2009 honda accord has premature back brake wear. honda refused to pay for this. now i have to pay for it and then get reimbursed? i will not get reimbursed the full amount per class action lawsuit. *tr
At 18k, car started to shimmy when brakes applied. dealer said rotors were bad but pads good, said that i had driven while riding on the brakes which is patently false. *tr
On july 16th i left my 2009 honda accord in to my trusted mechanic for my annual new york state safety inspection with instructions to fix anything he finds wrong in order to meet the requirements, so when i returned from out of town, i could pick it up and it would be legal and safe. i was quite surprised to find that the rear brakes were worn to the point where new pads were needed for it to pass, which he replaced as directed. since it only has 23,400 miles on it, a lot of that highway driving, i called honda and found that there is a class action lawsuit for this very problem, although i was never notified. when i looked on the suggested website, accordsettlement.com, i read where you had to have had the brakes replaced with honda brake pads in order to receive compensation for the premature wear, although i cannot imagine anyone wanting to replace with another bad set of pads and have this reoccur. somehow, someone should direct other accords (08 & 09) to this website so that they can be sure to know the conditions that must be met to satisfy honda's requirements for such compensation. *tr
Premature worn rear brakes at 21,000 miles for accord lxi 4 cylinder! mostly all highway miles to commute to work. *tr
It is unbelievable. own a new 2009 accord, rear brake pads gone after 15,000 miles. i am told by the dealership i need to change every 10,000 miles to be safe, this is unconscionable and fraudulent. where has honda quality control gone? *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. the contact stated that whenever the brakes were applied a squeaking noise was heard in the rear brakes. the failure was not diagnosed by the dealer. the failure continued to recur whenever the brakes were applied. the failure and current mileages were 22,000. the vin was unavailable.
I leased a 2009 honda accord lx-p in nj. after 11,000 miles i needed to replace the rear brakes due to premature brake wear. i needed to pay $200 out of pock in order to fix the problem. the dealership mention they did not have any information regarding the problem since it was a honda issue and not a dealership issue. why has honda not reached out to their customer regarding this issue? *tr
2009 honda accord. consumer states vehicle has major defects in the rear brakes *tgw the consumer stated the front brakes pulsated when traveling on a hill in his area. the dealer replaced the front brake pads. *jb
I purchased a 2009 honda accord on october 27th, 2010 at 227 miles. i have not had an issues until this month when my brakes began to ware prematurely at only 11k miles. i had revived a class action letter informing me of this but see it as a clear safety violation on honda's part one as they had know there was an issue with this type of model and two as they refuse to perform work and replace the item with issues under warranty. i find it irresponsible that honda is making me pay for repairs when they know its there design flaw. *tr
2009 honda accord completely worn out rear brake system. it was purchased just over a year ago with 20,000 miles on it. i do mostly highway driving and this is premature. rear brakes must be replaced. *tr
2009 honda accord coupe v6 - front brakes were replaced at approx 12,000 due to defective parts. rear brakes need to be replaced at approx. 19,000 miles. honda is refusing to provide any warranty repair and refuses to acknowledge a problem with its brakes. *tr
I had my 2009 honda accord in for service and was told the rear brakes needed replacement. i have only 25,000 mile on it. it was not covered by the warranty, but i was told there is a class action lawsuit pending against honda. this is a major safety issue and a recall should be made. *tr
2009 honda accords have been recognized to wear prematurely because of caliper pins that were installed incorrectly at the factory. honda has a court hearing on this and you can see more info on www.accordsettlement.com. the consumer who purchased or leased one of these cars will be reimbursed $100 - $150 to replace the pads, but the general price to do this at the authorized honda service centers is sometimes double that. the consumer is being ripped off, and the nhtsa should step in and rectify this. *tr
I was coming out of my driveway. i hit my brakes and my car would not stop. i hit a parked car across the street. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. upon taking the vehicle in for routine service, the contact was informed that his rear brakes needed to be replaced. the contact stated that the vehicle had been experiencing recurring brake issues since the purchase. the vehicle experienced increased stopping distance and also wobbled when the brakes were applied. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure and current mileages were approximately 20,000.
2009 honda accord. consumer states a problem with the abs and squealing fan belt *tgw the consumer stated he encountered a vehicle attempting to cross two lanes of traffic abruptly and without warning. he narrowly avoided a collision, but in the process his vehicle went in a right hand skid with the tires screeching. it became apparent that the anti-lock brakes did not function, no pulsating occurred as he had experienced in previously owned vehicles. the dealer stated the belt was squealing due to it getting wet from the rain. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance with 33,000 miles on may 10, 2010. the dealer stated that the rear brake pads were prematurely worn out and replaced them. the failure mileage was 33,000 and the current mileage was 40,000.
My fiance' purchased a 2009 honda accord ex 4 door sedan. she complained about a month ago that she started hearing a high pitched squeal coming from the rear. she had about 19k miles on it so i was bewildered what it could be saying it can't be brakes so it must be a bearing problem. i took it to the dealer, where he reported i needed brakes. he said "honda admits they might have an engineering problem with the brakes with premature failure, but won't admit it." service rep stated that the pads especially in the rear are far too small to handle the weight of the car so they wear especially faster than other vehicles. he stated they did a modification by adding a steel sensor so the owner knows when they are getting low. he wouldn't admit that before the modification, there were no sensors on the brakes people would be metal to metal and not know it because of the extremely low miles of wear. online reports put brake failures for this model starting from 2008 anywhere from 14k to 21k. see your own site here: http://www.lemonlawclaims.com/honda%20accord%20brake%20problem.htm question is: in acknowledgement of toyota's current safety issues, when are you going to call honda front and center to address their cavalier attitude to this issue? honda's catatonic movement addressing this issue implies they are more concerned with revenue for repairs than safety for it's owners. this is going on now for 2 model years! when i left the dealer, i still heard a squeal when i hit the brakes. i went back and took the technician who did the brakes for a test drive. he said i needed the front's replaced too. that is over $400 for brakes and the car is only 1 year old. once again, honda is more concerned over repair revenue than passenger safety. how many people have died from brake failure in late model hondas? fyi: there was another woman waiting in the dealer lounge with me... her 2009 accord had 19k miles and she was told she needed brakes on all 4 wheels. *tr
2009 honda accord sedan. purchased on 11/6/2009. car was out of alignment when picked up . 1/27/2010 6336 miles resurfaced front rotors and balanced tires due to severe vibration. 2/5/2010 6897 miles resurfaced rear rotors and road force balanced all tires. 3/24/2010 10380 miles resurfaced rear rotors and road force balanced all tires. 4/28/2010 11813 miles replaced rear brake pads, resurfaced rear rotors. mounted and balanced 4 new tires due to continued vibration. car remains in shop trying to correct vibration. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. while driving 30 mph, there was a grinding noise when the brakes were applied and they failed to work properly. the dealer was contacted and would not provide any assistance. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the diagnostic test indicated that the rear brake pads were prematurely worn out. the brake pads were replaced. the failure mileage was 23000 and the current mileage was 26000.
Complete rear disc brake failure on a honda accord 2009 with approximately 20,000 miles. replaced rotors and brake pads by a firestone repair shop, as dealer was not open on a saturday. in the 2 days time we heard a noise coming from the rear of the car, the noise increased by about 300%. brakes were down to the metal. front brakes were fine. we kept the parts and are reporting to a honda dealer in danbury, ct. this sat. may 1, 2010. *tr
Intermittent scraping sound from rear of 2009 accord lx-p <20,000 mi. increased frequency over time. took to the dealer where purchased who replaced both rear brake pads (old parts not available) and resurfaced both rear rotors for a cost of $250 - declaired not covered by warranty. internet research and notification of a class action lawsuit for this rear brake failure indicates this is a common problem for specific honda and accura models. i contend that honda is aware of this problem since they have devised (but not delivered to dealers as yet) a replacement set of brake pads. also this is indeed a safety problem since both rear brake pads were at zero pad life remaining and rotors were damaged per the dealer service techs. that means to me that my accord had only 1/2 the designed braking ability which was engineered for this car - making the car unsafe in any emergency braking situation. *tr
Premature brake wear on 2009 honda accord v6. brakes have squealed every time vehicle is driven (since about 5k miles). on 3/20/10 after routine service, i was told vehicle needed rear brakes (disks) at 19,203 k miles. i subsequently did checking on edmunds.com and it appears this is not an isolated incident. also, i visited an acura dealer's service center to see if the acura tsx had similar issues - it does.
2009 honda accord ex-l 4 cyl. rear brakes worn at 18,000 miles. *tr
I purchased a 2009 honda accord within the past few months. i was looking into a problem with another vehicle of mine and stumbled across an issue many if not all 08' and 09' accord owners are facing. countless consumers report defects with the rear brakes. mostly that they need to be replaced every 12,000 miles. dealerships are telling the consumer this is the normal wear period for the rear brakes. this of course is not true, the front brakes are the ones that usually go first at around 50,000 depending on driving, conditions, etc. i learned honda is using soft small organic pads. furthermore i've learned of the dealerships unwillingness to cover the cost of the pads and labor from state to state. there is a serious design flaw regarding the brake system. my accord currently has only 4,000 miles on it. though i have not yet experienced the problem everyone else has, i know it is coming. it may seem odd for someone to report a problem that has not happened yet, however the need to be proactive regarding this matter will no doubt save lives. as a police officer in texas, i see the grim reality of what happens when vehicles are driven beyond their means or when the vital systems of these vehicles are defective. if these pads can't handle "normal wear and tear" they certainly will not be able to provide adequate stopping power during a harmful event. we all care about safety and our families welfare. please look into this matter. our safety should never be compromised over the gain or loss of a dollar. lets fix this now, not after a major incident. someone should not have to die before we decide something should be done about a problem that existed all along. thank you. *tr
2009 honda accord there are serious brake noise problems and premature brake wear issues on these cars. *tr
Rear brakes are having to replaced at 16,000-20,000 miles, called honda dealer they said it is a problem in the 2008 and 2009 models ,the engineers put rear brakes that are too small on the car. honda corporate office knows it is a problem and are logging complaints at this time. my concern is that i have a 6 cylinder and that it is a heavier car then the 4 cylinder version. *tr
This is the second honda accord that i have bought that had premature brake failure. the first honda accord 1996 had to have new rear brakes and pads at around 20,000 miles. this 2009 honda accord had premature brake failure at 21,085. this is not acceptable!! the bill was 409.24 + tax. absolutely ridiculous!!! *kb
I own a 2009 honda accord . it was purchased around october 2008. on january 21, 2010, it was taken to our local honda dealer due to squealing brakes. the dealer reported that the rear brakes were worn and the pads needed to be replaced even though there is only 12,901 miles of use on the car. according to the dealer, this has been a common problem with 2008 and 2009 model accords because the rear brakes were reduced in size even though more of the car's braking power was shifted to the rear axle. the dealer stated that many recent honda accords were needing rear brake pads replaced within one year and in as few as 7000 miles of use. as a "goodwill" gesture, the dealer agreed to replace the brakes for free. i then contacted honda's corporate customer service center in torrance california and was informed that honda is aware of this issue, but does not consider it a safety matter and has not issued a service bulletin regarding this issue. i believe the matter is a safety issue as few drivers would assume that their rear brakes might need to be replaced annually or after as few as 10,000 miles of use or less. by way of comparison, my 2004 honda accord has over 92,000 miles and the brakes are still original. i urge the nhtsa to investigate this issue promptly before a driver hits the brakes in a honda accord and discovers little or no brake power due to the unexpectedly few miles such brakes work before needing to be replaced. *tr
Brakes making a noise, turned rotors and replaced pads, problem returned in jan.10, rotors turned again, honda said faulty pads was the clause replaced once more, call had less then 4,000 miles on it first time, approx.7000 second, i think rotors should not be milled over once and then rotors replaced ,they will not hear of that. strange whine coming from bottom right side of transmission or engine, honda claimed service bulletin call for oil pump to be replaced, which they change, no change in the sound plus now there is a leak from where they made repair. *tr
2009 accord coupe v6 - brake noise (squeal) present since vehicle was purchased in 3/09 so i performed regular visual inspections and noticed pronounced wear of rear pads. at 13k mi - took car to dealer who replaced rear pads under warranty (after originally telling me that they were a wear item therefore not covered but i balked due at paying knowing the high number of complaints for this same issue). told new pads have same formula but new spring to force pad away from rotor after brake pedal is released. inspection of original pads showed maybe 10% pad remaining and chipping of pad surface. *tr
Purchased 2009 honda accord in oct. 2008. at around 15k miles, the brakes staring squeaking and making loud noise in the rear brakes. i thought it was something loose back there and kept driving. then around 24k miles the noise came back and was unbearable. took to dealership complained brakes wore out too quickly. said it was normal wear and tear and i had to replace brake pads and resurface rotors. paid $130.00, dealer gave free pads, but made me pay to resurface rotors. told me the front brakes will have to be replaced soon cause car shakes when braking, rotors need immediate resurfacing. if i didn't take in asap, this could of cause an accident due to me being out of town when problems starting to occur. *tr
Premature wear and warping of brake rotors. noticed rotors required resurfacing due to vibration during braking. dealership turned rotors, drove vehicle for approximately 700 miles, and the problem recurred. returned to dealership and all rotors were replaced under warranty. pads were also replaced with merely 7000 miles. dealership stated that the life expectancy of brake pads for this vehicle was about 10,000 miles. i find that to be absurd, typically brake pads will last 20k-30k miles. there appears to be a flaw in the materials used to manufacture the pads, in the manufacturing process, or perhaps the brake assembly is inappropriate for this vehicle weight, causing the rotor to over temp and warp if not capable to dissipate the excess heat. this vehicle has been driven in extremely normal driving conditions, primarily highway driving, and had not experienced a hard braking event to that point that may have contributed to this failure. *tr
Brake system near failure with smoke and burning smell coming from the rear wheels. *tr
Brakes on 2009 honda accord started periodic vibration at 5,000 miles. at 10,600 miles the rear pads were completely worn out and braking on a steep hill was compromised. an online search indicated that there are numerous complaints about the brakes on this auto. *tr
2009 honda accord, trim level ex, engine v6 with navigation system. at regular service, dealer advised rear brake pads needed to be replaced. car had, at that time, 16,354 miles on the odometer. deterioration is four times more than front brake pads. honda is aware of this problem on all 2008 and 2009 honda accords but has never notified individual owners of the problem. dealers have been advised by honda to offer owners a partial refund on brake pad replacements. however, the replacement does not alleviate the problem. the owner would again have to replace the brake pads every 15,000 miles or less. honda continues to sell these cars new without advising the potential buyer that the vehicle has a major rear brake pad problem. i feel honda is attempting to hide the problem to avoid a recall and to lessen their financial liability. research into this problem on the internet reveals that thousands of owners have this problem for which honda refuses to accept liability. i consider such premature brake pad wear exposes the owner to potential brake failure resulting in serious injury or death. *tr
Brakes squealing for a 2009 honda accord coupe . i have noticed this issue even at my 3k miles now its 13k miles and still has the issue i have read hundreds of complaints for this issue. have had the car for more than a year now honda should have the solution by now. problem is mostly experience on a stop and go. *tr
Rear brake pads needed to be replaced after less than a year. *tr
Original rear brake pads had to be replaced at 15,500 miles. the replacement rear brake pads are now at 4.0 mm at 25,400 miles. that is only 9,940 miles after the first replacement. original p/n:43022-tao-a40. *tr
