We have classified the 176 complaints from 2004 Honda Accord about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Just hit the 100,000 mark on this accord. the transmission is out and will not shift into gear. it just stopped while driving. thank goodness this did not happen on the freeway. hondas are supposed to go forever, but this seems to be a common problem. the recall apparently did not fix the transmission problem. i will not be buying or recommending honda again. *tr
I have a 2004 honda accord ex v6 and the transmission started slipping. i took it to a honda dealer, where they told me i needed a new transmission, which may not be covered by the recall. driving on interstate and city roads, the car stops. the engine starts, but i am not able to accelerate the car. according to recent diagnosis, which suggests that there was a failure of the automatic transmission. i have been made aware of recent transmission issues with other 2003-2004 honda accord vehicles, which i find unlikely for the honda brand. *tr
Honda accord ex-l v6 2004 116''000 i was driving on the highway at 55 mph, and was coming up on some stand still traffic. i was in the middle lane going about 20 mph. as the traffic started slowing down and i was attempting to get over to right lane and merge off the exit when my transmission failed. i hit the gas as i pulled into the right hand exit lane but my car would not accelerate, causing me to almost get rear ended. the rpm gauge was at 3 but the car wouldn''t accelerate. i had to rev it and coast down the highway with cars behind me blowing at me. the fastest the car would go was 10 mph on a single lane exit onto another highway so i got to nearest exit (2 miles away) coasted down the exit and pulled over and shut my car off. after 10 minutes with the car off i started it back up and attempted to get back home the car did fine for 10 minutes until arrived 3 blocks from house and had to pulled on the side of the road from the same transmission failure with emergency lights on, i cut off the car for another 10 minutes and made it home. my car has 116,000 miles and i''ve researched recalls on my make and model and honda has 1,000,000 recalls on 2004 honda transmission. when i call honda's toll free number and gave my vin number and honda representative says there''s no recall on my vin. they also mentioned to take it to honda dealer to get the problem diagnose which they will not cover. i felt like my life was danger, i almost got rear ended twice and honda will not correct there problem with their faulty transmissions. i''ve reviewed dozens of forums with thousands of complaints from different honda owners with the same year (2004) with the same problem as me- and honda did not help on repairs or any compensation. *tt
I have a 2004 accord ex-l v6. i began hearing a strange noise from the transmission with a loss of motive power at speeds between 25 to 45 mph.. my honda dealer said it had an internal fault and would replace transmission for $3800. i had a transmission repair shop repair transmission for $2900. the torque converter needed replacing. car had 97k miles. *tr
Transmission total failure occurred while traveling on the high way. *tr
While attempting to pass a tractor trailer on the highway my transmission failed to shift into a higher gear & start to slow down. it was almost as if my car was in neutral. my rpms shot up but my car wasn't accelerated. i was nearly hit by the tractor trailer & was nearly hit several more times as i coasted across three lanes onto the side of the road. i called a local dealer & they want approx $5000 to repair it. i did a search online & this appears to be a widespread problem. *tr
My transmission was recalled in 2004 however the "fix" was to install an oil jet kit and extra lubrication to the gears. the transmission still failed at only 65k miles. honda now refused to pay for the repairs. honda knowingly put my safety and the safety of my two year old daughter at risk by not replacing the transmission. the incident happened while driving my daughter to school and i become stuck going up a hill and started rolling backwards into oncoming traffic. *kb
Noticed leak on garage floor, took it into honda dealership, told by technician carrier bearing in transmission is very loose causing leak, likely need transmission replacement, low mileage 70,730. wonder if this should have been considered in recent recall date of 8-4-11 since this car was manufactured in july, 2004. *tr
I own a 2004 honda accord ex coupe v6 engine...and the transmission has failed at 79,000k miles. a safety issue because i was almost rear-ended as i was trying to go up a hill and the car did not want to go forward anymore although it was in drive and i was pressing the gas...it kept rolling backwards as if it was in reverse, and i have an automatic transmission!!!! this seems to be an ongoing problem for this make and model of this year's vehicle...i want to join the other thousands of people out their to report this as a safety problem, it could've cost me my life an anybody that was behind me! *tr
I have a 2004 v6 accord with 110,000 miles and had a previous throttle position sensor replaced a year ago b/c the tranny did not shift down into lower gear intermittently on highway. now i have the opposite problem, where tranny doesn't shift up into overdrive. so there is another sensor problem. turning off/on the car resets it. but local mechanic said test drive showed jerkiness from 1 to 2nd gear, and i've always noticed/ignored a judder from high gear to low gear, e.g., slowing down at off ramp. and he said the tranny fluid looked burnt. and there is an emissions controller fault and leak too. the recall for 2004 transmissions does not include my vin...and reading the nyt blog from jan 2011, suggests it might not have been a good recall fix anyway. but in my call to dealer service dept and to honda n.america, they came across very defensive people on phone. can't see buying another honda again. *tr
Transmission failed. one day it is working fine the next day per the honda dealer the transmission is unrepairable and needs to be replaced. the cost to me was quoted at $4100.00. i purchased the vehicle new, there was a recall on the transmission, i wonder when honda is going to notify me of the recall? *tr
The vehicle is automatic and takes up to 3-5 seconds before wanting to accelerate once its put into drive and then slight kick once it gets into gear. the vehicle begins to vibrate at the speed of 55 as well. the vehicle kicks also when in drive and it switches gears around 30 mph. *tt
2004 honda accord transmission failure it just stop working honda did a recall on this yr and model but said my vin is not in the recall its failure is the same as the recalled vehicles. *tr
Transmission failure - started as a vibration around 60 to 65 mph. dealer assessed and indicated the transmission needs to be replaced at only 78000 miles. *tr
On june 30, 2004, honda's north america website released a statement about their voluntary recall to certain honda & acura automobiles. my 2004 v6 honda accord is mentioned on this recall. on 4/30/05, honda dealership shows in my repair history report that the v6 automatic transmission second gear is inspected. the report says "inspect 2nd gear and install lubrication kit on transmission. inspection show no problems". this clearly does not indicate that the repair was completed. case in point, on other repairs made by the dealer, they will clearly state that repairs have been made by stating "performed tire rotation" or "replaced rear brake pads". on 3/19/11, i take the vehicle in for an oil change and the dealer recommends that the transmission fluid be replaced. this work is completed by the clear definition on the repair order form "drain and inspect transmission fluid, clean magnetic plug, replace drain plug seal, replace with new honda transmission fuide. inspect seals and trans for leaks. performed trans fluid service". contrary to the 4/30/05 service report, the transmission fluid service was completed. at this time, shouldn't the inspection show wear and tear and cause of concern to the auto technician that the transmission will need to be replaced? this should be a safety flag that goes off to the dealer which was not notified in the history repair log or to myself. on 8/12/11, transmission locks up and car fails on the interchange of highway 270 and highway 40 ' two major highways in st. louis. have to pull off to side of the road and wait for aaa to tow the car to the dealership. the next day, the dealer quotes me a price of $5100 to replace the transmission. still waiting to hear from my assigned honda case manager for any assistance for this high quoted price. when contacting other auto technicians, the price quoted is 1/2 the cost. *tr
I was driving 70 miles per hour on a busy freeway when the vehicle down shifted abruptly and drastically reduced in speed. it refused to shift into higher gears, randomly spiked in engine rpm, and resulted in a hazard due to quickly-approaching traffic from behind. the vehicle's speed had reduced to nearly 20 miles per hour in busy freeway traffic before i had successfully navigated the vehicle across 3 lanes and onto the shoulder. i turned the engine off and shifted the transmission into park. i turned the engine back on a few minutes later, and was able to get the transmission to shift and drive normally until the end of the off-ramp. upon reaching the off-ramp's stop light, the transmission died again, and refused to accelerate the car. the engine was responding to gas pedal inputs as if it were in neutral, although the transmission was in drive. i waited for several traffic light cycles, unable to move the vehicle and amid impatient drivers' car horns from behind me. thankfully, the car's transmission responded temporarily again, long enough to maneuver the vehicle into a nearby dealerships parking lot. we had to push it the last few feet into the parking spot. here, the transmission had finally failed to the point that i could no longer shift it out of park. i called my insurance company to get a tow truck to tow the vehicle 15 miles back to my local honda dealership. they diagnosed the issue as a transmission failure, which required a new transmission altogether. they were surprised by the relatively low mileage, but said it was a frequent problem likely due to a design flaw in the v6 automatic transmissions on these accords. i was especially disappointed because i had just spent over a thousand dollars in maintenance costs at this same honda dealership a week before, where i have consistently maintained my vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact was driving 60 mph when the tachometer malfunctioned and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle would not shift between gears and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the dealer advised that the transmission had failed due to burned transmission fluid caused by excessive heat. the dealer did not replace the transmission. the failure mileage was 127,000.
I have a 2004 honda accord that had a transmission failure with no warning. it had 88,000miles on it and very well maintained. i was driving on the highway about 2 hours away from home when the car started slowing down or downshifting on its own. i felt like i was just coasting or in neutral. i pulled over to the side of the road and waited a couple minutes and tried to start my car up again...it did. i started driving again and not even 3/4 of a mile later the same thing happened. i did this pull over/ turn off/ turn on thing all the way home with my daughter in the car ( 2 hrs away was too costly for a tow). what should have taken 2 hours took close to 4hrs 20 mins. i called my local honda dealer and they said that they needed to look at it to diagnose the problem which would have cost me $120.00 to tell me what i already knew...my transmission was shot. i took it instead to an independant garage $45.00 and they said it was an internal transmission failure. i called honda back and they said there is no recall and it would cost 3800.00 to get a rebuild transmission. corporate said my vin did not have a recall and i would have to pay. when all was said and done i paid $4213.00 for a rebuilt transmission with 36,000mile or 3 year warranty. i am getting rid of this car before warranty runs out and not buying another honda ever. *tr
I have a 2004 honda accord ex v6 and the transmission started slipping and i took to a honda dealer and told me i need a new transmission it not covered by the recall they a full of it i think there is a scam going on at honda. *tr
Transmission with only 116k miles failed while driving approximately 50 mph. car violently downshifted, which forced me to drive it to the side of the road. vehicle has been meticulously maintained. i am original owner and was never notified of the recall tsb on the transmission, even though i never moved from my address which i purchased the car new from showcase honda in phoenix, arizona in july of 2004. i only discovered that there was a tsb recall on 2004 honda accord ex v6 transmissions after i researched info of the transmission failure. these transmissions, although 8 years old now are still on the road and may cause fatal accidents. luckily for me, no cars were immediately behind me and i was able to safely steer my car off the road. *tr
The transmission of my 2004 honda accord v6 slips between 1st and 2nd gears. this happen while trying to accelerate onto an interstate. towed into repair shop, but no problem found. problem recurred next several days, but not as severely. just had 105000 mile check up with no issues, and now this expense! i see there have been recalls and class action suits for this transmission. what is my relief? *tr
Driving along 60mph and power to transmission suddenly lost. coasted to stop and the side of road. reverse nor drive worked. we had to call a tow truck and toed to honda dealership 3 hours from home. holiday weekend so had to call home for a ride home leaving car at dealership; dealership said transmission needed to be replaced and have now been out of a car for 7 days and must drive 3 hours back to get car now. *tr
Transmission downshifted without warning into lowest gear causing the car to jerk and decelerate very rapidly, which resulted in lost control of the vehicle. after coming to a stop transmission would not engage, leaving the car disabled in the middle of the highway.
Driving on interstate highway the car suddenly stopped working.the car then with difficulty had to be pulled to the breakdown lane with the momentum of the car. engine was running but could not accelerate the car. subsequent diagnosis suggested that there was a failure of the automatic transmission. *tr
@120,000 the transmission in our 2004 honda accord went out with no warning at all.if the traffic was not light at the time someone could have been hurt. honda did not tell us of a transmission problem. we replaced the trans. and 50,000 miles later the 2n
I was trying to merge onto the freeway and was almost rear ended because i could not get the vehicle to go over 30 mph. i was scary to say the least. *tr
I purchased a 2004 honda accord in october of 2008, the car was running and functioning well until the year 2010 where i started to have problems with the radio not working, the transmission failed and now in 2011 had to replace the sop ecm (per honda dealer the memory card of the car), i have spent more than $6,000 on this car because i had so many major a minor problems with it. and even though i have followed the schedule maintenance visits to the dealer this car still reflecting problems. i have gotten everything fixed till this moment and im afraid the car will still give me problems in the future. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. when the vehicle stopped it began to lunge forward. the contact placed the gear shift in neutral and then back into to drive; however, the vehicle continued to lunge forward. the contact added transmission fluid and was able to drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic. the mechanic stated the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 04v176000 (power train:automatic transmission) that may be related to the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and stated the vin was not included in the recall. the approximate failure mileage was 123,000. updated 07/20/11*lj the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired. the consumer stated the transmission was replaced after the vehicle began lurching and soon after, it would not move at all. updated 08/05/11*jb
Driving on freeway with no warning the car comes to a sudden stop as if the brakes were being slammed on. i own a 2004 honda accord v6 automatic. after this incident the car did not want to drive as if it was in neutral. i was slowly able to get onto shoulder. this caused a huge traffic jam. i was nearly rear ended by full size truck. after i had stopped for approx. ten minutes i was able to drive the car home with no issues. i discovered that honda issued a recall for this same exact problem. i've read many other people have had this same incident happen. one of which involved a child getting injured. i brought the vehicle to the capital city honda dealership in olympia, wa. for the recall work to be performed (it had not been done, issued in 2004). the dealership had my vehicle for a full day before i received a call saying my vehicle needed an oil kit installed which was part of the recall. the next day i was told the kit was installed and it did not fix the problem. i was also told that during the test drive the transmission locked up on the technician driving it. they then told me that the failure had nothing to do with the second gear which the recall states and that i would be responsible to pay for the repair approx. $4,000. the next day i call back stating that i believe the transmission should be changed under the recall and that they were supposed to inspect the transmission before installing the kit. they then told me they never installed the kit and the failure is not a part of the recall. many other 2004 honda owners have had the same problem. if it's not related to the recall shouldn't there be an investigation into why these transmissions are failing like this now? or are the dealerships not performing the recall inspections correctly? i implore that another recall be opened to inspect these transmissions again and further than just the color of second gear. i don't want another driver injured or killed due to this or a child injured or killed. *tr
2004 honda accord v6 - "not under existing recall" 1. transmission started to slip 2. brought to dealer to diagnose 'complete failure due to internal mechanical part' 3. towed to independent garage for repair. *tr
There was absolutely no warning that my transmission was going to fail. i was stopped at a red light. when it turned green, i started to go and was entering onto an interstate on ramp. i was in 5pm traffic, which was thick. my car wasn't picking up speed. i looked down and the rpms were high. i let up off the gas. the car started to go, and then jerked like it was stopping. the car behind me almost rear ended me. i was in the interstate on ramp with no where to pull over. i tried to give it gas, and the car would not pick up speed fast enough. i let up off the gas again and it would go and then jerk to almost a stop. it was like someone else had control of the gas pedal and break pedal. it did this five or six times until i could get off the road. i had it taken to the dealership, where i was told the transmission needed to be replaced which would cost $4,000. again, i had no warning this would happen and had no prior problems with the transmission. the fluid had been changed just 3 months before this happened. the car had always been maintained at the dealership. this is a 2004 honda accord ex, 6 cylinder, with 134,000 miles at the time. honda refused to help with any cost. although there was a recall on some 2004 accords, they said my vin number was not one of those. a website shows 78 other people who experienced the exact same thing...with no warning and with mileage between 80,000-140,000. surely, honda is aware of this issue and it was broader than they thought. this is a safety issue. i was almost rear ended!! i plan to bring this to the media's attention. *tr
My 2004 accord ex failed yesterday on the freeway, dropping from 65 to 20 mph and then zero and getting me almost rear-ended in heavy morning traffic while trying to move to the side of the road. i called aaa and they contacted a towing company and the local police department. car had to be towed to the garage and we've just been told it needs a new transmission ($3800). we called honda to check on known issues but the service department assured us that he was not aware of any issue with this model. there was no indication on the dash that there was a problem and this happened very suddenly. i was very lucky that this failure did not lead to a major accident. please advise on. *tr
I was driving our 2004 honda accord ex v6. my wife was in the passenger seat. i entered the freeway accelerating to freeway speeds (60mph) and around 55mph the car's engine revved to 6000rpm. knowing something was wrong i took my foot off the gas. the car began to coast and all of a sudden it caught a lower gear and violently started to engine brake. i almost lost control of the car. i'm certain that if the pavement was wet i would have. i am an experienced driver and was able to keep us on the road. if my wife was driving things might have been different. the car has been well taken care of and has had all of its scheduled maintenance and inspections (with records). the car was taken to repair shop and we were informed the car's transmission is bad. the car has 121,000 miles. there was a recall for transmission issues with this car year model that included cars manufactured to january 8, 2004. our car was manufactured in january 2004 and not included in the recall. we have yet to have the car repaired because of the insanely high repair cost. i have also noticed several internet sites and newspaper articles referring to honda transmission problems. i am thankful that i didn't wreck the car, but now the car is sitting in our driveway not drive-able. obviously, now i wonder if my car should have been included in the recall. i hope someone doesn't have to die before this problem is brought to light and remedied by honda. *tr
While accelerating in 2nd gear, the transmission slips causing the engine to rev, but the car remains in a neutral state. feels like the transmission is shifted into neutral while driving and then shifted back into drive. once the transmission catches, the vehicle shifts extremely hard. there is a loud whining noise coming from the front of the car while accelerating, that didn't exist before. after taking the vehicle to the dealer, it was discovered that the transmission is faulty. this vehicle has already had the transmission replaced because of a safety recall which pertains to this exact problem. honda refuses to fix the transmission because they state the transmission has already been replaced. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving long distance at 80 mph, several warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated including the transmission light. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the transmission gears were broken and would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred nine months later. the vehicle was returned to the mechanic, who then informed the contact that the speed sensor would need to be replaced but the failure had recurred within another none months. the mechanic contributed the recurring failure to the speed senor. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not further repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileage was 106,000. updated 10/17/13*lj
For 3 days prior, i noticed a second or two lag time between the car going from reverse into drive. i didn't think much of it. then about 10 minutes into driving at about 40 mph the transmission dropped to a lower gear and the car abruptly dropped to about 10 mph. fortunately, there was no one behind me or they would have smashed into my car. i then turned around and went home with hazards blinking. during the entire trip back, the transmission constantly slipped gears at almost every speed. *tr
Honda accord v6 transmission failure after 107,000 miles, where the vehicle would not stay in drive a highway speeds. a complaint was registered with american honda motor corporation, who denied there was a problem. a survey of accord v6 transmission problems indicated over 100 failures here at nhtsa, and thousands of complaints at other forums. this problem appears to be consistent with earlier failures of honda accord transmissions, where they extended the powertrain warrantees to 109k miles for replacement. *tr
Our 2004 honda accord sedan v6 - automatic transmission failure. 195,000 miles the primary purpose of this correspondence is to register a serious safety issue that occurred to my wife and i on march 20 2011, at 3:30 pm. while driving at approximately 65 mph, my 2004 honda accord had a transmission failure and lockup. while my wife and i were traveling north on 95 north the car suddenly made a click noise and jerked as if someone had jammed on the brakes and the rpm's raced. my husband attempted to slow down by taking his foot off the gas pedal and not touch the brake. the car violently jerked again as it slowed down. as he attempted to get onto the shoulder of the road, the car violently lurched 4-5 more times. with each of these sudden, unexpected jerks, we were thrown forward. thankfully, our seat belts were on, which prevented us from being thrown forward into the window. waiting to here from the salem nh honda dealership to see what the remedy will be (replace the transmission with a rebuilt one is my guess). this was the first and only time we had any trouble with the transmission, i think this is such a serious issue which, if circumstances were different, could have caused serious injury or death. this should not happen no matter what the mileage is on the car. this sounds like a known problem to honda and they should do an other recall like they did with the 2003 models and fix this problem.*tr
Vehicle exhibited "hard" downshifts while decelerating. transmission lost top gear while driving, leading to sudden deceleration and potential for rear end collision. *tr
Vehicle: honda accord v6, 2004 problem: automatic transmission failed while on a busy street and nearly was rear ended and left me stranded on busy road. honda is not admitting any fault at this moment when this model has a recall dated 2004 which i was not made aware of when the vehicle was worked on at their dealership in 2010. this defect is a safety issue because the transmission was dropping out of gear when on an interstate traveling at 70mph. *tr
Transmission went out on 2004 honda accord with only 80k miles. was on busy road and i was lucky that i wasn't hit as i jerked and slowed and sought a way to get to the side of the road. no indication the trans was failing until symptoms began and got worse in a hurry. consequences are towing to shop and expensive repairs which are being made now. honda said i had to bring it in to their shop and they had to do any repairs. no price or offer of financial help..just a "maybe" honda would offer a "goodwill" discount. decided not to try honda as others online told of the exceedingly high charges honda imposes. feel it was a safety risk that should never had happened. honda apparently has a history of transmission failures for several year models. seems they profit from not correcting the problem if they require them to repair and charge more than any private shop. *tr
2004 honda accord v6 automatic transmission issue. transmission slips out of gear while driving. was fortunate not to get into an accident as my car had no power while travelling up a grade on i-5 in los angeles county. *tr
Without warning my automatic transmission will slip out of gear. doesn't seem to be related to speed or length of time driven. just random. it could happen 20 times a day or not happen for weeks. i have contacted honda and they said it is not a recall issue, although i have found literally hundreds of the same complaint online. was told that they might be able to offer me some assistance on repair, but not 100% and not a common issue. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the transmission was shifting gears while in motion. while driving approximately 55 mph, the contact noticed that the rpm decreased to 20. while stopped at an intersection, she attempted to accelerate forward but the vehicle stalled; the failure was similar to recall 04v176000 (power train: automatic transmission). the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle had not been included in the recall. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who drained the transmission fluid and cleaned metal from the plugs but the failure continued. the vehicle had not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were 134,257.
2004 honda accord ex v6 4dr, original owner 88.7k miles needs a new transmission per the dealer. you have to issue a recall on these vehicles! there seems to still be an inherent problem with the automotive 5 speed transmissions in these cars stemming 2000!! *tr
Driving 35 mph on vehicle with 115000 miles. attempted to change lanes and speed up in order to pass slow moving vehicle, engine revved up to 6,000 rpm without actually changing gears or moving faster. transmission pump & torque converter found to be faulty. *tr
The automatic transmission on my 2004 honda accord suddenly failed causing me to completely lose power on a busy interstate. *ln
Transmission failed catastrophically without any prior warning. at 45 mph it downshifted into first gear, redlining the engine and locking up the wheels. it did it twice more before i was able to drive the 3 additional miles to my home. i'm fortunate it was at night and there was little traffic. honda has known about this problem since 1999 as covered it up, continuing to manufacture and sell cars without doing anything to correct this fatal flaw. *tr
On january 6, 2011 the transmission of my 2004 honda accord v6 (with ~84,695 miles) began slipping. the engine would rev wildly at odd times when i was not accelerating, and would slip into neutral when i was on drive or reverse. after driving a few miles in city traffic these problems would get really bad and finally the car would not move at all, even when the car was on and in drive. after breaking down in the middle of a major artery in washington, dc, and having to be pushed around the corner by two good samaritans, i finally discovered that if i simply turned off the engine and re-started the car, i could drive again, albeit slowly and with these problems persisting. at first my honda dealer misdiagnosed the problem as a battery problem, but finally after three tries they replicated the problem and diagnosed transmission failure. i informed them of the recall on all 2003 accord v6's and select 2004 accord v6s. i was told that my vin was not included in the recall, and that my vehicle did not have that same second gear problem. we complained to american honda and asked them to make this good. after having bought this car precisely because i wanted the most reliable car on the market and because hondas have the reputation for going for 200,000 miles, i was incensed that the transmission died at 85000 miles. american honda agreed to pay just $500 which barely covered the cost of my rental car for the period during which i was without my car. i feel this situation was handled very poorly by honda and that, based on all the consumers who have had similar experiences with their v6 accord transmission, it is clear that the recall was not broad enough in terms of the specific transmission problem it addressed. *tr
On december 28, 2010 i was driving my car through the windy and snowy back roads of the adirondacks when suddenly the car began to slowly decelerate. luckily there was a small shoulder where the snow was plowed off enough for me to pull over and call aaa. i had to wait 35 minutes on the side of this road in the middle of nowhere for my car to be towed. i purchased this car new in 2004 and have been the only driver since. it has been excellently maintained and always brought in for oil changes and checkups. this car, other than what happened on the 28th, is in perfect condition. i had my car towed to the nearest honda dealership in plattsburgh new york. the next day the mechanic called me and said it was an internal failure of the transmission. he gave me three options, none of which are appealing. the first option costs $2,500 for a used transmission, second option costs $3,000 to rebuild the existing transmission and lastly $3,300 for a new transmission. again, no option is appealing. when looking up the types of failures that other honda accords have had, this is right in line with them. it infuriates me to no end that this is not covered by warranty and that it will cost me over $3 thousand to fix this car. prior to this problem, my immediate family has owned 6 hondas, needless to say, we won't be purchasing any more. *tr
