We have classified the 229 complaints from 2003 Honda Accord about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
I received a notification that my vehicle was among those included in a recall for the passenger side air bag. as instructed, i called a local honda dealership to set up a time to have the part replaced. that was on february 11, 2015. i was told the part had to be ordered and that i would be contacted when i could bring my car in for the repair. it has been more than 60 days and i have not received any further information. i don't have time to chase honda to replace a faulty part on my vehicle and i certainly don't feel comfortable having anyone sit in the passenger side of my car. it has become an inconvenience. *tr

First, when i started typing in this field, the page reset and i had to re-enter the vin. so, please fix your webpage, so that it does not clear unless a submit button is deliberately pressed. the airbag malfunction light on my honda accord comes on, at the start of some engine runs, before the vehicle is set in motion, and stays on for the duration of the run. at other times, when the light does not come on at the onset of a run, it comes on when the seatbelt is unbuckled, and remains on for the remainder of the run. though i would rather that the airbag system be permanently disarmed, i am concerned that the light will come on during the annual safety inspection and cause my vehicle to fail the inspection. *tr

I received a letter from honda stating that the passenger and driver airbag was defective and could deploy abnormally causing metal fragments to pass through the airbag cushion material causing serious injury or fatality to vehicle occupants. i called the honda dealer to make an appointment to have it repaired at no cost as indicated in their letter. however they cannot have it repaired because they do not have the parts. it has been two weeks since i first called them and every time i follow up their answer is that parts have been ordered and they have no indication when it will arrive. driving this vehicle puts my family and others on the road in great danger. is there a way honda can have this repaired sooner? or are they trying to avoid incurring the cost? *tr

When i was sitting perfectly still parked in a parking lot, my driver side airbag and my passenger-side side airbag inflated. nothing had hit me, and i hadn't hit anything. i have contacted honda, and they will not return my calls, and are not being cooperative about fixing my car. there are multiple recalls for this exact thing happening. *js

My 2003 honda accord ex v-6 has 229000 miles and is need of its fourth set of engine/motor mounts. i have owned several accords and have never had this problem. the car jerks upon take off and makes grinding sounds when decelerating . also, the car squeaks, moans, and groans when slowing down to make left and right turns. my mechanic told me it is rare for a car to need motor mounts so often for a vehicle. due to the broken motor mounts, the car's oil pan has begun to leak due to movement of the engine and transmission and power steering fluids are leaking due to the movement. also, my airbag warning light turns on intermittently. i have checked several times and my car is not included in the takata airbag recall, but it does concern me. i don't know if there is a problem or if it is an electrical problem.
I purchased my 2003 accord brand new from a honda dealership. in 2004 there was a recall to fix a defect with second gear in the transmission. my car was fixed under the recall (or so i thought). i have been having continuous problems with second gear slipping. in other words when the car is in second gear it feels like its in neutral because you step on the gas and the car does not move. you have to wait for the car to shift again. you never know when or where it will happen. on 11/17/14 i was trying to get on the highway. i made a left turn to enter the highway when the second gear slipped. my car was stuck under a traffic light when the traffic light changed from green to red. oncoming traffic was approaching my vehicle at 65-70mph. i was almost broad sided. honda knows about this defect and will not replace the transmission in my car. there have been several class action lawsuits against honda for this problem. i believe this is a serious safety issue not just for me because i own the car, but for anyone who is operating a vehicle on the roadways. honda should be held accountable for this defect. i also have a takata airbag which is not subject to the recall. so i have 2 problems, the defect with the transmission puts me at a higher risk for getting into and accident. if i am in an accident and the airbag goes off, i could be injured and/or killed by the airbag. how can honda get away with this? *tr
I submitted a complaint over the phone already #[xxx] with nhtsa rep "[xxx]." [xxx] refused to specifically detail what i explained to him, which was very disconcerting and a huge waste of time, so i am submitting a separate complaint in writing. i am concerned that the takata airbag recall notice is not being properly communicated to the public. the media reporting based on nhtsa's recall notices strongly suggest that the recall only affected vehicles in 13 southern states with high heat and humidity. i bought the vehicle in colorado and currently reside and drive in california. neither of those states is on the list of 13. i contacted honda, because nhtsa's notice was not clear, and the vehicle is subject to the recall. i am concerned that the nhtsa recall information has resulted in a cycle of news reporting that misleads the public into believing that their vehicle is fine and not subject to the recall unless their vehicle is in one of the 13 states. this needs to be clarified to a much greater degree. thank you. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
There is a recall of the passenger side airbag inflator but honda has not sent letters to owners to inform us. honda has told me that these letters will not be sent out until parts are available. clearly, owners need to be informed as soon as possible to decide if they want to continue to drive their vehicles. and, secondly, parts are now available and we are still not being notified. is it legal for them to withhold notification letters? *tr
Honda wrote you a letter, which i have a copy of from your website, on june 14, 2014 confirming discussion with you about looking into problems with the 2003 honda accord driver's airbag. they have only recalled the passenger side airbag. i do not feel safe in driving my honda with the current driver airbag. what is the status of the recall for the driver's airbag for the 2003 honda accord? *tr

My daughter had just left the house, she was maybe 1/4 mile from the house and she said it felt like her steering wheel locked up so she started hitting the brakes. she was headed into a curve but the car would not turn so she crashed into an embankment which slung the passenger side of the car into a tree. both airbags deployed. she had 5 staples in her head, a concussion, a bruised lung, and some pelvic bleeding. she is still recovering from the concussion. i believe it was the air bag that caused the most physical damage to her head. but i can not understand what cut the gash in her head. *tr

Called american honda today on a different matter. my concern was if the air bags in my car were manufactured by the company that is presently in the news. the case manager ,[xxx], assured me that the air bags in my accord were not subject to recall. however he was unable to advise the manufacturer of the air bag. furthermore he did advise that media reports and information from nhtsb were not totally accurate and erroneous. i did ask him to send me a written correspondence that my air bags were not subject to recall and would not explode by accident. he declined to do so.i guess honda does not want to place itself in a product liability issue with me. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Front end collision into the driver side of another car (4-door honda accord) that ran through a red light. impact was at approximately 40 mph. driver side air bag in my vehicle did not deploy. the passenger side air bag in my vehicle did deploy, however, no one was sitting in the passenger seat. passenger side air bag also caused the windshield to shatter. a concentric shatter pattern was evident directly above where the air bag emerges from the dashboard. *tr
As i was driving to work the car started slipping, then as i arrived to my destination the car wouldn't go into gear at all. the car was overheating, as i called for service after work i tried starting the car again and it did go into gear. i drove it to the place for service but having to stop and let car cool down a couple times on the way there. they told me it's the transmission and will need a new one, or have it repaired. now i'm aware of many 2003 accords with the same problem, there should be a recall on this! i've owned 4 honda cars and all from brand new vehicles and never a problem like this before. i have had this problem one other time of not going into gear, but it came out of it after it was cooled and sitting for a few hours, so never had that problem again until now. we don't drive this car very much as i work from my home, so it didn't go out until now. i'm told we must drive it little, which is true, and not hard on our vehicles at all, because this would have happened much earlier if we had. also the air bag lights come on randomly with no reason, we had it tested and they said it was fine, humidity? that's another one to be recalled! honda, you need to help us and recall the faults that you know are an issue if you want us to continue buying your vehicles! a used to be loyal honda owner for all my life. *tr

The 2003 honda accord ex rear-ended a gmc 2005 gmc envoy going at what the driver estimates is 35 miles per hour. the accord's passenger airbag deployed but the driver's airbag did not. driver was wearing seatbelt at the time. driver does not recall anything occurring directly after the accident but was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a concussion. *tr

Warning light for air bag came on. i took it to a caa recommended garage who determined it was a defective "front drivers seat belt buckle switch" he has had several other honda cars come in with the same problem. honda says there is a 5 year warranty for this part. i believe that his part should be warranted for a much longer time as it is a important protection for the driver, should there be an accident before the part could be replaced.. honda says they might review a possibility in paying me a portion of the cost of repair if i pay a honda dealer to assess, at my expense, this problem, which i refused. i am a canadian, but wanted you to know of this problem. During a recent snow storm, my wife and i decided to carpool to work in our subaru as it has 4 wheel drive. during that storm time we left our 2003 honda accord in the garage for about 5 days. around day three or four, we heard a loud notice in the garage but cold not find the cause. the next week, after the snow had melted, my wife drove the car to work and called me stating that something was hanging from the passenger seat and that the stitching was all ripped out on the passenger side of the passenger seat. when she got home i discovered that the thing hanging out of the seat was the srs side curtain airbag. the car has not been in an accident and there is no sign of any damage to the car. we have had an independent insurance adjuster and a honda dealership inspect the car. no one can figure out why the air bag "spontaneously deployed" or how it could have happened. to date, the insurance company has denied to cover the damage under our comprehensive plan and honda of america is trying to avoid financial for replacing the defective system. *tr

When the vehicle is started the airbag light in the dash doesn't always go out. this is intermittent, occurs more often on rainy days, and when serviced mechanic said it was probably the sensor, but when put on diagnostic machine, said nothing was wrong. now there's a recall but only in humid states(?). what on earth is rain but high humidity? additionally i bought all of my hondas (3) used so i don't know if they were originally sold in a "known humid state". *tr
