Chronic problem with srs warning light. fixed once by honda dealer under warranty. problem reoccured when vehicle out of warranty. no apparent reason for problem, no accidents, nothing i did. auto would not pass state inspection with srs light on, so fixed again ($500 repair bill) at acura dealer that sold car to me. problem reoccured after 3 months, went away by itself after 3 days, then reoccured again at 4 months after repair. talked to several other honda owners and this seems to be a common problem and possible latent defect in manufacturer's product. *ak

My honda accord 2000, v6 always had a problem with the passenger side airbag and the lights used to always come on and off. i went to the dealer and complained and got nowhere where it was still under warranty. no the after the warranty is out the light is turned red. i understand that honda has recalled some of the airbags but when i gave the car dealer my vin number i was told that the recall was for cars manufactured after my car. *jb

We purchased a 2000 honda accord ex and the srs light has been on for the last year. we have had it reset 3 times but after a week it comes back on. it has been to the dealer twice but have no answers. seems to be a big problam from what i have been reading.

The srs light came on with no reason. it was reset by an approved ase mechanic. but after 2 days, it come on again.*ak

My 2000 honda accord ex has 60,000 miles. a week and a half ago, the srs light came on indicating that there was a problem with my airbags. i took it to my mechanic who didn't know what the problem was. the light is still illuminated, which is bothersome since i'm driving around with faulty airbags. there apparently are several people who have encountered the same problem. there was even a recall issued for cars of my make and model that year for this problem, however, when i called honda today, they said that my car isn't included in this. i would like to be able to get this corrected and believe honda should be responsible for this since this seems to be quite a common problem with cars from my year. i have had no recent impacts that would cause the car to have such problems. it is less than 5 years old.*ak

While driving the air bag warning light continuously illuminated on the dash board. as a result the air bags were inoperative and wouldn't deploy when needed. dealer notified. *nm

Srs light on. took to dealership, paid almost $455 to replace opds unit which is a common and well known defect by honda.*ak

I am having the same problem as many other owners are with the srs indicator light staying on. it sounds like everyone is getting their alternators changed at their personal cost, but then the light turns back on after a few days and the problem is not fixed. this is dangerous as the airbags will not work properly whilst the light is on. this problem needs to be addressed.*ak

While driving at any speed, the air bag light stayed on. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer on four occasions, but problem recurred. *ak *sc

While driving air bag warning light illuminated. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak the dealer replaced the driver's side air bag. *nm

When consumer turned vehicle on the srs light came on and stayed on. consumer read in the manual that if the srs light stayed on it indicated a problem with the system and that the vehicle was unsafe. *ak *nm

While driving 60 mph driver applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. this caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and hit the vehicle in front. upon impact, air bags did not deploy. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. *ak

When driving at any speed air bag warning light appeared on the dashboard. consumer contacted with dealership. *ak

While in moderate traffic vehicle was struck from the rear and on driver's side, causing vehicle to rear end another vehicle in front, and crashing into a guard rail. upon impact, none of the air bags deployed. driver sustained a concussion, and passenger sustained minor bruises. an ambulance transported both of them to the local hospital. police report was taken. *ak

I have 2000 honda accord lx (auto) and i have a problem with my air bag system. my srs light turned on, however i can't recall when it started but it is safe to say that it's started a couple years back. but any ways, i have had my srs system looked at and reset several times and the srs light just keeps coming back on. i believe there is defect with the srs system because several of my friend and colleagues at work have had the same problem. can the nhtsa please look into this problem. thank you. *jb

The red srs light came on and stayed on for a period of two weeks. during this time, the car went to the dealership for diagnostic. they could not find any problems and cited that perhaps electronic equipment near the driver seat was causing interference of some kind. that doesn't make sense, as i have a 2000 (honda accord cpe ex v6) and have always had a cell phone and not had problems till now. the dealership reset the light and it has not come up since. but i have read that this problem has happened with other cars. i feel a recall should be done. this is an issue that can be potentially serious during an accident if the airbags were not to deploy. the dealership said that it could mean anything from the front or side airbags. i don't think that they should take that risk.*ak

Upon starting vehicle air bag light would illuminate and would stay on the remainder of the time that vehicle is running. *ak

I am having the same problem that thousands others are having with the srs light staying on. honda should take care of the bother some error code once and for all. people are paying $80 to $100 just for the diagnosis, then more to fix or reset the light. please help us in this endeavor to ratify a annoying problem. thank you in advance, paul radics. *ak

Airbag light indicator "srs" is on all the time when the vehicle had 33000 miles. he vehicle was bought brand new and never been in any accidents.ealer found srs code 9-3, meaning drive's seatbelt buckle switch failure temporary code). no sign of damage to the wire harness and wiring. dealer cleared the code. *ak

Problem began when airbag srs light came on. i brought the car to my mechanic who informed me that the entire airbag system needed to be replaced. a couple months later, the light again turned back on and it turned out that one of the replacement parts was again defective and needed to be replaced again. my mechanic informed me that this was a common problem with the honda's but it was not a recall, i contacted the honda service department and they stated that this was not considered a defect and therefore could not be replaced without charge since my warrantee had run out. in may 2004 my check engine light came on and i was informed by my mechanic that this was a defect within the engine and required the egr to be fixed. i checked online to see if this could be something i could get some recourse on and again it is not a recall even though it is a known problem among honda accords. i just feel like i should have some recourse. within the last year i've had to pay out more than two thousand dollars in charges to have these defective parts fixed. if they are defective they should be replaced by honda free of charge.*ak

I have a 2000 honda accord vtec v6. i take good care of it, and all of a sudden all the air bag systems have shutdown indicated by the srs light. now i am starting to have electrical failures left and right. majority of my warning llights on, my console which include battery, all doors, trunk, and brake light lights are on. the transmission is starting to slip. i don't know if i got a bad honda from the batch, but just being 2 years old, it is experiencing some tough problems. i also have the extened honda plan upto 100,000 miles/6 yrs.. but of course the plan does not cover any of my problems. i don't have money to waste on the car that is nearly new, and i still owe 23000 on. please help.

On 9-25-03 while driving my honda, i heard a loud thud i thought someone hit my car, when i looked my side airbag was released, without my car not being impacted by any thing, i took to honda service and was told district manager has to inspect my car so now i am waiting. *jb

The srs light will not go out. the first time this happened was while we were on vacation and a dealer in fl checked it and reset w/out charge. tech said it may have been caused by placing cell phone on passenger seat. if it came on again, it may have been caused by a defective sensor. i have refrained from having the cell phone on the seat since then (may 03). this past sunday the srs light came back on and will not go out. my dealer's service department stated that since the car has 44,000 miles and was out of warrenty, it would cost $70 to run diagnostics. he did not know for sure, but the cause may be a defective sensor. my concern is that when the srs light is on it means that the air bags are disabled. this is a safety feature and one that is necessary. i checked the edmunds web site and noted there were quite a few complaints about the srs light.

Took 2000 honda accord exl to dealer for maintenance. upon leaving the dealership the srs airbag light came on. i took it back and they told me i needed a new module/"airbag brain" and that without it my airbags may not deploy. i told them that light had never come on before until after they worked on my car, they told me that was a coincidence and that they were no where near that part of the vehicle. they did a diagnostic free of charge and told me the error code. they quoted me $600 to replace the module. i went to a different dealer for a 2nd opinion not trusting the 1st place and they turned off the srs light model # 77960-584-a93057. i tried to purchase the part used, but no one sold it. i called around and the most affordable place i could find quoted me $390. i took it in and had it replaced and the light has not come on since. the incident occured in 9/10/03. i was looking up recalls and found that many other owners have had the same problem i had. i also have a problem with the backseat seatbelt not working and the recalls on the seatbelt are for the civic and not the accord. now i am making an appointment for the ignition switch. i also have a problem everytime i start the car the gas pedal sticks and you have to "gun it" to make it go forward.

In sept. 2003 the srs warning light came on. after contacting the dealer who said the unit "fails test" we were informed this might involve replacement parts which would not be under warranty. since this was a 2000 honda accord ex with only 49000 miles i felt this was an unwarranted repair. american honda agreed to cover the repair. the srs control unit was replaced on 10/3/03. on 10/8/03 we brought the car back to the dealer because the srs light had come back on. this time the dealer said we needed a new seat buckle. this was replaced on 10/22/03. in (approximately) july 2005 the srs light came on again. we contacted our auto repair shop and were told we would probably have to replace the unit again. this does not seem normal to have such a part fail so often. also, the side airbag light would often come on, if a purse or bag was on our side next to the door. to date we have not brought the car in to be repaired again but are concerned that we don't know if the airbags will deploy in an accident.*jb

I was driving on the freeway when all of a sudden a car cut in front of me. then the flow of traffic came to a complete halt. i applied my brakes. the car that cut me off, moved out from the lane i was on into the next lane. i was involved in a rear end collision with honda crv. my honda accord 2000 received major damage . the front srs airbags never functioned. this collision took place in the freeway at least 40 miles per hour. the front airbags didn't work. the honda dealership that i took my car for repairs which came out to five thousand dollars, told me that the reason the airbags didn't work was because it was not a direct hit, in other words they didn't want to be held responsible for checking the airbags or replacing them. they stated, that there was no recall from honda on the airbags. the community honda dealership just replaced the parts that where damaged in the collision. the front end of the car was damaged badly, it was pushed back approximately 3 feet. i was lucky, not to have had serious injuries. however, i don't trust the front airbags because they should of functioned and they didn't. i, strongly believe that honda motors u.s.a. should correct the problem with the airbags at no charge. someone should investigate this problem with this vehicle the honda accord se 2000. vehicle [xxx]. thank you. *jb *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

2000 honda accord lx - srs light has been checked and reset (51,770 miles), the mechanic said that there was nothing wrong with system and he didn't know why the light had come on. it came back on again within a month. honda tells me that the front and side passenger air bags will not deploy if this light is on. there is no extended warranty or recall for this make and model vehicle. this is unacceptable that honda will not warranty a safety system involving air bags. *nm

Srs light has failed once, no airbags. dealer "pulled code 15-3" and charged $78.00 for the diagnoses. dealer said the opds unit failed and would require replacement at cost of about $450 us. dealer said honda care extended warranty did not cover this issue. once "pulled," unit failed about 10 days later. spoke to dealer again, said again that unit needed to be replaced. since been driving with srs light on with no air bag protection. dealer blamed the problem on cell phones and/or computer being placed on seat, although i explained to dealer that i do not place phones on any seat, and i don't use/travel with a computer in the car. the dealer representative was clearly dumb founded and attempted to find some other cause. *la

While traveling on the highway and without prior warning air bag light appeared on the dashboard. *ak

Consumer honda accord srs light came on and remained on. *ts ***nar received 10-12-05*** the consumer stated when he placed his cell phone on the seat, that is when the srs light illuminated. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer where they cleared the code, however the light illuminated again. the consumer was told the position detection sensor needed to be replaced again. *jb

The srs light remains on in my 2000 accord. according to the honda dealer this means the passenger airbag will not deploy in a collision due to a faulty sensor. the car has only 33600 miles. it appears that this is a wide spread problem that should result in a recall campaign. *ak

Summary:on the 2000 honda accord after having problems with the alternator the air bags would be useless in a crash unless honda services the vehicle and erases the failure code the computer is reporting. *ak i recently had the alternator in my 2000 accord ex v6 replaced because it was not working. after it was replaced the srs (air bag) light was on and would not turn off. i then went to the local honda service center and they told me that because the alternator was not powering the computer that controls the airbags with the correct voltage it triggered the failure light. i was then told that while the light is on the air bags are disabled and would not be deployed in the event of a crash. i then told the employee that this was the stupidest thing i have ever heard, and is there any way to reset the system. i was told the car would have to be serviced and hooked up to their computer system to reset the cars internal computer (at a cost of $89.00). i set up an appointment to have this done next week but got to thinking how this is truly a safety issue. the system should reset itself when everything is normal so the consumer does not have to drive around in a car with air bags that do not deploy in the event of a crash. to have the car disable this vital part of its safety features because the voltage dropped below a certain point makes no sense. i can see it detecting an error but then when everything is back to normal it should reset. now the car is working perfectly but because the computer detected that one error now the air bags will not work at all until honda resets it (and takes $89.00).

Srs light illuminates for no apparent reason. has been traced to the passenger seat sensor. dealers claim this srs component not covered under warranty. srs system is disabled when the srs light is illuminated. a simple reset of the srs system does not permanently fix the problem. *ak

While driving the airbag light illuminated on the dashboard when the consumer laid his cell phone or personnel computer on the passenger side seat. *nlm. *ak

While driving, the airbag warning light illuminated. this was an intermittent problem. the consumer contacted the dealer. the problem with air bag light was still occurring. *ak the consumer was advised by dealer that there was no problem as long as the light did not stay on. the light came intermittently while driving and also when someone was sitting in the passenger seat. however the condition had not reappeared for 4 weeks. *tt *jb

Srs light remained consistently on for several days for no apparent reason. dealer noted the electronic sensor in the passenger seat might be affected by electronic equipment (ex. cell phone, laptop) or the control module might be defective. the srs system is not covered by any warranty beyond the normal 3yr/36k miles... since this is a life safety system that was "properly" installed, shouldn't it be covered like the seat belts with a lifetime warranty? no other explanation was given as to the cause of the srs light remaining on for several days. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 honda accord. while driving 45 mph, the srs indicator illuminated. the dealer stated that the failure was due to a faulty battery and cable. sears inspected the battery and found no failures. the dealer also stated that the failure was caused by a short in the board. no repairs were made. the vin, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown. the current mileage is 79,500 and failure mileage was 75,000. updated 01/11/08. *lj the battery replacement didn't solve the problem. updated*jb

The srs light remains on and will not go out. no repairs has been done regarding srs system. *tr

2000 accord srs light came on and dealer refused to fix the vehicle. customer states honda should fix his vehicle with no charge since he was not aware of the recall on the air bags. *kb the consumer learned the manufacturer had extended the warranty to 10 years or 150,000 which ever came first, however the consumers vehicle has exceeded the 150,000 mark. *jb

Dt: the tranmission will shift gears very losely and makes a clunking sound but only when it is in reverse. now it shifts slugishly. took dealer to the dealer twice and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. now they think it is the motor mounts. the first time this happened was in october of 2002. *ak dash board lighting goes blank. a faulty multiflex light unit was found. front brakes worn. check engine light was on. found faulty egr valve assembly and replaced. srs light is on. faulty opds unit was found. *tt

One month after my warranty expired i had two major problems. first my alternator was completely replaced as soon as i started getting some sound. the very next day i got a check engine indicator on. which resulted in some emission parts being ordered to be replaced today when i came out of the delaership my srs indicator started to display . i hope the airbags wont malfunction...
