Subject: honda 2000 accord srs light safety defect dear administrator: honda dealer at salinas in california performed recall ?ignition lock? work on my car on 3/16/05 (please see attached invoice). after that, the srs (airbags) light remains on my car. my car currently only has 32,600 miles. before the dealer performed the recall work, my car was perfectly fine. i called dealer about this srs light issue. dealer said i have to pay $101 for a computer diagnoses plus extra fee to fix the problem found. i, however, disagree because the srs light was on right after the dealer performed the recall work. before that, my car was in the perfectly shape and never got involve in any accident. as the dealer said, the airbags will not deploy while the srs light is on. i think my car?s srs light issue is caused by either the dealer is unable to remedy the defect in my vehicle or it is another safety defect in honda 2000 accord. therefore, your kind help on my case is greatly appreciated! sincerely, [xxx] p.s. car info: honda 2000 accord lx 4dr, [xxx] *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Dt: contact has a 2000 honda accord and he says that he is having problems with his sbs-air bag light. he says the light came on and stayed on so he took his vehicle to the mechanic and he said that the wiring bundle had been cut through because someone that manufacturer the vehicle had put the bundle under the passenger side seat and they wired the bundle wrong they put the wire to the air bag over the wire to the seat. and the movement of the seat going forward and back and the vibration of the vehicle had cut the wire to his air bag and disabled it. the contact called the american honda coporation on april 29th and they gave him a case number n012005-042900577 he talked to brian ho and he told him that he was going to mail a letter to his honda dealer stating the problem the contact was having. so in a couple of days he took his vehicle to his honda dealer he said he never recieved a letter so they told him they would look at the vehicle and so when the contact called back may 9th and they told him they were going to dismiss. the contact says that his warrenty is out on his vehicle and that's the reason why he thinks they dismissed the problem.*ak

The airbag warning light (srv) came on, and local garage checked it out on their computer. they came up with a "code 9-2 air bag internal fault", and said i would have to take it to the honda dealer for repair. i took it to the honda dealer, and was told that they would have to run their own independent computer check, and, if a fault was found, i would be responsible for the cost of repair. my complaint: first, air bags being such an important safety item, and their installation mandated by the government, i feel that when a defect appears, a recall at the manufacturer's expense is in order. second, if the safety board does not have a sufficient number of similiar complaints to order a recall, then at the very least the manufacturer should be required to pay for the computer test.

2000 accord srs light on after 70k miles. this is allegedly due to increase cell phone usage. its a common problem on this car should be recalled. consequences are prevention airbag deployment, possible injury or death. *nm

My car srs indicator light started to come on back in april of 2005. it stays on while my car is on with and without passengers. i finally took my car to a mechanic hoping that they could reset the light. they told me that there is a malfunction in the air bag system and it could deploy at anytime. the mechanic also told me that this is quite common in this make and model. this is very frightening because i bought a honda for their reputation for safety and quality. but to think that my airbags can deploy at anytime i drive or even not working in the case of an accident is very concerning. please investigate this with the honda accord coupe models between 1998-2003. my car is a 2000 v6 honda accord coupe lx. thanks. *nm

The srs light stays on in my 2000 honda accord. the honda dealership stated they reset the switch the first time i took my car in to be fixed. the light came back on a few days later. i took it back to the honda dealership a second time and they said a switch in the seat belt needed to be replaced. in the mean time, the dealership stated that the air bags in my car are not working because of the srs light being on. *nm

I have a 2000 honda accord sedan and my srs light came on one day & ever since then it has not went off. i am very concern about this with 2 kids that rides in this car i brought this car because it is known for its safety and is dependable. but if the airbags don't deploy that is dangerous. *tr

Dt:the contact stated the passenger's side front air bag deployed without a collision while the consumer was driving a t40-50 mph. she did not hit anything. she was on a paved road and did not go over any big bumps in the road. the srs light was coming on and going off intermittently a couple of weeks prior to this happening. no one was hurt. the dealer gave her an estimate of $2,000.00 to put it back the air bag back in. she contacted honda and they decided there was nothing wrong with the air bag. *ak *nm

Srs light (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module): this light is on all of the time. i have gotten estimates of $75 to $110 just to analyze the problem. a search on the internet showed that hundreds of consumers are having to pay for the analysis of this light being on. this seems to me to be a major rip-off of consumers for a known, defective system!*ak

Dt: the consumer owns a 2000 accord coupe. the air bag light illuminated on the dashboard. vehicle was taken to the dealer 3 times to reset air bag light. . afterwards, the air bag sensor had to be replaced. dealer did know why this happened. after replacement of the sensor this did not happened again. consumer had to pay out of pocket for repair work. *ak

Safety restraint light for the air bags kept coming on. consumer has not taken vehicle to the dealer .*ak

I have the known issue with my 2000 honda accord where the srs airbag light stays on. you can do a google search and see the widespread nature of this problem. honda says if the airbag light is on the airbag may not deploy in a accident and others have had the airbag go off while driving normally. when i call my dealer they pretend not to know anything and want tons of money to even check it out. i have the honda care extended warranty and the dealer won't even verify if the problem is covered or not. *jb

I have been to the honda dealer/service 4 times to fix a srs malfunction. today i went to the spirit honda service department because srs light was on. the assistant service advisor claimed the technician could find no hard problems,"which would result in the srs light turning on. he originally blamed me, but when questioned he retracted. then, charged $43 dollars for a problem, which he could not figure out. honda accord is under warranty for 5 more months. the cost for repair at that time will be overwhelming. as the srs problem has been a recurring . the consistent failure of the srs on 2000 honda accord coupe is a problem that should be investigated. the monetary loss, which i have incurred maybe due to a problem caused by the manufacturer. when i did a search on srs problems for honda accords i found i am not alone. there seems to be a significant portion of consumers who have an srs problem. it should be investigated by honda. *ak

After multiple resets, my srs light has been on for about 6 months.

Srs light remains on. side srs comes on in turns. dealer has stated that something in the seat needs to be replaced and we have no driver srs at this time. vehicle is under used certified warranty but dealer states this is not covered by warranty. we puchased a honda (have owned many!) because of reliability, durability and safety. does not federal law require srs on current model vehicles? how can such a company refuse to fix such a major problem>>>

My 2000 honda accord has its srs lights on again and will not go off. i brought it to my mechanic who put the car on the computer and said "theres a malfunction in my airbags, i have to go to honda" ($40.00). i brought the car to honda that same morning (9:30 am), informed them about my mechanic's response & that i commute a distance and don't feel safe driving the car, so they took it in. at 4:30 pm, they decided to put it on the computer and wow...there is a problem with my air bag system ($94.61). no accidents, nothing - it just came on while i was driving. honda told me "not to worry, that my airbag isn't just going to go off as i drive down the highway.....it just won't go off if you crash". real safety feature of the car. my diagnosis: code 9-3...drivers seat belt buckle failure (estimated cost to repair: $287.00 plus tax on top of the initial $94.00 i just gave them). this is 100% a safety issue and should absolutely be hondas responsibility. how can i be certain that they have not always been broken? this is totally ridiculous and i am appalled at honda's ignorance to this matter. *ak

Purchased new 2000 accord ex v-6, 4 dr-replaced transmission at 10,000 miles, then again around 55,000 miles. now on third transmission and wondering how long this one will last. also, now the srs light is on and they say the seat belt has to replaced, as well as now the alternator and tensioner are being repalced ($600 job!). based on some other complaints, it seems the two are related, as well as the alternator problems being a result of the transmission problems.

Srs sensor light on. *bf this was a recurring problem. (internal unit failure) *sc *jb

The srs airbag light came on at approximately 69,000 mi.the car was taken to dealer and no fault codes were found on the computer. i had the delphi alternator load tested and determined that could be the culprit. during this time, i also had both of my headlamps burned out within weeks of each other. i replaced the alternator with an aftermarket one and have not had any problems since. *ak

When traveling the red srs dashboard light went on. when we returned and took it to the mechanic who has serviced this verhicle, he said that he had received a safety notice regarding this manufacturer's defect. the air bag controller was defective and the dealer refused to repair it, stating it was past the warranty. the auto is a 2000 honda accord 4 door sedan. my mechanic said when this light is on the air bags will not function--which is very dangerous, and he recommended that i contact the dot. we had to have the part replaced, at a cost of $625.00. *ak
