1999 honda accord v-6 automatic transmission failed at 51,000 miles. this appears to be common for this model car. i believe honda should order a recall for this transmission or offer to extend the warranty from the current 36,000 miles. *la
Transmission failure on 1999 honda accord. honda will not extend warranty as they have on 2000-2001 models with same problem. see honda service bulletin 00-065 dated 8/22/00. someone is going to die when the transmission fails on the highway. *la

Transmission service on 1999 honda accord coupe with 38,000 miles. trans. downshifts roughly from second to first. first attempt to fix by dealer july 5, 2003. problem seemed to improve. returned to dealer october 2, 2003 when got worse. dealer replaced motor mounts it said were collapsed; charged me more than $400. transmission still downshifts roughly on occasion. request to dealer to refund portion of motor mount cost has received no response as of oct. 22 despite numerous calls and voice mails to customer service rep. dave kitchen, 310.783.3025. *la
Transmission failed at 73,000 miles
The transmission jumped and accelerated over 45 miles per hour. check engine light came on, and then i was told that i needed a new transmission.*ak
Reoccuring transmission problems. glad i bought the 100k warranty...changed once at 60k due to bearing failure...now at 75k the center between the back seats get very, very hot and starting to feel slipping...again. looks like another trip to the dealer for another transmission. i don't feel safe...especially when i commute 75 miles a day with a 13 month old baby.
Car pauses then surges forward wile accelerating at lower speeds due to defective transmission, problem is constant - happens everytime.*ak
have been having transmission problems and am seeing a trend to others having similar problems. the dealer quoted $8000 new or $3327 for used. i don't think we should be having transmission problems on a car that is 3 years old. anyone else having problems? *ph
I am having major problems with my transmission and it should not being a 1999.*ak
Consumer stated vehicle has only 67000 miles and the automatic transmission broke. dealer notified. *ak
I have 1999 honda accord coupe ex v6. my tranny went at 66'000 miles. from what i have read on the internet an excessive amount of people are having the same problems. i have called honda and they said there is no recall on 99 accord transmissions but there is an extension on 2000/2001 transmissions for 7 years 100'00 miles. i am very upset and hope there is a recall on these transmissions....or at least compensate for the $3000 i spent to pay for a new transmission. thank you
Experienced extremely hard shifting at 40 mph. the engine would rev, die down, and then suddenly jerk into gear. from day-one have expeienced ackward shift from 2-3. at time of each recommended service requested staff address issue. typical response that how car ws design. now at 52,000 miles need to replace transmission. honda of american is doing a 50/50 spilt of the cost to replace transmission. dealers price to repair was $5300. honda of america price approximately $2400 , half paid by consumer. *ak
Transmission failure at 46,000 (this was already reported to nhtsa). check engine light has come on again - this time it is the catalytic convertor and 02 sensors.*ak

The differential bearings on my transmission failed at 49k miles and damaged my transmission. i had my transmission rebuilt by a private company when honda told them that it was not under warranty. i was told by honda that they may have done helped if a dealer had done the work. *nlm
The automatic transmission on my 6 cylinder 1999 honda accord failed at around one hundred thousand miles even with scheduled fluid replacement. i was told by honda of america that 2000-2002 accords with the same problem were covered under an extended warranty but that my car did not meet the criteria. transmission had to be completely re-built at my expense.*ak
The transmission failed, due to a defect with the gear bearing. *jb *scc *jb
I purchased my 1999 honda accord ex-vl 3.0l v6... may 1999. there has been a slight jerk when the transmission shifted gears from day one. honda says this is normal. well several months ago it started to get worse and the transmission started leaking fluid at the left cv boot. i took it into the honda dealer and i was told that there is a roller bearing that is wearing out prematurely causing a slight vibration that causes the seal to leak. they said i needed a new transmission and it would cost $5,500 ++ to replace because it was no longer under warranty. (3 years or 30k miles) i have owned a honda for 17 years. i have a 1986 with over 250,000 miles and still going strong. i purchased this 1999 based on the hondas past history of quality. this may be the end of honda ownership for me if they don't replace this defective transmission.i have searched the internet and was overwhelmed at so many 1999 honda accords that have the same problem. i think honda should replace all of their defective transmission and save there good name. honda should extend the 1999 honda accord warranty to 7 years or100k to cover there defective product!hey did extended the 2000-2001... but not the 1999 ??? why... it's the very same transmission! *ak
I have a 1999 honda accord exv6 the transmission started slipping 3 months ago. i called my dealer at that time because i had received a letter nov 2001 from honda stating that there was a warrany extension for egr system clogging. the service advisor stated that this would not help my case. now at 70000 i need a new transmission.i bought this car after owning a toyota for 12 years w/ no problems. to say the least i am disgusted.
1999 honda accord ex v-6 transmission failure. i had been noticing acceleration problems. i thought the problem was with fuel injection. i was coming back from a weekend trip and the check engine light came. i took the car to the dealer the next day for the 75,000 mile service. they said it was the transmission. the next day it failed the transmission test. dealer said it would have to be replaced. i do not drive long distances and i do not feel safe in the car. *nlm
Transmission slips and lurches. requested dealer service and adjustment. fluids replaced, but no service performed. service manager evasive and mis-leading. made appointment for adjustment, fluid and filter change, dealer did just one. fluid was not burnt or discolored. problem persists. warranty extension should be ordered expanded to include 1999 model. *nlm
Today i have 88000 miles on my 1999 honda accord v6 coupe. i am currently on my third transmission. the first time, my car was driving very rough at around 23000 mi. every time i would accelerate, when my car shifted from first to second gear, the car would give a strong jerk, one that was strong enough to shake the coins in the coin holder. i took the car to honda and they told me it was ok, and they could not diagnose any problems. around 30000 miles, my transmission would not shift out of second gear. i took it back to honda and they replaced it with out any problem. later, around 60000 miles, my transmission lost all forward driving gears. keep in mind this is the second transmission. i had it towed to a gas station, and called honda, only to hear, the car is out of warranty. the decision was made to get the work done at the gas station. they acquired a new transmission from honda to be placed into my car. tonight, that transmission is now without first and third gears. the car wont shift either. the car needs to be placed in second gear, and shifted to third manually for it to function. if it is started in 1,d3,or d4 it will start in second gear and stay in it. i have 90000 mi on my car today. this seems to occur every 30000 mi or so.*jb
Transmission will not shift properly into gear, it was slow in shifting. when ever this happens, engine would rev up. *jb
Power train: automatic transmission - accord 1999 ex-v6 transmission shifts hard and sometimes it even slips (pauses when shifting gear). suspect the problem to be similar to model year 2000 and 2001, but no recall issued for 1999.
The transmission failed, which caused the vehicle not to accelerate.*jb
Consumer states transmission is defective. ph
The transmisson shifts hard. sometimes it even slips. it started doing it few months ago. right know my car has about 80000 miles on it. honda has a recall on 2000 but since it is a 1999 they are making a excuss. my older 91 accord was perfect till 250,000 miles . i guess with this kinda quality this will be my last honda ever.
Transmission making grinding noise and having trouble with gears and engine rpm. honda dealer admits it's transmission problem. milage is only 37500 miles on.very serious problem and public safety. should recall or extend warranty.
Vehicle drifts backwards while on incline. ts
Noticed lurching and trasnmission slipping. the car was having difficulty changing gears. next day i had car checked out was advised that transmission fluid was black( burnt) and the motor mount was also weak. the following day i took the car to ed voyles honda for my 45,000 mile/3 yr service. i was then advised by service advisor, jim vartiak, that large metal pieces came out when the trasnmission fluid was being drianed and was a sign of deterioration of the trasnmission. after my service on 10-28-02 i went to work. on my commute back, i heard a loud noise and then the check engine light came on while i was on the expressway. the vehicle was not accelerating well, the gears were not shifting. when i got to my destination i noticed that i was parked . when i put the car in reverse the engine had to be reved up to make the slightest move. it took several minutes to move three feet. the next morning, 10-30-02, the car was driving about 40 mph then sudddenly dropped to 10 mph during a busy hour approx. 7:30 am. at times the honda accord would not even move at all and then it would suddenly jot out. i made it home, but the car is completely immoble the transmission is gone. the worst part is there was no help offered for a resolution. i have made calls and also written to america honda motor co., inc, but i have not yet recieved any response from my. correspondence. dt
Transmissions slips and shifts roughly and inconsistently. warranty has been extended but only for '00 & '01 models. same faulty transmission standard with 1999 accords. it is only a matter of time before people start getting hit and do the hitting as shifting becomes unpredictable.
Consumer states that while driving at any speed and no warning the transmission will lock up and it will be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle and the consumer will be force to pull over. dealer notified. mr
Transmission differential failed, causing vehicle to produce a loud noise when driving. dealer notified. *ak
Consumer stated the transmission gears shifted hard, the dealer informed consumer of a potential transmission problem. ts *jb
Car was sluggish when backing up. would have to rev engine to get it to back up. dealer said transmission was gone and would have to be replaced. mr
There is a clunking sound and vibration in steering, the wheel definitely is not turning at the same speed as the others. this is a known problem with honda transmission yet no service bulliten can be found on the accord.honda is well aware of this problem but is still asking owners to pay for the cost to replace transmission with rebuild.*ak
While driving, the automatic transmission does not shift properly. dealer has been notified. *ak the vehicle sometimes shifts gears on its own without the changing of speeds. other times while accelerating into traffic (at a stop light or merging) the vehicle will slip into neutral and will redline but not shift into gear. *scc
99 accourd v6 transmission grinds, slips and clunks. all maint done within schedule. many units in similar situation. product is defective. recall done on 2000-2001, however 1999 is also widely effected by the problem as well.
The transmission was skipping second gear and would not reverse up a hill. less than one year ago transmission was doing the same thing, and had to be replaced.*ak a year later, the transmission was experiencing the same defect. consumer learned there was a recall for the 2000 and 2001 accords but not 1999. consumer reported both incidents to nhtsa in case there's a recall issued for his model year vehicle. *ph *nlm
Consumer states while in park the vehicle inadvertently jumped into reverse. causing a vehicle collision. manufacturer notified. feel free to provide any further information. nlm

My 1999 honda accord was at howdy honda on 6/26/2002 for trouble with hard, jerky shifting at 20 mph. was informed that the transmission fluid needed to be replaced but everything was alright. on 7/31/2002, experienced extremely hard shifting at 40 mph. the engine would rev, die down, and then suddenly jerk into gear. this continued to happen until taken to dealership on 8/2/2002. was informed at this time by same dealership (6/26/2002) that my transmission was damaged and needed to be replaced.*ak
