1999 honda accord ex coupe v6 (california) engine stalls immediately when blinker/signal lever is used, for left or right turn signal. when engine stalls, green "key" light flashes on dashboard. otherwise, failure happens randomly. failure has occurred both while driving at 60+ mph and while vehicle is stopped. at high speeds, engine stalls and then restarts in a few seconds. has not occurred when engine was cold/not-warmed-up. failure occurred about once a month at first, but in the last three months, averages about one failure a week. failure started happening at around 70,000 miles. car now has ~92,000 miles. car has had one owner since purchased new. car recieves regular scheduled maintenance. car had complete tune-up (oil/filter,spark plugs, ignition cap & rotor, ignition wires, transmission fluid (honda), air filter, fuel system cleaner, etc...) after first failure. alternator failed and was replaced many months after "stalling/blinker" failures first occurred, and had no apparent affect on stalling problem. stalling still occurs, and have no idea what cause is.

Problems with ignition switch on 1999 honda accord. *ph

Honda currently has a recall scheduled on their website for 1999 accords involving the ignition switch. this failure causes the car to quit while driving and/or not start properly. these have both happened to me, but honda will not do anything about it as my vin is not supposed to have a bad switch. my vehicle is acting exactly as described on the website. it has quit while driving two times and not started once. both times it quit i was driving in traffic. it started right up again. can anything be done to get my vehicle fixed under the recall. it is unreliable the way it is. *jb

Ignition interlock problem. key can be removed from ignition when car is in neutral or drive. recognized recall issue. my car is in affected 1999 model year, but not covered because it is not within vin range!! this should be covered under the recognized vehicle recall. honda refuses to honor this recall because not in vin range but lots of other cars in 99 model year have failed because of this. because of this car will roll if parked and key removed and car is not in park. interlock is supposed to prevent this from happening. dangerous! it has happened twice to me. *jb see odi 10054995. *dsy

Ignition interlock problem. key can be removed with car parked in neutral. car will roll if on a hill. very dangerous. this has been subject of a recall, but honda won't fix my car because it is not in their vin range. this should be repaired under the existing recall , but they refuse . *jb see odi 10054990. *dsy

I was driving my 1999 honda accord when my cd started skipping and then my abs dash light came on. i continued on the highway (a major interstate with heavy traffic) until my exit. when i slowed down at an approaching intersection, my car just died. absolutely everything quit...radio, ac,etc...car flashers would not work, i was stranded in heavy traffic without any way to let approaching traffic know i had car trouble. put my hood and trunk up and escaped my car. it was terrible...but would have been much worse if i had still been on i-285 which is a heavily trafficked artery around atlanta with multiple lanes and fast traffic. i got absolutely no warning that this would happen...no dash lights (i.e. battery indicator light) came on to let me know that my alternator had died. that is why the car quit as i slowed at the intersection...the battery had been drained completely. i have had nightmares about what would have happened to me had i still been on the interstate or had this occurred at night, and i do not feel safe knowing that this could happen again since i travel that busy highway every day! i think this is a major electrical defect. my car was repaired at carey paul honda in snellville ga and they assured me that i did not have an electrical problem...but, no indicator light came on at all! please investigate this. i will also contact honda of america about this problem. *jb

Driving down the road when the crankshaft pully fell out of the bottom of the engine, resulting in power steeering failure and engine died. the power steering went out, the altenator quit, the water pump quit. luckily i could coast into a parking lot entrance to get off of the highway.the crankshaft bolt "crystalized" and broke off inside the crankshaft. the timing belt, crankshaft pully and bolt, and the water pump had to be replaced. *ak

After owning the vehicle for two days it broke down on the highway. vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the battery and the alternator. on another occasion, the vehicle broke down due to an alternator bolt breaking. it was replaced. on a third occasion, the serpentine belt failed. currently, vehicle is at dealers shop again because it will not start.*ak *jb *nlm

My 1999 honda accord ex rolled backwards after i left it parked on a level surface. i was able to remove the keys from the ignition and lock the car even though the car was left in neutral. the car rolled back 15-20 feet and was stopped by some large bushes and small trees. i presented the vehicle to my honda dealer to inspect the car after the nhtsa recall was announced. the dealer declined to inspect the ignition interlock because honda would not authorize an inspection since car was not included in recall. i have spent roughly $100 to fix the punctured tail light cover (because trunk would flood when it rained). there was damage to the trunk, rear bumper, and side panels around the trunk. i would estimate the body damage repair costs between $1-2k. the ignition interlock has not been modified since the rollback incident. please note that incident mileage and incident date are estimated as i didn't think anything of the incident until i heard about the recall and learned of the federal safety standard.*ak see also odi 10094192. *dsy

I'm having problems with both the ignition and my door locks. i took my vehicle back for the recall, but i am still having problems with stalling, but moreso with the car attempting to turn off. i get flickering of all the indicator lights, and if i do not hit the gas pedal, the car shuts off completely. i also have an ongoing problem with my doors not locking from the driver's side. when i hit the lock button, all doors lock except mine. my alarm system (viper) has an automatic door lock feature but all the doors except the driver's door locks. these problems are ongoing, so it's impossible to give a correct incident date, so i'm giving the date it last happened.*ak

No parts available. recall on ignition switch. recall number unknown. *ak

Nhtsa# 02-v-120- 000: on certain sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, and sport utility vehicles, electrical contacts in the ignition switch can degrade due to the high electrical current passing through the switch when the vehicle is started. this recall failed in this vehicle. *ak

The starter blew apart after starting on 3/10/03. the bendix was in two pieces and lodged itself between the flywheel and motor. one piece was able to be removed, the second cannot be removed unless the transmission is removed. the dealer indicated this was a new occurrence and never before happened to their knowledge. the consumer service at honda did not seem too concerned that this had occurred and seemed unwilling to research this even though they also indicated that this was the first time. *jb
