Well a lot happened with this car. first the power steering pump went out. then the lifters had to be replaced at 54000 miles. then at 104000 miles the lifters are back making the same noise that it made the last time i took it to shop.the transmissions went out at 108000. got it replace. but the heads are still rattling. then there is the electric problem my windows want go up or down most of the time they said the motors or still good in them. they said that it need electric work that's why my gauges go crazy sometimes. then there are the struts and shocks that went out at 60000 miles. ever since i put my car in the shop at peilter chevrolet in lufkin texas i have had nothing but trouble. they fix a recall in the tire area on my car, and i think it wasn't done right. they didn't put my tire guards all the way back on its missing screws. they said that's the way it was i told them it wasn't hanging down when they got it. then when the replace my heads and i picked up my car. the black guard pieces that goes under the hood had screw setting on it. the where not put back in it. then there was a 2 bigger screw and the didn't know what they went to. i had more thing wrong when i got my car back from them then when i carried it to them. i researched gmc acadia and i realized that a lot of people had the same thing like lifters replacement, transmission replacement at around 90000 miles to 110000 miles, problems with there struts and shocks. power steering and much more. what i cant figure out is why hasn't there been recall on the transmission and heads or lifters, if everybody is having this much trouble out of these parts on the 2008 acadia's. we all pay good money for these vehicle's and to have this much trouble out of them there not worth what we pay for them we are getting cheated out of our hard earned money. that's the way i feel about it. *tr

My power steering is making a noise and at low speeds it is very hard to turn, seems like it has reverted back to manual steering. i am anxious that it may stop working as i am driving. taking it in for diagnosis on 04/10/14. i saw a recall on power steering issues with some makes with gm. this seems like the same problem. *tr

There is an intermittent loss of power steering causing complete loss of control of the vehicle. this is a common recurring problem on the gmc acadia class suvs. this has now happened at least three times while my wife was driving the car, all fortunately while she was driving a low speeds and able to stop before running off the road. the power steering seems to "come back" without reason as well. my dealer is telling me that i need to replace both the power steering pump and steering rack due to internal leaks caused by seal failures. this sounds like a manufacturing defect due to either design of the seals or incompatible steering fluid being installed at the factory that adversely affects the seals. here is a link to a consumer forum about the acadia - just put "power steering" in the search field and host of repeated problems will come up. http://www.acadiaforum.net/index.php. *tr

The transmission again is going out on it for the 3rd time. this last time there was snow on the road and when it kicks down because of the wave plate failing again this time i was going around a corner and it kicked down and made me slide off the road i was able to get out and almost hitting the guard rail

Three times in one day my acadia gmc 2008, steering refused to respond correctly. each of the tree times it refused to steer. car on no other time has shown this problem before now. but only purchased used car three months ago. this seems to be a common problem with car that is not being handled under a recall. steering box and power steering pump on car seem very underpowered. on the three times it happened on 3/20/2014 two where on highway driving conditions in which i was on an on ramp attempting to navigate a circle on ramp in which i almost had to stop car to prevent it from running off road do to lack of power on turn. on another i was attempting to perform a u-turn in which i almost hit a cub. u turn should have been easy do to the fact i had three lanes to perform the turn. in this case i came extremely close to curb and close to damaging car due to impact with 8 inch curb. all three events came on same trip! *tr

Car loses power steering intermittently at low speeds, such as in parking lots. the issue only last a few seconds, then returns to normal.

Locked up making a turn going slow, pump getting noisy, just got back for water pump replace. *tr

This is the 5th or 6th time that my steering has locked up while driving. i love my acadia, but it seems as if its falling apart. i'm scared to drive it because of the awful noise my steering is making. its hard to turn and at moments it just locks up why driving. i'm afraid of hurting my children, myself, or even worse others!!! this problem needs to be fixed. due to the numerous others that are experiencing the same problems, this is defiantly a manufacture default. *tr

So the window switches don"t work, when i'm trying to open the window it will open but then it won't close back, the steering wheel makes squeaking noises and most important the most costly thing to repair was the transmission. we purchased the car used with 53,000 miles on and after driving another 20,000 miles the transmission broke i had to pay out of my packet about 4,000 dollars for the repair i have two small children and when it comes for safety im not sure if we should keep the vehicle. when i'm reading all those recall issues i'm getting worried about my kids safety. *tr

Since the day i purchased my 2008 gmc acadia i have been having trouble with the power steering. when i start to turn the vehicle the power steering goes completely out. it continues to get worse daily. the first time i took it to gm they told me that it just needed power steering fluid. so they filled it up. this did nothing to correct the problem. i took it back for a second time, and gm said that they could find nothing wrong with the power steering. the power steering stops working and when making a turn it is almost impossible to make the turn. next, i took my acadia to a independent repair shop. they told me that the steering rack, or as gm calls it, the rack and pinion was cracked and needed to be replaced. i then spent around $800 to have the steering rack replaced. i began driving it hoping this would solve the problem but it did not fix the steering problem. i took the acadia back to gm, and they looked at it again. they told me the rack and pinion, or the steering rack was faulty. i told them about replacing it 3 months ago, and they told me that unless i had replaced both the steering rack and the pump at the same time then the part that was not replaced would cause the other part to fail. next, i took it back to the local repair shop and told them what gm had said. they looked at the steering rack that they had replaced and told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the new part they had replaced. they looked into the manuals and internet replacement guides for gm parts and could find nothing saying you had to replace both parts or the one that was not replaced would fail. the power steering continues to fail. it should be recalled.gm will do nothing unless i replace both parts. i guess i will have to wait until someone dies to get gm to take care of the problem and hold their company responsible for the faulty parts on the 2008 gmc acadia. *tr

At low speed, power steering seemed to go out while in parking lot. the steering became very difficult to manage with a loud clunking noise coming from the front end. shutting off and back on, steering returned to normal. took it in for service at gm dealership in evansville, in for diagnosis and response was that the power steering pump, fluid and steering rack needed to be replaced. investigation online turned up information that this is a relatively common occurrence but gm would not do anything about it as it was outside of warranty. *tr

For several week i have been having power steering problems with the gmc acadia. this particular vehicle had a "noisy" power steering since new and i brought this to the attention of the dealer on two occasions while under warranty. the serivce personal said that gmc was aware of issues but they did not have a "fix". the vehicle is extremly hard to turn a low speed as if the power steer is not functioning. my wife is not able to drive the vehicle due to the strength require to turn the wheel and i will not allow her to drive it with our children due to safety concerns. this past weekend i went off the road (over the curb) while turning into a subdivision since the steering seemed to "lock up". i have read numerous reports on the internet of the exact same problem. this is a known problem that gma is aware of but has not offer any recall or assistance to repair the power steering system. the cost of repair is nearly $2000.00. i feel that gmc should be required to fix this issues as it is major safety concern.

Steering piping and making noise. locking up. and loose gear box. hundreds of reviews online, no permanant fixes. gm not fixing multi car issues. many wrecks due to this, read the reviews. wife jumped a curb with kids in car, not her fault steering locked up, we replace everything dealer said still not working right. *tr

We bought our 2008 gmc acadia in january 2008. the battery died in july 2008 while vacationing in canada leaving us stranded. after it went dead several more times the dealership replaced it. the air conditioning went out several times in 2010 and we had to pay to have the ac recharged twice since. in july 2013 we had to have the transmission replaced when it stopped shifting into gear. our warranty had expired in january of that year. the dealership did get gm to pay half but it still cost us almost $2,000.00. now it is at the dealership again and we have to replace the entire steering column as it lost power steering at low speeds. we are having it repaired at an estimate of nearly $1,800.00 more. this vehicle cost about $36,000.00 in 2008. since then we have paid thousands of dollars just to keep it on the road and safe. this is a lemon and i would like to see a recall for both the transmission and loss of steering at low speeds. i see that both of these are common problems with this vehicle. i would like to be reimbursed for our expenses. *js

Problem #1 of 3: during heavy rains, water would leak in through the sun visors on both sides. took it to the dealership several times. they said the drain tubes from the sunroof were clogged, they blew it out, when that didn't work, they charged me to put it longer tubes, when that didn't work, they said it was because they only replaced the front tubes, not the back. problem #2 of 3: when driving through water puddles at low speed i lose power steering for a brief time (which is troublesome when turning). problem #3 of 3: two warning lights for airbags come on everytime i start the vehicle. i can push a button each time to make the written warning go away, but the red light with a picture stays on. not sure if the airbags would deploy or not. *tr

About a week ago my family and i were driving home from vacation and had been on the road for about 3.5 hours. as we pulled out of a driveway about 5 minutes from our home the car engine light came one, the car would not gain speed like normal and it began to over heat rapidly. we took side roads and slowly crawled home. i took it into the shop the next day and it came back with a crack in the radiator and codes p0700 and p07016, which they confirmed to be a transmission issue and suggested to have a specialist look at it. i did some research and found that this are common codes that come back for the 2007 and 2008 acadia's that require a rebuild/replaced transmission with an average cost of $4000. this is a known issue with gmc for many years and they have yet to acknowledge it. i am very lucky to not have had a worse incident in discovering this issue, but i am very concerned that at any moment the transmission will go out, and we do not have $4000 to drop into a new one, especially when i just spent $650 on a new radiator. these are not problems that a reliable car, the 2008 acadia, under 100,000 miles should be having. gmc needs to own up to these issues and take action to correct it before something more serious happens. *tr

Power steering intermittently will not work.. pulled into parking spot and the veh started a loud screaching sound for several minutes. again while traveling down the road the steering completely cuts out. in may of 2013 the power sterring rack was reported to me that it was leaking ( while in the dealer for transmission replacement ). the gmc dealer, serra gmc in washington , mi., replaced the steering rack and charged us for the new rack. a few weeks later the power steering began to cut out while driving. we took veh in for service and paid for a diagnostic of the problem and we were told that they could not duplicate the power steering issue.. but said it was probrably the steering pump.in addition we were told the timing chain cover was leaking oil and the timing chain would need replacing. they got gm to pay a portion of the repair. they wanted over $700 to replace the power sterring pump but would not gaurantee that would fix the problem. this is crazy we just paid to have the steering rack replaced and a portion of the transmission replacement and now the steering pump. the veh currently has less than 79,000 miles. i really feel this is an unsafe condition that nhtsa needs to look into. my daughter ( who is 15 years old ) is currently a "learning driver" who drives this veh ( with a licensed driver in the veh) as part of her logged driving time. i'm concerned that the steering will fail while she is driving. gm would be liable for any damage and injuries if the steering fails while she is behind the wheel. ..

We purchased our 2008 acadia in 2011, it had approximately 30,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. less than thirty days after purchase we had to replace the front rotors. at 40,000 miles we had to replace the front brakes; the air conditioner backed up, which required maintenance to the blower motor; and the head lights went out, which required replacement. at 45,000 miles the rear struts went out, which required replacement; and we had to replace two tires. at 60,000 miles the water pump went out and needed to be replaced. at 55,000 miles the front struts went out, which needed replacing, along with four new tires, and a new set of headlights. at 60,000 miles the rear brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. at 70,000 miles the transmission went out, which also required replacement. the final incident happened on 6/10/13 at 74,000 miles, while i was driving with all three of my children. i was going 50 miles an hour on a highway, and the entire car shut down. the steering console locked with the keys in the ignition, i had no ability to steer the vehicle, the brakes did not function either. i had to use the parking brake to slow the vehicle down, barely avoiding a collision with another vehicle.

Steering column makes a grinding noise when you turn in either direction. dealer says the rack & pinion is leaking. *tr

2008 gmc acadia- steering problems!!- 65,000 started noticing power steering loss when slow turning sometimes...off and on...then got more often and much worse...replaced rack ($300).....problem still not fixed...next trying to replace power steering pump ($$ yet to find out)...recall on headlight- socket melted and replaced....airbag light continues to come off and on...traction control, stability track, and airbag light come off and on randomly. no sound...took to gmc dealership, they told us it was the radio. replaced radio($450), still didn't work. dealership stated amp blew and needed new amp ($400)...thought it was the amp the entire time due to the cd player working visually, but no sound in entire vehicle for any electronic feature. shifting randomly when going down highway. gas mileage horrible-- about 14 to 14 .5mpg-- much worse than when we first got it at 48,000...love the look and when it works....why is there no recall will the power steering?? come on gmc step up and do the right thing already!!! *tr

While attempting to maneuver out of a parking space, my wheels locked up. still thinking the wheel had turned enough, i attempted to clear a cement bea, however the car rolled into it. i was told that the tire had detached from the car "rod under the car" which prevented me from turning. *tr

Transmission started slipping. i would pull out onto a street and it would slip and i almost got his by a car. i took it in repeatedly to dealer and they couldn't duplicate and after repeatedly taking it back and them keeping it for a month they finally replaced the transmission. repeated steering issues. i took it in constantly and was told nothing wrong but after looking at it myself i found melted bushing and after being told all that had been replaced already. steering problems from day 1. 4 times of having power steering replaced and steering column and every time i got the vehicle back the vibration was worse, today i found the problem on my own. the rack and pinion has a major leak. not sure how repeated trips to the dealership and they couldn't see this. my steering also locks up while driving almost hit a car..and the dealership never has loaners so im stuck driving an unsafe vehicle while i wait because i was told i can only go where i bought my vehicle because of the extended warranty. this vehicle goes in to the shop and as soon as it is picked up it needs to go right back the same day. worst vehicle and most unsafe of anything i've ever owned. *tr

My wife was driving the vehicle and approached a stop sign. once she tried going again the car would not accelerate and we had to tow it to the dealer. they said the transmission went out @ 68,000 miles? also the waterpump, powersteering pump. master cylinder, as well as something with an air bag connector. the air bag connector has been going on and off for the last two years since we bought it two years ago as a gm certified pre-owned vehicle. i am not sure how this vehicle has not been recalled. *tr

Parts inside the power steering pump destroyed causing metal filings in the power steering fluid. the filings caused the the rack and pinion system to fail resulting in a complete loss of power steering.the vehicle became extremely hard to steer and is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed! there is no recall on this and undoubtably will result in fatalities.research i have done says this is a common problem. please take action! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph attempting to make a turn, an abnormal noise emitted from the steering wheel. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle has not been repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the steering wheel seized an abnormal noise sounded from the steering unit. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the electronic power steering module and the rods within the steering column needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 16,000.

Transmission started failing and finally went out at 108,000 miles, sitting in our driveway and we had to have it towed to dealer. gm dealer replaced it under warranty but the labor cost us several thousand dollars. now at 170,000 miles, this remanufactured transmission is now going out. it sticks in low speed and then overheats driving 65mph in 40deg weather. the dealer claims that a stretched timing chain has to be fixed first, before the transmission, at a cost of $1944. they also said the on board computer didn't store the numerous overheated transmission events that began occurring immediately after the remanufactured transmission was installed at 108,000 miles. the gm dealer is trying to tell me that the transmission is probably ok and that the overheating is due to some other reason, but he then couldn't even guess at what the other reasons might be! the fluid level is good, and the vehicle has a tow package with a cooler for the transmission fluid. gm dealer said the transmission will be covered by warranty, which will likely mean another several thousand dollar labor charge on top of the so called stretched timing chain cost of $1,900. the power steering pump has been whining for about a year and is getting loud. the navigation and dvd player system failed twice. might be time to trade the vehicle for something more reliable. my wife is getting scared to drive it too far and end up being broken down in atlanta traffic...very dangerous. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that when attempting to complete a sharp turn at low speeds, the power steering assist failed. the failure recurred frequently. the contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated intermittenlty. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing and the dealer stated that the power steering pump was failing. there was also a defect found in the air bag but the exact part was unknown. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and they advised the contact that they would assist with partial repair costs. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 65,000. the current mileage was 75,000.

Gmc says powersteering rack is cracked in my truck. they told me that because my truck is an "older" model that does not have the redesigned steering assembly in it, my truck repairs are not covered under the 100,000 mile warranty. they also acknowledge this is a common problem with the 2008-2009 acadia models and all the problems seem to happen right around the 50k mile marker, but no recall has been issued. i've visited countless websites and read hundreds of comments from people with the same exact problem i'm having yet gmc refuses to correct what is clearly a mistake on their part in the design of their vehicle. i've also read comments from people who had the scary result of total powersteering loss as a result of this issue. there is no doubt in my mind if i lost powersteering in my truck while driving i would crash with my two kids in the backseat. after many different phone calls within the gmc corporation, i was basically told this is not their problem and there would be no further communication to me at all. when i stated that i would be looking into other avenues to file a complaint, i was told that because i was considering filing a complaint, my case is now closed and the guy hung up on me. i am beyond frustrated with gmc. i love my truck, but do not have the money to fix this issue and i don't feel i should have to fix their safety defect. i'd love to speak to someone about how to get this changed so either the warranty picks it up or a recall is issued. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while making a turn at 25 mph, the steering failed. the vehicle was merged to the shoulder and restarted then operated as normal. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 84,400.

In the winter of 2012, the steering started to get more difficult while parking and backing out of spaces. it whined a bit. service at collection auto told me to replace the position sensor. no change. the steering got worse, fluid began leaking, and i was involved in two near crashes with young children in the car. one the power steering went out upon entering a freeway ramp. it returned to normal after about 10 seconds. it then again happened, but total steering failure while turning into a shopping center across oncoming traffic. the car had to be towed. we took it back and were told that the pump and rack and pinion needed to be replaced. after a good deal of digging and speaking with several dealers other than the one that recommended the change for pump and rack and pinion, we found out that there was no need to replace the position sensor and there were several service bulletins to dealers to replace these with redesigned parts dating to 2012. it currently is at a dealer who is working with gm to fix the problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, he heard a loud pop from the steering column. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis where they advised him that the rack and pinion failed and needed to be replaced. the rack and pinion, steering shaft and the steering column were replaced. the manufacturer was contacted and offered financial assistance with the repairs. the failure mileage was approximately 21,015. the current mileage was approximately 21,150. updated 01/29/13*lj updated 01/30/2013 *js

The power steering stopped working while driving and i had to complete emergency maneuvers to get the car off of the road. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. while driving various speeds, the contact could hear a clicking noise near the steering column and the power steering failed. the dealer stated that the steering column needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

Power steering is failing, this a wide spread problem across the entire gm "lambda" platform and should warrant a recall. affected parts are the power steering pump and steering rack, cause of the problem according to gm was use of incorrect fluid from the factory. the fix is to replace the pump and the rack ($2,000) and upgrade the fluid to dextron vi. for gm to expect out of warranty customers to be on the hook for the high cost of this repair is completely unfair and unacceptable. *tr

On the first occurrence i was starting to accelerate to about 20 mph after being stopped at a red light and my power steering went out and i could not accelerate. i was barely able to steer my car off the highway and just missed hitting a tree and going in a ditch and my 2 children were in the back seat. i had the vehicle towed to the local dealership but there were no error codes showing on their computer. i have since had this happen 4 more times and the last time almost ended in a head-on collision with my children in the car. i had the car towed again for the 5th time to the dealership and the power steering finally went out on them while they were test driving my car. however, the computer still did not show any error codes after this happened. as of today, which is 3 weeks later, i still do not have my car and the dealership doesn't know what to do because there are no error codes eventhough the power steering keeps failing on them. i am frustrated and aggravated and after reading online at how many other drivers have experienced this exact same issue i am disgusted that gm has done absolutely nothing to fix this serious issue. *tr

Tl* the contact towns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph attempting to make a turn, the steering wheel became almost impossible to maneuver. the problem recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician stated that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. also, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who agreed that the power steering pump needed to be replaced and stated that a hose that was connected to the rack and pinion and steering pump may have collapsed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and the approximately was 68,000. the vin was unavailable.

I have been very disappointed with my vehicle! when i was in the market for a new vehicle i new i wanted the acadia. i have been a long time customer at my local dealership and when i arrived at the lot they had just brought in a 2008 that had one owner. i was ecstatic because it was everything i could want and not as expensive as a 2012. when i first started driving it was great i loved it! i bought the car with 8,000 or so miles on it and as time went on i started to notice that it wasn't driving like it did the first day i bought it. i drive to and from work 5 days week roughly 35 miles a day. i was in town at the bank and as i started to pull out into the lane my rpm's went sky high and wouldn't come back down and i could not accelerate. i was so scared i pulled over in the next available spot and turned off the car. i waited for 5 minutes, turned it back on and proceeded to pull into traffic. ever since that day my car has been in the shop twice for transmission issues. i currently have 29,000 miles on the car and it drives like crap! i have it aligned, tires rotated, and i cannot get a smooth ride. the steering wheel shimmies over 50 mph, shimmies when i hit the breaks, my heater doesn't seem to work well unless it is on 85 way too hot. i now have to take the car back into the shop yet again for the same thing transmission failure, alignment off, and who knows what else. i read a lot reviews on this model and seems as though we have all experienced the same issues. i have been a long time pontiac/gmc buyer and i am very disappointed in gm for not taking this transmission thing serious. how many more complaints do you need to receive before something is done? fatal accident? in which case i hope it isn't me but also nobody else. please fix this issue it has been a thorn for some time and it's about time that gm do something about it! *tr

Driving vehicle at 30mph north bound. started making right turn (steering became very difficult) loss of power steering. *tr

Power steering will stop working for several seconds during turns especially at slow speeds or when turning in or out of parking spaces. very difficult to steer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the steering wheel failed and became hard turn when parking or when turning at low speeds. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who flushed the power steering lines. the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for further inspection. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 77,700 and the current mileage was 104,000. updated 11/19/13*lj the consumer stated that the wave plate and timing chain were both replaced under warranty. the steering gear box pump was not covered under warranty. updated 12/2/2013 *js

The first time the power steering went out on this vehicle, we were attempting to make a left hand turn from a busy road crossing on-coming traffic. the immediate loss of power steering required me to use all of my arm strength to manually turn the wheel, forcing me to make an extremely wide turn onto a side street. power steering has since come and gone at speeds lower than 25 mph when making turns. we have taken this vehicle to our gmc dealership three times for diagnosis and expensive repairs. despite these repeated trips and repairs to fix the problem, the power steering still goes out or is stiff. dealership blames gm and the design of the 2008 acadia's power steering system. *tr

At approx. 64,860 power steering started making a whining noise that kept getting louder and louder. *tr

Car will not shut off after removing key from ignition takes a minute for car to shut off car would not start next morning intrunent panel shows multipal problems have read online consumers with same problems who is responsible for this issue.need help have had vehicle fpr three weeks was not told by dealer abought problems with electrical have printed all other complaints on line and will show to dealer i would hope that gmc does not approve with these actions.also have problem with sreering it makes a loud clunking sound when turning steering wheel this coul be a serious safety issue to my family. *tt

The steering started making grinding noise when i turn it to the left or right at the around 38000 miles on the car. i contacted gmc dealer they didn't care about it. and i can see on the acadia forums that thousands of people have the same problem. i'm afraid of steering wheel being stuck and i have my family in the car. gmc has to recall for this problem before lives are lost. why do we always have to act after people are dead. is there anyone in the government that actually care about us. gmc knows this car has a problem but does nothing about it. this is stupid. *tr

On multiple occasions, after driving through puddles or in wet weather, the power steering stops working making it extremely difficult to steer, nearly causing a crash. this has happened on multiple occasions. *js

Our vehicle has had the air bag service light on for a very long time, when we got the recall notice, we took it in to the dealership and they stated that our vehicle was fine and our light was caused by a different problem. as time has gone by, it has done the rest of the items listed on the recall such as on/off light remaining off with a passenger in the seat and now it actually flashes back and forth with or without a passenger. our power steering has been making a whine sound since 2009. it has only worsened over time and now has depreciated our vehicles value for a trade-in. we are completely dissatified with the quality of vehicle we have gotten. i would not recommend an acadia based on the reliability of gmc and the lack of responsibility to fix problems that are obviously on the manufacturing end. we know several others having the same problem with 2008 acadia and have found many forums of people discussing their issues and it appears that the 2008 has the greatest amount of issues. we have been advised to seek legal action. *js

I was turning onto a four lane road from stop light with my 4 yr. old little girl . the acadia lost power and the steering wheel locked , and could not turn at all . stuck broadside in two directions of oncoming traffic ! cars where veering around us ! hazard lights do not work very well when you are stuck broadside , and they cant see them ! lights were coming on and messages were saying check engine ! after around a minute and a half everything worked as if nothing happened . dangerous , something should be done ! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. while accelerating from a stop sign and making a left turn, the power steering failed. the contact crashed into a tree. there were no warning indicators illuminated, but a recurring noise could be heard in the vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired for the power steering failure. the front end damage was repaired. several times prior to the crash, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering pump needed replacement. the power steering pump was replaced. the driver was not injured and a police report was not filed. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 56,155. updated 01/06/17*lj updated 7/5/18*jb the consumer stated safety defect was repaired. *tr

Apparently the entire line up of gm crossovers (acadia, enclave, and traverse) 2007-2010 are affected by a power steering problem. mine has a whine in the power steering pump. it is possibly the pump, or the rack and pinion. the dealer quoted me $450-$1000 to repair. i know that they have improved the power steering pumps on these vehicles, which indicates to me that the original was defective. i feel like steering is a part of safely driving these vehicles. if the power steering goes out while i am driving our acadia, i might be able to handle it, but if my wife were driving it, the outcome may be very different. *tr
