We have classified the 122 complaints from 2008 GMC Acadia about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I've had my gmc acadia for about 4 years now. i initially (within 30 days of purchase) had issues with the window motor because my windows weren't going up when pressing the buttons on either side up front. carmax fixed the issue. well, i'm still having the same problem today except the passenger side button works occasionally to roll up the front window. the driver side button works fine for the driver side window and both of the rear windows. it doesn't work to roll up the front passenger side window. this happens whether my vehicle is parked or in motion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. when the contact opened any of the vehicle doors, the interior lighting flickered on and off. also, while driving various speeds, the stabilitrak and service brake system warning indicators illuminated intermittently. the contact also mentioned that an obd code reader discovered that the passenger air bags were defective. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the contact associated nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v118000 (air bags) and 10v240000 (electrical system) with the failures. the failure mileage was 156,000.
My car has been leaking inside due to manufacturer defect with the seal of the windshield and in top and causing electrical issues for car one example transmission control module and etc
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. when the vehicle was started, the seat belt and service air bag indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to schumacher buick gmc of north palm beach (561-282-1957, located at 3720 northlake blvd ste c, lake park, fl 33403) where it was diagnosed that the sensor in the seat needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. after turning the ignition switch to the off position, the engine would not immediately shut off. also, the vehicle would not immediately start when turning the ignition switch to the on position. the contact stated that the battery continued to lose power after turning the vehicle off and water leaked into the cabin of the vehicle. the cause of the failures was not determined. the manufacturer and highly buick gmc (3535 west loop 820 south, fort worth, tx) were notified of the failures, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 115,000.
The sunroof leaks in the front driver seat, passenger, and water comes out of the air vents in the back seat as well as the dvd player and air bags. the battery will not hold a charge and now with a new battery the car stalls when trying to start it. the car was parked in my driveway. the water leak happened in december 2018.
Takata recall it keeps shutting completely down in the middle of highway and this affects everything steering, complete loss of power to vehicle. no codes to indicate something is wrong !!!! extremely dangerous this has continued to occur even after parts have been replaced brand new. more than 5 times already. this will most certainly lead to death. i have 3 children with me at all times. that's 4 lives that could be lost because of this problem!!!! . we have been extremely lucky because it has shift down in the middle of the night and bridges where there is nowhere to get on the side but remain in the lanes where traffic is 70 mph and up!!!! this needs to be recalled immediately!!!! *tr
This has been the most unsafe car i have ever owned. i can not even trade it in the get a safer car. we have come so close to having many accidents with this car. the steering just freezes up the engine will just shut down will driving. we have had the transmission replaced once and not it needs replaced again. we are not hard on our cars..i just hope it does not come down to having a accident before someone sees how bad this car is.. this happens off and on all the time hard to put the dates and times down when this happens, we take into a dealer and it does not happen with them or the cost is just crazy.
The vehicle is having issues with transmission, there is a recall on other vehicles of the same make and model in a large range of years. the recall is a transmission solenoid. however because under the vin number it does not show there is a recall this will not be fixed free by dealership. this is very dangerous because it happens randomly while driving.
The vehicle turns off abruptly while driving. the vehicle as turned off in a parked-idling position, rolling at five mph, and even between 60-70 mph. most of the time when the car shuts down, you are not able to restart the car without removing the key out of the ignition and inserting it to the on position cycling that motion four to five times. i have researched and spoken to other owners with the same make, model, and year as i have and they are dealing with the same issue. i am certain i am not the only complaint regarding this issue. i am worried about the safety for my family and myself because as mentioned before, this happens at random. this is copied and pasted from a previous post because i have the exact same issue. no accident so far because i was able to get off highway safely while car stalled at 70 mph.
My 2008 gmc acadia began displaying service air bag and turning off the passenger airbag intermittently when a passenger was in the front passenger seat due to the wiring harness under the passenger seat. after a few months it now stays on all the time. gmc said it's not under a recall but i have read several complaints about it with the same year make and model stating it's a recall this happens when in motion and while stoped
This is the worst viechle we have every bought. you name it an it has gone wrong. transmission twice, timing, power steering, tailgate, we have never pulled anything with our car. when it rains the steering locks up.. one minute we are going 70 and bam the car turns off. i can keep going. gmc pretty much just said oh well. this have happened so many times i lost track.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact noticed water leaking into the vehicle from the windshield and sun roof, which caused the radio, wiper blades, and turn signals to fail. the contact mentioned that the battery was moist due to the water. the vehicle was taken to mauer buick gmc (1111 mn-110, inver grove heights, mn 55077), but was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fee. the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the radio amplifier needed to be replaced; however, the cause of the leak was not determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 164,000.
This car came with a 30 day and/or 1000 miles warranty. within a week pass the warranty it started. the radio illumination started to go out we would have to tap on it to get it to turn on so we could see the time etc. then it would not come back on at all and all chimes went away., stopped working altogether. no turn single indicator, seat belts, back up warning, door ajar etc. the passenger side air bag indicator would say no one when someone was sitting in it and while driving blink between the two. also air bag needs maintance indictor in dash will flash while driving. park assistant on and off will flash while driving. the steering will move in itself while driving and around bends/turns in the road and worsening on highway! to the point i do not take my children on. there is also a faint burn smell around front floor.i decided to take it to the local advanced auto parts store and have them hook it up to see why i lost my radio, steering etc. they tell me that it was a dead battery cell and that my battery is located in the floor of this vehicle behind the passenger seat. by the way this vehicle does not have a sunroof all the windows go up tight as well. i called my mechanic who i've known for years my family has went to him as well and asked him to assist me in the battery issue. so we get there he opens the floor behind my seat and we discovered the battery is underwater dark sludgy water! the battery is replaced after a very unprofessional and disrespectful experience with this particular establishment by now i am at my wits end. i've exhausted all efforts with them! i paid to have a gmc certified mechanic run diagnostic on these issues at hand and to my thinking they determined to be flood and/or water damage and would need further diagnostics. however puzzling the vin is clean and no recent or active recalls. i am barely into this contract 3 months!

Lift gate begins to open and starts going back down 3/4 of the way. causing heads/faces to be hit by lift gate with no warning.
When it rains, water gets into circuit box and shorts out electrical system. vehicle will not start. when vehicle is jumped, vehicle's performance is very poor, check engine light remains on. i was informed this could be the results of sunroof drainage tubes not working and causing water to leak into the vehicle from the "a" posts. this has happened whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion.
What's not wrong with this car?? i bought it used with an extended warranty. after a year everything went downhill. it has been in and out the gmc service at lease 3 times a year. i don't even know where to start. the airbag light is on but it isn't covered under the airbag recall. what about safety? there has been a check stability trac and traction lights on as well on several occasions. when those lights come on the vehicle decelerated while driving across the kentucky bridge which almost caused a 12 car pile up. in addition, it also skips gears. when trying to speed up it jerks into the next gear like a hiccup. the dealership stated these problems were electric and wear covered under my extended warranty. i suggested that maybe the transmission was bad. however, they stated otherwise. literally, 4 months later the transmission is out. but what a surprise no longer under warranty. now i'm looking at a $5,000 bill. the service department stated that it is transmission failure due to an electric issue (out of my control). there is nothing that i could have done to prevent it from happening. but after talking to gm they, basically explained that they don't stand by their product after 100,000 and that they can't prove that the issues are actually manufacturers defect. i strongly disagree as there are hundreds of people experiencing the same hardships as me with the 2008 vehicle. on [xxx], for gmc acadia, 2008 is the worst year with the most complaints for transmission failure. how aren't these already recalled by now? they are nothing but junk! not work anything. even a gmc service rep. said these were the worse year and get them in the shop all the time. why won't gmc just isssue a recall and take them off the market. i have all the proof of regular maintenance and service receipts. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
We have a 2008 gmc acadia that now has approximately 164,000 miles. it was recently found out that a water leak has caused the airbag system to be come completely disabled. water leaks in these model vehicles are a known issue and gm has put out technical service bulletins about these leaks and how to fix them. because our vehicle is over the mileage limit the local dealership is saying gm will not warranty the leak repair or the damage to the airbag system from the leak. we are now faced with a bill of $1600 to repair the airbag system and unknown amount to repair the water leak and any other damage caused by it to the vehicle. what i do not understand is why a leaking sunroof with admitted factory defect issues from the manufacture has a mileage limit for warranty repairs. i can understand a time limit. this issue has now made our vehicle completely unsafe for my family to drive and ride in.
I hear water swishing around in the ceiling, however nothing seems to be wet. the sunroof is always closed. twenty minutes into the drive to work, the emergency brake light on the dash board came on while i was driving on the highway (even though the brake was not engaged).... the dash brake light and chime sound continued until i reached my destination. when i finally stopped and turn the car off and on...both had stopped. after completing my work day, i started the car again and the emergency brake dash light came on again...the brake was not engaged....i turned the car off and restarted...then it went away. i still here water in the roof when i turn corners.
This car has leaked since the day i bought it. i have taken it to the dealership i bought it from multiple times. the last time they looked at it they told me that there was a leak but they could not find where it was. my amp has shorted out due to all the water and i can imagine what's next. i am so scared to drive my car because of what could go out next. i wish gmc would do something about all of our issues with the same water leak! i am getting pretty tired of getting rained on inside my car.
During times of heavy rain or when driving through a car wash, water enters vehicle interior. water can be heard moving around in headliner of rear while vehicle being driven. with vehicle in motion water can be seen leaking out of air bag label on driver side panel between windshield and door. inspected drain tubes from sunroof and found them to be completely clogged. upon clearing debris clogging the tubes an exessive amount of water came shooting out and tubes drained for about an hour a non stop stream. approximately a week or so later, started having problems starting vehicle. tested battery and it was fine. tested alternator and starter, both fine. two weeks later car wouldn't start again. upon aaa arriving to jump my vehicle we discovered the entire battery compartment behind passenger seat was completely filled and battery submerged in water. further inspection found entire floor board saturated and headliner. mold was also found on seats, seat belts, carpet, air vents, sun visors, and door panels.
When it rains, water leaks from the air bags. water also leaks from the light fixtures and dvd player in the middle seating. water also comes in somewhere under the dashboard/electrical panel area, onto the passenger side floor. the last time it rained, there was standing water on my passenger side floor. this has happened while driving it in the rain and while it was parked. stablitrak and traction control lights are constantly coming on - even after looked at. - i have pictures of lights on. also constant service engine soon light problems. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. while the vehicle was stationary, rain water entered into the cabin, which caused some electrical failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 115,000.
Front sunroof leaks and fills up floorboards with water. known issue with sunroof drains clogging and poorly sealed sunroof design. floorboards hold electrical equipment.
I have an airbag warning light on and and a message on the display. took to dealer and the said they already performed the recall that was on the vehicle and wanted to charge me $675 to open up the dash and see what is wrong. the code that comes up is too high resistance in airbag system. i am filing this complaint for two reasons, one is how do i know they actually performed the procedure in the first place and,two can't it be defective again. my concern is safety in nature that my airbag won't open in an accident.
Daytime running lights bulbs repeatedly burned out and now the wire harness has melted down. fuse failed to trip. damage has now been caused to the entire drl assembly (melting, see photo). additionally i am concerned that whatever caused the bulb and wiring to melt will cause a vehicle fire and endanger my family. there are many cases of the drl bulb and harness melting, but my local gm dealer said there was no recall when i called to discuss the issue. gm/saturn released a letter authorizing paid repairs, that was valid from 2011-2013, but these vehicles are still on the road, and it needs to be a recall regardless of warranty status. the replacement parts have been recalled--gm knows there is an issue with these components.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. when the contact attempted to open the sun roof compartment, it was filled with water which affected the radio, turn signal volume, and radio. in addition, the electrical components that ran from the door into the side wall of all four doors, were filled with water. the vehicle also failed to start. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the blowing amplifier and battery failed and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 108,153.
I just replaced my left side low beam light for the second time in the past 12 months. when i pulled out the old bulb, it looked burnt on the tip of instead of the first time i treplaced it a year ago when the wires became loose and burnt out like a typical light bulb. today is the second time within a week that the speakers went out and there was no sound coming out at all. the main fuse is good and i drained the water from the connectors on all the doors. there seems to be a shortage somewhere in the system because it would take 5-10 minutes for the sound to come back on. does anyone know any solutions to fix this problem diy instead of taking it to the dealer?
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the brake warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake fluid was leaking into the power buster. the vehicle was repaired. in addition, the contact stated that water was leaking down from the sun roof into the electrical fuse box, causing corrosion and the vehicle would failed to turn off. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the water leaking into the fuse box was causing the vehicle not to turn off due to the corrosion. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 62,000. updated 06/29/16*lj updated 08/02/16.*jb
I own a 2008 gmc acadia i have had it used since jan 2015 i have had it in dealership almost every 3 months since i bought it. i was recently driving and had a fire in the passenger heated seat where my daughter was sitting and it burned a small hole in her jeans so far gmc is checking to see if its a defective equipment failure or not? in the mean time my sunroof has quit working and now my roof is leaking and my car smells like mold. the whole electrical system is going crazy with flashes of interior lights. i also had the vehicle stop on me in the middle of parking and found out the power steering pump needed to be replaced. they need to have a recall on these vehicles because our children ride with us and they are unsafe especially now that her jeans are burned and she has a small pink spot from the heated seat. the dealership told me today likely the seat wont be replaced and if its not i will be contacting me a lawyer. my children s safety come first. hopefully the will also do a recall on the electrical equipment and the sunroof leaking because our vehicles are not safe after water gets onto all the electrical devices and shorts out and may cause a fire next.
2008 gmc acadia is taking on water. heater blower stopped working. later, key locked in the ignition. found the fuse block had been damaged by water leaking from the sunroof. drain hoses were not plugged. called gmc and was told my vin not covered under recall.
Electrical system is completely dead. key cannot be removed from ignition. this happened earlier today for a short time. electrical did come back on allowing the vehicle to be driven home. when shut off, vehicle's electrical system is totally dead. shifter cannot be taken out of park. key cannot be removed. this vehicle has had previous issues with water from sun roof leaking into cabin, possibly contributing. transmission recently repaired. internal switch module replaced. audio amp recently replaced, totally inop.
I have had service air bag lights come on all the time along with service stabletrack and and i think something with the fuel when i get gas it makes weird sounds and won't start without pumping the gas to get it started.
The airbag on/off lights would both light up at the same time so you didn't know if it was functioning properly. the warning "service airbag" came on. this was while driving any speed, any type road, also while the car was in park. key would not come out of ignition, the engine would turn off but electrical would still be working. also the power saver mode kicked in and we had to have the vehicle jumped.
My 2008 gmc acadia leaks when it rains, the floor boards fill with water & water comes through the interior lights causing them to shorten, blink. the power windows got stuck wouldn't go down almost smashed my kids hand. the worse part driving on interstate at 65-70 traffic slows to 40 and your vehicle doesn't go almost causing the worse accident ever. seems this wave plate, shift solenoid is a manufacturer defect especially since i was only a few months after initial purchase and the truck was returned to dealer for same issue so that means the transmission they replaced the bad one with was so bad or reached its time out mileage. this should be a recall if it happened shortly after purchase (purchased used) then it happens again with the replacement transmission and all the threads in have read every owner is experiencing this, someone will have bad accident possibly death. does death have to occur for us to get better resolve and make gmc take care of this. over $5,000 was tough to christmas time
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the ignition switch failed to release the key. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuse box corroded the entire electrical system. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, the sun roof leaked water. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired. the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 124,000. updated 04/04/16*lj consumer stated ongoing problem with electrical system total failure caused by faulty sun roof drains. drains leaked into fuse box causing total electrical system failure. updated 05/25/18*jb
Sunroof continues to leak water. moisture mildew growth in interior. car gets saturated every time. driver side floor boards full of water. electrical warning lights continue to sound and flash...today it's the brake warning. water is corroding my electrical system...it's not safe! gmc keep ignoring this problem, even though this issue is an epidemic of complaints all over the web! this should have been a recall years ago! this is absolutely unacceptable!
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that water filled up in the fuse box from a faulty drainage for the windshield wiper fluid, causing the vehicle not to start. the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 171,000.
Rain leak into car, water pouring into frame and trapped in frame of car, roof of car. water leaking out of airbag locations. when we drive, we can hear water moving around in frame, see water leaking out of airbag areas in frame of car. water trapped inside frame of car, rotting inside of car, mold, mildew potential, fire hazard. gmc says they are not responsible for repairs, car no longer under warranty. how can i safely drive a vehicle in which both the airbags and electrical system is compromised??
Water enters the interior of the vehicle as the sunroof drains continue to clog up and water falls on driver and driver side electrical fuses.
Car would not start and had to jump off. when i did this i went to turn off and had the key out and the car kept running for around a minute before finally stalling. did this several times with the same result. i then took it to dealership. after a day they called and informed me that the windshield was allowing water in at the passenger side and fuse panel under glove box was full of water and corroded. they advised a new windshield as mine had a small star crack in it and needed to be resealed. that along with recommending a new fuse panel. they checked all drain lines for sunroof and said they were fine. paid the bill for this at $799.58 with assurance that water issue was fixed. well one week later and the first rain since after sitting in light rain for 2 hours and driving 20 minutes i noticed water dripping into both floorboards from a post. i will be taking back to dealership tomorrow with them still not aknowledging anything about water problems.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the passenger side fuse block was corroded and had an electrical shortage due to water damage. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
Nothing in the car will make sound anymore. the door chimes don't work, the backup sensor does not sound, turn signals don't make sound and the radio is on but does not sound. i had to reset to factory settings and it still makes no sound.
There are many recalls on this vehicle. did dealership says that they fix them and yet they're still not resolved. these issues include the electrical system, the airbag system, the stabilitrak system, issues with water leaking through the sunroof, l]]as well as water leaking into the interior lights. there are also issues with liftgate working correctly. all of these are issues with my acadia. i need to know what to do to handle this properly. this car has turned into a death trap. i have been trying for years to get these things resolved. i have got to run around the entire time.
Hvac blower motor submerged in water. causing motor to fail. no defrost. effecting field of vision. no sunroof on this model acadia. seems to be from condensation. also concerned about electrical failure. *tr
My 2008 gmc acadia would not start and the key could not be removed from the ignition. the vehicle was towed to a gmc dealership. the mechanic diagnosed that the sunroof was leaking into the headliner and going straight to the fuse block. i had to replace the fuse block, battery as well as seal the leak around the sunroof and cowl. gmc refused to pay anything towards this repair and will not issue a recall. i spent $1,200 just to fix this due to gmc's poor craftsmanship. mileage of car is 104,00. *tr
I purchased this vehicle, and was told there were no active recalls and nothing wrong with vehicle, the dealership supposedly had took it through a hundred point inspection, immediately, the air bag light came on, it started losing anti-freeze and the check engine light came on , after several trips to the service dept at this toyota dealership, i am still having issues, they fixed the small things like the water pump, the rear wiper blade, electrical but the engine light still comes on and i had it checked out and it is the transmission, it is going out, and the air bag (service air bag soon) is still on, but was supposedly fixed by a recall in 2011, either it was a bad part, or it was not serviced at all. i have been driving for 40 years and i have always been a loyal gm owner, especially the buick lasabre which i drove for 15 years, but i am not happy with the quality of this vehicle and the dealership that i purchased it at, and they are rated by the bbb as a. i also do not like the fact that on gm commercials it states non gm owners, like come on in, we will take care of non gm owners but not the loyal ones. i think it very important to stick with american brands and love gm, just very dissatisfied with this one. i think gm should fix this car, the air bag and especially the transmission!!!!updated 11/10/15 *bf
This vehicle leaks through the sunroof and it goes all around the interior of the vehicle. since it leaks inside i'm afraid it is going to reach the electrical components of the vehicle. it also leaks around where the battery is at an it can cause a shortage. water also falls in through all the way to the carpet where the driver and passenger side, i don't know if the rear rows are affected. this makes the car have a ugly smell and sometimes i can't even breathe in my own car-- it smells extremely humid and horrible. the water that leaks in also leaves nasty marks around the interior roof of the car that really makes me feel depressed as soon as i open my door and see it. this problem really concerns me and i've also see multiple reviews of people with the same vehicle that have this problem. i can't drive my car in the rain or take it through the car wash without water leaking inside, and i hope one day it doesn't cause a fire in the electrical components.
The cluster stays dim when the vehicle starts up sometime it stays dim from 5-10 minutes or sometimes when i hit a bump. also there are various times when it want crank up until i get a jump start now it's begin to happen more regularly. the battery was checked it's good , the charging was checked it's good. it has been checked by the place i bought it from several times they can't seem to find anything wrong with it. *tr
