Problems with 2008 GMC Acadia ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On average, the 2008 GMC Acadia starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and its various aspects after 197 064 miles.

Components Affected by ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Issues

We have classified the 122 complaints from 2008 GMC Acadia about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.

IGNITION 2

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2008 GMC Acadia

The bose system in my 2008 gmc acadia stopped working. i was unable to use the onstar system because there was not sound coming out of the speakers. today we removed the wiring harness in the rear doors of the car and found water. *tr

Vehicle leaked causing fuse box to short out. *tr

When driving through recent rainstorm i turned around to grab a toy for my son and water was dripping on my head. i looked up and it was literally pouring out of the light fixture and each light was filled like a pool. completely unacceptable! *tr

While i was driving my light buttons under my radio went out for a minute. they was going on and off when i hit the gas or brakes. the next day i drove it my signal light was not showing that it was on or working but it was working from the outside. my hand gauge would drop to 0 and then go back up to my correct speed. my radio screen went out my mute button on steering wheel does not work anymore. when i cut my car off and i open my drivers door the radio would automatically cut off but now it takes a minute for it to do so. today i was going to go out for lunch but when i cut my truck on i think it cut right back off. so i cut it back on and it stayed on a while i was just too scared to move. i am scared all these electrical problems will have me on the side of the road soon. this is not good. *tr

2 drilled holes in the sunroof are allowing water to flow throughout vehicle wiring harnesses. water has settled in engine and harnesses. in my case, the water shorted out the amplifier. worried that this could also create electrical fire or other malfunction(s). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuse panel was corroded and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Check engine lite goes on and off appears to be timing chain. we have a 2008 gmc acadia that has had over $4000.00 in repairs since we purchased it in 2010. the most current is that the timing chain needs to be replaced at the cost of $3500.00. i have read all 167 complaints from other customers posted on the consumer affairs website regarding the 2007-15 gmc acadia. i compiled a list of all reported problems by year/make other customers reported on their acadias. gmc has extended warranty for the timing chain for 2007 and 2009, not 2008 though. all of our previous repairs have been reported by others also. 2 of my repairs had recalls after we had paid for the repair. have been reimbursed by gmc for parts only for stabilizer kit, power steering pump assembly and rack n pinion but not the liftgate yet. i contacted gmc customer care requesting they look into including the 2008 but was told it isn't included and all they could do is give us a $2000.000 voucher for a new or leased gmc. (case #8-1702070910) i tried to contact gmc at a higher level ([email protected]) sending them a request to review 2008 recalls for sway bar end links. front and back rotors, sun roof leaking, front gas struts, purge valve, vent control solenoid and amplifier. included a copy of my repair log and summary of complaints on consumer affairs for 2007-15 acadias. they responded within 36 hours by having tiffany (the original contact at gmc) telling again all they can do is the $2000.00 voucher. so i can only assume they did no research at all and i'm out of luck. i think gmc needs to be held responsible for their products and customers and not tell me they a man made product, they don't last forever. thank you for your time. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I just purchased a 2008 gmc acadia one month ago. we live in washington state and it rains alot. the first couple days of driving the vehicle, we experienced water dripping all over our seats, floor, and in corners of windows when we drove it getting my 3 children and myself wet. i didn't think it was such a big deal at first since i figured it was a minor leak i could easily fix. over the next 2 weeks, i noticed my front headlight would flicker on and off and sometimes not work at all. i also figured it was a typical vehicle issue. up until a week ago i tried to start up the vehicle and it wouldn't start, i knew it was the battery. i took it to get checked only to discover the battery, which is located under the floor board on the passenger back side , was submerged with water. the battery was taken and checked out good out of the vehicle. i researched online that there plenty of others experiencing this same issue and there are no recalls in place now. what am i supposed to do? this is a definite safety issue as its affecting the electrical system. i have a 2 year old,4 year old, and a 5 year old. my 5 year old has health issues and my husband and i bought this vehicle in hopes to have a reliable and most importantly safe vehicle because he is in the u.s. navy and is away alot on deployments and underways. the rain draining inside also causes mold which is dangerous for my children. the dealership wants to charge us almost 1,000$ to repair this. they were unsure how to fix this permanently so they referred me to the body shop. *tr

it started as a very rare incident. when we heard about the heavy key chain problem we took everything off our fobs but two keys. when the key was turned, the ignition would make a strange clicking noise and all of the electronics would turn off. the key would have to be removed, reinserted, and the car started before everything could be reset. on one other occasion besides it's final meltdown did it refuse to release the key and run the battery down. last week, on 12/10/14, i drove thee car and it acted up 3 times. we decided it was time to put it in the shop. it opened with the fob that night but refused to re-lock 2 hours later - everything dead. new battery so shouldn't be dead. tried to start - ate key and refused to release until late next day after trickle charge put to it. since then - all electronics work now and then but car will not start. warranty ran out 2 days ago. sucks!!! *tr

There is a potential fire hazard with the daylight running lights overheating before they burn out on both driver and passenger side. the bulb gets so hot that they melt the bulb socket causing an electrical fire hazard. the heat also has made the headlight housing brittle and cracked to where the socket wont stay in place inside the headlight housing thus causing the bulb to lay on the plastic causing a fire hazard. general motors knows about this fire hazard because i have called it to there attention and because they have a customer satisfaction program #13135. they have also recalled some 2007 and 2009 to 2011 vehicles but not 2008 with the same problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced several electrical failures. the rear doors would not unlock, the liftgate failed to open, the check engine indicator illuminated intermittently, and the battery failed while the key was stuck in the ignition. when the battery was replaced, the key was removed; however, the engine was still operable. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing where it was stated that the body control module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

My gmc acadia 2008 constantly stalls on me the issues started august 5 and has continue up to last night august 17th. while i'm driving the car would shut off on me and the check engine light would appear. i wont be able to restart the car so i had the car towed to the nearest gmc dealer. after paying for a diagnostic report the mechanic told me they could not find any codes indication the check engine light even came on. last night i was scared because i left work at midnight after driving about 10 minutes the car started jumping then turned off and the check engine light came on in the middle of the street . i called on-star and they were dispatching a tow truck because the car would not come on. after 45 minutes i tried to turn the car on and it came on so i cancelled the tow truck service. this is a issue that's been happening for the last 2 weeks. i cant get the issued fixed because the last 2 diagnostic reports that were ran states no issues. i also had on-star run a diagnostic report right when the issue happened and they also told me they don't see any issues. i took a picture with my cell phone when the check engine light came on but no one seems to know the issues the suv is facing. everything stays on the radio the lights just the car shuts off and wont start for like 45 minutes to an hour. i've looked on different gmc acadia forums and it seems i'm not the only person having this issue with this same make model and year car. someone on the forum suggested i make a compliant at the ntsa. *tr

The vehicle refused to shift out of first gear and the check engine light became illuminated upon pulling out into the roadway. at 25 miles per hour the rpms were 4000 and it just would not shift. we pulled over, called for help and were stranded on the side of the road with two small children. we were hours away from home, and had to call family from hundreds of miles away to come help. the vehicle after being turned off and sitting for a while did then return to normal operation when restarted. vehicle was driven home and two days later the very same problem recurred. going to trade in this pos before someone gets hurt. *tr

I'm logging these issue as i have now come to realize that the issues we have had with our 2008 gmc acadia are very widespread among owners. very early on in the life of the vehicle approx oct 2008 we began seeing small amounts of water inside the cabin. water would drip along the windshield occasionally, no action was taken as it was not consistent or so we thought. on multiple occasions my wife would complain that the vehicle would "cutoff" or "die" generally at slow speed in areas such a parking lots when turning, however the dealer was unable to re-create the issue so no repairs were made. one day this summer (2014) my wife was unable to start the vehicle, it just would not crank. on taking it to the dealer the vehicle was diagnosed with a corroded battery cable that ran from the middle of the vehicle to the starter in the engine bay. cost to repair $1,200. in approximately june 2014 the vehicle began experiencing a slight rollback when placed into drive. at first we didn't think it was an issue as it didn't get worse with time. however by october 2014 we got a check engine light, diagnosis transmission failure cost to repair $4,890 after a $200 discount. *tr

Water leaking after rain storm down to floor mats on both the driver and passenger side. we had our windshield recently replaced back in may of this year, so i thought that this was maybe the issue and took back to the glass repair shop. upon investigating further, they found that the issue was happening to many of the gmc vehicles on the electrical recall. i went to gm's website and entered my vin and nothing about this issue on our personal vehicle. in our small community there have been two house fires, major damage caused by the electrical system ignition etc on gm vehicles. we do not want to be the next victim. *tr

When the ignition switch was turned on, the car started, but rather than return to the "on" position, the switch returned to the "off" position and the motor turned off. this has happened numerous times, but only one time when the vehicle was actually in motion. *tr

Driving at 35mph, touched brake to slow down for a stoplight, vehicle stopped running. i placed in park and turned ignition to restart vehicle, stabiltrack light came on, and drove home with no other incident.had a full tank of gas. *tr

Turned off vehicle when arrived home. opened the door and realized car was still running, keys were in my hand. put key back in ignition and jiggled, nothing happened, car still running. turned key to middle and then to start, turned off again and car finally shut off. i tried to start again to see if happened and the yellow light (malfunction light) came on. this time i was able to shut off the car. called dealer to schedule service for this issue and recall 14030 that i just received in the mail, they can't get me in until july 11th. a few hours later i went out to car to put acadia manual and grocery bags back in vehicle, unable to unlock back door with remote. tried to start car but nothing happens except clicking noise and the yellow malfunction light comes on. odometer reading above is estimate because the car is dead, unable to view actual odometer reading. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that the vehicle remained powered on after removing the key from the ignition. the contact put the key back in the ignition and shifted into park in order to turn the vehicle off but the key would not turn in the off position. the contact made several attempts to remove the key to no avail. the key remained stuck in the ignition and the battery was drained due to the failure. the vehicle was scheduled to be towed and diagnosed by an authorized dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

Water sloshing under the glove box, and getting on passenger's shoes. pulled plastic housing around blower motor to find it completely filled with water (same as described at this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnykjlhusxi). turns out the sunroof drain is clogged and the interior is filling with water (like in this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxzygdlln-u). the battery compartment is full of water. *tr

2008 gmc acadia. consumer writes in regards to vehicle ignition issues. *smd the consumer stated on april 18, 2014, he went to start the vehicle and despite repeated efforts, the key would not turn. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. according to the invoice, the ignition lock cylinder was binding. it was replaced at a cost of $ 321.85. *jb

While driving on the interstate the stabilitrak, traction control and reduced power lights came on. the car was running really rough and i had to cross traffic to pull over. i turned it off and sat for 5-10 minutes. i started it and it acted like nothing had happened. i drove it directly to a chevy dealer and they said the only thing they could find was that it appeared that the throttle body had moisture in it and the moisture had frozen. they dried it out and its been fine, until last week. i was on my way to chicago, again on the interstate, and the all the lights started coming on, then the engine light, but i did not lose power this time. i'm really afraid to drive my car and unfortunately i have several more trips to chicago in the near future. i would take our other vehicle, but it is also a gm product and is having the same issues. i have read many forums where the same situation has been happening for as far back as 6 years and appears to be a major problem for a lot of gm owners. people are having sensors changed out, throttle body replaced and other work done on their vehicles and nothing is solving the problem. gm needs to find out what the problem is and fix it! its very dangerous to be driving along in wall to wall traffic and lights start coming on and there is the possibility of losing power in the middle of all that! unfortunately, since we have two gm vehicles with the same problem, there is no way to avoid driving one of them. fyi - i also read that there are problems going on with leaks in the rack and pinion and sway bar issues. i had a leak in my rack and pinion and had to replace the sway bars last fall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that after the ignition was turned off and the key removed the vehicle remained on for five minutes. the failure was not diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

Headlamp wiring melted the headlamp module and bulb receptacle there was no fire but there could have been i was informed there was a service directive on this that expired on 12/31 but i still had to pay $240 to have it repaired when i googled the problem i found multiple complaints about this defect. i feel it is something you should look into. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc arcadia. the contact stated that the sunroof was leaking due to a shortage in the electrical system. in addition, the vehicle would not immediately shut off once the key was removed from the ignition. the failure was recurring. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the mechanic diagnosed that the tubing needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

So the window switches don"t work, when i'm trying to open the window it will open but then it won't close back, the steering wheel makes squeaking noises and most important the most costly thing to repair was the transmission. we purchased the car used with 53,000 miles on and after driving another 20,000 miles the transmission broke i had to pay out of my packet about 4,000 dollars for the repair i have two small children and when it comes for safety im not sure if we should keep the vehicle. when i'm reading all those recall issues i'm getting worried about my kids safety. *tr

While driving the car, i felt water drip from overhead and heard sloshing noises. shortly thereafter, water began leaking from airbag indicia. though the vehicle was turned off and key removed, the engine continued to run. imagine how unsafe to turn off a vehicle, remove the key and the engine to remain running. before i could get to service, the temperature plummeted to below zero, and i could not get the defroster to work. i scraped the interior of the windows, but without heat, fogged again. zero visibility. the dealer said there were multiple points where water was seeping into the car, wreaking havoc with the electrical system, including hvac, defroster. service tech said there was "blower mower" failure. after some research, i discovered my vehicle had same problems as gmc acadia campaign 08207, with failure of sunroof part 25930220, which affected limited vin numbers. we also discovered the airbags are not working from the water damage to the electrical system. the current status of this getting repaired is unknown -- obvious safety concerns! in addition, i had noticed floor mats being damp, but assumed a consequence of the snow and rain. i am convinced that the leak/damp floor mats is reason for the mildew/mold smell. each of these problems are well documented in their tsbs. i was also shocked to find so many similar complaints! please, please review the correlation between tsbs electrical system failures and repairs to the leaking hose. of course, gmc denies this is their problem, and says repairs will all be at my expense. finally, i am not the first person to have this problem! surely, the fact that i (and many, many others) are having the exact leak problems as referenced in gmc campaign 08207 indicates that problem went beyond those vin#s. they are hiding a big problem. help!! *tr

My 2008 acadia transmission failed as i exited a highway (70 mph) and was going up the exit ramp. it began bucking like a horse. once i pulled over and parked, i could not go in reverse. the car had to be towed and a new transmission had to be put in it after only 56k miles. also have had the sunroof / moon roof trays overflow because the drainage tubes are not large enough to drain all the water from the trays. the dealership stated it was a poor design and nothing could be done to replace it. now water has entered my vehicle causing the electrical box to become wet causing the horn to blow randomly and the car to continue running after turning it off and removing the key. *tr

Water leaking into vehicle cabin entering through panoramic sunroof and ending in the electronic components under the driver side causing multiple dashboard warning lights to turn on and inoperable at times when lit. on two instances vehicle unable to start took to dealership for repairs and after a few days and unable to replicate was sent home. currently breaks and electronic stability control lights come on and off intermittently and unable to operate cruise control. *tr

Passenger side headlight failed to properly function, bulb was changed and still failed to function properly. problem seems rooted in manufacturer's wire harness not properly functioning.

We bought our 2008 gmc acadia in january 2008. the battery died in july 2008 while vacationing in canada leaving us stranded. after it went dead several more times the dealership replaced it. the air conditioning went out several times in 2010 and we had to pay to have the ac recharged twice since. in july 2013 we had to have the transmission replaced when it stopped shifting into gear. our warranty had expired in january of that year. the dealership did get gm to pay half but it still cost us almost $2,000.00. now it is at the dealership again and we have to replace the entire steering column as it lost power steering at low speeds. we are having it repaired at an estimate of nearly $1,800.00 more. this vehicle cost about $36,000.00 in 2008. since then we have paid thousands of dollars just to keep it on the road and safe. this is a lemon and i would like to see a recall for both the transmission and loss of steering at low speeds. i see that both of these are common problems with this vehicle. i would like to be reimbursed for our expenses. *js

Bought this life altering mess of a vehicle in june 2013 with 77k miles. since that time a wide spectrum of issues have arose and cost me for than just money. windshield wiper quit working and needed to be fixed (i now see that was a recall) constant electric issues in using beeping, lighting up at inappropriate times, not registering a grown adult in passenger seat. also, leaking transmission fluid. gm did cover that charge which was no help with the rear end that had to be replaced at a cost of nearly $3000. transmission still (before leak "fixed") and after will read idle transmission hot at many times. leaking water when we receive heavy rains. leaking comes from drivers side airbag "label") i have been financially strapped because of this vehicle i had worked and saved so hard for just trying to keep my job! i need my vehicle to work and my life is at risk when i'm forced to get behind the wheel because of these issues that gm is aware of. with the money i've spent (i'm a single working mother with two young sons) because of gm turning a blind eye i am in dire need of the proper resolution to this year long devastation of preventable events. please assist me in this fore i'm unable to go further with continuing to fix problems that thousands of other owners are having with the same vehicle. thank you. in 2011 my children and myself lost our home to a devastating flood that rocked our city and as of feb 2014 we were finally able to move out of the camper and get a home. i cannot prevent a flood and all the pain it caused myself and my children but i will not cease to fight for what it right. that is replacing my vehicle with equal, reliable safe vehicle immediately! after all, this was completely preventable and should've been fixed before now. please help me. thank you for your time. *tr

While out shopping with my children when i attempted to turn off the vehicle to depart for the mall, the ignition turned to the off position, i removed the key but the car remained on. i then noticed that the check engine light illuminated. shortly after, the car began shaking violently; i assume as it was attempting to shut off. i inserted the key, shifted into to reverse, pulled out of spot and then back in again. proceeded to turn vehicle off and again, key removed but car still running. again the violent shaking along with loud noises began. afraid, i instructed my children to leave the vehicle. we got a comfortable distance from the vehicle and continued to watch. it took 25 minutes for the car to shut totally down. when i went back to the car, as i opened the door, i noticed the warning sound as if the key was in the ignition and also although the entire dash was off, the check engine light was still on, (im not sure how since the car was "off" and no key inserted). i drove the car home and the same thing happened when exiting the vehicle. the car remained on, began shaking and the check engine light also stayed on after the car was totally shut down. very scary experience. i noticed via the internet that this was not a new issue. i wonder why gm would not have corrected this problem with its vehicles by now. i am a single parent and my teenage daughter sometimes has to run errands for me in this vehicle, i would hate for this to happen when im not with her.... its was frightening enough for me! *tr

Had to wait to give my daughter a ride. sat in the pouring rain for about 40 minutes. put the car in drive and began to pull forward and water poured down the windshield from the inside. water also came in from the front left curtain airbag and the visor arm. engine began to idle rough. anti-lock brakes grab on low speed slow down. our area of texas is drought prone so no more significant rain until july 14-16. water pours in the front windshield, both driver and passenger side. water from curtain airbags and under the dash. standing water in the floor board. obd light is on and my parking break warning light turns on and off. park assist goes on and off. the warning chime comes on while driving and won't turn off. no telling how much damage all of this will cause. i have one more payment until the thing is mine free and clear. no warranty and no recourse. it figures. *tr

2008 gmc acadia- steering problems!!- 65,000 started noticing power steering loss when slow turning sometimes...off and on...then got more often and much worse...replaced rack ($300).....problem still not fixed...next trying to replace power steering pump ($$ yet to find out)...recall on headlight- socket melted and replaced....airbag light continues to come off and on...traction control, stability track, and airbag light come off and on randomly. no sound...took to gmc dealership, they told us it was the radio. replaced radio($450), still didn't work. dealership stated amp blew and needed new amp ($400)...thought it was the amp the entire time due to the cd player working visually, but no sound in entire vehicle for any electronic feature. shifting randomly when going down highway. gas mileage horrible-- about 14 to 14 .5mpg-- much worse than when we first got it at 48,000...love the look and when it works....why is there no recall will the power steering?? come on gmc step up and do the right thing already!!! *tr

We were parked with the back end up on a slope, when we went down onto level ground a large amount of water came in between our windshield and ceiling- it poured onto our passenger side dash. we thought we got all the water soaked up right away. the next morning our car was making a clicking sound and wouldn't start. it wouldn't give the key back. when we jumped it- it wouldn't shut off. we had to unhook the battery- very dangerous. this went on for days. *tr

My vehicle sat out in the rain over night and the next day when i got to work i shut the car off and got out of the car. when i got out of the car i noticed that the engine was still running, so i got back in the car and all lights were off only the engine was still running. i turned the key over and then back and then at that point the engine stopped. when i returned to my car that evening after work my car was dead. it took two guys 30 minutes to get my battery to charge. once my battery was charged my service air bag light remained on. the next morning my car was dead when i turned the key absolutely nothing turned on and i could not get the keys out of the ignition. the car is currently sitting in my garage and we are trying to determine what step to take if we should get it towed to a dealer to look at, but looking at other reviews it seems like this is a common problem with no resolution at the dealership. in the past and on this occasion my vehicle was leaking water mainly above the driver side visor area. i often would notice water on the passenger floor and water in the third row lights ceiling area. so i am assuming my electronics are wet and when they dry out my car will act normal again. i can not believe that there is not a recall or some type of remedy for this. i guess from now on my vehicle needs to go in the garage, but what happens when my family is on a trip. i can not rely on my car so not sure what the point of keeping it is, but i sure don't want to keep passing my car off on some other poor person. there needs to be a remedy. i would like to have a reliable car and i am also worried about the safety for my family with electrical shorts and fire hazard due to the water leakage problems. *tr

Water water water leaking in vehivle everywhere. dripping from rear overhead lights, rear back-up sensor, around emergency brake, a-pillars are soaked, pooling on driver side floor. water and electrical = nothing but problems and more problems. this is now our second acadia in the last month first was a 07 which water was also leaking from even more areas (opened overhead dvd and water just poured out). that vehicle was fixed per tsb yet problem never solved it just continued to leak. dealership bought it back once they found us a different acadia which i now have a 08. they said they found out that the 07's water leaking was a major issue but not with the 08's. well we signed the papers on march 1st and no suprise water leaking everywhere by march 10th. i contacted gmc and was told to have it diagnosed and then they will pass it on to some other department claim specilist person to see if they can help. oh yeah and found out from gmc that the tsb for drain tube extensions has already been done on vehicle. i am hopefull that gmc will take care of this issue at their expense. ---with the first vehicle, after water issue started my wife would be driving and the power seat would move all the way forward and she could not stop that from happening. she tried to hit the button to stop the seat from moving but it was non responsive until the seat was all they way forward. my wife as very long legs and said if she would have had to make any sort of emergency manovers she would not have been able to. if gmc does not reslove this issue i plan on start the process of a class action lawsuit for all affected acadia owners. *tr

Our vehicle sat out in the rain for several hours because we were at our daughter's sporting event in another town. when we came back to our vehicle to drive home, we noticed the carpet was wet and when my husband pulled forward water began to come out of both the third row light and seatbelts. we did our best to clean the water up and planned on contacting the dealership as soon as we could. we drove the car to work the following morning as this is our main vehicle and when my husband shut off the car he noticed that it was making a strange noise. when he tried to restart the car it would not start. we attempted to jump the car, but it would not turn over. we ended up contacting a towing company to take the car to the local dealership. after a month of our car being out of commission, gm and the dealership have determined that there is extensive damage and we will need to have the wiring and circuit boards replaced at a cost of $6000. gm has completely washed theirs hands of this and continues to say it is an environmental issue and we didn't maintain the sunroof properly (although no documentation was given to inform us that this needed to happen) and clearly they know of the design flaw since they recalled it once for a leaky roof (we had the recall done). there are documented mold issues (which make people sick), airbags that have quit working, defroster motor issues in northern states, in addition to a complete vehicle failure while driving in an undesirable neighborhood. here is a link to edmonds.com where there are many, many complaints. http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f1e12d1. *tr

Transmission started failing and finally went out at 108,000 miles, sitting in our driveway and we had to have it towed to dealer. gm dealer replaced it under warranty but the labor cost us several thousand dollars. now at 170,000 miles, this remanufactured transmission is now going out. it sticks in low speed and then overheats driving 65mph in 40deg weather. the dealer claims that a stretched timing chain has to be fixed first, before the transmission, at a cost of $1944. they also said the on board computer didn't store the numerous overheated transmission events that began occurring immediately after the remanufactured transmission was installed at 108,000 miles. the gm dealer is trying to tell me that the transmission is probably ok and that the overheating is due to some other reason, but he then couldn't even guess at what the other reasons might be! the fluid level is good, and the vehicle has a tow package with a cooler for the transmission fluid. gm dealer said the transmission will be covered by warranty, which will likely mean another several thousand dollar labor charge on top of the so called stretched timing chain cost of $1,900. the power steering pump has been whining for about a year and is getting loud. the navigation and dvd player system failed twice. might be time to trade the vehicle for something more reliable. my wife is getting scared to drive it too far and end up being broken down in atlanta traffic...very dangerous. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 gmc acadia. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the instrument panel and the air bag warning light would shut off independently. also, the contact mentioned that the vehicle would provide false readings like door ajar when all doors were closed. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Water leak from either sunroof drain tube or faulty seam seal, caused water to come into vehicle causing floors and doormats to be wet and cause moldy odor. also caused major corrosion to harness and fuse box. told there could be more corrosion, but won't know until they pull those parts out. i have researched water leak recalls for gmc acadia's, and although it is currently not a recall, it is a very common problem that happens in many acadia's, therefore, i believe this problem should be made a recall! i am told that water leaks are not covered under my limited warranty and they only offered to go half with me on the repairs. told it will be between $900-$1,600. even going half on either of those amounts, i do not feel it is fair that i pay anything toward a problem that gm knew about when the acadia came out in '07. instead of doing something about it back then, they opted to wait and deal with it on a case to case basis. this is not fair that we consumers have to pay for their poor workmanship! gm should be held accountable for their negligence in selling a vehicle that has proved to have continuous water leaks. *tr

Daylight running lights overheat both driver and passenger sides. there is evidence that both bulb sockets have overheated and the light housing has cracked from the overheating. with the bulb and socket overheating this has the possibility of causing a fire, with evidence being the cracked lamp housing form the heat. i have replaced the bulbs on both sides always using dielectric grease. i have owned this car since 2010 and replaced the right side bulb 3 times and now on the left side 4 times. there is a factory recall on other year models but not on the 2008 gmc acadia slt-2 having every bell and whistle. it was monday, nov. 19, 2012 when this electrical system failure happened again. *tr

I purchased my 2008 gmc acadia on 9/22/11. the following summer on august 25, 2012 the transmission went out while on vacation. it was towed to a dealership where they told me the wave plate and snap ring were broken. they replaced the clutch housing, all pistons, all fibers, replaced side cover and pistons and seals and springs. they replaced control valve body spacer plate and tom solenoid gasket screen. the vehicle had 73,730 miles on it. since then i have also replaced the headlights twice, the battery once. my dash lights only work when they want to and my windshield sprayer stopped working. to top it off my transmission went out again just the other day!!!! it's november 10th 2014 with 119,000 miles and i'm already needing to have another transmission!?!? this vehicle is junk, and i still owe a ton of money.....something needs to be done about this! *tr

The drl went out and we took it to the dealer to be replaced. they said the housing around the wiring/light had melted and we would need to replace the entire housing at a cost of $1,100. they stated it was a fire hazard. i am out of warranty and see that this is a common issue. *tr

I replaced the driver side daytime running lamp and 8 days later replaced passenger side daytime running lamp. the last bulb replaced was on the passenger side and now is burned out again less than three weeks later. there is evidence on both bulb connectors of overheating. dielectric grease has been used everytime bulbs have been changed through out the life of the vehicle. to the best of my knowledge, any time there is overheating on an electrical circuit further problems could arise. there is a factory recall on other year models but not on the 2008 gmc acadia slt-2 having every bell & whistle along with higher price tag than lesser trim packages. *tr

we bought the acadia used from a local dealer and the first time it rained significantly water leaked in around the door post at front of vehicle. this leak caused some of the electrical boards to short out which allowed us not to be able to shut the vehicle off even with the key removed. we took it to the dealer, they informed us about the electrical boards and stated the charge to repair. after a call to gm complaint line they repaired the board at no charge to us, but after about 2months same problem accrued same issues. dealer said water still leaking in but could not find, they dried out the electric connections and said to try it again. after 2months the problem happened again to no help from dealer,my concern is fear of fire from shorted boards or the build up of mold under carpet. any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. *tr

The sunroof drainage tubes get clogged and leaked water which caused the fuse box in the dash to be filled with water. also flooding all the floors and the battery compartment inside the car. which in return causes the car to not shut off when you turn the key off and take it out. it also causes all kinds of sensors and check engine lights to come on on the dash like service airbag service stable track causes the traction control to turn off falsely tells you that engine oil needs changed also causes the battery to go dead for no reason also displays ac off engine hot

Car will not shut off after removing key from ignition takes a minute for car to shut off car would not start next morning intrunent panel shows multipal problems have read online consumers with same problems who is responsible for this issue.need help have had vehicle fpr three weeks was not told by dealer abought problems with electrical have printed all other complaints on line and will show to dealer i would hope that gmc does not approve with these actions.also have problem with sreering it makes a loud clunking sound when turning steering wheel this coul be a serious safety issue to my family. *tt

Bought our gmc acadia dec. 2011 had no issues till jan 2012. since then it has been back to the dealership repeatedly for seemingly linked problems. started with just a dead battery upon further investigation found that the wiring harness was submerged in water, causing battery to short out, replaced the battery and fixed the apparent point of entry. not two weeks later back in the shop, water pouring from the head liner (around the interior lights, sunroof moldings, and seat belt joints). our acadia remained at the dealership for three days with no luck of finding a leak (checked all drain lines and ran the vehicle through the water machine). here we are again vehicle has been at the shop for a week with no luck of finding the point of intrusion; this time the water leak shorted out the entire fuse panel. after trying to find the leak for over a week, sending the vehicle to another shop to "get a fresh set of eyes on it", and contacting gm for advise (which was no help) the dealership still has been unsuccessful in locating the water leak. not sure what to do next. all i know is we bought a $30,000.00 car so we wouldn't have problems and here we are with problems, expensive problems. *tr
