Problems with 2011 Ford Fusion SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2011 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 126 894 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2011 Ford Fusion

Brake pedal goes to the floor, braking distance greatly increases, and the car is not safe to drive. this is the same problem identified in the 2006-2010 recall. please make ford expand the recall to include the 2011 ford fusion

To whom it concerns, well first of all i purchase a vehicle from, i don't have the title, so the bank and the dealership got that stuff. next they think they can be rude, lie, and play games, thirdly they said i wrecked when it came off the lot on condition as it was in, but no way. fourthly, they wand to lie and say 2 different store just like the bank does, i've had to put almost a 1000 bucks into the vehicle, and i'm upside down in it, i told the bank this, and the bank said they be contacting the dealership, never happened i asked to take the 1000 bucks off my loan for these services but won't, this why i'm reporting them, next the bank can never decide if they want insurance on the vehicle been harassed by both the dealership and bank, which is first premier bank and frankman motors sioux falls,sd, plus i was suppose to receive a manual for my car never happened, so something needs to be done, if both places of business's want me to be nice, they got to earn it, and do something about this lemon vehicle

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to stop the vehicle. the vehicle crashed into a motor home. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. the contact stated that he was a certified ford mechanic. the contact replaced the brake master cylinder however, the failure persisted. way scarff ford auburn located at 501 auburn way n, auburn, wa 98002, (253) 833-1500, was contacted and informed of the failure. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. the approximate failure was 140,000.

Vehicle was in motion, driving to work in rain and wet road conditions. depressed the brake pedal to slow the vehicle as it was traveling through an intersection with a puddle on the roadway. i felt the abs engage and the brake pedal pulsate. the brake pedal pressure felt firm prior to the abs engaging. vehicle continued to remain in motion when i depressed the brake pedal again to slow the vehicle. this time the brake pedal felt soft and traveled to the floor board before the brakes began to slow the vehicle. the vehicles stopping distance increased significantly. i was able to drive to work and home, but the brake pedal continued to remain soft and did not engage brakes until reaching the floor. i checked for obvious leaks around the brake calibers, with none noted, and the brake fluid level was at the full level in the fluid reservoir. there are no indications of external leaking around the master cylinder. i have scheduled an appointment with the local ford dealership to diagnose the problem. there are no warning lights, abs or others, illuminated on the dashboard before, during or after the brakes became soft and less responsive. originally suspected a master cylinder failure, but now suspect a abs hydraulic control unit or module after reading about similar fault conditions on the internet. the vehicles brake fluid was serviced by firestone about 45 days prior to this fault occurring. i am concerned about this fault because there was no warning of impending failure and the lack of a warning light indication with the fault still present is also troubling. i was able to avoid an accident because traffic was light at the time it had occurred and was able to reduce my speed and increase my following distance to compensate for the increased stopping distance.

While in motion and when the abs system engages either due to brakes or stability control, a valve in the control unit sticks open and from then on the brake pedal goes to the floor with very little modulation of the brakes. this happens every time the abs activates.

When breaking following an abs event, the brake pedal sinks almost to the floor before stopping the car. this condition persists for an indeterminate amount of time (minutes to days) before self-correcting. i have experienced this on multiple occasions over about two years. i have experienced it after hard braking on snowy/icy roads and after hitting pot holes. this appears to be the same condition as reported in recall 19s54 (abs valve may remain open after abs event) which does not cover my car's model year. my mechanic has done the following work which has not fixed the problem: installed new front and back calipers, pads, and rotors, completely flushed brake fluid, and bled anti-lock brakes using instructions in the ford ids scan tool.

As a i engage my brake to come to a stop or slow down my brake sinks all the way to the floor. at times my abs will engage if i'm coming to a sudden stop, only on the left driver side. my left driver side tire is showing wear from this event happening quite often. at other times i've had close call accidents due to my brakes not engaging like they should. my yearly inspection is also getting difficult to past by having this brake issue. as far as i know 2006- 2010 models have had a recall due to similar incidents. my 2011 fusion was manufactured in february 2011 and could have the same parts used. i've looked into the problem before the recall was put in place for the older models and many ford owners report the brake abs pump being the problem. i've changed my brakes and calipers to see if any would fix the issue but the problem remains the same.

One day i had noticed while driving that something wasn't feeling right, something was different then before. so as i'm driving i can notice it more especially when coming to a stop in a hurry. i didn't have any brakes on the car so i just started pumping the peddle because i didn't know what else to do and thankfully that worked. i have sent my car to a mechanic and he has been trying very hard to fix the problem. we've changed all the pads and rotors, bled out the lines, rebauilt the master cylinder and even bought a used abs pump. nothing has worked to get the brakes working properly so that is why i am making this complaint about the brake sytem in my vehicle not working correctly and could've lead to someone getting hurt or killed. i have done more work on the vehicle now then it is even worth so i hope that you can help me out in this situation with my brakes. thank you

On 5 november 2019 while traveling i-270 in maryland without prior warning my brake pedal went all the way to the floor, and the following warning lights came on: brake, abs, and traction control. this vehicle was extremely difficult to slow down or stop on the highway. this repair cost me $1335.53 and sounds very similar to the ford recall announced on december 19th involving 2006-2010 fusions. mine is a 2011.

In august 2016, i cranked my car (a 2011 ford fusion hybrid) in my driveway and noticed the service advancetrac, brake failure system, and abs lights lit up on the dash. i tried to back out and notcied the electric break were not working and the break peddle was to the floor and difficult to press. the car was towed to a ford dealer. they kept the car for a week and could not find a probelm. the lights went off and the probelm was resolved on its own. in august 2019, this probelm happened again. i cranked the car in a parking lot and noticed the same warning lights from 3 years ago were on. i was able to get home, but the brakes were not very responsive and were significiantly further down than usual. i took the car to a ford dealership and they claimed they "reset the system" and the problem was resolved. a few weeks later, the issue reoccured. the dealership said they did not know how to relsove the problem. after about 4 days the warning lights went off and the brakes returned to normal. on october 20, 2019 the warning lights came on again and the issue is still occuring. the car is drivable, but it does not feel safe. it could not come to an abrupt stop if needed and i live on a highway where people often pull out in front of me. in 2009, ford issued a software update for the brake system for fusion hybrids. it seems later hybrid models also need a software update. i have read that replacing the brakes or abs control module does not reslove the probelm. it is an issue with the computer system.

We were driving our 11 fusion on a narrow road and pulled over into loose gravel while braking and the abs was activated and the brake pedal went almost to the floor. the next day the brakes seemed fine, then i pulled out of my driveway and the brakes went almost to the floor again and the pedal has never came back. i'm scared to drive this car because i fear that someone is going to get killed before ford is forced to enact a recall. please help us! sincerely, fed up. *tr

The abs module not working and the brake foot so soft there is no pressure.

When you first start the car, the break booster is not building pressure properly. the first time you use the breaks, the break peddle will go all the way to the floor barely engaging the breaks. there is no way to perform an emergency stop if needed. i have had the car looked at in different shops for this. all people who have driven the car have duplicated the problem but are unable to find a fix. this has been a problem since i bought the car.

I was entering a freeway on an entrance. the cars in front me began to slow down. i was going about 45 mph. i apply brakes and i didn't feel a slow down. i reacted by then slamming the brakes and i want slowing down. i swerved into the shoulder hit the concrete wall, then hit another car from the side that was about 4 cars down and then hit the concrete wall again. the entire time i had the brakes pressed completely down. i did stop and i had the brakes floored. the pressure i'm used to feeling was no there. no one was seriously hurt. i travelled passed 6 cars and hit 1. i had plenty of time and distance to break, i couldn't stop. there were no warnings my brakes were a problems. i had just replaced all 4 brakes pads judy 2018 and did not have any issues. the freeway ramp i entered had construction so i was enclosed and had no option but the concrete wall and the ramp was ending since it merged into the highway.

Brakes went spongy after applying brakes on sudden downhill city street. took car to ford for brake inspection. they diagnosed problem as faulty abs dump valve. had to have ford remove and install new abs module and abs control module. very expensive repair for faulty ford part.

Braking failure. ford fusion anti lock brake control module has failed. brake must be pressed to the floor to stop. very, very dangerous.

My brake pedal is spongy, sometimes it goes all the way to the floor and doesn't stop. driving real slow through a parking lot or coming down the road to a traffic light, the brakes hardly work.have taken it to several shops and was diagnosed as a bad master cylinder but after much internet search i found hundreds of people with same issues about a shop diagnosed the same part and it got replaced and didn't fix car. the cars hydraulic control unit to blame and going to be a $1500 fix.

Car came up with "service advancetrac/service power steering now" error codes.

My 2011 ford fusion hybrid had front end rebuilt. then about 2 weeks later the right front brake compressed and would not release. this was on orange ave. orlando fl. i had to have the car towed to tropical ford as the brake was frozen in a compressed position. mileage around 116,000, they replaced the right front caliper, turned the rotor and replaced the pads. then at 117,000 miles the same thing happened after hitting a bump. the same brake froze in a compressed position. this time on tradeport dr. orlando, fl. had to drive to same dealership. now they tell me that it is probably the hcu/pcm that needs replaced and is apparently a common problem in fusions and at least one other model. they said a pin goes bad and causes the brakes to engage or compress and will not release. this is a serious safety issue as i was almost hit due to the sudden stop and a recall needs to occur,. this may be out of warranty but is clearly a manufacturing / supplier issue!

Brake failure emulating 2006-2010 recall.. required my replacement of valve assembly and brake fluid . system required professional bleeding of entire system due to the need for special equipment.

As i was driving on the expressway i tried slowing down but my brakes wouldn't stop i had to push them all the way to the ground so i pulled over at gas station put brake fluid in and it help but the next day it's doin it again i look and see the break fluid leaking out

The brake pedal occasionally has little resistance and goes to the floor. this car has become scary to drive. i assume this is the same issue i have read about concerning abs.

When driving my 2011 ford fusion going straight on clear road the brakes fail after hitting a bump and or pothole while pressing on the brakes. its like a " perfect storm" in order to duplicate it. you have to be driving and almost at the same time press the brake and hit the bump/pothole. the brakes fail. the peddle goes all the way down to the floor. almost hitting the car in front of me. to stop the car i had to pump the brakes while car still in motion for it to stop. eventually the brakes come back after frantically pumping the brakes. this is the third time now. i can't do this anymore i'm scared that i may die in a crash with me and my family.

Abs unit makes brakes go to floor.started after a quick stop

Takata recall i was coming to a stop light and suddenly it required much more pressure to stop the vehicle. now my brakes have to go almost to the floor to stop the car.

This vehicle is my 8 month pregnant wife's daily driver. she drove to the store and back and had noticed that the brake pedal was soft feeling. so i checked it out myself and sure enough the brake pedal goes down over half way to floor before you feel any pressure sometimes closer to the floor. she told me that the abs was triggered on her way to the store. we had a big snow storm a day before so it was slick out. the abs only clicked for a split second coming to a stop light and that's when the brakes started being soft after the abs kicked in for a split second. we have owned this car for a few years now bought it with only 68,000 miles. the car now has 133,100 miles on it and this is first time we have had the abs triggered and now this problem has showed up. seems to be a common problem with these cars and a very unsafe one. my wife is starting to think this isn't a safe car for us having our first child being in it and making trips.

When driving the vehicle the brake pedal became spongy and went to the floor not stopping the car. when it was checked out the mechanic said the abs hydraulic pump is bad.

Sudden unexpected fast fading of brakes, pumping helps a little. , happens when vehicle is stationary or moving, straight or turning

While driving, on a city street, the brake pedal went almost to the floor,.. i had to pump the brakes to get back the pressure. this happened several times, driving, and also while i was parked and had just put the car in reverse to pull out of a parking spot. i took it to my mechanic, who inspected the brakes (which were less than a year old),. he checked the master cylinder and found nothing wrong, and brake fluid was accurate. the brakes continued to loose pressure from time to time, so i took it to another mechanic, who found nothing wrong with brakes, master cylinder, no leaks, and abs hydraulic system showed no warnings. in researching internet complaints, i have found many complaints of the same nature.

I was driving about 45 mph, approaching a stoplight when i went to press the brakes and the car didn't slow down. i had to push the brake pedal completely to the floor and narrowly missed a semi that was turning at the moment. there was no warning light on the dash or anyting to indicate that the abs failed. it takes a longer distance to stop the car, there is little to none brake pressure and i can not make sudden stops. i was told it was the abs module and it failed. ford wants over $1,000 to get this fixed. i researched and this seems to be a standard problem for the 2011 fusion. an investigation was opened earlier this year into ford due to the many abs complaints. they have known about this for years and have yet to issue a recall. there should be a recall before someone gets seriously injured or worse.

I have experienced an unexpected decrease in my vehicle's braking effectiveness after needing to brake strongly in the rain. my brake pedal has gone soft and feels like it is going to the floor. at first, i was unable to stop within my desired stopping distance when coming to a complete stop and had a couple near collision experiences while in motion on the highway during traffic. i have had to adjust my braking though i feel very unsafe. i have read several articles that this has become an issue with 2006-2012 ford fusions (mine is a 2011) and is due to a malfunction with the hydraulic control unit. i decided to take my vehicle to ford to diagnose the issue and they just reported that there is "definitely an issue with your brakes" and they "think" it's the hydraulic control unit but they "aren't sure". now i'm left with the option to either pay thousands for work they aren't sure will resolve the issue or continue driving with this defect.

My son went to move put of his parking space and the steering was completely gone, and the brakes were also gone. we had the entire brake system replaced last year already as they went out when my 17yr old daughter was driving the car, that cost $2600 and now the it happens again along with the steering. the car has less than 90k miles on it and should not be doing this we had planned to sell this can but now we cannot as it is a danger to anyone driving it. from this site i can see both issues are known, so how is ford getting away with selling cars that are completely unsafe? when the brakes went for my daughter she was on a 45mph road but luckily she could pull in somewhere safely. with my son he was just pulling out of the spot, and he stopped the car finally, turned it on and off a few times and all was back to normal but this is unacceptable, the car is a danger to anyone in it r near it, as who knows when it will decide to lose the steering again? we won't use it anymore, but we don't know what to do with it. it is essentially worthless even though it is only 7yrs old and low mileage. village ford in dearborn fixed the brake issue last ywear on this car.

The abs light and the traction control light comes on when starting car and chimes and the service traction control is displayed on dash. then when starting to drive and stopping brake pedal seams soft. after driving about a mile the lights go off and braking is normal. it seams like it's the abs control. there has bean a recall on earlier model years to replace abs control assembly.

Brake pedal feel is spongy and travels almost to the floor before brakes engage.

My daughter, who drives the car, informed me her brake pedal was going all the way to the floor when she tried to stop and that her braking distance was a lot longer than it should be, she felt it was unsafe to drive the car for fear of not being able to stop suddenly if need to. she has informed me of many close calls she has experienced with getting her vehicle stopped. i checked her brake pads and they were fine, so i blead the brakes, and this did not help either. after searching online, i found this to be a common problem with 2011-2012 model fusions. everything i found online pointed toward the hydraulic control unit of the abs module. i think ford should have a recall on this issue since it is a safety concern and not to mention the cost of the hcu for the abs.

I was driving at a low rate of speed in traffic on a one lane road. vehicle in front of me stopped abruptly, and i applied my brakes. brake pedal went to the floor, which in turn increased stopping distance and caused my vehicle to make contact with the vehicle in front of me.

Abs module brake pattle goes all the way down ford knows about it but won't recall it it is a safety issue they won't us too pay close to 1000 dollars to fix it an they knew about it i am looking to resolve this situation almost got in a rear end collision it was in san marcos texas 8-15-2018

Both rear driver and passenger brakes are simultaneously wearing down within 2 weeks of standard use. outer pad wears twice as fast as inner for both calipers. pads and rotors changed twice. calipers tested without issue. pad wear is severely uneven. others online have noted faulty abs modules from ford. spongy brake pedal. occasionally brakes get stuck on rear. front brakes operate without issue or abnormalities. issues began after abs light flashed while driving.

Abs pump failure. car was driving lost all pressure in brake pedal almost hit car in front of me. and still there are no warning lights in my car even though i have no pedal! cost is outrageous 1200 for ford to fix. there are many complaints online about this. this is a serious safety issue.

While driving to work, i experienced a loss of brake pressure that nearly led to a collision. i took the car to my mechanic who replaced the abs control module. 3 weeks later, i had the same problem. i had the mechanic install another module from a junkyard, same problem. no one seems to have a solution for this, nor have i seen anything that indicates that something is being done to fix this problem. with nhtsa having started an investigation in 2016(according to an article in forbes magazine), one would think that there would be some sort of action by now. or perhaps american lives are not of the same value as the profits made by the manufacturer.

At roughly 100,000 miles brake pedal would on occasion feel squishy. brake pedal travel would increase requiring more effort to stop. it was intermittently at first and would only act up once or twice a month the car is a daily driver, i live in a rural area and drive country road every day approximately 12 miles a day. the majority of the miles on the car are at speed of 55mph or more. very little stop and go traffic which requires excessive brake use. now the car has 105,000 miles and the brake travel is always long and squishy. they never feel solid like they use to. stopping power is still strong when you stand on them. anti locks still work as i've stood on the brakes in slick weather and can here the antilock system chatter and feel the pedal pulse. seem to be a problem other people are having after googling it so i wanted to throw in my situation.

I purchased this 2011 fusion sel 6 months ago, the carfax report listed everything as being checked out but no report about epas as having recall issues, no problems until last week when the outside temperature reached the 90's, when exiting the freeway and coming to a stop the steering and brakes started loud growling noise at low speeds, continued throughout city street driving as well with it remaining constant until the temp cooled off overnight as it didn't have problems when temp was back down in the 60's but has repeated the growling noise again several times once the temp's return in hot weather. went to the ford dealer and said the recall 15s18 has been closed and that my vin never was part of the recall notice, very frustrating that the 393,623 units effected that listed 2011-12 fusion's never included all vehicles as viewing all the complaints numerous other vehicles that wasn't included in the recall are having the same issues as those that were. received recall notice for the takata airbag possibly available in the 3 qtr and ford is allowing owners a rental unit up to $30 a day until the takata airbag parts are available for replacement.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but lost pressure and traveled to the floorboard. the contact stated that the failure recurred numerous times. the contact had to drive with the emergency brake engaged. the vehicle was taken to inver grove ford lincoln (4725 s robert trail, inver grove heights, mn 55077, (800) 730-1765) where it was diagnosed that the abs control module was faulty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 92,000.

While driving approximately 30 mph and slowing down for a stop, vehicle without any prior warning started beeping and several dash alerts including check brake system, brake and abs and immediately lost full braking power, as if the car had stalled and lost power brakes. brakes had to be pushed to the floor and the vehicle still was hard to stop. i fear if i had being going any speed, i could not have stopped.

Lately when i'm driving and have to come to a stop at a light and have to sit there for awhile my brakes will slowly go to the floor and sometimes i have i will have to pump the brakes because my car will start to inch forward to get it to stop again. i checked the fluid levels and bled the system and it still does it.

I have very little braking power. there is no possible way to lock my brakes up in case of an emergency. the brake pedal sinks all the way to the floor. yes it slows the car and yes it stops the car but if someone makes a sudden stop in front of me my car will be in a accident. i was gonna replace calipers but a mechanic said they weren't bad they were wearing normal. the brake pads are less then a year old and the rotors were replaced the same time. i have almost been in a few accidents because of this issue luckily in iowa we have big shoulders that gave me plenty of room to swerve to the shoulder and avoid an accident. these incidents all happened on highways as i was driving to work and the speed limit is 65 which with brakes that barely work i'm scared to even get to that speed. normally i drive my other vehicle because of this problem that i have with the brakes. so i spend alot more money on fuel then i should considering i bought this car for the good gas mileage.

One morning on the way to work as i applied the brakes approaching a stop light, my brake pedal suddenly went all the way to the floor. the brakes did not stop the car but since the road was on an incline i was able to slowly roll to a stop partially into the intersection. i drove very slow to work, keeping several car lengths distance because even after pumping the brakes, the pedal went all the way to the floor. the following day the brakes were better but still very spongy. drove the car for a few weeks before i could get it to the mechanic. some days i only had to press the brake halfway and others i had to press the brake all the way to the floor. the car has been at the mechanic for three weeks now. changed master cylinder twice, now looking at an abs module or hydraulics assembly. the brakes have always been spongy and had to be pressed at least halfway in order to stop. this is my second (and will be the last) ford fusion with brake issues. the first car was totaled when the abs failed to work causing me to run into the back of another vehicle. the brakes were always spongy on the first car as well. another note to add: when it rains the brakes are very unpredictable. one stop can be highly sensitive and the next barely any brakes at all.

After abs activation brake pedal goes to floor with greatly reduced braking effectiveness. no abs fault light. recall on earlier model years.

While driving, brake caliper will freeze up and grind on brake pads and rotors, and produce smoke. new brakes and pads were put on 5 months ago, as well as rotors turned. the left rear caliper completely froze. had caliper replaced several week ago and the same side froze again. this seems to be a rising issue with this make and model and should be investigated.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 30 mph and depressing the brake pedal all the way to the floorboard, a loud noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing or repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 106,300.
