Problems with 2011 Ford Fusion ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2011 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 81 377 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2011 Ford Fusion

On 5 november 2019 while traveling i-270 in maryland without prior warning my brake pedal went all the way to the floor, and the following warning lights came on: brake, abs, and traction control. this vehicle was extremely difficult to slow down or stop on the highway. this repair cost me $1335.53 and sounds very similar to the ford recall announced on december 19th involving 2006-2010 fusions. mine is a 2011.

I pulled in my driveway, parked 2011 ford fusion and then shut vehicle off. i returned, started vehicle, went to start driving my vehicle out of driveway and the car started beeping and listed that the power steering did not work. i looked it up online and there was a recall for steering: electric power assist system failure (15v340000 or 15s18). i took to dealership and will attach quote which their recommendation is exactly what ford's recommendation was. however my car doesn't fall into the correct date for this recall, i am happy that i was not driving 75mph down insterstate 70 in wheeling, wv or driving up to west liberty, wv where i work. either could have resulted in a horrible accident for me, my kids and potentially other vehicles involved. the car has only 73,000 miles on it roughly and is in excellent condition.

In august 2016, i cranked my car (a 2011 ford fusion hybrid) in my driveway and noticed the service advancetrac, brake failure system, and abs lights lit up on the dash. i tried to back out and notcied the electric break were not working and the break peddle was to the floor and difficult to press. the car was towed to a ford dealer. they kept the car for a week and could not find a probelm. the lights went off and the probelm was resolved on its own. in august 2019, this probelm happened again. i cranked the car in a parking lot and noticed the same warning lights from 3 years ago were on. i was able to get home, but the brakes were not very responsive and were significiantly further down than usual. i took the car to a ford dealership and they claimed they "reset the system" and the problem was resolved. a few weeks later, the issue reoccured. the dealership said they did not know how to relsove the problem. after about 4 days the warning lights went off and the brakes returned to normal. on october 20, 2019 the warning lights came on again and the issue is still occuring. the car is drivable, but it does not feel safe. it could not come to an abrupt stop if needed and i live on a highway where people often pull out in front of me. in 2009, ford issued a software update for the brake system for fusion hybrids. it seems later hybrid models also need a software update. i have read that replacing the brakes or abs control module does not reslove the probelm. it is an issue with the computer system.

The power steering failed to operate correctly and the dash displayed a "power steering assist fault" and "service advancetrac system" warning during startup. the error repeated during several starts and finally became constant.

My car was 100% fine when i drove to work and 3 hours later when i was driving for lunch there was a message that there was a power steering assist fault. thankfully i was not in a busy area because i could barely crank my wheel to turn. there is a recall for 2011 ford fusions but my vin was not included. yet with no indicators my power steering does not work.

Purchased my car from ford in april 2015, have had 0 issues with it, until thursday evening sept 5, 2019. on the way to work, everything was fine. leaving work, everything was fine... until i got on a 55mph highway, in traffic, in heavy rain (due to hurricane dorian entering our area). out of nowhere, my power steering warning and advance trac lights came on and i lost complete steering function in my vehicle. i am almost 5 months pregnant and almost wrecked in 2 lanes full of traffic of other people heading home from work in such weather! upon research, 400,000+ ford fusion 2011's have been recalled over this same exact issue - yet it seems that no one's vin #s match with the recalled vehicles. yet again, over 2000+ recent complaints on nhtsa website as well! this is ridiculous - almost 2 years left to pay on my loan and my vehicle doesn't match the vin for the recall - when obviously, yes it [xxx] well does! i had to call for help because i'm too pregnant to forcefully manhandle the wheel that barely turns 2 inches to either side, to try and steer a vehicle with no power steering! luckily we had family in from out of town who evacuated from the beach that could help us get the car home. would ford be paying for my accident and injuries to potentially 2 because, again i'm pregnant - and then anyone else i could have hit on my exit! this is related to an obvious ongoing electronic failure! this needs to be addressed & fixed now! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While taking a one lane exit on the freeway going at 30 miles per hour a wrench light came on and my car completely loss power. the car coasted until it came to a complete stop. this was very dangerous! i could have died. you guys really need to get all of there ford fusions off of the road. i could not accelerate or brake to slow on the freeway. i waited 5 minutes and the car turned on with no problem. my mechanic could not replicate the problem so he said there was no problem. while looking online this is a throttle body issue. which needs to be recalled immediately. i can't work if i can't get there with a car that i've purchased!!! i refuse to drive this car!

Driving on the highway when the power assist steering failure message and advance trac service message came on with an alarm. i pulled off the highway and discovered manual only steering and it was very very difficult to turn the wheel to pull into a parking lot and almost crashed. if i had to quickly swerve to avoid anyone i would have crashed. i had this vehicle serviced when i was notified of the 15s18 recall and ford service only reprogrammed the steering module. they did not replace the unit. i returned the vehicle back to ford service after this incident and they stated that the electronic power assist steering gear had failed.

The wrench light came up on my car. it says it's the throttle control transmission. the car gave no sign or warning about this car throttle. the code coming up is p2111. i believe there was a investigation going on with my situation a few years ago. is this a recall or something that can be fixed because of a recall?

Car came up with "service advancetrac/service power steering now" error codes.

As i was driving down the road (i had my daughter and cousin with me), my wheel started pulling to the left hard. a light comes on saying 'service advance track now'. when i took it to the ford dealership, they told me there is a recall but because my car is over a certain mileage that it's not covered and it'll cost me $2000.00 to fix the problem. i've done some research online and there are lots of others that's having the same problem that i am. i've contacted ford several times and they refuse to fix this issue...even though it's under a recall. i'd really appreciate it someone could get this problem resolved. it's dangerous and now i have to worry about how i'm going to get where my kids and i need to go every day.

1)power steering assist fault error message. no power steering. 2)service trac control error message 3)cruise control sticking at a high speed so can't use it.

My fiance went to start the care to go to work and the power steering assist failure and service advancetrac warnings were on. she couldn't even turn the steering wheel. if she had been driving with our 2 year old son in the cat they could have been killed. there are many others that i have found with the same problems why had this not been recalled, serious injury or death could occur. then there would be multiple lawsuits

My airbag light has been on for a month now and every time i call ford they tell me that my car isn't up for a recall. this is very dangerous and it has affected my horn, or anything else controlling my steering wheel. my power steering has been replaced twice. i need for someone to check into this matter for me please

My alert symbols are just coming on and my steering control has changed. when i try to drive my car now losses power.

Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that the warning indicators illuminated for the service advancetrac, electronic stability control, and power steering assist fault. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v384000 (air bags); however, the interim notice indicated that the part was not available from the manufacturer for an extended period of time. the vehicle was also included in two manufacturer service campaigns: 13n03(electronic throttle body extended coverage) and 15n01 (epas steering efforts). the contact was to check with the manufacturer to determine if the failure was related to the two campaigns. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

Upon starting the car and backing out of the driveway i experienced a loss of power steering assist. even with several attempts to turn the engine off and restart, the code is still there. there have been many cases of this happening online and a recall that my vehicle was not under in 2015.

The power steering in my 2011 ford fusion has been going out periodically. when this happens, i have to wait for the opportunity to make a wide turn because it's very difficult to turn the wheel. there's been several occasions when i caused traffic jams or almost got rear ended since the car behind me didn't expect me to take so long to turn. a lot of times the power steering goes out when i'm stopped at a red light. i can still drive the car to my destination locally using the streets but i fear that it will go out one day while i'm driving on the freeway. luckily it's usually only me in the car when it happens but i'm afraid that it might also happen when my kids are in the car. it's also frustrating because only i can drive the car because when it happened once when my wife drove it, she panicked and wasn't strong enough to turn the wheel. this time, she did have one of my children in the car. i had to go meet her and drive it home. i've been researching this issue and have found that thousands of vehicles with the same make, .model, and year have experienced similar issues yet only certain vehicles are part of a recall. my car is experiencing exactly everything that the recall says it would yet when i run my vin #[xxx] through fords database, my car does not fall under this power steering recall. which i find very disturbing. i've also contacted ford corporate and my local ford dealership and they just advise me that my vin # is not part of that recall. which is very odd. since my car is exactly what the recall describes. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Throttle body was under recall and was replaced in 2016, not even a year and half later my throttle body failed again. ford wont replace it under warranty for the year and half part, ford wont use my extended vehicle warranty and i continue to have the same problem over and over.

Power steering assist failure a/c fail defrost fail turns on & off by itself or just doesnt operate at all anymore tracadvance failure

Lose of power steering whenever it wants & service afvamcetrac continues to come on. suppos day yhere t no recalls yet i loose power steering at amy given time & no mechanic can repair due to the inform me it should repaired by entire new parts from ford. had been taken in multiple times yet then they tell me it should b ok but won't promise it due to every other power steering recall on this vehicle but mine. need help & resolution. has stopped workin multiple times & have had 3 accidents into curbs, my other vehicle & thx god when it happened on freeeay i was able to slam my brakes & safely get out of traffic.

Takata recall & steering failure i have a 2011 ford fusion on which the steering suddenly failed, without any warning, while driving. thankfully the failure occurred close to our home and my wife was able to make it home without incident. i've been doing research online and learned that this is a common problem. while ford has issued a recall for some later models, they are not covering all viechles with the same part. i am contacting you to raise awareness that the problem still exists and is still impacting people. i have owned many cars that are much older and have never had a complete steering loss. i also want to let you know that we are still waiting for resolution of the takata airbag recall. the recall was issued by ford in july of 2016. we have continued to drive the car with the promise by ford that the car is safe, however, as i continue to read about incidents online, realize that may not be the case. after all, if it were safe there wouldn't have been a recall. my wife has gotten to the point where she doesn't want to drive the car for concerns for her safety. i feel this is unacceptable and am asking for your help to hold ford accountable to: 1.accept responsibility for the steering issue and the risk it posses and extend the racall to all affected viechles 2.expedite the repair on the airbag recall thank you!

When i start my car i get a power steering assist failure and a service advance trac message. i can not turn my steering wheel and my car acts as if it won't do anything. i can turn my car off, wait, then start again and it is fine. my passenger seat belt also will randomly not click into the buckle or come unlocked. now this is after ford supposedly fixed another recall causing my car to drop to a low speed out of nowhere.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the steering wheel seized as the service advancetrac and power steering warning lights illuminated. the contact was able to pull over to the emergency lane and the vehicle was towed to the contact residence. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 (steering). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 97,000. ...updated 05/03/17 *bf updated 08/22/2017*js

While driving, the car faces a sudden loss of power steering and a "service advancetrac" warning message comes on at the same time. the warning light for the traction control stays on. power steering resumed after some time but the "service advancetrac" warning message and traction control warning light stayed on. this happens almost weekly and seems very dangerous. i was very lucky to not have this happen while on a freeway or at a turn. *tr

Ford offered recall 15s18 to replace electric power steering assist on 2011-2012 ford fusions. the manufacture date for the recall begins on sept 07, 2011. however, my ford fusion, manufactured one month earlier (august 07, 2011), has the same issue. the dash message center says "service power steering now" and "service advancetrac". at approximately 85,000 miles i lost power steering at 75mph while passing an 18 wheeler on the interstate. i lost control of the vehicle and had to rapidly decelerate and pull over. i almost wrecked into the bar-ditch, as the steering column violently jerked the vehicle to the right. now, i still have complete loss of power steering and my local ford dealership informed me that recall 15s18 won't cover my vehicle repair since it was manufactured a month too early. according to my research, this problem actually affects a number of ford makes and models, from 2008-2015. the problem is frequent and persistent among 2010-2012 fusions. ford should be liable, especially when safety is the issue. the malfunction is incredibly dangerous, and ford is about to have yet another massive lawsuit for this.

Takata inflators i recovered a letter 3 monts ago saying my airbag needed to be replaced. the letter stated that i would get a call or email telling me when to taky care for repairs i have not heard anything else.also my steering has gone out in my car i can not get anyone to tell me why they just keep saying i can fix it. its becoming to the point were i can't drive. what do i need to do

2011 ford fusion. the power steering service warning light was illuminated, the vehicle was taken to 2 ford dealerships for service. both dealership repaired and cleared the codes, but its still a problem. its been a problem for 6 months. they want to charge me 3000.00 to replace the whole steering system. another issue i have is the driver door will not open from the inside. i have to put the window down to open the door from the outside. this move is unsafe. ford should be aware of this.

After many failed temps from ford for my body throttle issues & fords dealer refusal to replace the throttle body, bc the code isn't present when they hook up they're device to it(ford rules). even though is known with ford they code will clear when the car is turned off or in my case sometimes shut off by itself when the wrench light appears.06/02/15ford dealer did a pcm update for the t.body & was good to go. less than a month later issues started again. it has happened countless of times with my bf & w.my kids in the car. i called davidson ford & spoke to the manger where he stated not to shut the car off so the code doesnt clear & i asked if the tow guy would leave the car on to bring it here. he goes well no! they weren't of help ever.on 03/07/16 heading home my car went in limp mode & steering went stiff. i couldnt control the car & ended up hitting a guard rail.my car got damage & hurt my back.the officer stated i was lucky bc 20 more ft i would of hit the telephone pole. the tow truck guy also stated the car wasn't safe to drive.the nxt day my bf called ford(who open a case)& state farm our insur.co. we went to n.side collison were we explained the situation & recalls on my car.he said he would try & talk to ford to see what he could do. he couldn't do anything & we had to deal with ford.this collison center was on a time frame & real pushy.so i had the car transferred to alan buyer collison center who works w. my insur. & ford. we've played phone tag with ford csd. the claim was sent to fords legal general council whose supposed to handle the case & had 15 business to respond. they haven't responded or try to make contact with us!i was also told by fords csd not to have the collison center do anything till we hear from the legal counsel. my car has been at the c.c 62+days untouched. i upload letter i sent to ford company.

I started my vehicle and let it warm up a couple of minutes before i left my job on cold night. when i backed out of my spot and went forward my service power steering message came on and then service advanced track came on. when i stopped at the light to turn i noticed that i had no power steering. i seen online that there was a recall for this issue. i called my local dealership and was informed my vehicle was not listed in this recall. i then called ford motor co. and neither party could tell me why my vehicle was not listed in this recall when it was indeed a 2011 ford fusion without a 3.5 and had the steering issue as described in the recall. not having power steering all at once with no prior warning can be a very dangerous thing. luckily in my case it was not a busy intersection at that time. i don't understand why mine or other vehicles with the same issue and possibly the same part is failing yet not covered under fords recall 15s18.

When i started the vehicle has loss steering and the "power steering assis fault" message appear. the dealer said that need to be replaced. ford has a recall for that part (the electric power steering rack) but my vin number is not included.

'3 may 2013 (mileage 32,800) moab, utah. driving in the mountains around moab for my daughters wedding. one passenger in the car beside myself. while driving around a sharp curve, all the electronics in the car went dead. the engine shut down, all lights on the dash, the radio, ac all stopped working. power steering, power brakes were non-functioning. this happened a total of five times. '26 august 2015 (mileage approximately 55,600) time: 6:00pm. driving home from work. i'd stopped at a street light and when i pulled sharply out onto main road, the car went dark again and all electrical systems shut down. i quickly restarted it by shifting into neutral and starting it with the key. three blocks later, it happened again. this was the first time it had happened on a straightaway. i was driving by myself. '6 september 2015 (mileage approximately 55,950 between san juan capistrano and lake elsinore, ca. coming out of a sharp curve in the road while going uphill all electrical components of the car shut off. i shifted into neutral, turned the key, and the engine started up again. '19 november 2015 (mileage approximately 56,751) went over a speed bump with another passenger in the car. the ford fusion shut down again, and after i restarted it, two hundred yards later did it again. 'ford has tried to locate the problem three times. finally replaced throttle body on 22 sept. and said that fixed problem. it didn't! ford corporation customer service now refuses to return my last five calls

Car was traveling 60mph on straight road when it jerked and wrench light and check engine light and abs and stability lights came on. pulled to side of road and shut off car. restarted and drove 100 feet and wrench light came back on and once again pulled over to shoulder to restart car. after 2nd restart it drove fine for 15 minutes and then stalled completely, once again restarted car and drove 5 feet it once again stalled and lost all power. restarted and drove for 10 minutes to have it start jerking at a stop light and then stall out once i pulled into work.

I was driving along a road at 50 mph which was the speed limit , all of a sudden i get signals on the car that there is a power steering malfuntion. the wheel locked up and i could not even turn it to get my car to safety. i hit a sign due to me not being able to turn my vehicle, my foot was jammed and i was tossed into the steering wheel

Takata recall - dealership was unable to replace and gave me a year timeline for parts. also need 15v340 parts. with 2 recalls i've been unable to drive the car safely. i have tried to sell the vehicle without success for 6 months. ford has an obligation to fix vehicle or be subject to recover my losses of depreciation during sale.

Started my car on saturday morning at 9am, put it into reverse to back out of my spot, when the "power steering assist fault" and "service advance-trac" errors showed on the display. i promptly shut the vehicle down and waited one minute and restarted it, the errors were still present. i am contacting the local dealership. thankfully this did not happen while driving on the interstate.

Driving down the highway came up to a slight bend and when i went to turn the wheel i noticed that it was hard to turn. thinking it was tire going flat i went to get off the highway when i went to get off on the exit the steering was almost impossible to turn had to slam on the breaks to avoid driving off the exit ramp. with all the other complaints on here it would have been nice to know that this could happen

The power steering quit without warning while driving and also disabled the electronic stability control

I started the car and i got a stabilitrac/power steering error message. the power steering will not work. i tried waiting and restarting as i read online that is a way to fix it short term and it does not fix the problem. it has happened in the past but i did not record the date or mileage. *tr

The 2011 ford power steering unit failed gave a warning to service the car. the dealer found nothing wrong. vehicle is not safe to drive post failure and the problem is not repeatable at the dealer. the dashboard reads "steering assist failure'. *tr

Was driving the vehicle on the highway at 70 mph when power steering and electronic stability control suddenly quit working and "service now" message appeared. reset when i was able to pull off the road and turn the car off and on. was driving straight at the time, thankfully. *tr

When starting vehicle red brake light on, abs light, traction control light, check brake system message and service advance trac message on verified by ford service technician: ids test had code for b1342, internal fault in control module, needs abs control module replaced at cost of $860. in researching this on the internet i found that there are many complaints about this faulty module and feel that this should be recalled by ford motor company. *tr

Pulled into the gas station and my service power steering now came on and service autotrac came on and i now have no power steering. called ford and they are telling me either a gear box or rack and pinion and estimate between 1500 and 2000 for repairs. *tr

I was backing out of my drive way, my car acts like it was going to die my power steering goes out. kn the message center it says power steering assists fault and then service advance trac. have not had power steering since but it has came back on for about an hour at the most three different times. *tr

Turning corner to park, loss of power steering. service advancetrac light and also anti slip light came on. i took to dealer and they just reset codes. worked for 3 days andnthen total failure of advanctrac. suburban ford now says i need whole new rack and pinion assembly. looks like this is a major issue with units. *tr

I was driving into a parking lot and my power steering light came on to service soon i parked my car then when i went to leave and started my car, the light went to service now and i had no power steering at all. i am a college student and just bought this car less than 5 months ago and i am very lucky that this didn't happen on my way home while driving through the mountain areas i have to drive through from college or i could have had a fatal or serious accident. i don't have the money to fix this and i believe ford motor company should recall and repair this serious issue and since there is several complaints. *tr

Power steering failed. received indication of advancetrac needing service as well as power steering failure. i have noticed some issues of this nature for over one year and 15,000 miles as when the car is first started and put into reverse there would be, on occasion, no power steering and i'd get advancetrac needs service warning. by putting the car in drive i could sometimes get the power steering back or if i shut the engine off and restarted. power steering completely failed now at 43,000 miles and i've been told by the ford dealership that the module as well as the steering gear--the whole system--has to be replaced per diagnostics. *tr

Mpg was not adding up though it was just me than i would notice spots of gasoline on the floor and did a inspection and looked normal until filled gas a bit higher than half and started leaking.and some loss of steering would happen here and there and decided to inspect it to couple of codes would come up in a dtc test.

While driving with my family my service advancetrac and service power steering warning lights came on. after we got home and went to go back out later our power steering was completely gone. car isn't drivable as it has no power steering at all. very dangerous situation my family was put into by this problem!! *tr

While driving one saturday evening out of no where the car idles down to about 5 mph until it stops , the steering wheel and gas pedal locks up and my husband and i are stuck in the middle of the road with traffic behind us, thankfully there was no accident. i then put the car in park, switched to key back to turn it off and back on to try and move it from the road to the gas station that we were right in front of (thank god). we eventually got the car in the parking lot and noticed the wrench light and the check engine light were both on. we did our research and found out it is a problem concerning the throttle body, in which i heard is very costly. the problem stopped for about a week then started again and happens randomly while in traffic, again thank god no accident has occurred. this car is my husband and i only means of transportation right now and i am 4&1/2 months pregnant so we need this car to travel not only to and from work but also my doctor visits. i don't know if anyone else has experienced this problem but it's a huge safety problem and we've only had the car for about 9 months. *tr
