Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2011 Ford Fusion

I have been sensing a surge in engine power for several months in my 2011 fusion. i suspected a throttle body problem and googled for information. i found all of the information on the nhtsa website about throttle body problems for this car as well as information in other forums. it was a good thing as i was prepared for what happened today. i had just left my house when the dreaded (and expected) loss of engine power with the wrench light being illuminated. i experienced the same symptoms reported by so many complaints logged for this issue: loss of power, rough idle, just enough power to barely move the car, certainly not enough to limp anywhere, much less home, even though the engine was in "limp home" mode. i had my code scanner with me and was able to retrieve the p2111 (throttle stuck open) code before i restarted the car to restore full power. this only worked enough to get the car turned around when limp home was triggered again. i restarted again and was able to get within a block of my house when limp home triggered once more. the third time i was able to get to my house. i called the dealer and then roadside assistance to get my car towed to the local ford dealer after verifying that they had a throttle body in stock. the car was towed there and a defective throttle body was diagnosed and replaced. this is not a case of if the failure will happen, but rather when. i was fully expecting it any day and sure enough, it happened. i was extremely fortunate as i was less than a mile from home, knew what to expect and how to deal with it, and my car was still in warranty, but only by 1,806 miles! any other situation would have resulted in me being in a very dangerous predicament with a car that was basically dead in the water. i was almost to the point of purchasing a new throttle body on my own in the interest of being proactive rather than being stranded. *tr

My wife was driving down the highway and the engine bucked and seemed to stall, then recovered. the previous week it had stalled completely. shortly after it stalled while i was driving it again and did not recover. *tr

Car experienced a sudden loss of power during acceleration from a stop sign. lost 99% of power and missed heavily. nearly rear-ended. pulled over, turned car off, waited a few minutes and restarted the car. ran fine. drove approximately 15 miles and 25 minutes before parking the car; problem did not recur. drove approximately 20 miles and 30 minutes to dealership; problem did not recur. dealership diagnosed the problem the same as many of the complaints on this website - the throttle body actuator is sticking. $400 repair. information online indicates that this is a new throttle design by ford, so in essence, ford is experimenting on my dime. not acceptable. *jb

The engine shook violently. the wrench light and check engine light suddenly appeared. the speed of the car went from 45 mph to 0 in an instant. then the entire car powered off. i managed to pull over to the shoulder as this happened and not being able to accelerate at all. i turned the car on again with keys in ignition. started to drive and the same series of events happened again and my car completely powered off. i got my car towed to ford malcolm cunningham on 8/26/13. they confirmed it was the throttle body that caused the issues. i purchased extended warranty on my car which only covered the actual part and not the labor to replace the throttle body. the dealership service rep, [xxx], said that they recommended i also flush the engine because they have seen this is related to the throttle body issue. she also said the throttle body issue is a common problem with fusions and escapes, as she had another person in there for the same issue on an escape. ford needs to realize this is extremely unsafe and issue a recall asap! i cannot believe my car is practically new and i'm out of pocket $400, while ford doesn't take any responsibility. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).*tr

I left from my home in the early afternoon. the car had not been used since the previous evening. about 2 miles from my house i got onto a state route and started to go up a slight hill. i had accelerated up to approximately 45 mph and the engine started running really rough, then stalled. the check engine light lit up. it seemed to go down to idle with no response from engine while pushing the pedal. i glided to the side of the road and crested the hill, then let the engine sputter at around idle as i was able to put it in neutral and let gravity take me to the bottom of the hill where i could glide around the corner into a safe parking lot. i shut the car down, waited a minute and it started back up as though nothing had happened. the check engine light was clear. i have not tried to check to see if it stored any codes yet. i had experienced 2 previous events in the previous 2 weeks with this car. the car has been serviced regularly. *tr

I was driving with my daughters in the car in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway. i was traveling the speed limit, at or around 55 mph, when all of a sudden the car went limp. there was no acceleration and the car immediately began to coast. a wrench light and the engine light went on. with no ability to speed up, i had to navigate through two lanes of high speed traffic with a paralyzed car to get me and my children to safety. luckily, i was able to do so. the dealership informed me that this doesn't happen very often, and that unfortunately, this repair would not be covered under the power train. they ordered and replaced the throttle body. upon investigating this issue online, i was shocked to discover that this problem is so prevalent. the fact that ford is covering this up and pushing the costs on to its customers is frustrating (more than $1300 in my case), but the fact that they are willing to risk the lives of these very same customers is downright disturbing. there should be an immediate recall on all the cars affected by this throttle body issue, as well as a full reimbursement for all those who have had to suffer through this already. *tr

Three issues have arisen in the last month: 1) while slowing down to turn a corner, to stop or after a stop and starting to accelerate, my car stalls 2) at a stop light, my car jumps - will intermittently stall when going to accelerate 3) after putting gas in the tank it is very difficult to turn over. *tr

Driving 45mph on state road 45 in southern indiana, which is very curvy. let off gas, then when i went to accelerate, pedal went completely to the floor. car then started sputtering. no acceleration at all. finally got car off of state highway. car never completely died, just absolutely no acceleration, throttle body sensor bad! this is a safety issue! had i been going faster and vehicles behind me, there would have been a major accident. cost $580 to repair on a 2011 car! according to the ford technician that repaired my car, they have replaced several in the last 6 months! very disappointing for ford not to recall sure a important repair! *tr

Vehicle lost engine power and would not accelerate. vehicle was maneuvered to the road side where it was shut off for 1 minute. upon restart, vehicle drove and accelerated normally. after driving for 5 minutes, vehicle again lost engine power and would not accelerate. vehicle was again maneuvered to the road side and shut off for 1 minute. upon restart, vehicle drove and accelerated normally. condition was experienced three times the same day. ecu stored code for throttle control system. *tr

Drove a mile from our home to pick up pizza. went into the shop for about 5 minutes, came out and started the car. backed out of the space and pulled across a divided road to head home and the car sputtered and lost power so that i had to pull over to the side. the check engine light was lit. i shut down the car and it started right up and the check engine light was clear. it repeated this issue again about 1 week later on the highway for my wife though recovered. then again for me while accelerating up a state route but did not recover. *tr

Dash board reports power steering assist fault. difficulty steering. drive to parking place. turn car off. two hours later return to car. turn on car and the power steering is ok. second fault at 46045 miles. car was parked. turn car on. power steering assist fault. turn car off. turn car on. power steering ok. *tr

While driving at 60 mph on the highway, vehicle appeared to "stall" causing a sudden loss of acceleration. this occurred on three separate occasions in the past week. vehicle malfunction caused vehicle to enter "limp" mode. *tr

After having my car for 3 months or so i had the first incident with the power steering failing on my car while driving with a warning message that stated "power steering assist fault, service advancetrac" i was able to pull over turn the vehicle off and back on and the problem would be corrected, the last event with.with this same problem did not clear the message, i have read a number of blogs with peep owning ford fusions to.know this is not an isolated issue and yet ford motor company still has yet to take corrective action against this problem and at around 1900.00 for repair costs of this issue that is unacceptable. *tr

While driving in heavy traffic on interstate, engine began to loose power and as my speed decreased i pulled off the highway and though engine remained running and intermittently coughed or vibrated, i turned the ignition off and called for a tow truck. during slow down, dash warning lights displayed a wrench and also possibly a wiggly line symbols. while driving before trouble started i attempted to cut back my speed by pressing the minus set button on the cruise control several times, but not consecutively. incident occurred shortly after i decreased my speed with above action. this incident left us in a dangerous spot in the breakdown lane while high speed heavy traffic passed close by unabated. following computer analysis ford dealer replaced electronic throttle body. when i googled above ford part i discovered a growing history of above trouble but so far, no recall issued to date. real danger while operating a vehicle is indicated. *tr

While driving my car to work, i was on the highway and the car suddenly lost power and the engine stalled. i had to pull over twice on the way to work while navigating interstate traffic. my car engine stalled and i had to pull over - i took it to the dealer on friday and they took care of it really fast, but it appears that they have knowledge of it happening alot. this is a major safety issue for me, as i have to travel interstate every day.. it is unnerving that when driving 55-65 mph, the wrench light comes on and the accelerator pedal becomes unresponsive. the engine was turned off and upon restarting, resumed normally. just a very basic google search, it seems that this is a very common problem and need a recall notice. *tr

Auto suddenly slowed down, became jerky, and had minimum response gsa pedal pressure. i pulled over, shut off the engine, restarted the engine and was able to continues driving. ford dealer performed ids test, no codes, ran pinpoint tests by symptom. test etb. failed. replaced electronic throttle body, cleared kam and road test. total cost $433. *tr

Driving at city speeds and the power steering completely fails. turn the vehicle off and then on again and it fixes the problem. drive some more and a few days later, it happens again. a few days later, it completely goes. take the car to the local ford dealer and am charged $1832.35 for a new rack and pinion. ladies and gentlemen, a rack and pinion won't fix itself if you turn the car on and off. i did some research on this problem on line at fordfusionforum.com. it seems to be an abs module, not the rack and pinion. called ford today and they said no reimbursement was possible. a new rack and pinion for a car with only 21 thousand miles on it? crazy. *js

***note: this started in may 2013 happened 3 times. dealership replace an intake sensor and then it happened again as listed below. this is putting me and my daughters in danger everytime this happens without prior warning. ---------------------------------------- july 19, 2013 @ 3:29 am: without warning this time the "check engine" indicator came on , the car made a weird noise like a dying rumble/purring noise as it became silent and all power left. -she put the care in ?p? park -started the engine and it acted normal -------------------------------------- july 19, 2013 @3:28 am: without warning the ?throttle control/transmission? indicator lit up, the car became silent and all power left. -she put the care in ?p? park -started the engine and it acted normal ------------------------------------------- july 19, 2013 @ 1:20 am : without warning the ?throttle control/transmission? indicator lit up, the car became silent and all power left. -she put the care in ?p? park -started the engine and it acted normal ---------------------------------------------------------- july 18, 2013 @4:30 pm: without warning the ?throttle control/transmission? indicator lit up, the car became silent and all power left. -she put the care in ?p? park ?.i was in the back seat & instructed her what to do. -started the engine and it acted normal ***** ford dealership service technicians could not find or duplicate the problem. the issue escalated to the ford engineers. they determined that it was something like the massive intake air flow sensor and installed a new one ( ford part: fp 3l3z-128579-ba sensor assy) june 13 just prior to my business trip on june 17,2013. *tr

While driving on a highway with a fair amount of traffic the gas pedal quit working then my car stalled out. this all happened very quickly. i was able to pull to side. i restarted the car merged back on highway and in 1/4 to 1/2 mile it did it again. once again i was able to restart it and merged back into traffic hoping to make it to the next exit, but it did it again in less then 1/4 mile. i restarted it and stayed on the side of highway. it went into limp mode and i was able to get to a gas station at next exit. the car had stalled out a month or so prior but restarted and no other issues until this reported event. also as we researched on line my car had the surges of power or lack thereof as mentioned on line. note: i am a person without much mechanical knowledge and this was an extremely unsettling event. i do a lot of highway driving in my work including rush hour. i am well aware that my life could have easily ended that day or been severely changed. please address this before someone's life is ended or severely changed!! *tr

Engine cut-off going at 5 mph. according to aamco code p2112 appeared on their reader. this code has to do with the throttle actuator control system. took car to local ford dealer and was told that the part, throttle body and motor asy., are on national back order. it took at two days or two weeks to receive the part. this is not acceptable; ford and their dealers should have this part available immediately. does someone need to have a serious or deadly accident before action is taken? *tr

Went to start car and it would not start. ford roadside towed it the next day. after trying various things for 3 weeks ford engineering called to tell me it was due to a lightning strike. insurance believes it is a warranty claim as the car is still under warranty; ford will not honor this as a warranty claim. no one at ford has been able to give me a cost for repairs already attempted or for further repairs to make the car work normally again. i feel there is a deeper electrical issue with the car, but ford is claiming there is nothing in the car that could supply this kind of electricity to fry several modules, fuses, and light bulbs. worried about a bigger issue which is not being diagnosed and fixed properly. could be a safety hazard. *tr

I wanted to contact you about a serious safety issue in my 2011 ford fusion. i took it in for service in january 2013 and was told that the throttle body needed replaced after my car stalled a few times. i was told then the throttle body was backordered. i tried again in june and was told that this is a common problem and they are still backordered. after that, i was told that i could simply take the key out and put it back in after it stalled and it would be fine. and they were backordered from ford. on july 11th, the car stalled at the corner of i-70 and i-270 in columbus while traveling at 65mph. i pulled off to the side of the road and reset the car. while trying to get off the road, i went off the road to avoid any other cars as their was construction and no shoulder. after restarting it, i got back onto the road and the car stalled and i wasn't able to make it back off the road and nearly was hit by a semi from behind. the car stalled a minimum of ten times during rush hour. *tr

I was driving my 2011 ford fusion s with a v4 engine on 07/03/2013 at approximately 19:15 in the evening. i was traveling on a slight incline on a two-lane road at a speed of approximately 50 m.p.h. when all of the sudden the car stalled and would not longer accelerate. i pulled off the road and the car began to shake and the transmission slipped while shifting down. i turned off the car and then turned it on again. i drove to my destination 2 hours away without further incident. i drove the car a second time and the incident did not recur. the third time i drove the car after the first incident, the problem occurred again, which was on 07/05/2013 at approximately 17:00. it occurred in the middle of an interstate and i had to pull to the side of the road by cutting across traffic without the ability to accelerate!!! i took the car to a ford dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a faulty throttle control. i had to pay for the repair out of pocket because the warranty expired at 36,000 miles (my car has 38000 miles). this is a serious public safety concern. i have read that 2010 ford fusions also have a history of the same problem at about 2-3 years after purchase. i am grateful to have avoided a crash, but one could easily find themselves in a situation where they cannot accelerate because of this problem and end up seriously injured or dead because of a crash that it could cause. the car suddenly stops accelerating and this happens apparently at random, usually within 10-15 minutes of turning the car on. *tr

2011 fusion w/ 3.0 liter 6cyl. while traveling at approximately 50 mph the engine suddenly bogged down. i pressed the gas pedal and nothing happened. i was able to pull over to the side and the engine was still running. a wrench light came on. i put the car in park and tried the gas pedal again with no response. i turned the engine off, waited a few seconds, then turned it back on. i was able to drive home, then to the ford dealership with no incident. i was told that the problem was the throttle body which is on national back order. ford would not cover the repair even though car was just over the warranty mileage limit. i found out that the nhtsa started an investigation on this issue in february 2013 and ford is aware of the multiple complaints of this same problem. i was lucky no truck was behind me since my car slowed quickly and suddenly with no warning. the internet is filled with complaints of this same issue. please do something before someone is killed! *tr

I was driving on the freeway at 65mph during heavy afternoon traffic when my car all of a sudden died and i had to quickly veer off to the service lane dodging honking, angry drivers nearly almost getting hit by one. luckily an accident was diverted by smart driving by me. after coasting to a stop, i turned the car off and turned it back on. thinking it was a minor hiccup, i drove back onto the road. after 10 miles the incident happened again and nearly another brush with death/accident, i got off the freeway and drove slowly all the way home which it died 2 more times. *tr

Car is having a hard time cranking and idling high, power steering hard to move because of a power steering assist fault and the car is hard to steer it has done it 3 times. once while driving and 2 other times while parked but car was hard to crank. *tr

My wife was driving her car when the check engine light came on, it reduced engine power and would not accelerate. she turned it off, then restarted it. she drove home with no further incident. this was june 1st. it happened a few more time through june and july and we had a competent mechanic clean the throttle body after the code he scanned said throttle body was stuck closed/stuck open. this did not fix the problem. on the way home from dinner with my family on august 3, we made a turn across two lanes of traffic. in the middle of the turn, the wrench light came on, car lost power, and we were essentially dead in the water while making a turn. the vehicle coming down the lane happened to see us in the middle of the road. had they not braked, we would have been t-boned. it happened the next day on the interstate. not very confidence inspiring to travel at 70mph, then have your car not go over 900 rpm. look for a shoulder very quickly. in all instances, car goes to reduced engine power (which limits it to 900 rpm). at a stop light, the idle is very erratic going from 1000 rpm down to about 400. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving at various speeds, the check engine light would illuminate and the vehicle stalled. the failure recurred on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the contact indicated that the pcm was re-programmed, but the vehicle continued to experience the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000. the vin was not available.

Was driving 2011 ford fusion then shut down to idle, no power, almost got re ended, pulled over and put in park turned off and restarted problem was gone but recurred less than 2 tenths of mile. repeated steps with caution floored gas peddle but still happen. autozone checked it and cleared the computer. happen right away after leaving. called ford could not repair because no codes. problem came back 5 days later. at intersection light change green car did same thing, stuck in middle on intersection. put in park and restart was hard to start. red light now just got out of traffic way. car is at ford now. this is a very bad safety feature and will cause an accident sooner or later. ford said they have had a few problems but no recall. *tr

As we were driving in the freeway at about 70 mph on april 7th 2013, the car lost power and stalled out in the middle lane of the freeway. at that exact moment the car felt like it jerked hard and then stalled and the light with the wrench symbol came on in the dashboard. then it immediately disappeared after being on when the car jerked and stalled. manage to put hazzard lights on and make it safely to the freeway shoulder where the car after a couple of minutes trying and waiting started again as if nothing happened. after turning the car off the car would not turn back on and sounded like the engine was struggling to keep up after the car was jump started. the car then was making sounds in the engine bay and managed to make it to a gas station couple feet away and the car died again after turning it off to refuel once again had to get the car jump started. car once again started to feel and sound as if it was struggling to stay stable. had the car towed the next morning to local ford dealership where they replaced the battery and install a new throttle box. computer code at dealership determined cause of problem was due to faulty throttle box. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the air conditioning system failed. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000. *tr

Car dies while driving, surges at times, had been happening on and off. died part way through a large intersection on 7-13-13, luckily i just avoided a collision. it would start and go a few feet, then surge and die. called crater lake ford in medford, or, they stated very busy that day and had not heard of the symptoms i described. placed a call to dave's import service they said they would look at the car. within 45 min they had diagnosed failed throttle body. *tr

On the morning of february 7th 2013, i noticed the vehicle's acceleration and deceleration was ridged and jumpy. prior to this problem, the vehicle has shut off randomly approximately three times while in drive and in motion. this prompted me to bring the vehicle in for maintenance at a ford dealer auto center. they determined the power takeoff unit and drive shaft were faulty, replaced both parts and returned the vehicle to me on february 15th 2013. on march 18th 2013, the vehicle shut off again while driving at highway speeds on a busy road, forcing me to navigate cautiously to a shoulder. the engine light and wrench light were illuminated this time. i shut the vehicle off, waited 5 minutes, and restarted. the engine light remained on and the vehicle was drivable. i quickly returned the vehicle to the previous ford auto center, in which they discovered the throttle body was faulty. they replaced the throttle body and returned the car to me on march 21st 2013. on march 22nd 2013, the engine cover fell off while the car was in motion, i immediately returned vehicle to the previous ford auto center, they replaced with new engine cover. as of today, the vehicle is again showing hesitation at acceleration and deceleration, rpm dash meter needle bounces plus minus 500rpms during acceleration and deceleration. breaking is not smooth or instant, the vehicle tends to jump during breaking. at coasting speeds, the vehicle also jumps. these are similar problems that occurred prior to the vehicle spontaneously shutting off. this problem is alarming and an extreme safety hazard to yourself and others around you, notably at high highway speeds. ford has been presented with the issue and has claimed that the issues are all unrelated, even though the vehicle shuts off each time. i am concerned for my safety and the safety of others driving this model, 2011 ford fusion sel awd.

Car bucked then completely died (in the middle of the street)! lights that came on: stop safely now, wrench, engine, triangle with exclamation point. took a few times to start back up. took it to the dealer and they said they did not have a code but did not find anything wrong. a few days later, it happened again. this time in the middle of the intersection! ( same codes) brought it to dealer again, this time apparently they found the code. the dealer said gas was going in the wrong place and replaced a valve. it has since happened more than five times, all happening at less than 5 mph when starting after a stop. currently with another ford dealership (given the previous one cracked the windshield but claimed it was already there, not to mention the poor service to the car). this latest incident we had the car towed. this was at the recommendation of the ford regional representative who has been extremely helpful. (by the way, this fusion is a hybrid.) currently waiting for diagnosis. *tr

I bought this 2011 ford fusion at 40,000 miles and since it has been at 45,000 miles i been having stalling and idle problems . i thought i was going crazy until i seen an article in the news today . my car has stalled on the hwy to where on numerous occasions i have almost been hit. i have had to pull over and restart it. i also see the wrench when it happens. i also have been sitting still at lights to where my car would idle up real fast. my car also pops and gets stuck when i change gears. i hate this car. i just pray something gets done before someone really gets hurt including myself .... *tr

I have now twice experienced the same problem described in the news articles from this date regarding engine stall. the first occasion, the vehicle was driving on a surface street at approximately 40 mph when it suddenly stalled. the second occasion was while i was trying to enter a freeway at between 50-55 mph. after the engine was turned off for a minute, the vehicle started working again properly. *tr

At sometime, after car was shut off, the driver, passenger windows and sun roof opened. this has happened 6 times. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving at 40 mph, the defroster failed causing the contact's visibility to be blocked. the contact inspected the vehicle and diagnosed that the blower motor resister needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 32,000 and current mileage was 50,000.

First at about 42000 miles in october 2012 the driver seat became so hot it created 1st degree burns on my husband. the seat heater went out soon after. needs to be fixed. the seat could cause a fire at 55000 miles the driver door handle became unlatched within the door and stopped opening from the inside. what if i had a wreck and couldn't get out? needs to be recalled for this issue. i've heard it's common on the fusions. the front door speakers went out soon after all of this. at 90000 miles the passenger seat heater went out. same burning hot thing but this time no one was burned. at 95000 miles the safety system has now gone out. it flashes that there is a problem with the rear park aid and a fault with the cross traffic system. i've read that the rear driver side speakers cause this. the front driver side speakers went out 2 yrs ago. maybe these are connected. it seems the whole car has problems with fuses and electrical wires either burning out way too quickly. my vehicle is a 2011 manufactured in october of 2010

Power steering has gone out several times since i first bought this car. each time i have taken it into the dealer in the past they have told me they weren't willing to look at it without a fault code on the dash. today (04/17/2015) i finally managed to get them to look at the code and they are unwilling to fix the problem under warranty despite it having been an ongoing issue. looking it seems to be a problem not just related to my car, but a number of these 2011 fusions. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while traveling 35 mph, the power steering and traction warning lights illuminated. the contact merged to the side of the road where the vehicle was restarted. upon restarting, the vehicle became difficult to steer. the vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's home and was later taken to a dealer where it was determined that the computer needed to be reset. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. the failure mileage was 56,625 and the current mileage was 56,708. the vin was not available.

The fan blower to the air condition failed to work after a short park. the dealership told me the wire and resister had burned, did not know which happened first. i was told it could cause a fire so the parts were disconnected. until new parts were installed. my concern is this vehicle was parked in my garage and this could have been a much bigger problem . i also am concerned that i am not the only one. why should this happen to a car less than 2 years old. *tr

Vehicle lost power. trouble light was a wrench. turned ignition off and restarted ok. the next day the same thing happened. oddly both times this occurred after making a right turn. *tr

2011 ford fusion -while driving on the interstate at 70 mph, vehicle suddenly lost acceleration, tachometer started going up and down, traction light came on,fuel gage going up and down, a lock light was illuminated, bells were going off and car began to de-accelerate. when i pulled the car to the shoulder turned the car off and back on the problem continued. i immediately drove to the ford dealer which was close by at the time and had the manager view what was happening. he pulled the car into the shop, shut off the engine and it never restarted. this could have caused a serious accident if i was not able to react as quickly as i did. the car has only 37000 miles. this problem has been intermittently occurring in this vehicle for a year now. the car is not safe! when is ford going to recall this car!!! *tr

2011 ford fusion. consumer states safety issues with vehicle related to driver controls and distractions, battery failure and loss of electric power steering capability *tgw the consumer stated there was no warning that the steering was about to freeze while driving. the consumer also stated it was difficult to read the instrument panel. the headlight control was located in an inconvenient place, the obstruction of the left side plastic molding inside the steering wheel prevented a clear view of object. *jb

I bought my car on december, 2011. 1st problem was the dashboard turning off for no reason. the 2nd problem is life threatening. i am driving down the road and out of no where the dash board lights up, the readers go crazy, and my car will decelerate to 25mph and will not go over that speed. every time i have had to pull over and when i do the car shakes. i turned my car off and when i turn it back on its like it never happened. no lights stay on and the car drives like a champ. it does it at random times, and random speeds. i took the car to a ford dealership in may 2012 and they could not find a problem with it. this happened 3 times and in august i took the car in twice, the first time nothing was found, the second time they change the throttle body on it. problem fixed right?? not even close. in november it did it again. i called the dealer but they could not see my car for a few days and didn't have any loaner vehicles. the car then began to randomly jerk at a stop lights or when i changed gears. this week the flare up happened again but this time the car jerked when i put it in drive and the engine light and wrench light both turned on. i continued to drive and right when i started going up a hill the dashboard lit up, the readers went crazy and my car started rolling backwards. i was able to break but when i pushed on the gas the car barely crept up the hill. the wrench light then turned off but the engine light stayed on. the next morning i took it to the dealer. when i took it in the engine light was on but when they checked it the engine light was off and there were no codes on the computer. i am scared of the car i am driving. i know the car has a problem and so does the dealer but they just can't figure out what the problem is. i called ford but all they said was that they were working with the dealer. i am paying for a car i can't drive. *tr

The power steering has gone out now a few times. each time the car has to be placed in park, shut off and turned back on for it to be reset. it just happened again at 91, 777 miles. enough is enough and this should be addressed before someone gets killed. my wife was driving this time on a fairly busy road with our daughter. *tr

On september 15, 2011 i was driving my 5 month old 2011 ford fusion hybrid with 5700 miles on it when a brake warning light came on and a warning tone sounded in my vehicle. i pulled over and stopped the vehicle. i called walker ford in clearwater and they said it probably was only a defective rear brake light and bring it in when you have time. i restarted my vehicle and the warning light and tone were gone. i continued driving home and when i was almost home, the brake warning light came on again and so did the warning tone. but this time i noticed my estimated miles per gallon on the onboard computer system was going up and down and the vehicle no longer went into the electric hybrid mode. i called walker ford and told them i was going to bring the vehicle in on the morning of september 16th. i brought it in and all day long they troubleshoot it and walker ford could not figure out what was wrong with it. they put a call into the ford technician hotline to find out what was wrong with the vehicle. at the end of the day they did not hear back from the hotline and i needed a vehicle to get home. walker ford wanted to give my vehicle back to me to drive home and use over the weekend. i refused saying that the manual said to bring the vehicle in for service for the brake warning light and the electric/hybrid system not working. nothing in the manual said to continue driving the vehicle. so walker ford finally gave me a loaner to drive. monday september 19th they got an answer from the hotline and it said a vacuum hose/assembly was bad and they put one on order. the next day the part was not delivered but a notice that the part was not available but back ordered and it would become available sometime around october 14th. i contacted ford customer service and made a complaint case # [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
